Could you maybe take a peek at the longest continuously running MMO that i used to play over 22 years ago. NexusTK/Nexus The Kingdom of the Winds. It was and still is pretty unique thanks to the deep player involvement.
I know you have to pay bills, man, but FUCK THESE SPONSORED VIDEOS, we know it's not your writing. Been with you since 1k subs and it's easy to notice.
Since you're sponsoring them, can you tell them to stop making youtube remove the private server videos? These fuckers oh my fucking god.. They completely ruined that game and they don't even want people to play the previous versions of it. Just take example from WoW and make old school official servers if you don't want private ones. Fuckers.
The game is completely dead, nobody is even on or talks, it's all macro bot accounts spamming the same word over and over and they barely even do that. MapleStory M is dead.
Man Maplestorys OST is the only one that can genuinely make me cry. These days were so much simpler. I miss them so much. We were too little to understand all the harsh realities. Our only fear was being out leveled by our friends. The times that you'd spend at school just thinking about what you wanted to do when you get back home and started the game. Trying to log in before the drop hits in Maplestory. Jesus, man, sometimes I wish I could go back.
Man, only those who were around during the early 2000s felt this... I started MS when I was in the 2nd/3rd grade (born in 1993). The memories I have with this game is unforgettable. It was the community, the early comings of people playing PC games (especially MMOs). The friends you made along the way, being "popular" as a track because you always got into PQs. The community was amazing in of itself. You would find filled-popular maps, make some friends, get defamed or followed around on their higher accounts because you tried to steal their maps. Use your bald mules to defame someone constantly, only for them to buy fame from lower-level nubs for 500 mesoes. I could go on but gosh, if I could go back then and relive it before becoming an adult. It is such a dream, and that's why MS will always be nostalgic to me.
i tried it and hated maplestory when i was a kid. runescape was a lot more fun despite being stupid too. then i played WoW and didn't need any other mmo until i stopped playing games as much when i got older.
Maplestory is a game I come back to every few years due to nostalgia. I've been playing since the beginning and even though i'm 30 now, it will forever have a special place in my heart.
I still feel the nostalgia of training at Ellinia and having to sit down for a few minutes to restore my mana because I was broke and couldn't afford mana potions. While waiting, I was just chatting to people and that was awesome!
Maplestory is the most nostalgic thing possible for me. Back in the ancient times of 2007-2009, I was a Radio DJ for a streaming station called Maple-Radio. We were affiliated and had radio/free market events with Nexon and the Game Masters. DJ Ether of Bera here, keep it locked at Maple-Radio, where Partying is our Lifestyle
I got perm banned for spamming about maple radio in the FM. I then won 25k nx from one of y'all's giveaways the same day. I got unbanned thankfully but I definitely cried. I still playy original account to this day. I loved maple radio
Calling MapleStory a "Comfort MMO" definitely describes how I've played it throughout the years. Come back from school/work, grab a snack and mess around on Maple for a bit. No pressure to keep up with end game, plenty of exploration, and the opportunity to just chill with friends in a cool world. Thanks for covering an old fave!
@@Sammysapphira There is no purpose of Orbis ship or Ludi ship or Ariant genie anymore. The tree in the center of Vic Island can get you to literally any town because of the Angelic Buster portal. And to go back to Henesys or a big town, you just go to Mushroom Shrine. I think you can get there via Momijogaoka but I forgot how to get to Momijigaoka. It's been a while since I played. Or if you want to go straight to Mushroom Shrine then you can just stock up on the potions at Showa. It's dumb how you can just so easily travel everywhere. And now literally every character has that hermit flash jump skill.
@@ricenoodles632It died when the game shifted to completing dailies and weeklies. They had to streamline access to maps and bosses to facilitate that.
Same, it's absolutely trash now though... Tried to play again on 5 different occasions, just can't do it... Maps seem cluttered, there's too much content that's inaccessible at the start but shoved in your face anyway... Such a shame.
Played it through the Beta when there was no cash shop and only a handful of zones. The community was unreal - websites like Sleepywood, thesauna, mapletip, were huge hubs to trade/meet people/etc think the Beta server was called Tespia and the "end game content" was basically Mushmom and Jr Balrog farming. No cash shop made it super cool though because you could see who legitimately had the best stuff
I really prefer the old MapleStory, because now it seems everything is easier in the game. Having to travel the whole map for a specific thing, was exactly what made it enjoyable for me. I felt like I was travelling. My first ride on that flying ship to Orbis was so magical, I felt like I was leaving the nest to discover the world!
If you want to play Old School MapleStory again, look up MapleRoyals or MapleLegends, trust me they both have everything that old school MapleStory had
I still remember the days of just having fun by chilling with my online friends, looting mesos from bishop spamming genesis, playing drop games 😂. Man those were the days
Dog I just wanna cry. The music. The graphics. Mais first training. Building the beach chair from pio question. I miss being fucking 10 years old. I’m 25 now and I just wanna go back. Hunting at pig beach, slime tree, henesys training ground. Man. This game is so fuckin special to me. Couldn’t wait to get home from school to play with my friends, had MSN open in the background. I hate growing up so much. Every time I hear MS music I want to Cry. It hurts so much
Search Maple story world Global offshore servers coming soon South Korean gamers are enjoying a classic maple game called maple land The nostalgia and memories of childhood will soon be available to international users. The sentence may not be accurate due to the translator.
maplestory was honestly like my first social media and it was magical talking to people all over the world. i was really into it 2007-2013 or so and i miss how it felt playing back then. i go back to it every once in a while but the community now just isn’t the same; although i’d love to get a little group together and just hang out instead of being hyper focused on leveling. i have so many fond memories of dging, exploring, and just taking to people, it really was a big part of my childhood. ALSO the music is amazing, one of the best video game soundtracks edit: just remembered in middle school i even chose my laptop based on the page d/u, home, etc. button layout that was best for maplestory lmao
I still love the game after the nearly 17 years of playing. I just hate that it's more focused on solo play now. No more PQ's, nerfed exp while grinding as a party, just way more beneficial to do things solo. I loved grinding in LHC1 or Second Drill Hall with a group of 6, chatting with eachother. Solo grinding feels way more boring so i can't do it as much. I know PQ's are still in the game, but they're not done as much as in the past.
Yeah, I feel you. However we will be getting our first party content back with Ignition! Monster Park Extreme is best played as a party and gives a ton of EXP for the level. You just have to be lvl 260+ hahaha. But hey, if it works we might get something similar for lower levels? Fingers crossed!
One of my favourite memories was right before the 2nd anniversary, someone sold a Maple Shield for an insane amount of mesos (a few billions) cuz it was super rare. Less than a week later the anniversary event hit and Maple Shields dropped left and right and they sold for about 1k. xD
As a mage level 26 using double claw and hiting 160/160 I saw another mage passing by and then he suddenly uses a double claw 550/550 my eyes almost fell, this little thing has remained in my memories for 17 years now.
I still remember my first character in Bera (mage) that went strength (because my dumb kid self found a mace and wanted to use it), ran into the sleepywood area by accident because I was running around like a headless chicken and then died to jr. Neckis because all my attacks would miss causing me to get trapped in sleepywood since I was too dumb to buy a return scroll. Man, the amount of panic I was in back then was definitely something given that I spent like an hour rolling for my character's stats.
the music alone gives me the feels right away. such good times. I still play it to check on new classes from time to time. Still holds up great for a filthy casual like me
As much as maplestory was a big part of my teenage years growing up, I can never bring myself back to it. I guess that it's just the endless grinding and having to play solo knowing that my friends aren't playing it anymore, that just kills my mood for the game. The nostalgia never fails to hit me, even after listening to the tracks to sleep for years; but it's just a game that shall be enjoyed in memory. Thanks maplestory for all the fun memories you've given me
Other than the endless grinding part, everything is on point to an extent lmao. Solo play is true for the grinding and bossing once you're funded enough to do so, but it was, is, and always will be an endless grinding game lmao. Koreans love their grindy games.
@@Picolnir like wtf is this person smoking? You can actually reasonably progress with your grind now and legion gives you a reason to make all the classes
Started playing this when I was in elementary school, I think the 5th year... I'm now a 27 year old adult with a house, partner, pets etc and I still play it every now and then. Love it
We need way more videos like this, instead of negative clickbait talking about what went wrong we need to celebrate those mmo experiences and the unique gameplay that made these old mmos great. Thanks a lot for making this video, maplestory was THE mmo that shaped my early childhood. A shame that we can't have a more modern social mmo around these days. c:
I still have no idea why Nexon wouldn't do a classic server, a lot of old MMOs did this, like WoW. It was clearly a better game version for a lot of peoples, and I used to play in old private server, like MapleRoyals. Nexon could have sued them as well, but it's too late now. Plus, the private servers don't have aggregous monetization, you mostly buy premium skins and stuffs, so it's not like they would steal much.
Crazy to think that this game is almost 20 years old. I'm definitely no master at this game because I've been such an off and on mapler. Started playing back in 05. A lot of nostalgia in this video :(
The Cygnus Knights update hits some kind of deep core memory by just even hearing it said. That and the resistance update, I remember going from a level 170 aran to playing nothing but Mechanic for thousands of hours
Updates were 100% different back then. Cygnus, Aran, Big Bang, Evan, Dual Blades, Resistance, Mechanic for Resistance, it all felt magical and special for me up until Luminous, loved Lumi, but idk just grew up or something.
I'm 30 now and I come back to MapleStory every year and play a few days, chilling and grinding just to remember the good old days. I still have fond memories of some friends I had back there on Kahini and sometimes I wonder how life turned out for those I shared moments back in the day, I hope they're doing well.
i turn 28 later this month and i still come around and chill even if GRAZED is pretty much dead. i made a ton of good friends and so many good experiences, it sucks the game isn’t what it used to be but i’m glad i got to enjoy it
Same here, turning 28 soon. Loved doing kpq and seeing / getting killed by balrogs on the Orbis ferry for the first time, and the incredibly friendly Community back in the day.
7:48 Here's the REAL deets that LP glossed over: - Big Bang update SIMPLIFIED ALL MAPS made them all smaller and boring - added "QoL" features that made everything too efficient and linear (no need to travel anymore, instanced bosses, etc.) which ultimately killed a lot of the imagination in the game and drove players toward a min-max mindset - Introduction of miracle cube$ and the potential $y$tem, OMEGALUL I'M NOT EVEN GONNA START ON THIS GAMEBREAKING SYSTEM - AND THERE'S NO WAY TO REVERSE IT. - Each update after this CHIPPED AWAY AT ALL THE SOCIAL SYSTEMS IN FAVOUR OF SOLO PLAY - "Everyone has a double jump or a teleport" this is so true and it makes EVERY CLASS THE SAME. There is no uniqueness of identity between classes. There are no more tanks in the game because all the bosses have multiple 1hko moves - i.e. your hp doesn't matter. - it's easy to level up now, thus skip all the early gameplay content to hit the boring grind of the latest update. (that said, all the early gameplay systems were "revamped" (linearized) and it's all a chore now anyway - rerolling being painful - actually made you invested in your character when you finally rolled a perfect stat. Now you hardly care about each character cos you'll move on to a new class after a week or two when that char reaches 200. For these reasons I'm never going back, their new content belongs in the trash. It's not even nostalgia - I played modern maple with a friend as fresh meat, then we switched to MapleRoyals and he was like "is this the same game? Old maple is way more fun. wth?"
@TheLazyPeon - PLEASE try an early maplestory private server for comparison (v83 is really popular - I recommend MapleRoyals) AND SEE THE CONTRAST FOR YOURSELF. It's NIGHT AND DAY.
I miss the good old days where we all didn't have the crazy stresses of the world. The amount of times I would just listen the OST and would relax as a teen are countless.
what i wish is that the top 5 first lvl 200 would all meet up and talk about the old days, strats, friendships, etc. and what they do now. kind of like a proper send off since they most likely will never touch the game again. Pretty sure all the people that play/played maplestory would love that video and pay their respects to the legends as a thanks for everything they contributed to the game.
Damn, this really brings me back. I still remember running home from elementary school to play with my boys. Might have to jump back in just to scratch that nostalgia itch.
The thing I remember most from maplestory was that in some grass type of lobby some players would throw these eggs on top of somewhere that was almost impossible to reach and you would see ALL these players jumping for it trying to loot the egg. I think this was right next to the starting zone.
Takes me back. I think you make a good point about the difference between Maplestory and other MMOs. It's really more about the grind and making friends than it ever was about end game. Or at least it used to be!
I generally prefer to play solo in mmo's ~ but maplestory was really fun to be really social in, I think the emotes being so clear and natural (and easy to use) in game, really made a huge difference.
Chilling in Ludibrium then racing friends to Ludi Pq was so fun. The ship ride to Orbis where Balrogs randomly appeared. Kerning pq racing back to the npc. Fallen Angels auto clicker set to -1. Great memories
i remember doing the Ludi PQ for Hours a day to level from 30 to 50 or so if i am not mistaken... today i level up a bowman from scratch to lvl 80 by randomly farming the monster encyclopedia.
Ya. Most of us had to hide from the Balrogs below deck but some would curiously go out only to become a tombstone with the other tombstones on top deck haha
Absolutely amazing video, the nostalgia at the end almost made me cry! One thing I think you forgot to mention is that unless you're playing with an already established group of friends, the game just isn't anywhere near as social as it was before. People are more quiet, more people grind alone, and there just isn't as much of a focus on casual, social gaming anymore
It's one of my biggest problems with the current game, there isn't enough organic social interaction anymore. you're too focused on dailies and grinding and all the systems, the only time you're pushed to interact with people is seeking boss carries or struggle parties. I miss the old days of making friends in pqs and hanging out with them in Henesys. I know that players have changed and so has the internet, but man I wish we could have that same community feeling the old game had. Nowadays its almost intimidating trying to find friends because everyone is already in their tight knit social group from playing for so long. The game needs more reasons to force the players to interact, instead of making everything easily solo-able (except for the harder mid-late game bosses, but by the time you've gotten to that point you've probably spent most of your time grinding alone unless you have friends playing with you)
I agree with you, but it seems like it's not a Maple Story only issue, it's more a general direction in gaming nowadays where people just don't want to/ either are afraid of talking to strangers online so they form their own discord groups and don't dare meet anyone outside of their bubbles. While I get the idea that it's due to kids being taken through these games, catfishes and abductions and whatnot, it's still leading us in a direction where people will eventually shut off from society and we'll all end up socially isolated in our own echo chambers and it sucks that we can't instead have better online skills instead of telling kids and people to "not trust strangers online"...
@@ayszhang That's not what happened though, the entire scape of gaming has changed substantially. Socializing has moved to things like Discord instead of chatting ingame. Not to mention solo grinding is more encouraged than playing with friends
2 main games back when I was a kid: Maplestory and War Rock I'd honestly have nights where I would just leave the login screen open to fall asleep to the music, the game has such a great soundtrack
I will never forget how excited I was when Aran was coming out, or even just the pirate classes and seeing and dreaming about getting all those cool high level skills, never to get there XD
the amount of people just hanging out around that corner of the map outside the Sleepywood path the day before Pirate got released is a core gaming memory for me
i still listen to the maplestory pre-big bang ost. it's just such an iconic moment in my childhood. even the music videos and old maple series i would watch too
Woah I've never been so early. MapleStory was my first MMo. I remember diving into all the guides and restarting my character so many times. Such great memories!
I've used to play Maplestory from 2005 - 2013 as a Bowmaster. Did a lot of Zakum boss runs pre-Big Bang with a small guild, but never gotten to experience Horn Tail boss runs. I had to buy a Horn Tail necklace from one of the top elite guild in GMS, and they have to log into my account for them to get the Horn Tail necklace on my behalf. Leveling was super slow pre-Big Bang and I was stuck around level 150 - 155.
I remember when a friend first told me about maplestory while in school one day. I ended up downloading it after school and played it all weekend! As time went on, I would always come back and try out whatever new class or update. But it has reached a point of just being a completely different game. Kind of like EOC for Runescape. I still play Maplestory today, but on a v0.62 private server, MapleLegends.
Are the progression servers the only non p2w? I want to check it out, but plan to play at my own pace. I'll get into it, when I get into it, basically If its separate servers then I'm torn between the cozy feeling of just enjoying the game, or the veteran server w no p2w Chances are I can still take my time in the vet servers, but I probs won't run or see others doing the same as much as other servers
Reboot is the most populated server. and yes it's the only non p2w server. but you really shouldnt expect to see people, the social parts of the game died long ago.
The time when there were only the first 4 classes was the best. My childhood right there. I remember going for strength on my wizard and not being able to use the correct gears cause of no stats. I had to literally arm myself with a mace autoattacling green jellies.
It says a LOT about MapleStory's success that I haven't touched the game in well over a decade, yet the second Lazy popped on that main theme at the end of the video I was humming it flawlessly like i played the game yesterday. Thanks for the trip down memory lane LP! I only wish MapleStory 2 had gotten a better run. :T
What a fun coincidence xD. I happened to re-dl the game yesterday because they recently made some major QoL updates, from beginners to elite players, to help the game feels less "annoying" on some parts.
The time where people who play MMORPGs are not complaining about everything, that the game being hard and grindy. Just enjoying every bit of it, the grind, the memories, and the friends we make along the way.
i have played maplestory for 16 years now. Im still playing the old school maple in a private server that has around 1000 playerbase which is good enough for a game like this to keep the market echonomy and maps alive. active guilds, constant updates to the server from a fairly big staff. After 16 years, im still enjoying the nostalgia.
Absolutely loved maplestory! Enjoyed it a lot from 2006 to like 2010 or so, played for about 2-3 months after Big Bang when all my friends quit. I picked it back up last year and think it can definitely still be fun, however it felt so empty. No parties, no one else at my “noob” level of 160 or so. Think the game still has potential but it needs to be redirected in some way I think. Anyways, good video highlighting some positives of today maple. Old maple wouldn’t work now anymore sadly, no matter how many people think it will, it was too slow for games and people nowadays. Once the nostalgia is gone people will drop it gaining 0.004 % exp a mob at lvl 45
I'm not as old as other players but ever since I was three years old and my cousin let me play this game on his computer i've been hooked, im 18 now and its still my favorite game of all time its great to see that content creators still remind everyone about this magical game
Ah, I have some great memories from Maplestory back in the day. I actually played long enough and successfully enough that I became like a B-tier celebrity within the game, and an A-tier one on my server. I played an unpopular subclass (Sniper/Marksman), was really powerful thanks to my mercantile skills and sheer amount of hours I put into the game, and also made pretty decent youtube videos which I shared on various forums and communities that I participated in. Met my first girlfriend through that game, and still have some friends from those days. The videos I made are still on my channel, haha.
I remember the days. I was Soul riven on Bera and toted that 39 stat kismet pre potentials and enhancements. Funny story, I remember killing an Iron pig and getting another red kismet in my inventory and then accidently vendoring the wrong kismet before buyback was a thing. That was HORIBLE and sad day, but then I scrolled a +8 (+30%) 45 dex Arzuna after spending around 1.5billion mesos in a panic fury. I remember spending 50mil on the first casa crow from Pap in Bera and then being a baller and getting 1 10% and 5 60% on it. Totally made my raven trash. I saw your name, didn't you have a godly maple crossbow? 4 10% I feel like I remember that from a decade ago. Im almost certain you were not on Bera. Cheers from one classic marksman to another
@@AlaskanAndrew Yeah, I was on Khaini. It was a Maple Nishada, so like the advanced version of the maple crossbows (lvl 64 and fast attack speed). I think it was 4x 30s and then 3 60s, then 2 more 60s after those scroll slot increasing hammers came out. Later I got super lucky with the first 4 slots of an amazing dragon shiner crossbow, so I made it my mission to white scroll the rest of it with pink 50% crossbow scrolls, and recorded a video of that several month process and turned it into a two minute video for my channel.
@@Hotshot2k4 haha yeah. I know our classic maple experience won't ever come back, but those were the days weren't they? I remember getting to level 79 before 3rd job was a thing. And when I got strafe as a sniper... I'll never forget how awesome that was. I remember that I went to spirit vikings at level 89 and it took me 3 blizzards and 7 strafe before I killed one and stayed there till 108 and moved to ancient spirit vikings at that time. I'd farm like 1-2 ilbis a day and make 70m. Dang. It was so long ago but thinking about this made it all come rushing back. Sorry to talk nostalgically like this. Those were simpler days. Like you I met lifelong friends on MapleStory and some I still keep in contact with to this day.
@@AlaskanAndrew Oh no worries, I have a bunch of super specific memories from those days too, and it's nice to randomly run into someone else who does as well. I only started sometime between the releases of 3rd and 4th job, and even though 3rd job wasn't a new thing when I reached it, those first Strafes felt absolutely amazing. Although we had lots of fancy and flashy skills, 3rd job archers were basically low mobility assassins who couldn't jump and then shoot while in the air, so when 4th job came out and we got Sharp Eyes, I remember feeling really vindicated, since now the assassins needed us for their damage to not suck. I'm very grateful for the memories and connections I made back then, but man the game was kind of a pain in the ass when you actually wanted to level up, haha. The sheer amount of time I spent circling the same maps day after day - I wouldn't do it all again! That game was so social because it had to be, it would be too painful to progress so slowly without friends!
I played from 2006-2008. Two days ago I logged back on for the first time in 14 years. Made a new character, and played for about 5 hours total so far. This game has a huge spot in my heart. The music alone brings me back to a very comforting feeling and making online friends for the first time. I wish the game was still like it was back in the day I feel like it would be appreciated way more. Today it's almost totally different, but I am hoping to stick with it for a while and will update how I feel about the game here, in the weeks to come.
So, how do you feel about the game? I am reading this comment and can't help but to have thoughts of beginning my own Maple journey, yet again, for the 20th time in the past 15 years.
@@cruciowz I'm absolutely addicted. It is so much fun. Reboot is amazing, people are super helpful, and the grinding is as fun as ever! Still playing everyday since I posted this!
@@cruciowz Just now seeing this, Yeah my guild's discord. I dm a few of the friends I've made so far but mostly just chat in game I'm still playing though! I try to play at least an hour a day. Sometimes 3-4 hours
I forgot about having to roll for stats. I made many characters I didn’t use just because the starting stats rolled were too perfect for the class to ignore
The old feeling maplestory grind only starts hitting around 200, at 232, I feel the grind. The annoying part is getting up to that part. The game only starts getting social around that range since the grind starts hitting hard people are more likely just to talk
I put so much time into MapleStory back in like, 2007. I remember spending dozens of hours killing coolies, the zombies in el nath, to get my assassin to hermit. There was no fourth job or pirate at that point. The game is so different now, you can level to 70 in an hour... Last year I spent a lot of time on a private server called maple legends. Maple royals is good too.
man the music the nostalgia brings warmness to my heart and tears to my eyes this was my favorite game on pc growing up i am 34 now and this game is forever in my heart childhood memories last forever
Modern Maple is a true hellscape. The amount of dailies you are required to do breaks the soul. The time-gating in the Arcane River is insane. Let Maple remain a good memory instead of the actual chore it has become
I grew up playing this game. I was 7 years old when the beta launched for gms and my brothers got me into it. I've had a lot of childhood memories on there and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I couldn't get into the current gms because it never felt the same but I played every private server imaginable and I usually stick to mapleroyals due to my progression mostly being there. All v82 servers have that amazing nostalgic feeling if anyone's itching for a taste I'd recommend trying them out.
If you still want that classic nostalgic Old School Maplestory experience, there are a couple private servers out there that have been on going for 6+ years. Check out Maplelegends v62 (preferably) if you want a good classic old school Maple experience in 2022.
This was my childhood and my very first MMORPG which I played besides WoW. Often I was just sitting there and writing with friends I made online. Back then you was really socialising and my Friendlist was full. It was a really good time without worries and just vibing with the music.
"lifelong friends".. yep.. we are still in contact and we all live from different parts in the world. To all the people I met since 2006, wherever the rest of you all are, thank you for the most beautiful experience I've had in childhood. 80% of my entire personality formed inside maplestory.
For anyone who prefers old school MapleStory and wants to Play It Again, look up MapleRoyals and MapleLegends, trust me these have everything that old school MapleStory had
Or wait for MapleOdyssey. Better old school experience. Legends and Royals is NOT old maple. The economy is fucked, leech meta due to 4th job, multiclienting, etc.
Im still mindblown has this game still online and with decent population, i played when it got released when it only had four classes, it was fun and very challenging cause back then you didnt have potions dropping, the exp was so little, i remember taking a full week to get to level 30, few years later i came back to play with Aran then later on luminous and that was the last time i played, the game its fun but more enjoyable if you have friends to do activities.
I see Maplestory, I click. Too much nostalgia not to. I just recently added some Maplestory OST songs to my Game Music playlist on Spotify. Ahh the good times.
Maplestory is my fav childhood game that brings the most emotions, reminds me of how time can be slow and enjoyable. Did we change or the time have changed? I only know that those times will only be sweet memories.I personally feel it's just a different game now, kudos to those still playing!
I miss MapleStory gave so much of my middle school to early high school years to that beast. It was weird, it was like we no one was playing MapleStory then one day everyone I knew was playing MapleStory.
This is the first MMO I played and basically thought me typing as a kid as I was frantically trying to keep-up with the chat lol. MapleStory will forever have a special place in my heart...
This was one of the most social games I had ever played. That was a true place in my heart. Now socializing is done on social media, not in game. So the whole dynamic is changed...
That old school Orbis boat music always brings a tear to my eye. Many of the songs do to be honest but that dang Orbis ride always gets me.. Much love to all Maplers old or new
One thing that I really enjoyed but felt like they didn't capitalize on was the branching classes. Like how cool would it have branching classes for each job instead of the move to heros. I would've at least liked to see the resistance get a branching class progression but they didn't either I do like how fast the movement is now picking it back up I also enjoy not grinding forever just for 1 lvl
I made my account when I was 15 back in 2005 and I still have it . Blows my mind that I can get to level 200 in the time it too to hit level 30 all those years ago
The main thing that keeps me from coming back to maplestory is how intimidating the gear related(min-max) side of things have become in order to progress further. You would need to understand star force mechanics, how to properly scroll your gear/enhance your gear, mp/hp washing, how the 5th job system works, etc. Despite having guides on these topics, absolutely none of it feels simple/digest-able enough for it not to become a massive hurdle towards one's enjoyment of the game, especially if you'd like to do more than simply grinding in nostalgia.
HP washing is not a thing in current maple, that was old maple. 5th job is actually easier to understand than 4th job. While yea they can throw you off at first there is a lot of guides. grinding is easier these days and feels much smoother than it ever has, even on crappy classes
I never played Maplestory but damn the internet cafe that I used to go to back from 2009 to 2011 had a lot of people playing this... You could see like 10 PCs or more playing Maplestory and the others were playing Cross Fire I was probably the only one playing Grand Chase at the time lol
Just got back into the game a few weeks ago and it's surprising how well it's held up over the years. Haven't touched it in 10 years, and it feels like an entirely new game but still has hints of what it used to be like. Everything just bigger, faster, flashier.
Login music hits the feels like a thousand pound of bricks. Makes me realize how im no longer an innocent kid grinding exp in maplestory anymore, but trying to adult in world that doesnt seem so pretty anymore.
Bro this game was so good, it's not the same anymore , even the characters are op , too many crazy moves that kills everything. I remember it was impressive to be a level 120. It ended up becoming play to win, and I wish there were games like old maple. I haven't found a single game as perfect since old maplestory
played at launch, some of my best memories of mmo days. Great friends and community but man that was 20 years ago. Till these day once in awhile i still search for "2006 GMS maplestory" in YT for the OG OST. Does the game introduced Gachapon concept on MMO? I'm not sure but it surely did for me.
Check out Maplestory today: i.try.games/Maple-Story/2n1qrl Choose from over 30 customizable classes and save the world from the evil Black Mage
@@Eksistenssi If they pay him.
I wish I played this game back in the day.
It is such a dream, and that's why MS will always be nostalgic to me.
i used to just afk in Ellinia and turn off the screen but leave my speaker on..
i tried it and hated maplestory when i was a kid. runescape was a lot more fun despite being stupid too. then i played WoW and didn't need any other mmo until i stopped playing games as much when i got older.
Wished we could turn back time, to the good ol' days.

Oh my god. I listened to maple radio religiously. Love you dj ether
I remember requesting songs through maple radio.. good times.
A living legend
No way bro... I remember Maple Radio like it was yesterday. Holy shit.
I got perm banned for spamming about maple radio in the FM. I then won 25k nx from one of y'all's giveaways the same day.
I got unbanned thankfully but I definitely cried.
I still playy original account to this day.
I loved maple radio
everytime i hear he maplestory music i always tear up a lil, this game has been a big part of my life.
Same. Sitting here on a Sunday morning & my anxiety is thru the roof cause of this. But well worth it haha.
Whatever happened to the exploration aspect of the game? I remember even traveling to Orbis felt like a gaming revolution of some sort lol.
@@ricenoodles632 Feel free to walk if you want.
@@sebbie_gonzo Which is why I play primarily on MapleLegends and occasionally on MapleRoyals servers instead of the official one.
MapleStory was my absolute favorite MMO as a kid. So many great times.
Same
2005~2012 were the best years
Same, it's absolutely trash now though... Tried to play again on 5 different occasions, just can't do it... Maps seem cluttered, there's too much content that's inaccessible at the start but shoved in your face anyway... Such a shame.
Played it through the Beta when there was no cash shop and only a handful of zones. The community was unreal - websites like Sleepywood, thesauna, mapletip, were huge hubs to trade/meet people/etc
think the Beta server was called Tespia and the "end game content" was basically Mushmom and Jr Balrog farming. No cash shop made it super cool though because you could see who legitimately had the best stuff
@@spizzeh It will never be the same again to be honest. Nostalgy plays a huge factor.
I really prefer the old MapleStory, because now it seems everything is easier in the game. Having to travel the whole map for a specific thing, was exactly what made it enjoyable for me. maplestory was honestly like my first social media and it was magical talking to people all over the world. i was really into it 2007-2013 or so and i miss how it felt playing back then. i go back to it every once in a while but the community now just isn’t the same; although i’d love to get a little group together and just hang out instead of being hyper focused on leveling. i have so many fond memories of dging, exploring, and just taking to people, it really was a big part of my childhood. ALSO the music is amazing, one of the best video game soundtracks
edit: just remembered in middle school i even chose my laptop based on the page d/u, home, etc. button layout that was best for maplestory lmao
I thought this game got taken down. Is it still up?
@@keiatv1178 Maplestory 2 got taken down. The first MapleStory still up.
I can skill remember the exact moment when my friend started hitting 7k's with his fire arrow on f/p mage.

A lot of private servers out there for this
Yeah, servers like MapleLegends or MapleRoyals are a great way to get that nostalgic high. I play on Legends and it hasa pretty fun and nice community
It's a clusterfck now. I wish they'd just remake it and clean it up, make questing actually interesting and overall just make it good again.
@@lv6slime321 mapleroyals and legends are pretty bad if you're looking for real nostalgic gameplay. Phoenix is the way to go.

The Cygnus Knights update hits some kind of deep core memory by just even hearing it said.
That and the resistance update, I remember going from a level 170 aran to playing nothing but Mechanic for thousands of hours
Ah the good days, plus even the demon slayer update was wild for me back then.

Fucking party quest had us sitting outside looking for work like it’s the Home Depot parking lot. PQ!!
7:48 Here's the REAL deets that LP glossed over:
- Big Bang update SIMPLIFIED ALL MAPS made them all smaller and boring
- added "QoL" features that made everything too efficient and linear (no need to travel anymore, instanced bosses, etc.) which ultimately killed a lot of the imagination in the game and drove players toward a min-max mindset
- Introduction of miracle cube$ and the potential $y$tem, OMEGALUL I'M NOT EVEN GONNA START ON THIS GAMEBREAKING SYSTEM - AND THERE'S NO WAY TO REVERSE IT.
- Each update after this CHIPPED AWAY AT ALL THE SOCIAL SYSTEMS IN FAVOUR OF SOLO PLAY
- "Everyone has a double jump or a teleport" this is so true and it makes EVERY CLASS THE SAME. There is no uniqueness of identity between classes. There are no more tanks in the game because all the bosses have multiple 1hko moves - i.e. your hp doesn't matter.
- it's easy to level up now, thus skip all the early gameplay content to hit the boring grind of the latest update. (that said, all the early gameplay systems were "revamped" (linearized) and it's all a chore now anyway
- rerolling being painful - actually made you invested in your character when you finally rolled a perfect stat.
Mate, 6:30 you straight up say South Korea when showing Singapore.
Or at least it used to be!
it was about the adventure, the journey, the friends made along the way, but above all else...
It was your story.
I remember this game every single day. I'm still playing after 15 years. Happy Mapling guys! :D
@@TacticalDimples Dying was actually a thing back then
Yoooo the racing to Ludi PQ from the town, you just brought me so many memories...
We don't have time to waste as adults. Ofc when we were kids we could afford to socialize
@@ayszhang That's not what happened though, the entire scape of gaming has changed substantially. Socializing has moved to things like Discord instead of chatting ingame. Not to mention solo grinding is more encouraged than playing with friends

Ah maple story 2 was so cool! Totally different. I took a break from it and when I came back it was shut down. Talk about a mood killer lol
What a fun coincidence xD. I happened to re-dl the game yesterday because they recently made some major QoL updates, from beginners to elite players, to help the game feels less "annoying" on some parts.

I picked it back up last year and think it can definitely still be fun, however it felt so empty. No parties, no one else at my “noob” level of 160 or so. Think the game still has potential but it needs to be redirected in some way I think. Anyways, good video highlighting some positives of today maple.
What an unexpected surprise. A Lazy Peon video on my childhood core. Thx!
Is there a discord server that you're in?
@@cruciowz Just now seeing this, Yeah my guild's discord. I dm a few of the friends I've made so far but mostly just chat in game
I'm still playing though! I try to play at least an hour a day. Sometimes 3-4 hours
I forgot about having to roll for stats. I made many characters I didn’t use just because the starting stats rolled were too perfect for the class to ignore
I really wish they'd bring back Maplestory 2 :(
you can play maplestory2 on a private server maplestars2 ^^
I did enjoy the early days of MapleStory. When it was super grindy, and just getting level 50+ was a major accomplishment.
The old feeling maplestory grind only starts hitting around 200, at 232, I feel the grind. The annoying part is getting up to that part. The game only starts getting social around that range since the grind starts hitting hard people are more likely just to talk
Unless they release a classic version, i will never play this game again.

They will mess that up like how blizz messed up wow classic at least we have osrs.
Greatest mmo in its time

man the music the nostalgia brings warmness to my heart and tears to my eyes this was my favorite game on pc growing up i am 34 now and this game is forever in my heart childhood memories last forever

There is alot of misinformation in this video. This game is a grind fest and the Quests are not lucrative at all.
Not anymore really
wow the memories!! old school RuneScape and maple were my favorite games when I was a teenager 🥺
Discovering a video game through a fan music video was just peak '00s Internet culture.
This was my childhood and my very first MMORPG which I played besides WoW. Often I was just sitting there and writing with friends I made online. Back then you was really socialising and my Friendlist was full. It was a really good time without worries and just vibing with the music.
"it taking a week to go from level 1 to 30" only a week? it took me 2 years
"lifelong friends".. yep.. we are still in contact and we all live from different parts in the world. To all the people I met since 2006, wherever the rest of you all are, thank you for the most beautiful experience I've had in childhood. 80% of my entire personality formed inside maplestory.
I started playing again 2 months ago after a several year hiatus. No regrets. Playing reboot makes it feel a lot more accessible than it used to be.
The only thing left for me from old-school MS is classic bgm and memorable materials like this
For anyone who prefers old school MapleStory and wants to Play It Again, look up MapleRoyals and MapleLegends, trust me these have everything that old school MapleStory had
Or wait for MapleOdyssey. Better old school experience. Legends and Royals is NOT old maple. The economy is fucked, leech meta due to 4th job, multiclienting, etc.
playing maplestory when i was 14 was the happiest time of my life. i remember playing a dexless assassin in a bathrobe.

Ahh the music is so nostalgic!! This was my life in the early 2000s and then I found La Tale.
I see Maplestory, I click. Too much nostalgia not to. I just recently added some Maplestory OST songs to my Game Music playlist on Spotify. Ahh the good times.

I have fond memories of ludi pq. I spent soo much time in ludibrium leveling

I will never forget the awesome times i had when summoning crimsom balrogs in kerning city while noobs were queuing up for kerning pq
I would've at least liked to see the resistance get a branching class progression but they didn't either
I do like how fast the movement is now picking it back up I also enjoy not grinding forever just for 1 lvl
I made my account when I was 15 back in 2005 and I still have it . Blows my mind that I can get to level 200 in the time it too to hit level 30 all those years ago
man, the music still brings me back everytime i hear it.
Thanks Lazy, for the dose of nostalgia

You could see like 10 PCs or more playing Maplestory and the others were playing Cross Fire
I was probably the only one playing Grand Chase at the time lol
I just wish right now I could just go back to 2006 and just play maplstory all over again
Just got back into the game a few weeks ago and it's surprising how well it's held up over the years. Haven't touched it in 10 years, and it feels like an entirely new game but still has hints of what it used to be like. Everything just bigger, faster, flashier.
I was trying to remember a maplestory music video when I stumbled upon u. ty
