I agree, the 8 speed should be available across all trims, I also agree regarding the engine, but it makes business sense because it forces you to spend 2k on AWD.

The Trailblazer is similar. You get a 9 speed auto with AWD and a CVT with everything else. GM said the CVT can’t fit with the additional AWD components, or something like that.
The interiors look decent but I could never get over how cheap the materials feel. I hate the chalky plastic they use for buttons on everything from a Spark to an Escalade.

GM is a good option there, and one of the few choices left. But $36k is a Honda CRV hybrid with AWD, a reliable naturally aspirated 204hp 2.0L engine plus (immediate torque) electric motor, and 37 (!!!) MPG combined. No charging/plug-in needed.

Hi owner of a 2018 terrain 1.5T and all I can say is great things. 111k miles and no issues at all I have AWD and the system works great the interior held up great and I’ll say the 9 speed has been reliable but sluggish. A lot of gear hunting but overall an amazing car and better than the CRV’s CVT
For what? When that engine was available it wasn't sold in good numbers I don't know why people say "there should be this or that" and no one buys that option, all higher spec engines for cars is dying off on all brands.
Needs a V6 and ditch the turbos since turbo engines are less reliable than NA engines. Don’t give me the mileage BS because the gain is negligible, maybe 1 or 2 MPG. Not enough to make it extra complicated.

This New Chevy Equinox needs the following upgrades: The 2.0 Turbo Engine found in the Cadillac XT4. Get rid of the Shark Fin on the rear window. Adapt the vertical Center Screen from the New GMC Terrain. This vehicle needs more chrome around the windows and shines aluminum polished bright wheels.
I had the 1.5t and drove it to 120,000 miles I bought it brand new and just got it all it’s scheduled maintenance, I upgraded to a challenger. The only problem I had was with the electrical when it rained but this engine didn’t leave me stranded my only complaint is it needs more power.
Good review, but why does GM do this? They highlighted the Traverse being updated, but I heard no reveal of this. They did this with the 2nd gen Cruze and Volt getting overshadowed by the Malibu and Camaro, I did not even know the Cruze was getting a 2nd generation until I started seeing them in driveways.

Let's just be honest - while we can appreciate the fact they are keeping the affordable compact SUV Chevy has a reliability record with their smaller displacement engines that makes Ford look good.
This has the same window on the back side as the Terrain. Chevy could have been more creative and designed it like they did the Equinox EV, it would have been so much more stylish. Also I think they should have done a hybrid, they have a partnership with Honda, use one of their hybrids. Chevy's thinking is if people want electrification they can buy an EV, not everyone is sold on the idea of an EV yet. At least not until the range is around 400-500 miles.
I wish the black wheels were 17 inch with beefy 65 profile sidewalls. The pricing is pretty darn good for the LT before you add packages. My local dealer adds an adendum sticker that starts off with a $1000 wax job and interior sprayed down with 3M. Like a new car really needs that crap. C'mon, stop killing us with those add-ons.

Shifter looks like it was borrowed from Mercedes. My rental car customers got confused by it at first. I ran an office in a working class town, so not a lot of new Mercedes around.
GM's really improved their styling and design. The outgoing Equinox is one of the most meh cars that ever car-ed. I can feel the cheap plastic on those buttons from here though. I hate that cheap plastic GM uses on everything from a rental Malibu to a loaded Escalade. I'm happy column shifters are making a comeback, it's so satisfying being able to shift without taking my hands off the wheel. I question how well a highly-strung small turbo-4 with a CVT is going to hold up.
Its crazy they do the 1.5 175hp boring watt happened too the 2.0t in the ones a couple years ago they need too have engine options not just one engine 😂
Consumers did not buy enough of them, I was a doubter also, but the 1.5 suits most people and is reliable when maintained properly. Also keeps price down.
Bad decision 8 speed auto should be standard on all drivetrains. I'll keep my Boring & Unpopular 22 Equinox LT FWD that does everything I need. Thank you Chevrolet for pricing this out of the reach of a lot consumers .😮😮😮
Because there's no reason to put a 300+ horsepower engine in this class of crossover, there is no brand that does that and the customer for this class doesn't care for that.
Annoyed at GM. Wish the Equinox EV were more like the gas version, but with the electric powertrain.. The styling on this is better than the EV, but I'll never own another gas car, and especially not one with an engine as anemic as the 1.5L turbo. Every Equinox I've driven with that powertrain has been torture after being used to driving a Bolt.

Thanks for the concern, but I get around just fine. 300 miles is further than you think, and very rarely do I spend more than a few minutes at a public charger. Not hours. And even then, only a handful of times a year. It's not a big deal.

the gas equinox looks way better than the ev version. i want an ev or plug/in equinox but with body and design of the gas equinox. why did chevy do this. so stupid. i was in the market for an ev but came out with this. ugly..
I thought the previous Equinox was quite pretty. GM is smart to put their eggs in two different baskets by offering EV and gas versions of the same name, but designed and engineered separately for the drivetrain application. The fix is already in though as EV batteries are made by environmental destruction and slaves, and more than a decade into it EV's are failing because of those crap batteries and their huge consumption of energy... And because they're exploding. Other automakers who've pledged to go full EV are fools unless they can get a hold of zero-point energy technology and/or radioactive diamond batteries. Chevy's new design language is kinda bland to me, though not bad, and I'm glad gasoline is still on their menu for the foreseeable future.
For the money they are charging this SUV should have a small v-6 and a 6 speed transmission. They are grossly over charging for this vehicle. This present powertrain is for a much smaller car.why are you overpricing this car.
My grandmother bought one of the previous Equinoxes last year. It's the most meh car I've ever driven. I tried to get her to look at a Mazda but she's only ever owned GMs so an Equinox it was.

It's bad for their resale. Look at a recent Nissan article on the trouble they are in. Their cars aren't selling so Nissan just gave the ok for their dealers to sell to rental companies. This will boost sales but the problem is when rental companies replenish their inventory they flood the used market which destroys the models resale. This is the main reason why Toyota and Honda will not let their dealer Network sell to rental companies in mass numbers. Play can't stop a rental companies from buying their product but they put a cap on what they can buy which costs the rental companies too much money per car.

It's strange that Chevy decided to gatekeep the 8 speed automatic transmission behind AWD. They should have made it standard regardless of drivetrain.

I saw it in person in this color today, and the video doesn't do it justice as far as looks. It's beautiful.
The 1.5 in the outgoing Equinox is actually known for being pretty stout. If there was one think to knock it on, it wasn't that.

Hmmm, you guys know the headlight switch is in the screen right? Why is this only a problem in the Colorado and the Canyon?
It has Auto on/off headlights driven by sensors. You will never need to mess with the headlights.
