It's amazing how different a film can be when the objective is on the entertainment rather than politics, appeasing some tiny fraction of people, ..., ensuring no bugs were harmed or offended, and finally, objective #93, entertainment.
Nobody puts any effort into writing a script these days. I also notice all clothing, weapons, tac equipment always looks brand new store bought in modern westerns. Most people in the old days lived in their clothing and used what ever equipment they had until it fell apart and was no longer reusable.
You can not watch a better western. Bonus my favorite actor Robert Ryan. you will not find a tougher more stressful fulfilling movie. Everyone involved in this movie should be proud. One movie I felt sorry for the animals and actors. Thank you so much for sharing.
Robert Ryan was one of the most reliable actors in films. He should have won at least one Academy Awards. He was only nominated once, for supporting actor in "Crossfire" in 1947. He didn't win. A pity. He worked with some of the top directors of the time. And they wanted to work with him.
@@gordonmorris6359 I have all but 3 of his films on DVD and IMHO, his most villainous portrayal was as Claggert in Billy Budd. ABSOLUTELY frightening.😱
Great movie. I FIRST saw itvabout a year ago. I said "What the....." when Bruhm and his crew busted in! I said whoa this is going to be crazy. It is. Burk Ives doing it. He overshadowed Ryan in this movie. Crazy twist.
Raw, Realistic, and Repeatedly Rich! Every time I watch this, it gets better. I think this may be the debut of Tina Louise? ( or "God's Little Acre"? ) anyway, she was good. Ryan and Ives are always worth watching... Thanks.
That insane laughter caused my son”- in - law to come into my room and ask me to lower the volume on my movie so I may have to quit watching the movie. Thanks a lot. 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Tina Louise proved here that she could have been a much more serious actress. When she took the role of Ginger Grant in "Gilligan's Island" it had a similar effect on future movie producers that Marilyn Monroe had when she agreed to make a series of "cheesecake" roles in movies. It gets hard to shake an image once that image makes you iconic. By the same token, when "Gilligan's Island" Dawn Wells tried to sell herself as a sexy bad girl in roles ("The Invaders"), the audience wouldn't buy it.
Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling Pale Rider was largely inspired by this? The plain buildings, the snow capped mountains...the setting just seems similar
I enjoyed the dynamics of this movie. The storyline starts one way, then took a different spin toward a darker plot. When the really bad guy's rode into town. And raised mayhem with the towns people. Especially with the females, who had nowhere to run or hide. Even though it was fictional. The reality would had been unforgiven. Overall the movie is worth watching.
Burl Ives was very popular in the 1960's, I was a kid then and I thought he was great in so many different roles, like in Ensign Pulver, The Big Country, East of Eden, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, and as Santa in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
IMO, this movie ‘Day of the Outlaw’ is more 'noir' uncolored as the artist intended. The starkness of the landscape is highlighted better in black and white, just as the severity of the clashing human emotions are. Colorizing this movie defiles it.
I remember watching this movie and Earnest Borguine told this funny story about how Spencer Tracy manipulated the camera man to steal every scene for himself. That man was a genius!
This is one of my favourite westerns, but I don't think it's improved by having a small child colouring over the negative with some poorly-chosen crayons.
Did I miss something? Did the Robert Ryan character just ride them around in circles not far from where they started? If not, how could he return so easily and not be overcome by the cold?
Better than any 'modern' movie I've seen this week.
Love Robert Ryan.
Burl Ives always played a great villain type.

My Dad thought the sun rose with Burl Ives singing. He was a fantastic actor as well.
This was a great movie. Thank you for sharing it.
Robert Ryan. He was one of the greats. I always liked him, and appreciated his work.
Didn't take me but a few seconds to recognize the Central Oregon scenery. Absolutely beautiful country any time of year.
A great era for films when they understood something about the balance between characterisation, build-up and action.

Most people in the old days lived in their clothing and used what ever equipment they had until it fell apart and was no longer reusable.
Beyond doubt, one of the finest ever western movies. Perfect script, scenery and acting. England, August, 2024.
You can not watch a better western. Bonus my favorite actor Robert Ryan. you will not find a tougher more stressful fulfilling movie. Everyone involved in this movie should be proud. One movie I felt sorry for the animals and actors. Thank you so much for sharing.
Never realized how beautiful Tina Louise really was until this colorization
Tina before Ginger.
Tina has been beautiful her whole life!

Ryan was such a dullard. He could not show much emotion.
Are you kidding? The guy has the voice, the look and the intelligence of a champ ! He was literally too good for Hollywood- bloody artist actor 👌
Ryan was great at playing the bad guy. Check out Clash By Night, with Robert Ryan, Paul Douglas & Barbara Stanwyck & Marilyn Monroe, a great movie.

@@studiobencivengamarcusbenc5272 Yeah, you tell him! There were plenty of films where he showed great emotion.
Burl Ives was a pretty darned good actor!
Yeah ,seen this one long time ago . Unusual kind of Western like The Hanging Tree ,makes you kinda glad you caught it.
Fantastic western.great cast .
Well worth watching.
Great speech on the stairs from Robert Ryan. very good western, thanks for uploading !!
Burl Ives best acting performance ever, and that is saying something..........
That would be 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' in my opinion.
@@twerps1 or ‚The big country‘ ….
The mad unblinking eyes of a gang of psychopaths. Brilliant acting.
I'm hoping to hear him again this Christmas season
Well that was a real movie very rare to see something like this these days.

"Pale Rider" was a rip-off of "Shane".
Eastwood always did his homework - I think so too - especially for the set and shot perspectives!

"Every fool has its reason", I'll remember this statement..
One of my Western faves but it loses some impact due to the colorization process. The original stark b/w version made one feel cold to the core...
Great movie.
An exellent movie .Enjyed from Australia❤️
Great movie!
Wow, wicked ending. Very dark indeed.
That Tina Louise looks one helluva lot better w/o all that Gilligan's makeup 💜💜💜.
Jack Lord, Tina & buddy Hackett gods little acre? Why put a piglet in a hole for Tina🤪
great movie!
Amazing photography.
Great endings.🤠👍
Pre-history "The Great Silence"
Movie 👍
Cant blame the ranchers , the sodbusters come in and fence there range that they used freely for years. Takes lot of grass for cattle .
Cattle need grain, too -- and you need your carrots and peas, bro. LOL!

A contrast of Sin and better in black and white!
Now that scene at 43:32 was hilarious. He didn't flinch.

🎉 VERY ENTERTAINING ❤ A MAN MAN OLD SCHOOL CLASSIC COWBOY MOVIE 🎬
Watch Burl Ives in "The Big Country" with Heston, Connors, Jean Simmons, and Diane Baker....Awesome movie...Oh yeah, Gregory Peck....
_LUV_ this movie!!!! The 11:32 mark says it all.... *Right ON* Robert Ryan = Explain The Bottom Line to the narrow minded newbies!!! 👍

I thought the mountain crossing would never end, feel sorry for the horses, and would fault the director for both problems.

Wrong movie

I love this movie because, it's a great story about a guy who thought he was bad... Until some real bad mofos showed up
good movie, bizarre but good...
Let’s go brandon low budget

They tortured a lot of horses
Bom dia amigo tudo bem
Ok, there at the end, how did that road get snow plowed!???
No that was far-fetched shooting a bullet into the wood and it starts at blaze
Rdr2 🤤
👍👍👍
rapiest posse ever

why didn't they just build a wall of snow around them to protect them from the cold wind

I thought the same thing
Because .... it's just a movie.
Because he had matches...
