Larry is 14, so Lorrie is 16 here. Unbelievable talent. Obvious why the Collins Kids are still revered as rockabilly icons and legends. The brother/sister rapport and interaction makes for a charming and really cute act too.
@@russellsimonds7148 They were with the wrong record company, Columbia, headed by Mitch Miller who did not know what to do with them. Had they been with Sun Records and Sam Phillips who worked with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, etc, believe me it would have been a different story.
It’s the Collins Kids, Lawrencine and Lawrence (known professionally as Lorrie and Larry)! They were regulars on this show, “Town Hall Party,” hosted by Tex Ritter. They also appeared on “Ranch Party,” a slightly different version of the show. This performance is a little unusual, because Larry isn’t playing his trademark double-necked guitar. When he was an adult, Larry said his constant jumping around on stage was not a gimmick, but something he did reflexively when he played guitar. He also noted that terms like “ADHD” did not exist when he was young. The Collins Kids are almost forgotten now, very unjustly, in my opinion. They played an important part in the development and popularization of early rock’n’roll and rockabilly. They were still alive until recently (Lorrie died in 2018, and Larry in early 2024), but did not perform much in their later years. Larry Collins also wrote some songs that were hits when other people recorded them, including “Delta Dawn” and “You’re the reason God made Oklahoma.”
Builders Emporium!? Where folks who like to do things. I miss Pop Larson. They should have gotten the Collins do the jingle. Might still be in business! Van Nuys!!!
Why weren't these two a national sensation?! You can hear all the influences in what they do and how they must have influenced rockers who followed. And the young guy played a double neck electric in other performances. Makes me think of Jimmy Page.🤔 And the kid can play!! She looks and sings like Connie Francis. Or did Connie look and sing like her?!! Hmmm.🤔 Whatever, they were great!!
Larry was mentored by Joe Maphis who also played a double neck Mosrite. Joe was on this show as well in the house band. Town Hall Party was the name and our family watched it on a LA local TV channel every weekend. We went to see it live one time.
There is a true story behind this song, it was when Laurie was going out with Ricky Nelson, he would go round and see Laurie, and Larry would be there, he made good pocket money back then, by all rights they should have done much better, if they had more exposure they would have been up there, i think they liked the safe atmosphere where they were, yet Wanda Jackson also appeared on the same show, and she managed to move on. Now they are both gone, Larry died 5 January 2024, now they are back together....
How is it that this act didn't become more famous?
Because persons change their musical taste and after abandon the idols...

Why were they not a national act?! They were phenominal! ❤❤❤

And Mitch Miller did not like any other genre except his genre ... He was stubborn that way anything other than milk toast or mainstream was scary

You'd swear that Lorrie was 10 years older than Larry, ...however, they were really only two years age difference.
You’re right. Lorrie must have gotten a growth spurt earlier than Larry did.
Love this.
Today Larry would be the poster kid for ritalin. Mick Jagger might have copied some of his moves.
So
Much
Love😂❤
