  • GAME CHANGER! BlueARP DM Mk.1 - Behringer TD-3 - JP-8080 - Access Virus TI2 - Waldorf Kyra
    Well, this is a treat! I've been very honored to assist with the beta testing of a new hardware arpeggiator/sequencer called BlueARP DM created by Oleg Mikheev (AKA Greywolf).
    The unit featured in this video is a preproduction unit. With it I'm controlling in real-time a Behringer TD-3 (TB-303 clone) Roland JP-8080, Waldorf Kyra and an Access Virus TI2.
    I'm using a combo of samples and Roland Cloud TR-909 and TR-808 VST plugins in Ableton for percussion, and am triggering scenes in real-time along with playing all 4 synths with up to 5 independent arpeggiators at the same time with BlueARP DM. (BlueARP DM is able to control up to 8 separate timbers at once). I'm triggering these by pressing notes on my main controller keyboard. Some automation is also handled by clips in Ableton so that I have enough hands to do other things.
    In my opinion, BlueARP DM is truly a huge step up for live performances and multiple synthesizers.

      Awesome! Yeah, BlueARP DM is unique as far as I know. But, originally it was released as a VST. You can actually get that now, and its free. Cool thing is the hardware version is basically 8 instances of the VST! So learning the plugin and you'll know your war around the hardware plus patten files are interchangeable.

      @graywolf2004ru 3 роки тому

      @@MarshalArnold I know about NDLR. As I understood it, it has a bit different philosophy than BlueARP DM (more a 'happy accident' machine, better suited for ambient and downtempo, while bluearp is more a 'deliberate pattern programming' machine). Maybe Marshal will get NDLR and make a comparison some day.

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому

      @@graywolf2004ru totally agree, NLDR is quite different, BlueARP I feel provides much better direct control. I looked into NLDR over the last few days, it's not really something I'd go for normally. It really does seem to be a happy accident type of machine while BlueARP is more purpose built and an awesome live performance tool. Not that NLDR is a bad device, just more that BlueARP appeals much more to me and what I want to be able to do.

    I'm definitely hearing the sizzle on those pads! (JP8080?)

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому +1

      Totally, firmware is still in development, but once it's ready I'll do a deeper dive into the UI. But I'll do a breakdown for this tune and explain whats going on in the next video. Litteraly huge game changer for my live aspirations!
      JP-8080 is def the supersaw pad throughout, sizzle fizzle! The stabby 1/4 note supersaw sound halfway through is the Virus, Kyra is on Bass, TD-3 well that's doing the standard 303 style thing of course. Sweeps and synth effects are the other timbers in the Virus. Percussion is Kick 2 Roland Cloud TR-909/808 and some other one-shot samples I own.

  • @PureAmbientDrone
    @PureAmbientDrone 3 роки тому +1

    Yes I see your point on the Kyra Bass! I had one for a short time but didn't keep it. Thought it was a bit too expensive compared to some other choices.

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, but no other synth sounds sooo clean. It literally is the best "sounding" synth I own. Sure, other FPGA based synths out there, but none that are 8 part multitimbrality and 128 voices. Really, it's like 8 Novation Peak synths, minus the analog filter...but more voices. 1 USB cable and you get all that right into the DAW with lossless quality. It has amazing potential, but it does require some digging in a bit of a frustrating UI, but still better than any interface Yamaha has ever made lol. I also really like that the whole thing was deved by 1 guy in his spare time. Pretty cool if you ask me, and Kyra sounds awesome 😎

    • @PureAmbientDrone
      @PureAmbientDrone 3 роки тому +1

      @@MarshalArnold Yes I agree 100% its got a very unique sound to it too. Its on my radar to get once again. I really liked some of the sounds I got from it.
      I couldn't find anything to sit in the mix of my track SOLAR FLEX ua-cam.com/video/Zm7qpkVqs_Q/v-deo.html
      So I tried the Kyra and it fit perfect at the very end of the track. I bet you can pick it out as you seem to really know this synth!

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому +1

      @@PureAmbientDrone ah, very nice tune! Many thanks for sharing! Is it the riser at the end that's from Kyra? Am not sure, some of the pad/string type sounds have some Kyra feel as well, but obviously not. See you got a Wave 2! I'm def jealous lol I have the OG Wave, but want a Wave 2 also, big updates to that synth with the 2, congrats!

    • @PureAmbientDrone
      @PureAmbientDrone 3 роки тому +1

      @@MarshalArnold The RISER is REV 2! Kyra is the the kinda pulse wave at the very end. I can't really describe it ha ha. Yeah the WAVE 2 is super nice! My eyes are on the Poly Brute now. That's why I was thinking for the Kyra Price we are getting close to real analog goodies. Not that I am a purest or anything but you know. LOL

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому +1

      Lol, groovy I'll give it another listen and see if I can make it out. I think the PolyBrute is cool, but 6 voices? IDK, and I really wish that touche type controller was not where the pitch/mod wheels should go lol. But sounds awesome and I'm sure it's built like a tank like my MatrixBrute is! I had my eyes on a Moog Voyager after snagging the Korg ARP 2600 FS, but then Dave had to go and reissue the Prophet 5/10 lol between those 2 synths it'll be a few months before I can pick up that Voyager... But watch, Sequential will drop an OBx reissue next and I'll be out another 4k lol good problem to have though!

  • @janne-seta
    @janne-seta 3 роки тому +1

    Sandstorm rimshots! Cool track! I never had the 8080. Compared to JP-8000, you get 10 voices, unison & vocoder? And the LFO2 is not tied to the mod / pitch bend stick?

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому

      Many thanks Janne! Yeah more voices and a vocoder on the 8080 vs the 8000. Not sure about LFO2, but since there's no pitch/mod stick on the 8080 that would make sense. This was the 1st time I've used it in a full tune since purchased it in 2019. I like it a lot, and it works extremely well with the JP-80X0 editor from Mystery Island!

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому

      Lol also, I didn't even realize it but yeah the 808 wood block sound is essentially the same from Sandstorm! Ha, so crazy, I was like yeah that works 🤣

    • @janne-seta
      @janne-seta 3 роки тому

      Of course, it's the wood block, not rimshot. Once again, a very nice track and great to see also such complex setups done live! The BlueARP looks well-suited for it. You need to work on your live set, not many people do this kind of stuff "really" live and not just as a DJ / laptop gig (Kebu has some trance tunes in his repertoire) :)

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому

      Thats my plan! This BlueARP in hardware form fills that roll I needed to fully do a live set the way I'd want to. Kebu has been a big inspiration, along with Giuseppe Ottaviani. He's done some live sets with a rig that would fit in a suitcase lol.

    Loved it! Great track - cool sounds! Just a quick question - When you changed chords the TD3 changed it's pitch too. Was this programmed on the TD3 or will it transpose patterns from a MIDI note?

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому

      Thanks Andrew! Good question, in this video the TD-3 is being sequenced by BlueARP. The TD-3's sequencer is not running at all. I'm not sure if the TD-3 will respond to real-time transpose through an external controller. I actually recently received the TD-3 and this was the 1st thing I've done with it. I will test this out, but given BlueARP is much easier to program and easy to chain patterns I would prefer to use it vs the TD-3's sequencer or really any synth's built in sequencer.

  • @Struct2009
    @Struct2009 3 роки тому +1

    Can the k1 to k5 notes be assigned to different channels? K1 to ch #1, k2 to ch#2 ... k5 to channel #5. Then you could send them to different voices on a multitimbral synth.

    • @MarshalArnold
      @MarshalArnold  3 роки тому

      This currently is not possible, but the firmware is still a work in progress and I've had discussions with the developer about being able to assign different MIDI channels per step. Currently you can assign a MIDI channel per instance of BlueARP (up to 8 instances) only, but I hope this will be expanded to include per step assignment capabilities.

    • @graywolf2004ru

      @@MarshalArnold Right, I have this in my to-do list. The idea is to be able to switch GATE STEP lane to CHANNEL mode, so it will send different steps to different channels. This will sacrifice GATE STEP, but it as not a big miss imho (I can't add a new lane gue to GUI and memory restrictions).
