I have a lot of respect for Winnipeg number 27 keeping the group from stepping on Evans when he was on the ice I still remember that as a really good gesture

I'm a Devils fan and I can't be mad at Hathaway for that hit. That was 100% the fault of the linesmen. If they had blown the whistle when they were supposed to, that hit would not have happened.

That first hit on Jared McCann is such a scummy move by Cale Makar. The guy did nothing wrong. He took an opportunity to have a breakaway shorthanded, took the shot, and skated off to the corner. He didn't slide to a stop and "snow" the goalie, he didn't do anything extra, and Makar just comes in and lays him out.
for sure, as a brand new spectator to hockey at the time things like that made it easy to pick out the biggest bonehead/immature losers to root against
Based on Makar body language, I think he does not see the puck so in that speed he assumes McCann has it so he checks him. You can see he knows he did the wrong move the second he hit him.

You should get your ears checked the whistle was way late and Cale had no idea where the puck was. He made a check on a guy who had gone limp and then the whistle happened. Don't stop until the whistle (or even better don't be seconds late with the whistle)
If only NHL would actually discipline guys. Getting a game here or there for a 82 game season is just laughable
I'm a Rangers fan, the Panarin hit is whatever, keep your head up. Makar and Schiefele are so stupid, each deserved way longer than they got. Wilson should've been tossed

Evans was the one lacking brain cells to come out from behind the net with his head down.. He's gotta know a bunch of guys are coming.. and just because your wrapping the puck and the net is empty that doesn't make you ineligible from being hit, it was initiated before the puck went in the goal

@@brodysimpson466 For all Scheiflele knows that wrap could miss the net and he just finishes his check, or if Evans had his head up like he should've, he wouldn't of tried the wrap around.. He would've seen the hit coming.. Attacking players are still responsible for protecting themselves to some extent, it will always be that way.. It isnt always up to someone else..

Hathaway's was borderline, definitely not as bad as these other ones. He got pushed as well, and whistle was not blown. The refs were more to blame

You could say he could have gone in easier for the sake of sportsmanship but he also got pushed by Siegenthaler, so there was literally nothing he could have done to avoid that hit lol.

@@plumpydumpy-el5gl play to the whistle, every player is taught that. So no whistle, play still goes on. Siegenthaler gives him a little shove and his momentum takes him into Hughes all before the ref blows for a late icing. They had plenty of time to call it earlier

A late hit isn't always worse than a charge or elbow. He skated full force into him from the blue line and got the elbow in there too. That was tough to watch.

That first hit reminds me of the old Dale Hunter cheap hit after a goal on Pierre Turgeon - just because he goes so far out of his way to make that hit.
Hunter for 20 games for that one - although the outcome for Tuegeon was definitely worse.

The thing that irks me the most as a hockey fan for the first hit is how it progressed. After McCann takes the shot a full two seconds go by before he hits the wall. Makar had no reason to hit him at all, but he PURSUED McCann into the corner to give him that cheap shot. Textbook looked the same type of play that happened in the Dale Talon incident. Absolutely disgraceful.
Then later in the series, the refs give Jordan Ebrle a 2:00 penalty for boarding. It was excessive contact, bad position, and within a congested area with the puck involved. I wanted Seattle to win the series but with how the McCann thing happened earlier the controversy was unnecessary from strictly the games point of view.
Oh, great, another Cale v Eberle debate. Thanks jens for bringing this up again. Why not blame the linesman who had his whistle in his mouth on time but didnt blow it until after the hit. As far as Cale knew it was still live play and you play to the whistle. Boo Jens, you should know better.

I don’t understand the hockey officials just standing in a scrum and blowing the whistle. Like help out your linesmen to break this shit up. That what I love about lacrosse, we have 3 officials and they all have the ability to make penalty call or any other call. They also all get into scrums if needed. Makes way more sense than standing in the middle going tweet tweet, waiting for the linesmen to come in and break it up.
Honestly i didnt see anything on sheifles hit. Maybe charging, but it wasnt late, he was holding the puck up to just when he made contact, they said he couldn't do that because it was already in, but by the point of no return, it hadnt gone in yet

Late hits alright... let's rewind. After the whistle blows the opponent takes a hit in the boards from the another player. This penalty should be in the book. Unsportsmanlike. Could the refs should show some reason and take picture towards on that late play.

Same thing with mark schieffle hit. WTF is he supposed to do? It wasn't late there was no elbow no nothing. He's trying to stop him from scoring in a playoff game. Dude that got hit needs to have his head up. Period its freaking hockey it's fast and physical if mark stops he's not hustling. Now could he have tried to stick check him yes but if you've ever played competitive hockey, i have from middle school through college and stick checking someone esp big guys doesn't work. Theyre too strong. You do what you're taught from 5 years old. Play the body and play hard til you hear the whistle. I lived for it and playing the body was my absolute favorite part. I would have trucked him too. Scoring like that in a playoff game you're going to have to pay a price. There was nothing dirty about that hit. Unfortunate there was an injury but it wasn't late or even a charge. Today's game is soft. Scott Stevens basically ended Eric lindros and Paul kariya careers with dirty and late hits. Try watching those and then these hits today and try saying they're same. Then you'll see what a real dirty hit looks like..
Well, it was a clear and brutal charge... if he was trying to prevent the goal, he might have dived, gone for stick or basically anything else.
Either McCann is soft as hell or makar is that strong.
Colorado has an extensive history of trying to injure players in playoff games. In reality, the league really needs to look at them, and hard.

Most disappointed I have ever been at Makar. Completely unnecessary and very dangerous. He is isn't the type of guy to do that in my opinion, which made it a lot worse.
