They draw attention to her tying it at the start of the trailer because it's actually a little different than usual here. In every other design of Weiss we've seen, her ponytail is always off to the side, but here it's perfectly centered. A small detail, but every detail like this is intentional in animation when you have to model the characters, and again the short even calls attention to it at the start. It's a small thing that is likely meant to represent how she hasn't become as rebellious yet and is still conforming to Atlas and her father's ideals.

Weiss and Yang's shorts are both flashbacks as you could tell---Weiss dozed off on the transport ship and had a dream replaying that memory. You'll notice Weiss doesn't have her scar yet and she's wearing her ponytail straight behind her head. According to the manga she wears it off-center in present day to annoy her father. Yang was just remembering while riding her motorbike to (?). CRWBY wanted an excuse to redo the volume 1-3 character models in the new animation engine, but also show the contrast between Yang's relationship with her little (half-)sister Ruby and Winter's relationship with her younger sister. "I won't always be around to protect you, Weiss" vs. "I've always got your back, Sis."
I love these shorts because they show just how much they've grown, how far they've come since their early beginnings. Also, we get to see their original designs in Maya, which is an unexpected treat to see! Another tidbit worth noting is that Yang's pose she makes in the beginning of her short is the pose she made in her original concept art, also, the song that plays at the end of Blake's short is a song on the OST, but not the Opening, it's moreso a song about Illia, who, as you might have noticed, had a lot of focus in said short. Weiss's scar is absent, which tells us that the events of the short predate the fight with the knight in the White Trailer. Another thing to think about is, Yang says she's always got Ruby's back, but the one time she didn't, all of this happened and they became separated.
I love how they used the CS's as opportunity to bring the v1 outfits into the Maya engine Also going to point out how Ilia didn't attack Blake, instead going for the distraction cause its a recurring thing from v4 to here.
I love the parallel of Winter&Weiss and Yang&Ruby sisters dynamic. Winter is all "You have to learn to protect yourself", but Yang is like "I'll protect you no matter what" and they're both valid. :')

The individual Blake and Yang foolishly pursue in public is a random white fang member listed on Illya's scroll. A lot of the budget for volume 5 actually went into these shorts. It's also believed much of Volume 5 suffered both in funding and in staff due to Gray Haddock pulling resources to work on his pet project Gen-Lock. Just something to keep in mind going in as Volume 5 can often get a bit of flack. Every song in the trailers are new for the soundtrack.

The character shorts put a lot of insight into several character relationships we either know or have gotten glimpses of. Weiss and Winter, Ruby and Yang. But those two are more flashbacks, while Blake’s is kind of a hybrid. Of the three character shorts, this one provides the most information to retain going forward in the story, for obvious reasons. Also, since you asked, the character they were chasing in present day was a person of interest on the scroll they confiscated from Ilia at the end of Volume 4. But to be honest, the whole chase scene is just background dressing for the story Ilia is telling Blake. Also, all of the characters are in the new engine but in their original Beacon outfits. This is what they might have looked in V1-V3 like if they had the budget to use it that early. But RT has already said, they’ll never go back and convert those graphics up out of respect for Monty and the hard work he put into those. Which is fine. You still can’t help but wonder what he would’ve done next if he had access then to the animation tools they have now.
Damn i love Volume 5. The song that played in Yangs trailer is called Ignite and is in the top 3 of my favourite Rwby songs (I just love a good powerwoman song). I would also recommend the instrumental versions this season when it comes to this season (its old songs redone instrumental in a new style) but thats up to you. Damn i love Volume 5. The song that played in Yangs trailer is called Ignite and is in the top 3 of my favourite Rwby songs (I just love a good powerwoman song). I would also recommend the instrumental versions this season when it comes to this season (its old songs redone instrumental in a new style) but thats up to you. I absolutely cant wait for next friday i am so hyped through these trailers even though i already know what will happen. I hope you have a wonderfull day and may the holy Zwei bless your weekend.

Anyway, every time I watch with you reactors, I find myself learning something new about the series. You in particular, are very perceptive, so it furthers that particular aspect of my viewership.
