- Sneaker collectors run into a lot of problem while you’re acquiring their sneakers. Some obvious issues are storage, the cost of shoes, reselling and a lot more. But there’s one problem people never talk about when it comes to their sneaker collection…. And that’s “what size shoe should I buy?” Now that might sound like an easy buying decision. Especially when you’re copping a hyped sneaker that’s limited edition. BUT if you plan on having a sneaker collection for a long time, then making sure your shoe size has a little extra room in it is one of the best sneaker fashion tips I can give you! I made that decision in 2020, got rid of my size 11 and smaller and only brought and kept size 12. Great topic homie 🙏🏾
What you're saying is true. I always go for my size or half size up. I never go down because the material always contracts(shrinks) once the shoe cools down from wear. If i go down half-size(which is rare), i wear those shoes for about 30days straight so i can get them to the comfort i want. Last pair of shoes i did that with was Jordan 4 WC. Bought them at a 10.5, when i was 11. Wore them everyday for a month and stopped wearing them. Now, they fit like a glove and i could wear them for hours.
Looking to replace them in my true size 11 or get 11.5.
You are absolutely right.I was size 10 twenty years ago,now I’m 11. Feet are getting bigger as you get older, science says.
I definitely feel this way right now and I had to part ways with soo many pairs
Yo Eddie can you do a video of when the collection is getting out of hand or how you store so many pairs?🙏
I addressed the same in a regrets video last year because going down a half size or sometimes true to size is a bad decision for your feet. Even when a lot of people go down if a pair runs big I'd rather have it run slightly big because discomfort on the sides of your feet is terrible. I've given pairs away and sold some or trying to for that very reason. The discomfort is NOT worth it. Great insight.
Exactly. I have sold all of my jordan 4s. I just can’t do them anymore. Done with them.
I needed to see this. I went a half size up on my first Jordans and I paid resell and they fit loose but I guess it could be worse and fit too small and give me pain.
People need to realise the importance of their foot health and how it may impact them later in life.
I had a handful of pairs I had to dump because they’re too small and over the years my foot seems to have slightly gotten bigger.
We’re fighting two battles: These brands are inconsistent with their sizing and time having its effect on the body.
It’s funny because I was just having a discussion about this the other day. Part of the problem though, is that Nike has started making shoes smaller than before. A 12 fits like an 11.5 now. Idk if it’s the retro sizing or what but it’s forced me to go up a size as well in every Nike sneaker style.
You are spot on and it took a long time for this comment to pop up. They absolutely downsized their sizing
Man it’s crazy because I thought I was the only person experiencing this. I really thought I was going crazy. I was 8.5 in my young 20s then I went up to a size 9 in my late 20s. I’m in my early 30s now and I swear I’m approaching 9.5. Like everyone else in the comments I had to get rid of 60 plus sneakers a couple years ago because I just couldn’t bare the pain of squeezing into smaller sneakers.
I’ve been doing the same thing the last 5 years going half size bigger especially air maxes.
BROO. This is me right now. I’m 23 and worked at Amazon 2 years. 12hr shifts and now my sz10 sneakers fit tight. I’ve been buying my collection in a sz10.5 now slowly.
This is all facts and i never listened to my dad lol i have plenty heaters that i love and can fit but i have to literally plan “ok how long will i be out” 😂
Going bigger is always the safer option!
Learned this the hard way with a few Jordan 4s I hit for retail over the years. A size 11.5 just fits me way better than a size 11.
It’s true! When I was in my 20’s i was a 10.5 - 11. Now I’m a 12 comfortably. 11.5 in most new balances. It most shoes i need a 12 for comfort. Jordan 5’s i can wear in a 11.5. Only thing annoying is that my 12 is the money size if i miss retail. Listen to this video. The little roominess will help you from podiatrist visits…
Air Max and NBs are the way forward. I pretty much never wear Jordans anymore because they're just not that comfortable and size US 13.5 does not exist. 3s probably being an exception because they are roomy. Air Max 90s run a little big I find anyway so true to size is fine and with NB, even though made in America/UK tend to run big I still go with US 13 because that is a true half size up, they're really a UK 12.5. All Adidas have to be UK 12.5, the thought of wearing a UK 12 Adidas is just pure pain, even with knit models like ultra boost. I've never sized down, only up. I'd rather be swimming in a shoe than cutting off the circulation to my toes.
I've reached the age now that my feet need firmer, stable cushioning instead of the most bouncy, responsive midsoles.
I got some Jordan 1 Zoom Comforts. They should be called the discomforts. I put them on the stretcher for 4 days. Tiny improvement. Even a size up, feel like I gotta go sockless. That’s what I do with 7’s. No socks.
Put another thin insole from another shoe, preferably from smaller sz shoe... BETTER then double socks, shields or anything else.
yes friend ! when i was a bit younger i was wearing european 44.5-45, but now even some 46-46.5 are small for me . Also brands usually are not consistent with sizes and any shoe fits unique way.
I’m 40 and my feet haven’t changed much (thank God). Also, I’m an 11 so if you wanna ship some to me I’ll be happy. 😅
Dude I love this topic. I was always a size 8.5 that’s what fit me comfortably. At 32 years old my shoes stopped fitting me and I am now a size 9.5 and sometimes 10. Glad I’m not the only one haha
Man I can 💯 relate to this. I'm 34 now and when I first started I was 10.5/11 then I was TTS 11 and now I find myself in 11.5 however I will say one non aging factor is shoes are not cut and made like they were back in the day. Like I'll wear my old pair of white cement 4s in a 11 comfy and spacious. Wear a modern AJ4 and it's like where did all the space go...
I see I'm not the only one with this problem. So I'm not crazy. I went from over 30 pairs of kicks to now only about 10. I think I'll slowly get away from collecting sneakers cause it's frustrating to keep scoopin kicks and then have to sell them or give them away because of feet changes.
Comfort is king. Style still has to be right. But if ur torturing ur feet ur whole body will hurt. Feet first. Then ankles and legs. Then back.
ohhhh boy, after this video, i sold 4 pairs and returned two there i still had time 😂😂😂
Hell ya dude. Foot health is really important and a lot of these narrow toe boxes rlly hurt the natural shape and structure of ur foot, and how it should be with plenty of wiggle room to spread ur toes! I’m not buying orthopedics either but yellow sneakerheads plz do ur research on this topic ur feet will change shape to fit ur narrow shoes and that’s not really in a good way
i just stopped cause i don't want to be excited cause i won the right to over pay for a shoe that's released 100 times already. feels good to not be a slave to the companies.
I wear a size 12 but I wish I could buy a 12.5. But most of the times half sizes aren’t available
Note to all young heads there sizing down to the smallest size they can fit into- you will all get hammer toe eventually 😂😂
Probably one of the main reasons why i dont pay resell prices. Your size changes, collection gets larger and you cant really wear everything as frequently, they release TOO MANY sneakers on a weekly basis why pay 2x,3x,4x when eventually theyll drop something close to it and youll probably wear your other shoes before.
That’s me. 11.5 on some silhouettes now. Just happened one day.
Eddie with the grown up facts....also...them orthopedic shoes thooo 👀
Problem is when you are a 12…12.5 is mission impossible and going to 13 is sloppy. Solid advice though, I did this with a few NB styles that everyone said you could 1/2 down. They were uncomfortable on the sides of my feet and never rocked them. My advice for anyone new into sneakers is as soon as your sneakers arrive put them on your feet and walk around the block.
Been copping for 20 plus years out of my own pocket.... Lost weight and still i get my size 12. Feels even better now.😅
Thank you for addressing these issues as well. for me it's like i start to wear all my shoes because they age. and even if i wear a different pair of shoes every time, each shoe can be worn a maximum of 1-2 times a year
I used to have that issue as well, but I started to recycle my collection and doing a closet clean-out every 4 months. That way, as my personal style and taste changes, I figure out what I don't really see myself wearing anymore, sell those, and use those funds to either buy new clothes or save money instead of splurging on stuff out of my own pocket!
I was a 10.5 from the age of 14. I’m 33 now and I’m a size 11 now
I too am I true size 11.5 but in dunk lows Ive learned from exp to get a size 11.. Im sure I'm not the only one who dislikes the little flip flop gap on the back of my ankle.
I wouldn't say this video is relevant for everyone. I'm 10 in every shoe I've ever owned, 9.5 is too small and 10.5 is horribly loose. I'm 32 years old and have been the same since I was 16. Not everyone changes.
💯
Shout to the Spitta background music
I agree wholeheartedly. Other tips I have:
Always, try before you buy if you can
Always leave a thumbs width in the toe box
If you already have tight sneakers, loosen the laces all the way down and remove the insoles
For performance sneakers like basketball or running, keep some room for when feet swell up, but not too much room so you don't get blisters
I'll never understand how some people like a snug fit lol i need my toes to be able to move all around! If you are inbetween two sizes, always go with the bigger size. & If you are able to and have enough money, buy both sizes to be safe then return/resell the one that doesnt fit perfectly. I just had to do that with the Orlando Penny 1s. Sometimes an 8.5 fits me perfect, sometimes a 9. All depends on the shoe of course
Totally agree. Went from size 9.5 to 10 because my toes kept getting squished. Because they were getting smashed my toenails would chafe against my skin. Ouch!
This topic is so important. The most inspiring is seeing you got the white cement three in a size 12 I can relate to this so much because I will not put that on my foot because they already ran big so but then I tried it on and you’re right this is like a secret. And then I told somebody I sized up a whole size in that white thunder that I touched base with you on in the comments and they were like oh my God like it was the end of the world I thought it’s gonna be OK I can wear them, comfortably.
Size swaps are a myth unless timing is perfect. How many times I told myself I’m gonna get a sideswipe and I still have the pair in the size that I got been sitting around..
I hear that bro. Almost all J's before 7s I have to go up a .5 size. The people at these shoe stores trip out when I want to try them on, just happens I wear my shoes. 👍
This is crazy accurate 😂 I have issues getting size 10 cuz 9.5 is my TTS but I’m short and I don’t want my foot to look huge. I will highly consider this. My most expensive sneaker is a 10.5 because I won them in a giveaway and that’s all they had and they work just fine so I know a 10 would probably be perfect
I sleep with my air max 90 s lol
100% true. Am a woman and after pregnancy my shoesize changed from womens 6 to 7 . Growing older got another 0,5 extra. And then joint problems. Got knee injury and after that half of the fancy sneakers give so much problem I ly awake at night from pain in my knee. Fortunally AJ 1's are my orthopedic miracles, so got them in tons of colours, up to a level that even my son is joking about it. He everytime wanders if I know there are also other shoes, but if I try I always regret it. The ultra flat and flexible soles are just what my knee needs.
But really, it is something to be aware of so really well done you make people thinking about this.
My sizing is weird af sometimes
In some “designer-ish” sneakers I have a size 8
Jordans 8.5
Air Maxes 9.5
Adidas 9
But I started to buy 9s only in designer or designer-ish (example : Boss, Diesel, Armani, Ralph Lauren) I buy 8.5s cus their shit runs big
All facts. Hate snug fit, when I hear reviewers say I like that 1 to 1 fit I know they don’t have a wide foot like me. Sorry to say but I’m not a masochist so I’m going nearly .5 up on everything 😂. In agreement with everything you said.
Man speaking facts. This is exactly my situation. I sized up to 12 and man AJ1 are getting way comfortable. The only advantage of my size 11 AJ1 is that they don't get creases easy. Damn some of them are more than a year old and they look fresh out the box. However, it's not worth the pain. Been wearing 11 my whole life but as I was getting close to my 30s, yeah they started to feel really uncomfortable. I even have to wear extremely thin socks to fit them. So, yeah your advice is legit. Size up guys at least by a half if not a full size up. Thanks for the video.
What up Ed, I used to be all about Nikes and Jay's. However I'm 46 now and am all about comfort. So now NBs, Asics and On Running
I've had my feet measured and apparently I'm a 9.5. But, I'm comfortable in a 10.5-11. Your toes will appreciate a bigger size everytime
Great topic
....what I did was quit sneakers for 2 years and wipe out my entire old inventory...and started over....1 full size up to an 11......5 years ago I would buy 10s
Lmao!! Not “sexy” 😂
I’m an 11.5-12 so I definitely understand your pain. I find jordan 1 highs are the most roomy, If you need shoes lmk. Got everything even the NB ALD 550s
If your a half size go up
Crazy I’m a true 11.5 and I’ve recently this past year been buying size 12 in every shoe lol
Im 5"8 and my true to size is 9.5 but I have no trouble wearing size 10 except jordan 1 since they fit a little bit roomier to me with narrow shape. Having half a size bigger is a better choice since 0.5 size difference is not actually noticeable on feet.
Great advice thanks
Not gonna lie, I’m a TTS 10.5 but always bought 12 cause I have wide feet but now I’m older I buy just 11 cause them just right now
I am experiencing this right now. UK 10.5 since I was 13 years old. I'm not an 11 not matter what. It's hard to tell yourself your size isn't your size after 20 years.
U right. I’m 36, and after growing up wearing only Jordan’s , Nike & Timbs my whole life I ran across same problem. Went from size 11 to 12 bought my first pairs of adidas & Yeezys and those helped. Ended up getting bunion surgery a month ago lol which is really what I needed . I’m back to size 11-11.5 But even after, Nikes & jays have a tight toe box. I’m like you , I’ll wear them but not all day anymore. I think wearing nikes is what messed up my feet.
Facts , esp w a lot of Nike models I went up a half size recently. Changed the game. I stay true to size for NB MiUSA models for the roomy comfort , we ain’t training in the shoes ppl . Nice video bro
I would say make sure you break them in I was originally a size 12 but had to move up to 12.5 and 13s but because my size 12s are broken in I can go back and where them with no problem. If I buy a size 12 now which I've had to resort to doing on a few pairs, I can't wear them longer than hour.
I’ve always went up before going down. I’m also 11-11.5 but I have plenty of 12s. Chucks I wear 10.5 tho
great vid brother. i go up half size too . dont like wearing very tight sneakers ill do too but not for long either ✊️🙏
You are telling the truth bro because when i first started buying shoes I got size 10 because it's my true size but as I got older my feet be hurting especially my right foot in a size 10 so I started going up half a size in shoes which are now 10.5 and my feet feel so much better going half a size up!
My true size is 11.5 and I'm still funny bout getting size 12... I'm going on 44 next month and my feet hasn't changed yet...
Why not just sell the ones that don’t fit?
Then buy pairs you had but in your size or go after more expensive pairs or even double/triple Up on the ones you Love…
That’s the move i would make. No use in keeping pairs around if you can’t just bust em out to rock every now and then
I feel the same way Eddie I love my kicks but I find myself opting for comfort over anything and of course style as well. I wear my Salehe crocs most days because my feet mold so well to them they’re light and airy.
Nice video
Been going half sizes up on my sneakers all my life, I can’t tolerate I’ll fitting sneakers: I still can wear those same sneakers to this day. I tell my baby brother all the time to size up. Your feet 🦶🏾 will thank you😂
💯 on this I use a 12 also but I am a true 11 1/2 . I always thought too big was a silly look on me but honestly it’s the opposite now I truly feel comfortable and looking good in the comfortable size.
Hey.... same here. I always had 12. Nowadays 12,5 to 13.
So if you need some size 12s... I'm your man ;)
Got into sneakers only 5 years ago, my true size has been 11.5 but I’d cop a 12 if a 11.5 was snug. I’ve gotten frustrated at time cause stores only seem to have either a size 11 or 12. Even measured my feet again just make sure I was a true 11.5 😂
I had 42 before but grew to 42.5
With my narrow feet im kinda lucky on the width side I guess
Lol! Eddie i have sold or gave all my sneakers that to tight for my feet even some of the grails.... Only left some leather rebook G unit just for trophy..... 😂😂😂
So idk if you can elaborate a little, I'm a true size 9 and I buy almost every sneaker in a size 9 BUT I do go up a half size on certain models that I know fit a little too snug and I never half size down right. So my question is are you saying that eventually with age I won't find my true size comfy and that I should just half size up on some or are you just saying to stick to your true size but if for any reason you cannot acquire your true size that it doesn't hurt to half size up?
I'm 11.5 dead on aswell never buy J's smaller except for the odd pair of 13s or maybe 6s (if it's not 11.5 I don't buy and my rite foot is half a half size smaller then left ) due to manufacturing and material on the model other then that I'd say most Jays actually offer good amount of toe box comfort as long as I get a fingernail to half of fingernail width from where by bigtoe is and tad bit of heel room I'm good don't care about creasing that's what shoe trees and cloth and and iron are for and proper storage lot of people squeeze there feet in shoes they have no biz wearing but as a person with ocd I spot it out like a stain on white tee great subject matter on this video nothing but facts
Nice info I used to do same thing squeezing on me feet on 9.5 and now I don't care I go go true to size r half size up specially on basketball shoes like Kobes Lebron KD
I've been in the sneaker game since 2006.
And I've learned a lot. I get all my sneakers a half size up so thst I can comfortably wear them with sneaker shields. With the shields in I can wear them for the entire day pretty much with no discomfort at all
Your advice is very much appreciated Bruh. Keep it up! 👍🏻
started my collection in 2015 with a size 8.5 and i kept having to go up a size, up a size, up a size and now I'm at a size 10
Woa this is so true 👍🏽
This is so true. I’m rocking 10.5/11 back then I was rocking 10. But also let’s work some deals on those size 11’s? 😅
See I’m the exact opposite! As I’ve gotten older, I feel like my feet have gotta smaller and now most of the shoes in my collection are too big. The best advice I can give to a young sneaker enthusiast is to learn your size and try on everything! And don’t just try on a shoe for 2 seconds and say “these are cool”. Really try them on in store or ask a buddy to try on theirs. Took me too long to learn my real size lol
To be honest. I'm wide foot gang... My feet have only gotten more uncomfortable in side D width. Can't do it anymore.
My advice. Measure your feet find your true size. The size you measure at and go half size up if they are your casual shoe or running shoe. But if you you’re buying a basketball shoe to actually play in, or cleats get the size you measure at because you don’t want your feet to move around. They will loosen up as you play.
Bro i was a size 11- 11.5 now i have to buy size 12 - 12.5. Thank you for adressing this topic getting old is not fun
I had to sell ALL of Kobe’s I collected over the years because they hurt my feet as they grew a half size bigger when I was 25 😭😭😭
Ive been a size 11.5 to a 12 since 13 but then around 25 i went to a size 12.5 to 13. I lost over 52 pounds biking and working out and now im back to an 11.5. Youd be suprised how much water weight we start to hold as we age. Thankful i can wear all my old kicks again.
Same goes for me when buying Jordan 5 , 6, 12 in my normal size. Ain’t tryna wear boots I have to go a size down now
I've been in the process of selling all my 3s and 4s for that very reason. It got to the point where I started getting corns on the sides of my feet, which are extremely painful. Not worth the pain.
My first Nike ID (Air Max 1) is a little snug. It being my creation I'm gonna ride with it.
So what I’m hearing is that you won’t wear the size 11s? I’m a math teacher that loves his sneakers. True size 11. I can help you out 😂
I’m about to turn 40 & I’m only wearing yeezys especially the slides my goodness those are on another level & I wear Nbs also
My foot is weird too. I was an 11.5-12 for the longest but now in I’m a True 12.5 but I get 13s as well. I’m starting to feel discomfort in some 12s. I just sell them and buy a bigger size if I really love the shoe.
I’m a true size 12, I had to get rid off all my 11.5’s. My toes couldn’t take it anymore
The older I’ve gotten I. Are about comfort much more. So yes go up half a size!
He is right
Factssss, I had to go up a half size after having my son…I can wear my previous size, but I can’t wear them for too long.
