I got completely out of the sneaker game when I saw what happened with Kobe shoes. The line was at a place where they were widely available to all the real fans, then he tragically passed away and quickly people capitalized on his death. This was sickening to me. Then Nike comes out and says future releases will go to people with Kobe purchase history. I estimated I have around $7,000 of Kobe rated product purchases, dating back as far as 2005, yet I struck out on every release since his death. So I’m done. I will no longer support this company that doesn’t reward me for my commitment to their product and athlete.

The problem is there’s collectors and there’s resellers. The language calls it The Market when it used to be a Culture (or subculture rather - derived from hip hop and skateboarding). I’m all for the crash. It just means the releases that real “Sneakerheads”
Want to obtain are going to be easier. I love the days when I would actually be upset about taking an L at a lineup, rather than be frustrated that I might have to pick up my shoes for 2 to 3 times retail. When NikeTalk was not a market place, but rather a place to share and help others get their grails without the intent of profiting, just to be a good person and help a brother out

I would condemn scammers trying to sell reps as retails with inflated prices... but also, don't compare a rep shoe which has practical utility to a rep baseball card which is solely a collectors item.

As on og sneaker head who started the journey in the mid 90s im hella happy that the market is hella over saturated to the point that everyone is a copy paste nike dunk/jordan1 / collab limited buyer, they flooded the market and its no longer "special" to be a sneaker head in their circle. As an og we are hella spoiled to the point that we can almost get every basketball sneaker that was lusted for as a child. From shaqnosis to the gp gloves Nike air bakins ndestruckts uptempo zoom95 foams fila hill, and1 tai chi you name it. And all these can easily be copped. So to the ones who hypebeast the hell outta the copy paste kicks in the game i never thought i woudo say this but thank you 🫡 from an og sneakerhead born in 86.

I feel like hype beast culture has really made it hard for late game entry. I’m fairly new to collecting so I was buying a lot of older models and it was pretty smooth sailing 9/10 most older models were fairly priced, but God forbid I miss a current release and toy with the notion of looking on Goat or StockX it’s practically double retail an hour after the release and it takes some weeks sitting, if they do, before the prices level themselves out. Social media can really exasperate this feeling of having missed out so waiting for price stabilization tends to have a lot of people just pull the trigger so they’re not feeling left out making it harder for a reasonable aftermarket price to be achieved

Some people have never won a draw on SNKRS for a shoe they wanted. The rise in sneaker sales was from new blood but when they realize they aren’t allowed to bug a sneaker from the company that sells it but from a guy who’s scalping them and tripping the cost, new blood leaves and finds a different hobby for that dopamine fix. Other hobbies will sell their product to you on demand. No one wants to be a part of something that makes them feel like a loser… SNKRS. Eventually, after dabbling in the scene and blowing a couple of grand but still never owning the ones they actually did want, they move on. Mix that at BS with a terrible economy and this is what you get. Also, the scene is corny and uncool.. bunch of 15hr old pasty influencers talking bout “I gOtChU mY bOi”… cringe. It’s a scene filled with people who seems to be suburban kids in gated communities cosplaying like they’re from the streets. It’s noticeably gotten cornier. Eventually, people back away. Just be yourself and wear your shoes. If you’re a cool person, you don’t have to pretend to be something you’re not. I also agree with corporate greed.

LET IT DIE! It is ridiculous that SB's that used to be 150 - 200 bucks are up in the high 100's and into the 1000's. The sneaker market has more sellers in it than buyers because all the resellers are literally selling to other resellers. Add on inflation and just the cost of everyday living going through the roof, people simply do not have the extra funds to buy that $130 - $250 pair of shoes let alone $500 to $1000+. The only people who are mad about this are resellers because their product isn't moving, this whole sneaker was supposed to be just being fresh and wearing dope kicks while appreciating other dope kicks.

I'm very very happy to see the sneaker market to die which means those who are into buying and wearing sneakers will be the ones to benefit. This will be the end for most "resellers" because they can't make some money of sneakers they will never wear nor care about and they will hopefully find a real job. A culture focused on "market value" and greed will eventually implode itself and you see this by sneaker shop owners scamming their own consignees and employees, resell stores closing left and right. Hopefully time will come where shoes will be just shoes, no more and no less.

Let’s focus on Nike for a second but this applies across the board, they saw that resellers were taking all the shoes and making lots of money off of them at the expense of everyone else. Well aside from that not being right, it also left money on the table. If Nike just produced more products then the resellers are left holding the bag and Nike can sell more shoes at retail price and that makes Nike happy because they sold EVEN MORE shoes than before and that makes the average consumer happy, meanwhile the resellers have to hold their supply because they can’t move it. If you hate scummy resellers then this makes you happy. The price of this is lack of exclusivity but in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t matter much

I'll honestly keep buying well made and quality replicas if I can't cop on release day, until the sneaker industry gets it and corrects itself. to me it's the only way I make manufacturers pay for the part they play in the sneaker resell cancer bubble. There is no legit excuse for any sneaker in the world to be sold out on release day, none whatsoever. Real sneaker users and abusers can't cop at retail on release day, because of bots or resellers and then can't ever cop because of the hyped up price. What's a sneakerhead to do??? Cop the same exact shoe, a replica, hell even sometimes better made than the real product at an affordable retail like price, regardless if it's legit or not, cause again: It's just a friggin shoe peeps!!! I sincerely don't give a hootoot if they are legit or not cause no one can't tell these days period, full stop. I rather be satisfied on putting the shoe I like or want without any headaches of having to chase mirage dreams or stupid grails that at the end of day don't add any personal or monetary value to me...

Its not dying but normalized like 10 to 15 years ago where you could actually pick the colorway that you wanted for your Kobes. Hence "sneaker culture" these days should not be save at all.

Really the every day customer who actually want the shoe to wear it could easily shut reselling down by either you hit on the shoe or don't buy resell. When you buy resell it embolden the resellers to keep scalping. But imagine a reseller buying 10 pair of jordan 3 j balvin an nobody buys period. He would eventually sell them retail or for a lost.

I don’t even need hype but the retail on many shoes are too expensive, even when Nike runs sales, it’s 20% off, that’s lame…at least with adidas, you can really get steals when they run sales which makes me gravitate to a bigger collection of bargains

Too many releases, too many of which are lazy, an over-saturated market and some prices that just take the piss. New Balance Made have had some serious QC issues lately and they need to watch that. As for the resellers, they can just get in the bin.

A lot of the sneaker company’s are publicly traded and have to pay dividends to the share holders if they aren’t growing people wont buy the stock and the company loses money. If a company can’t sale more sneakers they raise prices to hit those targets.

Various factors, most covered already but another is society negativity, social media is a cesspool of moaning and spreading misery across everything, movies, music, sports, sneakers are no different, lots of opinions and the negative ones spread like cancer thus creating "that's trash" etc on latest releases

It's a cycle that I've seen repeat itself: Nike limits releases in order to create hype for their products -> people complain that releases are too limited and hard to get -> Nike then floods the market -> Resellers get mad that they can't resell, Nike gets grumpy that they can't drum enough hype -> Back to Nike limiting releases again. Question is, is there a way to make both parties (consumers who just want the product vs. resellers) happy?

    • @wade_county
      @wade_county Рік тому +1

No, because it's all artificial. Sneaker companies work with sneaker media (including shoetubers) to tell you what's cool and what you should be hyped about. Instead as someone who will like the shoe for themselves, the majority fall in the trap of "this must be cool, I'm not sure I like it because I don't know what I like." Then sneaker companies will limited the supply to make it seem special, that drives up interest and engagement. Then the resellers come and deplete the stock and jack up the prices. The faster people get over the hype sh!t and buy what they like, this cycle will never be broken. In the end, all this is garbage material being fed to us for huge profit.
