As a matter of fact, this truck actually started cycling continuously like this by itself recently... be interesting to know the reason for it :) A law similar to the one you mentioned came up here as well. I remember that originally these types of trucks were made to do a full cycle at the touch of a button, but due to safety regs. it become a two stage cycle: 1) unsweep, lower 2) sweep, raise However, most of the trucks' packers operated in that way.

Automatic continuous cycling...very unusual. Convenient as heck for the operators, but generally considered unsafe. I used to use an old Load-Master that would complete the entire cycle with one pull of the lever, which was great when you are working by yourself. But it would not operate continuously. Eventually, a 'split cycle' was mandated by law in the 1970's, including the rule that the cycle stop with the blade at 18" minimum from the hopper sill.

The mower at 2:02 should have been recycled and looks intact at 2:50 when the blade opens up. So much for the power of rear loaders!!!

I do have more footage of this truck to upload, but not of it packing out. They didn't pack these trucks up too hard when they were being used anyway...
