Trash Day 2006 - The Mother Load (HQ)

- This is it - the biggest one ever. Watch, listen, and perhaps even salivate as 1.5 tons worth of TV's, VCR's, and more get crushed to bits. It took 3 trash guys almost 15 minutes to load it all, but I have compressed it into 10 minutes by using time-lapse on some segments. The result is something I'm sure you will enjoy!
Originally part of the Junkpile DVD, I'm now publishing this for free viewing as a gift to my many fans. Enjoy.

Jan. 2017:
To those who have criticized me for supposedly throwing out "valuable antiques"; I can assure you there was nothing here of any monetary value whatsoever. I recycle any copper and aluminum, and sell any collectible items on eBay. If something collectible was thrown out, it must have been broken and worthless. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLEASE NOTE : AS OF 2017, ALL OF MY E-WASTE IS NOW RECYCLED!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the time this video was recorded, e-waste recycling facilities did not exist in my area. - Комедії
Electronics is a hobby of mine, and at one time I repaired a lot of TVs etc. for people. Which meant I had a lot of stuff in storage, and every spring I'd round up the junk units, strip the copper & aluminum and some components, and pile them up on the big trash pickup date. In '06 I was clearing out a lot of stuff to make room for more. Now business has slowed so I don't have as much trash anymore.... I'm glad I videotaped this so I can have a memory!

If I saw that, they would be gone within a heartbeat! Man I freaking love collecting vintage TV's and electronics!
Felt sorry for the guy at the side pressing that heavy button whilst the other 2 guys had the easy job of loading 1.5 tonnes of crap
This is so satisfying to watch. The one concern I have though is the mercury vapor in those CRTs. I didn't even think people were allowed to throw those things into the trash.
if i saw that on the side of the road i would have said "jackpot!"
Well you wouldnt cuz this world is full of asses that dont even give a frick to homeless pepole
@@springbonnie2382 Most homeless have buddies, They sit on the road asking for money. They switch off. Get the money and split it then go buy cigarettes and beer along with their drugs
..many thanks for that real great video... and merry christmas!!!
Back in the 90's i used to b a garbageman too but the press was 1 big / and on the top u had the side shift n the pull back.
If the truck was full the loader would go \ so we played with the buttons to keep it straight as much as possible.
We loaded 10-12T those times are priceless n never comning back.
Im glad i still have pics of that time😃
Man I wish there was a pile of electronics like that for me to dig through
Same here
You could have made HUGE dollars selling all this junk what a waste
we wouldn't have picked it up. because televisions and most electronic devices aren't allowed in our landfill.
Same here about 5 years ago I think it is when this was banned from dumps.
Yea people used to leave them in random places around the city but now there is a hefty fine for dumping. I haven’t seen many lately. I guess with cameras everywhere now people have stopped doing it.
Amazing amount of old TV's. excellent video. I subbed. Keep those video's coming.
This is how the German postal service delivers packages
I still have about 75+ other sets I kept for my collection, ranging from the late 40's to mid 80's. They'll probably end up in the landfill too, unless I find someone who wants them.
all of this TVs had a huge value they shouldn't be crushed in a garbage truck they should be loaded a normal truck and sent to a recycling center
the copper and aluminum were removed and recycled - I got about $200 worth out of this stuff....
UPS TRAINING DAY!
ez dealz cat in back grond
that was surprisingly intense and very interesting to watch. :)
All of that alone is going to make that truck hit the landfill 😂
Awesome video.
Unlikely - by this point I was stripping 99% of the copper, aluminum, and brass from these sets.
That is ALOT! Great job!
I'm managing, can't lift anything heavy anymore but it doesn't matter, I don't go rounding up old TVs like I used to.
I do strip the copper out of these before junking them BTW..
As I said before, recyclables like copper and aluminum were already removed. Old microwaves are by far the best source of copper, if you have a way to cut the transformers apart and remove it.
Indeed... Where I live there is a recycling facility near the transfer station, so much gets recycled around here.
Well done good job guys 👍
Wow thats a lot of stuff nice video!I know myself i sure would love to have looked throught that stuff for the metals and copper and even a vcr that mite still work...
Considering what it would cost to ship these things, I couldn't even give them away on eBay.
But I kept most of the best sets for my collection... see my other vids for a tour of them.
Merry Christmas UA-cam buddy! Hopper New Year.
Satisfaction compaction.
Bingo. This was a weird set because the chassis was made by Mitsubishi, and it had that infamous problem with the electrolytic caps leaking onto the board. I had fixed this for a customer but he never picked it up, and since it had no resale value (the CRT might have lasted another year at most), I decided to give it a starring role in this video instead.
nice action
I repair/refurbish used electronics, or at least I used to before the market collapsed, and the stuff in these videos were the rejects. I strip the recyclables (copper, aluminum, etc.) and some other components before discarding them.... so nothing of value ever gets wasted.
I'm glad to hear that! Thanks for the offer but I have a shop that sells refurbished TV's for $5.00-$20.00. They're that cheap because they're the old Wooden ones or the plastic wood grain ones.
@packrat79 There is about 5 dollars worth of copper in each one of those tv's. Big or small, they still have about the same amount. I used to work at a scrapyard, and older tv's like those are like gold to us.
The Eco geeks are loving this..
I agree
incredible crushing power
How do you end up with so much stuff!?
More like 500-700 cents. This stuff was mostly plastic, glass, and wood... it wouldn't have been worth the time to recycle the steel. I did, however, remove most of the copper and aluminum.
In England you would take the electronics, excluding televisions, to a scrap yard where you would get something similar to the same rate as for 'dirty' metal (anything containing iron). The televisions would be difficult to dispose of in that quantity.
I am amazed, I thought I've seen some nasty clean-up piles... but this officialy beats them all! Where did all that come from?! After all the compaction that occured, this must've filled at least a 1/3 of the truck?! You have some awesome clean-up videos, keep them coming =]
@heiltruckfan yeah those Heil 5000 are starting to win me over, pretty decent trucks! Where is that thunder storm guy? heard from, him lately?
clearly, this is somebody who's running a business out of his home, & I bet he didn't even give the men a tip for cleaning up all of this crap!
if I'd been on the truck, I would have just called a supervisor before going ahead and picking this up
How do you know he didn't make arrangements to get this picked up? Maybe he called ahead of time and paid up front.
DAMN!!! Did a television studio close operations? What’s with all the frickin TV’s???
were do you get all of this stuff???
Reminds me of mighty machines.
That was crazy............
i recognize this video......
if im not mistaken it was taken at a Canadian Target the day they shut down....although it's hard to tell because i dont remember my store having this much merchandise on its shelves at any point.
if you look carefully you can see my broken dreams next to a box of UP and UP tissues....
*WAH WAH*
Oh.....sweet!
i would die for alll of those elctronics lots of value still with copper and metal.
Woh! That was pretty cool! never knew a dustcart was capable of crushing stuff like this, I like it when they leave the packer up, load the hopper to the brim then bring down the crusher and it's history! Anyway, where does all this go?
BTW, The value of that must have been $2,000,000+ when new!
packrat79 please please please respond...how in the world did you get all of this stuff in all of your videos? Is it through work or something. I don't know if I mist something but this is incredible. Thanks and fantastic job as always.
Do you have any flat screen monitors? Like an older flat screen monitor. Not the Flat CRT screen ones either.
What's up with all the tv's?
This scared WALL-E
+Robert Kessel LoL. This would give WALL-E a run for his money.
whats the crushing force on the bin lorry crusher?
Ups collection lorry!! ups we lost it again.
packrat79, I would that the biggest part you forgot about, was the leaded glass and all of that phospor that covers the front inside of these tubes.
Do those go to recycle or landfill?
This load has more scrap value than you realize. Some scrapper would be 😢 or itching to take this stuff apart .
the guy on the crush button has a racket
These old guys work faster than some younger guys in other videos
Alright thanks man.
im a garbage man myself and was silently thanking my lucky stars throughout this video that you arent on my trash route. cool video
2.00£ For Your Paycheck
Makes more sense to use a bulldozer than to manually pick up each item by hand
Quit A few Antiques on these videos that should have been put on ebay instead of the junk pile
All that e-waste!!!! Mercury an etc omg!!!
Televisions especially shouldn't go in land fills, any appliance for that matter, the short term impact will hardly be noticed but in the long run with all those heavy metals and contaminates it's one of the worst things we're doing to our planet
This company has a recycling center where they take this before it goes to a landfill.
You did melt the gold right?
@packrat79
Which country is this? USA or Canada? I live in UK and I know for sure, that if you piled up your old electronics here, bin men, wont pick them up. Here we gotta take all electronics to the recycling centre. Pain in the butt, to be honest, especially with our petrol prices. I normally try to hide all of my electronics in my wheely bin, so that bin men don't see it and take it away. Nice video!
to see a video like this and the reckless disregard for the environment with the incorrect disposal and /or recycling of hazardous materials such as lead and phosphorous to name a few from the televisions at least only drives home the point the need for responsible handling of E-waste.along with other hazardous materials . What landfill did this wind up in? there will be a Bugger price to pay for this !!
DateTime69 couldn't agree more mate
You're right.
Wtf most of that could've been scrapped/recycled. Unless if there's a station to sort things out, it makes us Americans look bad...
Michael Dodge Trump is doing a good job of that mate!
He said he salvaged what he could sell and got rid of the rest
@@JonnyBlueChair lazy comment, probably from a Brit.
Where was this?
i would love to have a pile like that to pickup, i love when the tvs explode when you pack them up. a big tv would shake the truck and blast you with a burst of air.
thats a scrap man's dream right there
Aaawww poor televisions
Hey so thats were the 90s ended up you can take all of it with you but Give Us Back Our Cartoons
Dam it'll been great if you had a front end loader around!
I would have taken one of those TV's for my video games! I'm sure there was some video game console hidden in there!
lots of scrap metal and copper
jo material!!!
WOW
first video I ever saw on UA-cam.
im surprised they picked this up. did this come from a business or a residence?
In the beginning I hear a stray cat meowing
PCBs have value, But it's time consuming to prepare it all.
all that copper :o
Just pick up the TV's like they weigh nothing.
Crushing all stuff small pieces and with Tv's very nice sound yeah :😁
I'm surprised they didn't throw you in there afterwards... I assume you called in advance?
No, I would never throw out a video game console.
I've still got lots of old CRT TV's if you want to buy one....
its amazing the stuff u will find and its resale value. but i thought it was illegal(even in 2009) to send tvs and electronics to the dump bc of lead mostly.
Tons of scrap metal in there.🤑
@packrat79 ummm ever hear of recycling the scrap metal inside?
theres a good bit of copper in all those tvs
Was this the aftermath of a Hoarders episode?
id scrap everything
Someone was a hoarder.
This would piss me off if I was a trash guy.
Hopefully the guys didn't breathe in the phosphorus that coats the inside of the tubes as they were crushed. I'm not sure how toxic it is but it cant be too healthy.
me too
and anyway, that pile is sweet sweet overtime for me, lol
Breathing in all that picture tube glass dust was not a good idea.
