Appreciate the shoutout. It was a fun and short interview but I wanted to push as much as I could to get some solid words out from Jarred about the entire acquisition. I really do believe Nikon is going to take RED to new levels and vice versa.

Please ask Nikon for Z8 Subject Tracking in manual focus mode, as Zf - voigtlander lenses must have it for Z8.

Nice, thanks Guys! Chris Frost has already given the Z28-400mm a recommendation, so if it really is shipping, I look forward to a phone call...🎉

Nikon Cine lenses… I am with Konstantin. The lens will be first released as PL-mount , but maybe later they might get Z-mount.

Hey Becky and Kon! (Joe Vloggs on Fridays here!) I do think that the Petapixel speculation is correct about Nikon's acquisition of RED.
Long story short, I think Nikon were predicted by all counsel to win the suit (and tbh, looking at the case, me too!), but that the act of winning would not just negatively impact RED, it would also open the door to Nikon's competitors challenging RED's patents (caselaw henceforth set), which would not help Nikon gain any advantage at all. By dismissing the case last April and completing the purchase of RED a year later, Nikon and RED both win and their collective competitors all lose. RED's patents remain unchallenged, now owned by Nikon. RED gets to continue with Nikon's backing and Nikon gets to put REDCode in Nikon cameras.
By purchasing RED (whose patents I genuinely believe Nikon would have defeated) Nikon placed itself in an inordinately better market/strategic position than Nikon simply winning the suit against RED, and it made selling to Nikon RED's only viable path to a stable future. It may be a bit 4D chess but sometimes winning arguments just because you can (in court and elsewhere) isn't actually the best path forwards.

Personally I see it less like 4D chess, more like Risk (the board game). Nikon just took Kamchatka, from Alaska, if you are familiar with the game...

@@dominiclester3232 I'm not too familiar with the game but I see where you're going! 😁

@@dominiclester3232 $85M! I feel vindicated! Either Nikon had an overwhelmingly strong hand (i.e. were going to win the suit) or there is a possibility that RED were drowning in debt. Either may be true, but certainly one of them is. Since by law Nikon would have to announce any additional debts beyond the purchase price, and since Japanese companies are generally risk-averse, I think it's that Nikon's response to RED's suit was compelling. 🙂

Can the Nikkor Z Teleconverter be used with the 28-400mm lens?

A lot of 3rd party yes , but not sure why Sigma won't realse anything.
They have some interesting lesnes for Sony mount , is it becuase some collide with Nikon's lineup ?
Like the recent 50 1.2 or the 500 F4 (both very good options)

Hello Both, As some one who has been going to TPS(The Photography show) and many of its predecessors for year, when I see the UA-cam videos of the NAB Show, it just looks so much better and more Pro kit were TPS had defiantly gone more consumer based. A question RED and Nikon Z mount or PL mount do we know if the PL mount is an open standard or is there a licence fee?
Say hello to Tilly to. Opps and give the cat some fuss?

Speculation: I read the executive command to read that during discovery they learned a lot about the Cinema market, noticed that it was interesting and they did not have anything on the area. They already knew the video is growing and the photo is contracting and say(insert English accent) : "This company has some juicy bits you know" and decided to buy. Something similar to a woman being invited to a party by X and after the party they become partners, it's not like the woman says: I am gonna marry this dude because he invited me to a party.

Whatever the reason, I'm sure it was a business one and great for Nikon to move forward with that brand. I have not been interested in the 28-400 but I look forward to see what it does. Maybe better than I think??

Ahh! the official mascots for Nikon Report!
I think Nikon has truly upped the game buy acquiring Red. In a couple years or possibly earlier I see Nikon releasing a global shutter camera that will be the next mirrorless flagship camera.
The 28-400mm is a interesting lens and a bold move by Nikon. I think it will become the all around travel lens for people. I’d loan you the 24-200 if I had one.
The Tamron lens is the mystery to me. Viltrox is really adding to the 3rd party lenses in full frame and DX . Which is good to see others filling the void for dx lenses. I am still going to get the 20mm for my Zf. Then I will look for something a bit longer for it. Just to try and keep it looking retro. And I don’t mind character.
Well you both have a great rest of the week. 📷☕️

I thought the same about the global shutter initially, but a friend pointed out that the physical bulk of RED cameras is mostly for cooling. Apparently they run quite warm. I see it coming in the future but perhaps not as soon as I'd initially hoped. I think Sony may have nailed it in the short term and we'll still have quite a long catch-up period, unfortunately. 😮‍💨

    Hey K, I’m considering the Z 85mm 1.8. What’s your issue with that lens?

    • @graysofwestminster
      @graysofwestminster  5 місяців тому +1

Hey Mike, No issue, but I do prefer my f mount AF-S 85mm f/1.4G over it. There is a video on our channel where we compare the 85mm lenses and I do explain it in bit more detail.
