      It's funny to realize the influence this had on Danganronpa was obvious to Japanese fans this whole time. @@zepic3895 Yeah, but all the Chunsoft Lore elements were introduced well after the merger. The first game doesn't have any of the elements, and that's the only one from Spike. The first time we start seeing KNY elements is specifically in Danganronpa 2, with the meta-recreation plot, as each trial mirrors a trial in the first game. Then in UDG we see the return of the Blue Silhouettes, now used for men exclusively with another color for women. DR3 introduces the brainwashing videos in 2016 (irl, Side Despair is 2009-2011, Side Future is likely 2015). And finally, 2017's V3 is just all in.
      But they absolutely did have close ties ahead of time. Specifically for this conversation, Zero Escape (Chunsoft property originally) director Kotaro Uchikoshi and Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka being good friends. Sayaka is literally a parody of the deuteragonist of Zero Escape, Akane. Makoto's hoodie also has Zero's logo. He's wearing Zero Escape merch. Such good friends that they, alongside Danganronpa's artist and the composer (who also has done games like No More Heroes and did Vanquish at the same time as Danganronpa) left Spike Chunsoft after V3 and founded their own company, Too Kyo Games. Despite the name, they also make anime, like Akudama Drive. Basically just went and made their own Kojima Productions.

    Ghost cars in gta san andreas aren’t necessarily a bug. Them driving on their own is. One of the devs said in an interview a long time ago that he put them out there for players who got lost in the woods to have an easy way out but they didn’t mean for them to move, that was because of a bug with the spawning. There's something so innately interesting and creepy about obscure Japanese video games like this, particularly those from the 5th and 6th console generations. They carry an air of mystery, of forboding, like buried secrets that weren't supposed to be uncovered. They harken back to a time where not everything could be debunked with a quick Google search and the truth, if there was any, was hidden in rumors and hoaxes and wild speculation. It's a phenomenon that I doubt we will every truly see again.

      Another good one is LSD: Dream Emulator, released in 1998. It's about the varying effects of LSD represented as levels that get increasingly more bizarre and surreal as you go. At one point you enter a district that is nothing but a black void with human faces on walls moving around with their eyes blacked out. This kind of hidden meta storytelling is so cool, it works especially well here because it's a 100% reward for this massive VN. You've finally seen everything and you got the gold bookmark, you select it to load up your file to see if there's any sort of completion bonus, but you're met with not a bonus, but an entirely new meta narrative surrounding the game itself. It's the equivalent of the 2D Rayman 2 beta stage in the PS1 port of Rayman 2, or various unlockable development rooms in other games, showing you a peek behind the curtain. This goes one step further- since it's so much easier and faster to create something in text, a whole new scenario is added with multiple brand new choices.

    The second story when it talks about stabbing with a needle and when it does not bleed this is proof of the membrane. This is a variation of a test for witches they performed in the medieval times. Witch hunters would stab them with needles and when it didn't bleed they knew you were a witch. The catch? The witch-hunters were scammers and had a special kind of needle which had a button to allow it to retract into the handle, which when stabbed at someone would look like they didn't bleed. They said they were looking for "the witches spot" or something like that, there was only one spot necessary so they would actually stab them with needles quite a few times before "finding it".
    the authors of these works are clearly well read which makes sense considering they are game writers. Most of these are just real solid horror stories that have a lot in common with older literary horror which often get very surreal, and also "Weird Fiction". I was reminded of French Symbolist and German Expressionist works when hearing these stories but obviously with a new-age sci-fi element to them. One contemporary author who has a lot of stories like this too is Thomas Ligotti. really cool stuff. There is also a short horror story collection written in the 2000s called The White Hands and other Weird Tales by Mark Samuels that has a story about a company that enslaves employees for some conspiracy

    I believe it's a really well made imitation of a schizophrenic episode. It covers a lot of typical symptoms like hidden body devices and self surgery, similar to those that believe there are microphones in their teeth and attempt to pull them out. Contacting government officials with plots about saving the world is also a very common one. This is somewhat humorous to me and I feel like the studio behind this game thought the same thing when hiding this in it. It can be insensitive to adapt the experience of people really suffering from schizophrenia into a type of horror entertainment but the amount of observation needed to be accurate about the condition can be funny to a lot of people, because it has the potential to really f with people that have no awareness or understanding of how it commonly manifests.
    I also think that the writer being kept as a slave in a basement could be an exaggerated parallel to the working conditions of a Japanese salaryman. Same with the company taking over the world, it seems like a running joke. When you are creative, intelligent and like to play pranks, it's hard to pass up on the opportunity of potentially messing with a lot of people in their room in the dark at 3 am when you have the chance, instead of simply releasing a bland regular game and being done with it forever. The charm of this is that it's still being mined, talked about and has a global reach well after 25 years. That is no easy feat for a piece of media to achieve.

    Japanese devs tend to leave little messages or hidden easter eggs unlocked by doing some bizarre or almost impossible task in the game, usually making fun of the company they work for, managers or the game itself. Hell, I think the debug room of the original Final Fantasy VII had tons of creepypasta worthy dialogues and that was a very successful mainstream title. Imagine what they left in more obscure games

    I really like the content in that debug menu - even though it's 'not meant to be found,' it really is. Game Labo magazine in Japan was popular for people into game hacking, copying, pirating, etcetera. Game copying tools and Action Replay devices were advertised all over them, and there were always vast lists of action replay codes that the editors made for the latest games for bringing up things like debug menus, not just for cheating. It seems they put the images in that debug mode intentionally knowing that people would find it eventually through hacking, and it's an amazingly powerful surprise when people discover something incredibly mysterious in a mystery game, even when they're trying to look deep into the game's code and assets rather than the regular gameplay narration.

    If you think about it carefully, each of the 4 given options you can select, seem to actually somewhat match with each of the 4 effects (even though they are randomized, wonder if this was intentional or a mistake).
    -Become Cursed, is definitely the blue head story, since there's multiple mentions and implications of a curse;
    -Choose To Suffer, is most definitely the creepy one with the flashing images, as it heavily mentions, features, depicts, and talks of suffering;
    -Be Cautious, is very probably the weird ringing screen story, since over all it can be read like a warning of sorts, and does say to "be careful" towards the end (and though it does also mention suffering at the start, and being cursed at the end, it makes more sense that the other two options are for the other two stories, which feature each of these themes far more prominently and pervasively);
    -Why You Will Die, then, by logic and exclusion, must probably be the 1 second picture frame, no clue though what's that supposed to mean, how or why that relates to the picture.

    I mean, removing a piece from his tongue and fat from his guts could very much be a overly dramatic way of saying "I have no say in the company and am even losing weight because of this dev cycle".
    Knowing how often japanese creative work makes fun of its process (manga in general always poking fun at its own hellish production cycle, for example), and the way it's presented in here, I think it's highly probable that it's just the devs having a bit of fun.

      It's literally the plot of their biggest original franchise's last main series game. So many spoilers for a single game that exists in an isolated AU: Danganronpa V3 is an AU where Chunsoft, after becoming Spike Chunsoft, succeeded at all this via the Danganronpa franchise and now instead of using magic for real life killing games with real fictional characters, implants them in human bodies and just does it irl as death game reality television. The previous works in the series are literally just video games and anime and stuff in the universe of V3, made by the evil org responsible for everything, now called Team Danganronpa. But if they made the series... they're Spike Chunsoft. Using VNs and games and finally TV to take over the world, using fictional characters who are actually alive to make the media.
      And previous entries in the series reference other parts of the easter egg (spoilers for the main universe). The brainwashing videos in particular are a major plot point. You have the one that makes you obedient to Junko, and one that makes you kill yourself in a mad self-destructive frenzy. So... brainwashing and the screaming faces basically.
