This is why Cragen never got promoted from Captain. I think he mentioned it before on SVU how he is the longest serving Captain in the NYPD. While he stuck to his principles, he made lots and lots of enemies.

The pain that Cragen shows is all the more terrible because he knows his deception has to be two-fold: make the conspirators believe he's descended to their level, then to show that was a lie. And at least one of them was someone he thought of a true friend, a comrade he entrusted with his life.

Amen to that. NYPD has a unit that only does work for movies and TV series that are based around or have touches of the NYPD. They not only make sure uniforms, badges, award badges are authentic "looking," they also provide security details to the production crews when they are shooting outdoor scenes. I even understand that they are often asked for their opinion(s) on the actual procedures used in real life. That would be the perfect end of the career position, serve 20+ on the street and then do five or six with that unit. I just cannot remember the name of that unit off hand.

This is where, IMHO, where the rout of the numerous attempts to destroy the SVU unit started. They tried to get rid of Cragen back then, and thought putting him in charge of the SVU would burn him out or some such. The final attempt was the multiple part season 13 finale - season 14 premiere when they tried to frame him for a hooker's murder and shut down the entire SVU unit. That was one of Dick Wolf's finest long game plots..and it shouldn't have surprised anyone how it ended up with Stabler leaving.. and now repeated attempts to force Benson out either.

Wow. I almost forgot this one. I gotta say: I liked Florek a lot better as Cragen on SVU. His character was more fleshed out, and all of those years sober made him so admirable to me, especially* after the stuff he saw working THAT job. He didn't take any bs from his --Stabler-- squad bc he wasn't afraid of labels or a need to be macho. In the ep. with Abraham, everyone is ordered to see a shrink, & when Elliott is found unfit, he tells him so. When Cragen's investigated And ACTUALLY indicted (sn 14?) & jailed, he rolls with it. He understands the maxim that 'there are no justified resentments' and it made him a great leader.

Dann Florek the actor was on the original Law and Order from 1990 to 1993 and was fired from the show when producers decided they wanted to add more females to the show but he came back from time to time on the original show. Dann Florek joined SVU full time in 1999 when the show debuted in 1999 until he left the show in 2014 when his character Captain Cragen retired.

I know this comment is 3 years old and you’re now 14 years old but good to see as young as you are being a fan of the Law and Order franchise. I agree the original and Law and Order SVU are the best and though have seen Criminal Intent and even episodes of Organized Crime still can’t beat the original and SVU they are classics. I am 37 years old almost 38 and remember when SVU debuted and didn’t get into the original show until I was 10-11 years old myself but have seen almost every episode from the beginning over the years as well as SVU but don’t really watch newer seasons now.

As public figures, they're actions are open to scrutiny by the community at large, and depending on how well known these public figures are, they can also be considered role models of the people. Therefore, they have a responsibility to live a clean, lawful life. Their money and fame should not be used as a means to allow them leeway in illegal activities. Also, just because they have this money and fame does not mean that they should be put upon a pedestal that allows them to see the law as simple requests to adhere by instead of what they actually are -- the law.
I hope I made some sense in my explanation.
