I'm confused? So an underwater civilazation of deformed but happy singing duck elf people capture odd looking halloween spirit prop pirates who also live underwater with fish squirrels and dance with hovering frozen mermaids? This is the most bizarre darkride at a Sixflags.
My favorite part is the Speelunker goofily saying "That was fun" @6:32, presumably referring to the vicious murder-by-crushing of the pirate under the boulder.
Dude look at the 1987 version of the ride, and just type in speelunker cave or even look at the 1960s version to give you a better clue of an uneasy feeling
Lore: You’re going on an expedition to find the fabled spelunker cave but are told to look out for captain Moreland who is also looking for the spelunkers. You go through several scenes looking for them and eventually find the cave. Once in the cave they realize you are good and are happy and sing songs for you. Captain Moreland also finds the cave and wants to get the spelunkers treasure leading to them fighting back against Moreland and winning. They celebrate with their treasure and wish you a fond farewell.
@@SlushysSecret Yeah...if you know what to look for its obvious, but the audio mixing isnt the best and half of the effects do not work most of the time.
When I was a kid it was the Cave then it became the Looney Tunes ride. I liked the cold dark black light glowy weird cave thing better. But it way it was always a good ride to get on during the hot part of the day.
I wish that they just did stand-alone speelunkers as now, they pretty much half assed a pirate story with no moving pirates and the speelunkers with a rushed plot. It’s not that bad but I guess I expected more
Actually the ride itself might be being vandalized, as a bunch of teens have just been fooling around in the ride in recent videos like screaming, and most of the effects faded or don't seem to work properly, especially the screen in the cave scene where it randomly turns black, honestly this was no excuse for six flags to rush a beloved ride, which worries me for its future, they really should've re made the original all together
I just watched a video of a pov that at some point a ride operator announced to remain in the boat, so it definitely seems like it's been going through vandalism, and another thing that might prove this is the change in the speelunkers head positions, it could be maintenance fixing the heads but they way they are now positioned look weird, so it might just be the vandalism
Any idea on why this ride has been marked closed for quite some time as per the six flags app? Visiting from Ohio we were hoping to ride this new attraction!
The ride was damaged in floods several months ago, and despite it seeming like it wouldn't be closed long, here we are. It's a shame as the previous ride version (Yosemite Sam's Gold River Adventure) was also closed due to floods, so the park didn't seem to fix the core problem before investing in this re-theming... I've updated the ride page to reflect this: guidetosfot.com/rides/piratesspeelunkercave/
Unlikely since Monster Mansion (then called Monster Plantation) proved to be more popular than Tales of Okeefenoke. Granted, the dark ride still drew guests after Sid and Marty Kroft redesigned the ride into the 70s but it was starting to feel unkept and not many kids grew fond of its original source material. The problematic part of being part of the fictional Uncle Remus stories is how the characters of the Brers are supposed to resemble black slaves during the time period of the confederate south, written by a white author. If in Disney’s case they absolutely refuse to show any of these characters now from song of the south and retheme their ride to princess and the frog then Six Flags sees no need into investing into the controversial characters and they know it as they had to redesign the confederate area both Tales of Okeefenoke and Monster Plantation resides at.
@@pecemakor917considering how people are these days and how the hype for the okefenokee ride has gone down, forever being lost media, its completely useless to bring it back
It doesn't have as much animated characters as the original. Also, the storyboard (storyline) as you go through it is kind of messed up. Whoever wrote the storyboard didn't do a very good job. If you pay attention, the main villain is highlighted in the beginning but you have no idea what his role is during the ride or what actually happens to him at the end. It's kind of dull except for all the glowy paint and lighting.
I think the park decided not to show the main pirate at the end because he was horribly maimed as a result of being crushed by the boulder at 5:32. My only complaint is the video of the 3 pirates at the beginning, we had no idea what they were saying (possibly setting up the reason they were going to steal Speelunker treasure?). But we still got the overall gist of the ride and enjoyed it. It's definitely not the kind of ride to try and analyze the plot line too hard, after all its pirates fighting Speelunkers. Very much a throwback experience. More motion in some of the Speelunkers would have been nice, but I also think the charm of the ride would have been lost had they gone full-motion Disney-esque animatronics.
To be honest I think OT knocked it out of the park. No it's not the original Speelunker Cave but at least they brought the Spees back and highly upgraded the ride

Nah take a look at the 1960s version of the speelunker cave, it was always purposely meant to be bizarre and odd, but I think it's unique

I went on it with a few friends recently, and we could not have been more confused. It was bizarre and off-putting.

Well I guess what yosmite replaced came back int its home

What the heck was that!? The ride made no sense!
I think it's part of the charm.
Since this is a recreation of the original Speelunker Cave from the 1960s, I wonder if they'll recreate the Okeefenoke ride at Six Flags over Georgia
Very much doubt it since Tales of the Okefenokee is inspired by the Uncle Remus stories.

The lift is at 3:23. As far as I'm aware, the layout of the ride itself has never changed since the original "The Cave" ride.
