I like that she genuinely does love her husband. It sucks the "hateful married couple" trope has been done to death so much that seeing a nuclear family that is completely dysfunctional but their actual care for one another *makes* it function is a breath of fresh air. None of these characters are completely good (save for maybe some of the kids) but you actually like them despite it. Great show.
That's one of the things that took me off guard while watching the show for the first time. It is undeniably hilarious and the characters are beyond over-the-top, but they still have a level of depth that feels believable, and adds to their personality rather than contradictd it.
That trope of the hateful family and couple has made me so desensitized, that when I see a loving one (Or even just people who care and love for others period) in an adult show it’s kinda crazy. Thing is it shouldn’t have to be.
Man, I actually like how they wrote her character with quite a lot of typical flaws and stereotypes for her role as a wife/mom in the show but gave her a lot of heart and honesty that highlights how caring she is about her family.
There are a lot of scenes of her encouraging her husband and kids that can be pretty heartwarming. I love the episode Heroine Addict that deals with her trying to be a better role model to Beth.
She's an amazing character, she isn't like Marge or Lois like other cartoon families she's actually a pretty badass character. She has a good heart and actually loves her family rather than pretend to love them. Same with Bob, he cares so much about his kids and is a great role model without being annoying and over the top. She's a great female figure whose been through some shit
I weirdly love that the writers didn't make Pickles resent having a family or feel like she wasted her potential by getting married. She could have been a designer but hated having her ideas stolen and talked down to by jackasses like Tommy Vinegar and Pristine. It was a hobby and didn't make her happy. A lot of 1990s - early 2000s family shows did that with the mother figures going back to college to finish the education they put on hold to raise their families while building resentment for their kids and partners' ability to use the time she "lost".
The character is actually lifted from one of Angus Oblong's short stories, titled "Rosie's crazy mother", but it's not completely unplausible that he was inspired by Marge Simpson's design.
She's definitely better than her children's book counter point. She's awful in "Rose's Crazy mother" at least I think that's what her story was called.

Pickles definitely has a drinking problem and smokes like a chimney but no one can ever say she doesn't love her family. While most adult animated shows have families that despise each other, it was always nice to see how The Oblongs, despite all their obvious issues, were actually relatively happy and loving.
How are Lois and Marge nags? The only reason they gotta nag is because their husbands are incompetant at keeping up with domestic life. We see Bob avoid this by being more able and competant as a father and provider who does his share of domestic duties in spite of his nugget status

He uses his pipe to steer. he also probably has a specilized wheel that has the gas pedal on the wheel itself, which is a real thing for some disabled people btw.
After noticing that the female Hill characters have an affinity for 50s- 60s updos and bouffant hairstyles, I just had a minor detail thought. We've seen in the past that Pickles used to style her hair in a beehive- bouffant style. After moving to the Valley, her wigs were probably beehive styles at first but as she started drinking, she probably began passing out in weird angles and riding in the family car (her hair bends like Marge Simpson's do ) the tops became iconicly bent. Meanwhile her ex friend Pristine just updated her teenage Debbie bouffant into a Karen Bob bouffant. It show how differently the two gals from the Hills followed their paths I'm life.
Used to love watching this on Adult Swim on those late nights during high school. It's nice to see that it's still appreciated _and_ gaining recognition.
Pickles is how you make a mother who does have flaws but genuinely does care for her family and does everything that counts when it comes to being a good mother and wife. She smokes and she drinks and she lost all her hair but she never blames anyone else other than probably the assholes up in the hills. Which to be honest that's completely justified. She loves her family and she does everything that she can for her family and when she does make a mistake she is genuinely sorry and tries to make it right and tries to change or tries to see things from other people's perspectives.
I know this is a anoying thing when people be like Gosh golly geez so many likes But i didn't expect this many and I'm actually like huh neat Basically Pickle's rules and i love her she's such a great role model Thank you all of you
That's like the entire point of the Debbies. It takes the popular girl clique to a nonsensical extreme where they're so caught in being the popular girls that they've lost all sense of individuality.
“Did you know vomit tastes bad?!” She says this after she gives up smoking and drinking. Vomit now tastes bad because it no longer has any liquor in it. 🤣🤣🤣
I can relate, after the divorce my mom explored her sexuality and was never really 'there' for us, she made sure there was always food and a roof, but that's about it, if we had issues or questions they either went unanswered or ignored altogether.
@@GoticoArrombado You never know. I was just curious why he commented this. I'm empathetic to his situation of course, but I wanted to know what he wanted said.

She reminds me of my mom a lot. She isnt perfect, but she loves us. And i know she does. She just has flaws and can sometimes make it out to be like she hates us, but she would kill for us!
It's pretty Ironic that even though they live in a toxic wasteland, pickles and bob have one of the least toxic relationships in the realm of adult animation!
What i like about the oblongs is the idea of family. In many shows, they show people together but they hate eachother. For instance, family guy. Peter feels Trapped in his marriage and takes out his anger by doing stupid shit and hating on his kids. Louis was a party girl who got brought down by marriage and is now a cynical Karen. Constantly trying to control something because she's lost control at home. Chris is there as a gag effect to either represent teenage sexual tendencies in an extreme way or make incest jokes. Meg started out as the gag middle child people might have been able to relate to but she turned into the gag stick. Whatever plotting they want they can just make her do it sense her character has no substance. This episode she's a lesbian, now she's beating people up on to return to normal by the next episode. And then stewie and brian. Again both started out as a sort of comedy relief until they ran that course. Now they are left with whatever stereotype they couldn't fit into the others. It went from stewie wanting to kill louis and brian being an alcoholic writer to know where stewie is trying to have s#x with louis and brian is just stewies side kick. Then there's this show. Each character has there own personality and problems and they even have disagreements and fights but they stick together and have eachothers backs. And that's a family. Bob is very positive and is trying to keep everyone happy and healthy. And unlike other shows, he loves his wife and kids. Pickles is negative with problems but she shows genuine care for her family. Constantly showing love her own way and trying to do what she thinks is best. And unlike other shows, she loves her husband and kids. Maybe things could have been better, but she wouldn't trade it for the world. The kids are strange but they are trying to live a normal life despite being different. Unlike other shows where they take mundane characters and put them in strange situations. And that is what I like about oblongs over any other show. The only show that comes eben close is American dad but thats more of a mid point.
It’s kinda sweet how much Pickles loves her family. Even though she’s shown to have given up the good life and ended up with addictions and has shown to be flawed in how she handles her mothering role, Pickles doesn’t seem to regret her choices at all. Also, I realize she shares the same voice as Dr. Ann Possible so I can’t help but hear this voice of this Disney character.
She is so funny and so sadly underrated she deserves to be one of the top best tv cartoon moms like Marge, Francine Smith, Louis Griffin and Linda Belcher

@@yggdrasil2 Oh, you know...a sense of levity, a general ambivalence to your condition, etc. I won't lie and say that it doesn't have its uses...but if you don't already drink, I thoroughly don't recommend adopting the habit. The fact she’s not speaking with regret 1:10 but still acknowledges it was a step down but it’s what made her happy regardless because she wakes up next too a guy who truly loves her no matter what
I remember seeing this on tv and night when I was a kid, i distinctly remember the line. “You may control your mind but you will never control my ass.”
@im not glaring now, just a bit more feminine haha nice! Pickles was always my favorite.
Bro like the show is 44% forgotten but this legends show us the oldest [as] show ever
The oldest show on Adult Swim is actually Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which aired in December of the year 2000
This actually aired on The WB (anyone remember when that was a channel?), but got canned after three or four episodes and was burned off when Cartoon Network launched their Adult Swim block.
@@internetdingus yup
I forgot how much of a gem this show was
I wondered for the longest time how Bob could drive a car
Probably with the same thing he made his kids with.
hard work and determination
@@comettoss3935 I was gonna say "its cuz of miracle that only god knows" but yours is better
His mouth, torso, head
Take your pick
He uses his pipe to steer.
he also probably has a specilized wheel that has the gas pedal on the wheel itself, which is a real thing for some disabled people btw.
Pickles confidence is everything, I always thought she was a kick ass mother character.
Really interesting analysis!
I love Pickles so much
She is the closest thing to a waifu I think I'll ever have again.
I love Pickles and Bob's relationship. You can see the love
"I coulda sworn she drove us home." I fuckin cackled! 😂😂😂
Why did this show ever get cancelled??
It’s so so so funny!! 😂🤩
Low amount of viewers I think
@@SoldiesBC yep
Amen.
Same reason Mission Hill got canned: low ratings and bad reviews.
It aired on children program
6:34 Love that he bounces back up like whatever those toys were called
I think it's called a "Bopper or Boppo"
Could also be a wibble-wobble
That’s because he’s shaped like one of those toys 😅
Dude i like how this family be radiated as hell and fucked
yet like really cute lmao and nice lol
like this feels like a real family that's neat
I know this is a anoying thing when people be like Gosh golly geez so many likes
But i didn't expect this many and I'm actually like huh neat
Basically Pickle's rules and i love her she's such a great role model
Thank you all of you
1:43 is just flat out hilarious the alien debbie just shrugging and just leaving is priceless
Alien debbie: whatever, I'm out.
"Either I am really smashed or you and your friends look exactly alike."
THANK GOD someone else noticed!!!
That's like the entire point of the Debbies. It takes the popular girl clique to a nonsensical extreme where they're so caught in being the popular girls that they've lost all sense of individuality.
“Did you know vomit tastes bad?!”
She says this after she gives up smoking and drinking. Vomit now tastes bad because it no longer has any liquor in it. 🤣🤣🤣
I love the sudden impliction that Bob has never thrown up lol
@@yggdrasil2Or he can't taste.
Even though pickles does have a lot of problems it's nice to see an adult animated mom that actually cares about her family and loves her husband
Such a hidden gem only the true OG's know.
Her and Eda from the owl house would be the best of friends
I need to see that show.
@@yggdrasil2 it's pretty good the rest of season 2 is dropping soon
I was just thinking that
Those are mine dumb kids!
I like how the family doesnt hate eachother and are nice people for once! (Kinda reminds me of Bob’s Burgers)
I can relate, after the divorce my mom explored her sexuality and was never really 'there' for us, she made sure there was always food and a roof, but that's about it, if we had issues or questions they either went unanswered or ignored altogether.
Do you think this makes you find these clips more funny or less?
@@yggdrasil2 i don't think that anybody would find that fun
@@GoticoArrombado You never know. I was just curious why he commented this. I'm empathetic to his situation of course, but I wanted to know what he wanted said.
So in essence,
Women ☕️
Pickels is a rare case of animated female characters who you can tell was given just as much writing time as the other characters 😂I love her she's always seemed so normal and approachable which of course there's something to be said about that 😂
She reminds me of my mom a lot. She isnt perfect, but she loves us. And i know she does. She just has flaws and can sometimes make it out to be like she hates us, but she would kill for us!
The difference between friends and true family is that the latter always loves each other, even when they seem like they hate each other.
The Oblongs are actually the most charming TV family. I will die on this hill
It's pretty Ironic that even though they live in a toxic wasteland, pickles and bob have one of the least toxic relationships in the realm of adult animation!
Video: addiction 🚬🍸🍾
commentsection: couple goals 💝💕
“What are you doing?!”
“Burying beer. Oh crud! That means I drank gopher poison.”
I fear American Dad is falling to the Family Guy pitfall...
Bobs Burgers is pretty good too.
She is the best alcoholic mother ever =D
I aspire to marry a woman like her.
She can replace Lois honestly Lois is such a freakin' wad. Pickles is a drunk and still a better mom than Lois ever could be
@@cadencelemelin3164 very true like seriously
0:30 does anyone notice she doesn't WASH the dish. She scrapes it clean and puts it away lmao.
12:05 "oh boy..." Son, my heart 😭
Pickles is awesome! She’s one of my favorite characters on the show.
Despite her flaws she gave up her privelages to be with Bob and I can respect that even though she's in a state of constant stupor.
It hurts my soul how far ahead of its time this show was sometimes
this show was so awesome especially satirizing the inequality in the US
I like how she just scrapes the plate off, and puts it back into the cupboard.
“I’m gonna go upstairs and start plugging things in!” I love that they love each other
11:45 “B**ch gotta go!”
I heard that pickles I agree with you👍🏽
15:17 THE DELIVERY OF "NUN PILE ‼🔥🦅💥‼🗣🔥🔥‼🗣🦅🔥" MAKES ME CRY
This is by genuinely one of the most charming and adorable family dynamics I’ve ever seen.
16:41 I love how Bob does his eyebrows at Pickles. He knows whats up.
Do Beth next please!
14:18 Not gonna lie it's super odd how Milo sleeps deeply by the sound of his parents banging in the room next to him
The next is gonna be of the Debbies, but I promise to get to Beth after that! Plus a second Helga-vid.
@@yggdrasil2 The Debbie's are the Embodiment of debutants
@@yesikanarvaez5027 Oh my God, is that why Angus chose the name Debbie for them?! I've known about the term "debutante" for a while, but I never made the connection.
@@yggdrasil2 Hey we learn in our own pace
I think it more of milo hearing pickles say “ oh god” over and over .
But yeah who know parents going at it like rabbits would lullaby a child to sleep
this show would always pop up super late in the night when I would stay up late as a kid watching family guy and honestly I would get so excited when I saw it coming up in the menu guide, just a funny show overall and I loved watching it 🤧🤧
I remember watching this show at the wrong age and I still love it
I love her
How could you not? :)
I love Pickles, she does the best job embodying the positive aspects of my alcoholism (and a few of the bad ones).
That aside, I'd like to point out at 2:17 that a mai tai is decidedly _not_ a martini and you'll have a really miserable evening if you ever confuse the two.
@@hibryd7481 Thanks for the tip! Btw what are the positive aspects of alcoholism?
@@yggdrasil2 Oh, you know...a sense of levity, a general ambivalence to your condition, etc. I won't lie and say that it doesn't have its uses...but if you don't already drink, I thoroughly don't recommend adopting the habit. It has many unglamourous downsides.
Pickles also smokes; by some miracle I've never smoked myself, but I watched someone dear to me die to that addiction over many years. Life is tough, but if you're able to muddle through it without resorting to drugs, smoking, or alcohol, then I would recommend continuing to do so. They may provide temporary relief but in the long run they're just lateral moves.
I love this dysfunctional yet loving genuine family . The cattiness of Pickles is everything. Self confidence, self love and clever comebacks . Creative as hell too . Able to take it and dish it out . Goals for sure
Pickles oblong seems like the kind of mother who would protect her children especially if she's smashed she still always support her husband and children but she can also discipline her children as well Mrs Oblong seems like that parent who wouldn't care what anyone says about her or think what she says I love pickles Oblong she's one amazing mom and wife
"Mom that's not even the right brand"
"Hey I'm taking a smoke break." Talk about dedication...
I've never heard of this show before this comp, and I'm in love

She's such a good mother yet such a bad one.But she's really sweet

I still watch this show 😊
The way Pickles sleeps in the first scene is such a mood.
I totally forgot this show existed, and now im really liking it.
Hmmm. I saw this on adult swim a lot. I occasionally forget its a show but every now and again I quote it. glad to see others enjoyed it.
You know, despite being an alcholic
She's actually a good mother, not the best mother but shes not an awful mother
10:46 I love how nice Pickles is to Milo's friends
She was low key a friend growing ups mom. Loving, willing to go to bat, mildly morally unsound but still the only stable parent in the friend group.
Kinda funny how there's multiple adult swim shows with alcoholic characters named pickles
I love this show so much! Got me through some of the worst times of my life.
i like how pickles oblong has the same voice actor as kim possible's mom
“And Bob, if I don’t make it I want you to be buried alive with me” I fucking love that line 😭😭😭
i love that while cleaning dishes she just scrapes the food off and puts it back in the cabinet without washing.
Never seen this show but I've decided I love this character
I'd highly recommend it, I think it's available on Amazon streaming in the US. And Pickles is easily my favourite character in the whole show so you get no arguments from me.
This show had the greatest comedic timing, and the best voice actors.
I love how Pickles interacts with Hills crew. She is confident in her choice and her self-esteem isn't compromised by their picking.
