Thanks, a lot of people laugh at my wooly buggers until they try them. I have been over tying the hackle and making the tail longer(not quite that long) for a long time. When I first give them to someone they think I am a beginner and don't know the hackle sizes and what not, so they try to school me. Then I let them fish them and they change their minds. I have also made hackles with split thread and long ostrich herl. Try that it is amazing. All the best and thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean

+Sean Mooney as I wrote about in my blog post on the fly. I had to come to the same realization myself. Sometimes conventional isn't always the best route. Thanks for the comment.

Hey Devin. I noticed you said you tied this fly with a tungsten bead. It used to be, and still largely is, standard practice among most competition anglers to stick to minimally weighted flies with sinking lines in order to avoid discrepancies in sink rates between the fly and fly line. But I feel like over the past few years, anglers have been incorporating tungsten flies more and more into their stillwater fishing, largely because of their additional action. I'd like to hear how you approach choosing tungsten v brass on stillwaters and in what situations you employ them.

+Tommy Archibald your question is a good one. I use both tungsten and brass beads for my stillwater flies. Sometimes my choice is just the result of trying both or changing based on what my fishing partner is finding. While a discrepancy between the sink rate of the fly and line and a dulling of strike detection is a possibility, I appreciate being able to use tungsten or brass beads to achieve "in between sink rates". For example if I'm fishing a di3 line and want to get a little deeper, but not quite to the di5 level, then I will add one or two tungsten flies or vice versa. I also appreciate the jigging action of tungsten flies, especially on floating or shallow sinking lines where the angle will be steep between the fly and fly line and the jigging action will be accentuated.

    Hey Devin,
The videos and your two movies have been super helpful, planning on getting the book. I was wondering what your other confidence streamers and dries are for the euro rig?
    Regards
    Ryan

      Ryan,
There is a chapter at the end of the book with my confidence flies including dries and streamers.

What other color combinations could you tie this in?

Your imagination is the limit. I've done olive, brown, purple, tan, yellow, and white tails with lots of different chenille colors in the front.
