- Day 2 of my 3 day Bikepacking Cycling & Wild camping Trip from Northern Ireland to Islay and Jura in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland. - Watch Part 1 here - • Bikepacking Scotland -...
On this day of the trip we had quite a few changes to our plans. The Jura distillery was closed, and the Jura fell race was taking place, so we chose not to visit Craighouse. So we got the Ferry back from Feolin to Port Askaig, and cycled to Bunnahabhain Whisky Distillery. We had a tour and a tasting while we sat out some rain. We headed for lunch at the Ballygrant Inn, only to find it was closed, so went further down the road to Craigard Kitchen. From there it was on to Port Charlotte, a quick stop at the Port Charlotte Hotel and Bar for a pint of Islay Ales, then we took the back roads, farm tracks, gravel paths and sand dunes through Kilchiaran, finishing up for the nights camping at Machir Bay, near Kilchoman.

Quality vlog mate, throughly enjoyed watching your adventure.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed! Make sure to check out the other videos in this trip too!
Still can’t believe neither of us came off going down that hill 😂
Yea I know, it’s obvious in the video I was taking it carefully, you were somewhat more cavalier 😂
Thought I'd quickly skip through this vlog but ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Excellent, well presented Connor😊
Ahh thanks! That means a lot! Especially as it’s like 40 minutes long! I really struggled to keep it any shorter 😂
Another cracking video. Got a laugh when you said Stephen was taking his drone for a walk on the beach. Have you a link to the third video?
Of course - sorry I forgot to add it to the description....

I wish sometimes I can join to your rides😊
Look up, 'Connect Cycling' If you are ever in Northern Ireland (Not sure where you are based), and fancy joining a Saturday club ride with us - that's road riding though, not bikepacking :)
The few cycle paths I’ve seen in Northern Ireland have looked okay.
There are a couple of decent ones, but not loads, and quite of they are just a white line separated lane, rather than fully separated like this, which isn’t great for safety, and they end up being full of parked cars, vans, lorries etc, or they aren’t swept so are full of road debris.
Active travel and cycling is just not a priority for local government here unfortunately
@@connormcc I’ve only seen the likes of the one from Belfast up to the likes of Carrickfergus and Larne. I’m in Ayrshire and down the coast they had a cycle path that was fine and separated by grass and a kerb. Anyway the widened it which was great as it’s a shared path so nice and wide. Anyway came along it the other day and it’s practically a car park! Cars, Motorhomes etc. it needs some posts put in but of course then drivers would have to walk to the beach. What a horror, it’s a bit like all those folk you see with Motorhome and bikes on the back but the drive into towns lol. Now I’m not having a pop because I am a driver and have a Motorhome but an also a disabled cyclist so where I can’t walk I cycle.
There are some good paths that do take you totally away from the main roads in Scotland though there is a good path up the side of the A9 and really not that hard to make and separated by a barrier.
@@SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636 Yea, it's a shame, I wish it was more prioritised, but the flip side is, the bike paths etc, when they are good are great for leisure cyclists, families, general casual active travel etc, but are not suitable for say a road cycling club - especially if it is a shared used path - so when I'm with the road cycling club we will almost always be on the road.
I'm actually cycling from Belfast to Glasgow in August to go and watch the Cycling world champs, but I'm getting the train from Stranraer to Ayr, as the road from Cairnryan to Ayr looks extremely unsafe to cycle on
@@connormcc you could cycle from Cairnryan if you went to Stranraer then down to Glenluce, New Luce to Barrhill and then Barr, Crosshill, Maybole, Ayr then take the NCR7. All quiet roads and good cycling.
I do get your point with shared paths and like you I do prefer roads on my road bike though it’s done quite a few gravel routes lol.
I’ll be avoiding UCI this time as for me I enjoyed it too much in 2019 so do t think it will be the same even though it’s on my doorstep. Shall hopefully be away doing my own thing.
@SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636 yea I looked at that but was gonna be a seriously long detour 😂
I loved visiting Harrogate in 2019 so am excited for Glasgow in August
