    So 29 spills in 65 years isn’t to much that’s roughly 1 spill every 2.2 years 21:45

Once a habitat is ruined by toxic spills, it can never be fully restored. Sure you can bring it back a little bit, but it will never be as it was before the spill. One spill in almost 2.2 years is devastating to the habitat and people it affects.

If the pipeline needs to be replaced, replace it. Move it out of the lake. Route it entirely through Canada and Michigan, Ohio and the others can get their own oil.

I'm a conservative, and I support oil, but I do not want that thing opening up in my steelhead water. Keep it out of the great lakes. And I live In kzoo, that river was already fucked, but it was getting better. The lines are just cheaper, period, keep them out of water.

@Stick 'o Butter If this video makes you angry, THEN CALL MICHIGAN'S STUPID GOVERNOR AND ATTORNEY GENERAL and tell them to QUIT TRYING TO STOP THE GREAT LAKES TUNNEL PROJECT which will remove the line 5 pipeline OUT of the GREAT LAKES forever and house it inside a concrete tunnel 100' below the bottom of the Straits. The current pipeline is a ticking time bomb, that's why Enbridge WANTS to put a new one in a tunnel but Gretchen and Dana would rather have a oil spill (JUST LIKE THEIR MIDLAND DAM FAILURE) because they are doing everything they can to stop it. Call their incompetence out immediately if you ACTUALLY care about the Great Lakes

It's hard to trust a company that has had around 30 spills across line 5... I mean listen to the Enbridge employee say that line 5 under the straits is like new 65 years later which is why it has never had a spill and then brush off the other spills by saying the pipeline is 65 years old. What is it then? Is the pipeline too old or is it good?

Everyone needs to try living without NG or Oil. How would people heat their homes? wood? These people have no problem driving cars, flying, wearing clothes and using products made from oil by products. Yes there will be accidents, as there is with all new technology. We learn and move on.That's progress.

I think this pipeline is like a break line in your car. The outside is rotting away and the inside is protected by the oil, so the pipe gets thinner and thinner until you are pumping millions of gal.s a day through a tinfoil pipe, and I mean Tinfoil ! In other countries people get put in jail for spills like this....But not in the Great USA.

As a certified application coating specialist there is not such thing as a coating that prevents corrosion unless you delete natural accruing elements in which you cannot.. paint jobs typically last 20 years .. yes there are federal and state standards that based on history and studies how too apply paints too slow corrosion but there is no such thing as stopping it hint why an industrial painter has a job for a life time ... I can only hope that greed by a billion dollar company when not if a leak does spring that federal prosecution is swift and harsh for destroying the beauty great lakes .. most enbridge paint applicators are labors untrained and not certified by the state standards CAS too even apply coating and yet most inspectors for enbrigde for paint application don't even get out of there trucks too inspect the applicator is doing there job correctly . I know from experience.. it may create job it may help transport natural resources quicker but is it safer for our natural environment in which people depend on when jobs are preformed incorrectly ? Yes you can sue can give prison time but in the end the damage is done best advise is too not do it period

  • @Doormanswift

This pipeline delivers 22.68 million gallons of oil per day. A transport truck holds 8000 gallons of oil so it would take 2835 trucks per day to deliver the same amount of oil. That many trucks would have even more serious environmental consequences.
This is not about environmental concerns. This is about activists who don't like us using oil and attempting to shut it down at any cost. Complete disregard to environment and economic concerns.
The easy fix here is to use third party inspectors to insure the proper maintenance of the line. When my furnace is not running properly I don't just shut it off. That would be stupid. I have it fixed.

The alternative should be easily obtained at this point with the amount of coal fired power generation plants that have been closed down within the last decade, rail should be an option,
I would think, as the lines are not nearly as busy with coal trains. But hey, when your a ceo who just wants to ride the wave of cash flow for a few years before handing the prob off to the next guy- and keep doing this as a company decade after decade instead of investing capital into your infrastructure on your watch to accommodate better decision making in your industry that obviously affects large populations of people- why change right?

A tunnel under Mackinaw would solve the safety risks of the existing pipeline. But Democrats have stonewalled those plans because they’re activists who would rather see the pipeline shut down entirely. And in so doing they allow the existing pipeline to continue to function rather than have us move forward on a safer replacement. If the existing pipeline breaks for any reason, blame the environmental activists like Gretchen Whitmer who stonewalled the tunnel replacement from moving forward. Environmental activism is more important than dealing pragmatically with existing infrastructure 😡

So the discussion uses words like "Tar sands", and juxtaposes a very unfortunate spill that was a tragedy and was cleaned up. Enbridge apparently took responsibility for it and cleaned things up. The current line 5 has been in place since the 50s with not a single problem. It COULD possibly have a problem...but what about the very real shipping accidents by rail, truck, ship - is that better? Or should Canada and the US just move to the 'Green New Deal' and abdicate responsibility for any reliable energy. Where is the move to modernize/replace the pipeline if necessary? OR for that matter, re-route the pipeline to be kept entirely in Canada?

  • @bartbley1269

Yes they all lie . so get them going on the tunnel . get it done the line is old get it done .before it becomes a problem Then find out the engineered life span . if a new line is needed build it . As the tunnel is engineered another line could be dragged through if the new ones life span ends
