We see a LOT of this on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario as well. The beaches around Crystal Beach (near Fort Erie) are continually washing away. A lot of homeowners with properties on the beach are really starting to worry about lake levels.
On the "cottages" falling into the lake: Ain't no poor people there. That's not to say that some people didn't invest their life savings into living on the dune top, but there's no excuse for them expecting welfare when their investment doesn't pan out. Actual poor people living well below the poverty line aren't allowed to have $5,000 in assets to receive welfare assistance of any kind. There's no reason to give the more well-to-do property owners welfare without requiring them to give up all assets over $5,000. That woman talking about them not knowing if they'll get anything really highlights the greed of the affluent at the expense of the poor.

Would it not be helpful to put the fish town shanty buildings on floating platforms that can go up and down with the water levels?
Like a houseboat ?

On the oil spill clean up research: Regulations prevent replacement of the bitumen pipelines, thereby giving whiners something to whine about.
