Open windows with the key fob again! Mine worked when new, then intermittently and finally stopped after 5 years or so.

Replying to a six year old video but the fix did work perfectly, thanks!
Just a note, when putting the assembly back in the car make absolutely sure that the shaft of the barrel lock makes it into the receptacle in the door. It is possible to reassemble it with the shaft out of place which renders the emergency key useless and you'll be stuck out of the car when your battery dies. I've checked mine after first time assembling it and had to correct it, it can be really fiddly but very well worth the effort.
Just found this video and fixed my C230K within an hour. Thanks for posting this easily followed fix, which gives a really useful feature back for no money. You Sir, are a star.
Thank you so much. Dealer asked for $ 420 for a new door handle. Showed this to my local Mercedes garage (not the dealership ) and my 2011 SL 550 is now back as new. They actually thanked me for the tutorial, modest smile, and told me that there was no need for the drimel as the sensor twists out free. Score!!
Thanks for sharing your experience bud. That's awesome. And I've heard some models have slight variations. Enjoy the summer feature...el Nino !!!
unless that was a typo and you meant 2001, yours is the latest model I've heard of with the issue. And really, $420 bucks! It's like they pick that number as an inside joke...you have to be high to willingly pay it.
+mugs132. No typo Mugs. And my name is Gina. I knew I could maybe fix it myself but I was worried I might break a finger nail. Final cost was $ 120. No regrets, they treat me like royalty.
Many thanks for this video - just bought a W211 E55 yesterday with a non-working summer opening - followed your tutorial here and now it's working great!
YOU ARE GOD! Just watched literally only 2 of your videos and you answered all of my questions on fixings things that I have ever had on my car. Same 2004 but in silver. Incredible. I have searched so many forums on this and you are the only one to solve the problem. Legit thank you.
Just completed this fix on my '06 e320 CDI. took all of 30 minutes. Thank you!
Brilliant!!!! 2008 BLUETEC E320. Soldered the 2 joints and summer feature is back!! And I bought a new handle- so the keyless go feature works again too. Love you bud!
Thank you so much! I used a fine hand saw between the sensor and the lock body to remove the metal hook (it's very soft material). For the epoxy I heated a knife tip with a lighter. Soldering iron was $2,5 and may not work again LOL. The function worked from the first time and I'm not even good at stuff like this. Cheers from Bulgaria
Cheers!!!
Thanks so much for this video! I just did this on both doors on my 2002 C32 AMG (same door mechanisms as the base C320, I assume). I chanced upon your video while investigating other issues and discovered that the convenience feature no longer worked (it did work in the past). Took about an hour to do both doors. One minor update: the IR Receiver on the passenger side is attached to the cover plate with a simple clip that is easily removed with a small screwdriver or knife blade, so no metal-cutting is required. Since there is no mechanical key option on the passenger side, it is a much simpler mechanism than the driver side. Other than that, the rest of your video tutorial is spot on. BTW, I re-sealed the IR receiver circuit board with a bit of RTV silicone since that is what I had on hand.
Thank you for this tutorial. I just did the repair. The three solder joints were the culprit on mine. Serious quality control issue on such a nice car.
Bro, thank you so much for putting this video up! I did exactly as you did to fix my sensor after finding out that a replacement sensor costs usd250 in my country! All it took was some elbow grease, a torx20 bit, a mini saw, some solder and solder gun, a lighter and xacto knife, and plenty of expletives when I tore door seal. Otherwise, my summer window function works again.
Awesome video, so informative. Thanks for posting! You're right, why pay $500 and get the same defective part? Love it when the little people figure it out. Power to the people!
Awesome!! Mine never worked till now! Great fix. Thank you!
Just done this repair on a C209 CLK. Works perfectly. One point was that I could not get the lock back through the orifice in the door with the plastic tie as there was not enough space. Instead I have wire locked it with some gardening wire instead which should hold it in place. Thanks for the really great video.
Just pulled the car out of storage for the summer. Guess what? The fix still works perfectly!! Good luck everyone and enjoy getting this feature back. -mugs
Dude, this was brilliant! 5 Star Repair!
Such a great hack!!! Thank you, took 15min fix, superb! Now if someone could find a hack to keep the air recyling on all the time...
Followed your video instructions. IT WORKED !! Thanks a million. Now, about my driver door master window switches..
Haha. Same here with my driver's side window on a w220
Omg amazing. Thank you so much. Took 30 mins start to finish. My own deviations from your guidance would be the snapping off of the hook with a pair of pliers rather than a dremmel, a dab of Vaseline on the exposed two solder joints and as has been said even a small zip tie wouldn’t pass through the aperture simply wound some electrical tape but the receiver is in tight regardless . Nice one👍
Thanks brother. Have a 2008 E350 and wasn’t working! Followed your video verbatim and they now work perfectly! Thanks again!
Finally ... a solution to the b1102 b1103 codes on my Benz, another little project for the winter. Great video, and THANKS!!
Followed your video on my W209 CLK 2009 and it worked great just doing the first 2 connections........Brilliant........ Thank you :)
Thanks dude.
Straight on, dry solder was the problem.
It worked !!
Thank you very much.
My car is 2004 W220 .
I'm concerning to repair this more than 2 years.
There have been no effective information for this.
You are genius !
Thanks dude. Feels great getting this feature back, and doing it yourself. And really, there's nothing to lose if it's stopped working.
Right side sensor soon worked. Left side sensor didn't work at first. But I remembered your suggestion of soldering 2 seconds .
2 seconds soldering was the key point.
Any way I appreciated your explanation .m(_ _)m
Thanks for the fix ... worked perfectly on my 2002 Mercedes C240 Base Model . I would be real careful using a heat gun as you may heat up areas you don't want melted. I used a razor blade and small screwdriver to remove the epoxy and that worked just fine. Now I can open and close my windows and sunroof from outside the car.
You legend!!! just done this on my CLS, exactly as you described from start to finish took all of 40mins. Top man!!!
Drove mine last night and this fix still works years later. Thanks bud.
2004 CLK500 Cabriolet...Worked like a charm. Thanks!
It works now on my w203 2001. Thank you so much for the great video.
Tackled it today. It worked , to the book. Great fix well done , great instructions. Worth the advert 😆
Just done mine now opens from about 5 meters away. I could actually see the gap in the solder , thanks for the vid very informative.
you made my day!!! works great. did not even use a heatgun, just a sharp knive.
100% WORKS THANKS
only took 40 mins great video
Wow that is awesome thank you so much for posting it. Simple and too the point. If you were in my town I would buy you a beer.
i just want to say i watched your video on this topic and i just did what u said to do and it works perfectly fine thanks for sharing this video it saved me 5 hundred dollars easy
Maybe the sunroof sensor is broken
Great work ,,here's a tip , rotate the lock barrel away from the tang then you won't need to cut it off and use a zip tie.
I haven’t even attempted it yet but what a great video. Top job ! Finally I’m gonna fix it 👍
I got a 2005 c230 and it only work once a while. It's good to know where the problem came from...
Great video
Great DIY, thank you !
Brilliant. Well done. Thank you.
very good work and explanation...
job done on my mercedes and everything works good now
good job. I will be tackling this tomorrow on my c320.
I thought it was the plastic in front of the IR receiver being worn by the sun too much, since it sporadically worked.
Then I saw this movie, since I'm on holiday I decided to try this.
I don't have that many tools handy here, so I used some wire-cutters to remove the big metal bracket instead of the dremel, was easy enough.
For the industrial hair-dryer part I just used a lighter on a cutter knife (not directly on the receiver).
For the soldering, just heating up the existing solder was enough, but I added a little just to be sure. I used some bathroom silicone to seal the thing again.
The hardest part was locating the damn torx screw ^_^ the few times.
Thanks for the great video mugs132. This helped a lot.
TBH I think MBenz should be a little bit more customer friendly when it comes to these kind of things.
We had a broken plastic and some broken leds of the indicator in the read view mirror, the official dealer wanted to charge us over €500 just for the part, cause they had to replace the whole mirror(BS btw), then paint it the right colour etc, would've been freakishly expensive.
I googled the plastic led part , it was €35 delivered the next day and it was an official MB part.
To assemble I needed a phillips screwdriver and one bigger flat one, took me 10min to repair.
I would've taken me more time to let the MB-dealer do it than fixing this myself, and about €1000 less expensive.
These things are not very customer friendly IMO.
I didn't know my car has this feature. That's amazing. How I wish you live near Sacramento so I can just bring my car to you. :)
Great video works great 10 min repair
Thank you for a very instructive video, it works perfect!
Just a few comments:
I used a hacksaw blade to do the cutting, as I don’t have a Dremel.
I only removed the epoxy near the soldering points and sealed the unit with new epoxy afterwards.
But again, you did an excellent job!
i dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Declan David Instablaster =)
@Ricky Dominik Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi I also had a problem lifting the windows Yesterday I did exactly what you did it work like new thanks to Ttoh
Muchísimas gracias. Gracias a tu tutorial he podido ver que el cable se había soltado, lo he vuelto a conectar y ha vuelto funcionar.
Many thanks. Thanks to your tutorial I could see that the cable had come loose, I have reconnected it and it has worked again.
Great idea, but mine Is intermittent. I think it has to do with the sensor “window” on the handle. I notice it works fine indoors(no sunlight) but does not work outdoors where direct/indirect sunlight is involved.
Very cool piece of info. Thanks.
Awesome Video. Very helpful. Thank you
Thank you we waiting more.
Thank you ,,,i just did it last night, amazing,it worked out,,,thanks alot !!!
Super nice DIY man!!! :) nice to know for when mine stops working. Thanks!
That is a great video. Mine has been broken for years and now I know why. Now I just have to figure out if I actually miss the feature enough to fix it. Thanks.
I will try the same way with my 2004 W220.
You are relly great!!
Thank you very much .
Did it worked buddy?
It's worked on my '00 w203, thank you!!!!!!
Great video, terrific repair 👍 😀 🎵
Man, let me tell you are the best! Cheers!!
Thanks for the video buddy. I have to do this in the following days. 👌
Thanks, that helped for EVERYTHING, even the locking and unlock problem!!!
Thank you very much.
Now all it works.
My car: Mercedes C180 / W203 - 2001
;-)
Thank you very much! It's working very nice! Good method! Thanxxx
Hello, very good tutorial!! I have the same problem, does this repair work on a w211 E-Class?
Dude, your hands grow from the right place. Greetings from Russia, ran to try! =)
Thanks for posting this. Will it help lock and unlock the doors from the distance as well? I have to place the key fob next to the door sensor for it to work. Thanks in advance
worked perfectly thanks!
Worked perfect for me, thank you very very much bro
Thank you ever so much for your very useful video.
Awesome thanks
My key only works at night do you how to fix that issue c230 sport 2006?
U seem to be a smart person, I love your video , its very detailed with a lot of helpful ideas and explanation.
I have the same issue in my 2009 keyless entry E63 , and the unlocking mechanism doesn't work all the time, locking works fine on all 4 doors, but unlocking the driver door is not working all the time ,NOW I haven't tried to fix it yet , but am incouraged now after watching your video . thank you so much.
Do I have to go through some extra steps or be more careful to fix both, the summer feature and keyless unlocking mechanism ?
Thanks bud. I believe the keyless entry issue is completely unrelated to the summer convenience feature issue. Entry is via radio, convenience is via infrared. Google it and check owners forums for possible pattern issues with e class and respective fixes. Good luck.
Hey thanks for the video it worked, i didn't do the bottom three connections, and i was wondering would it work better if i did those bottom three as well.
Great question. If it works after fixing the front two, and you don't notice weak joints in the back three then you are probably fine. But this is why it's good to use the right acrylic sealer like I use in the video...if it stops working you can easily get back in there and re-service it down the road.
Great video
Any ideas on how to fix the keyless entry door sensor or the keyless start button on the gear shift knob of a 2004 e320 w211?
Great Video
Good work
Thanks a lot!!! It works!!
Wow that really worked on my car thanks
Thanks for the great video! My summer unlock and lock feature is intermittent. I have a E550. I bet it's exactly the same thing. Thanks again for making this great video. 👍
YOU - ARE - AMAZING ! Thanks !
(Although i didnt do the repair yet)
Gracias por el vídeo. Me funcionó. Saludos
Thanks mugs123, it totally works!!!
Is there a risk of damage anything and will central locking work with the cylinder removed to lock the door
Thanks a lot.its great....👍👍👍👍👍👍.now its works.
Neat video!!
Wow, just fixed our R171 SLK the same way. Thanks
If you turn the top you don't have to break anything, well at least with my 06 c280 That's all I had to do, no breaking expensive parts, Just twisting the lock column I think I had the key in it, I cant remember, I just know I didn't have to break anything. Looks identical to yours, but could be a slight difference. but either way it was YOUR video that showed me that I could fix it myself without spending $500 Thank you very much!
I can’t get the torx screw to tighten back up when putting it back onto the car. Any advice?
quick question I have a usa w203 left hand drive will a sensor from a uk model fit from a right hand drive
Thank you very much bro...
very nice
Thank you very much bro
My car is a 2003 c240. I'll check out the video on resetting the express windows Thanks Mugs..
koo, gonna do this to my car. Do you have the rear sunshade problem? mines won't roll down after pushing the bottom.
muchas gracias solucionaste mi problema !!
you can just break of the two metal pins with pliers and some force..I did this twice (w203/s203) also you only need to fix the two pins on the PCB which connect the IR receiver. Its the two pins where Mugs132 thumb is at 3:34. That makes things even easier.
Hi, The best ideas that I have noticed was on Volt daddy (i did a google) Probably the most informative info on batteries and this type of thing that I have found.
Great video misterA lot of knowledge there wish more guys would make vids like that before people go and spend a ton of money at the stealership and dont even know what there paying forAgain : great vid. My friend and wish you all the bestP.s. What is your next car youre buying? Cause im buying the same thing so that i dont have to go to stealership to fix it
Really appreciate the nice comments bud. I'm getting one of three cars. My top choice is an old school beetle...aside from self maintenance and small repairs, I can probably sell it for exactly what I pay for it after 10-15 years. So it's like driving a really fun (yet dangerous) car for Free!
Really appreciate your informative video and will try it soon. Re the Beetle! Here in Australia they are going through the roof and Kombi Vans - well let's not go there! Kombis with split windows from a farmyard all rusted out are fetching upwards of $10 - $15K and restored they are getting upwards of $60K with prime examples fetching double that! A VW Beetle or Kombi is a excellent investment for the future!
I have similar problem with my w203. It doesn't want to even open the door, or lock them. And we realise, that in winter it worked and even in the evening, or night too. So this looks like the same kind of problem. Do you think it will work?
Thank you
u good bro...... thanks
Same problem with my w209 MB. It seems to be quite difficult...
