"I wish I knew what she was saying" Girl you would be blessed. The lyrics are as great as her voice!
Who knows I'm still a little girl
Waiting for the school bus, alone
Tired with my socks
Praying low in the corners
For being a bad girl
Maybe the prince became a bore
That lives giving in my bag
Who knows life is not dreaming
I only ask God
A little trickery
I'm a child
And I don't know the truth
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
Silly is not living the reality
And I still have an entire afternoon
I walk the streets
I write a check
I change a place plant
I drive my car
I take my pile
And I still have time to sing
I only ask God
A little trickery
I'm a child
And I don't know the truth
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I walk the streets

[1st part]
What if I'm still a little girl waiting for the school bus by myself?
So tired wearing my knee highs,
And whispering a prayer on the corners
For being a bad girl?
What if the Prince has become boring.
That is always bugging me up.
What if life is not to dream.
[Chorus]
I only ask God a little malandragem***
Cause I'm a child and I dont know the truth.
I'm a poet and haven't learned how to love.
[2nd part]
Bullshit is not living the reality.
And I still have the whole afternoon.
I walk on the streets, I cash a check.
I move a plant to another spot***
I drive my car, drink my booze
And still have time to sing
[Repeat chorus]
[Repeat 2nd part]
[Back to Chorus]
What if I'm still a little girl?
Ps: 1st ***
'Malandragem' is a slang in PT-br that means "to have the insight to identify what is good from what's not. The opposite of ingenuity. Genius. Brains".
2nd ***
Some people say that the part "I cash my check and move a plant to another spot" is related to drugdealing and drug abuse. She ODed in 2000's. "To move a plant" might be "to take weed, roll it and pot it, so changing the natural state of the plant". But only rumors.
Cássia was a master of her craft. She could sing pretty much ANYTHING and her confidence was unparalleled in the world of Brazilian music. She would sing old school samba and Nirvana in the same gig. This album is her MTV Unplugged, and the setlist features Edith Piaf, Beatles, and several Brazilian songwriters. Unfortunately she died the same year it was released (2001).

She was one of a kind! One of the greatest Brazilian singer! Unique!

Lyric:
Maybe I'm just a little girl still
Waiting for the school bus
all alone
Tired wearing my mid-calf socks
Whispening a pray everywhere I go
Just because I am a bad girl
Maybe the prince became a boring one
who keeps annoying me
Maybe living is not dreaming
I just ask God for
a bit of astuteness/malice
Because I am only a kid
and I don't know the truth
I'm a poet
and I have never learnt to love
I'm a poet
I have never learnt to love
Nosense is not to live the reality
And a whole afternoon still remains for me
I walk the streets
I cash a check
I change the place of a plant
I drive my car
Take some drinks
And I still have time
for singing
I just ask God for
a bit of astuteness/malice
Because I am only a kid
and I don't know the truth
I'm a poet
and I have never learnt to love
I'm a poet
I have never learnt to love

@@RenanSantos7 Sim , é do Cazuza .
We Brazilians miss her a lot, Cassia Eller was good at what she did
Cazuza, Cazuza, Cazuza...
Eu daria a vida pra ir num show desse
By the way, that moment at 7:23 in which she mimics a car engine, she’s actually saying “I drive my car”.
kkkk nunca tinha pensado nisso
como eu nunca pensei nisso antes??? kkkkkkk
NO SHIT SHERLOCK?
NOO WAAYY
Wow, I am so glad I watched this one! I'd never heard of Cassia, but I was so impressed and immediately looked her up. How terribly sad that the world lost her at 39. She had an amazing energy. I am going to enjoy listening to her back catalogue, but I'm sad she's no longer with us.
Yes. She gone too early
A voz dessa mulher arrepia até a alma, maravilhosa
Com certeza ♥
E aí a gente ouve o Chico Chico, filho dela, e arrepia de novo. A voz trascendeu até as gerações!
Cassia Eller died in 2001, Beth. Unfortunately, we Brazilians have lost a very strong musical reference! Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful video! A kiss and success to you!
This is not a literal translation, I tried to get some of the meaning from the lyrics and translate it to English:
Maybe I'm still a little girl
Waiting for the school bus... alone
Tired with my school uniform's socks
Praying almost quietly around
For being a bad girl
Maybe the prince became a bore
Who's always hitting my nuts
Maybe life is not about dreaming
I only ask God
A little trickery
Because I'm a child
And I don't know the truth
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
Silly is not living the reality
And I still have an entire afternoon
I walk the streets
I cash a check
I change a plant from its place
I drive my car
I take my booze
And I still have time to sing
To sing
I only ask God
A little trickery
Because I'm a child
And I don't know the truth
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I walk the streets
I cash a check
I change a plant from its place
I drive my car
I take my booze
And I still have time to sing
To sing
I only ask God
A little trickery
Because I'm a child
And I don't know the truth
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love
I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love

A little trickery
Because I'm a child
And I don't know the truth

I only ask God
Maybe I'm still a little girl
correction: I drive my car (huuuummmmmmm) hahahshs
Hahahaha
Very nice translation, kudos. Love the idea of translating "malandragem" as trickery... it's a hard word to translate properly, but here I think that it conveys exactly what it needs to. 👍
However, there are a few small things I'd change, just for clarity's sake:
- "Who's always hitting my nuts" (Que vive dando no meu saco) 🡆 "Who's always hitting _me in the nuts_ ".
- "I only ask God / A little trickery" (Só peço a Deus / Um pouco de malandragem) 🡆 "I only ask God / _For_ a little _bit of_ trickery"
.
- "I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love" (Eu sou um poeta e não aprendi a amar) 🡆 "I'm a poet and didn't learn _how_ to love"
.
- "Silly is not living the reality" (Bobeira é não viver a realidade) 🡆 "Silly is not living reality".
- "I change a plant from its place" (Mudo uma planta de lugar) 🡆 "I _move_ a plant from its _current_ place".
- "I take my booze" (Tomo meu pileque) 🡆 "I _get plastered / smashed / buzzed_ ", the choice of verb depending on how far you want to convey the "pileque" went. 😁
Arrasou! 👏🏻👏🏻
Just gotta explain the "prince" part, that she changed "sapo" (a frog, like in the story where the prince turns into a frog) to "chato" (boring) that many brazilians always tought it was the frog, like the prince has changed to something else... but no, he became a bore, annoying that little girl
It's a nice irony
The moment that you say ''I wish I knew what she was saying'' Cássia Sings: ''I drive my car'' and then she makes an engine sound hahahaha She was just amazing. Cheers from Brazil :D
Cássia: *starts singing*
Beth: *smiles*
Yep. Sounds about right!

Even though these are suggestions, it's so good and refreshening to see an english speaker person who is into music and actually realizes that there's more to music than just what's made in english speaking countries! I get really tired of seeing videos like "top guitar players", "most amazing singers" and stuff alike and they simply IGNORE that there's a WORLD full of people making music, not only a few countries. Keep it coming Beth
You should react to Zé Ramalho - Chão de giz.
Just a suggestion: Zizi Possi, a great Brazilian singer.
Alzira Neves yes!!! Her version of Teresinha is my absolute favourite!
She has to react to MILTON NASCIMENTO and FLÁVIO VENTURINI too! They're amazing brazilian singers!
for more brazilian music!
CASSIA ELLER AND ELIS REGINA PRA ME, ARE THE MOST EXPRESSIVE VOICES IN BRAZIL !! CONGRATULATIONS!!
She said something like "I drive my life, I choice my money and I can sing my song, I'm a poet but don't know how to love, I just prayer for a few trickery" 🤘❤️
Just a tip: It could be better if you lady had some translated lyrics to level up your experience... But coool review and feelings! ^^
@@ems3599 Interpretation is one of the most important parts of music, just having a vocal range is not always enough, after all there are several singers with a great vocal range who cannot sing a song that is pleasant to listen to, not even covers of existing songs, precisely because there does not seem to be feeling in their voice.
Reaction is Cassia Eller music O Segundo Sol.
Eterna cássia! ❤🇧🇷
Cassia is the real deal. I Heard a old tape by her..she was kind of finding her "voice" singing in a really high register. Pitch perfect! Strong at the same time so fragile. RIP Cassia.
Check her performance at Rock in Rio singing "Smells like teen spirit". You're gonna love it.
nope, is terrible
Cazuza wrote this song ❤
❤
7:30 --> She was saying "I drive my car", that sound she makes is like the engine roaring. The next thing she says is "I drink my booze", she's punk AF.
Thumbs up from Brazil. Thank you, very much.
You're right! She is very cool! I love Cassia Eller! ❤
other great brazilian singers for you to take a look at: Cazuza, Renato Russo, Marisa Monte, Maria Bethânia, Elza Soares, Chico Buarque
Caetano Veloso 🤗😉
Clara Nunes
I love you hearing my favorites singers, please react to this amazing voice: Elza Soares - A carne
Just imagine how amazed Beth would have been if she had picked Cássia's version of Smells like teen spirit to make this review. Despite "Malandragem" probably is the tune that Cássia is best known for, it is a song that doens't really do justice to the incredible range and skill she had. For those who haven't seen this classical Rock n Rio performance, look it up. Cássia had an amazing control of her voice and of the crowd. Fantastic performer.
Rs
Deus lhe guarde Cássia!
