    Thanks for all your helpful info Pedro! I always use Plasticover reeds on my alto, mostly because I'm a doubler who can't be keeping
    typical reeds wet often enough. What Legere would you recommend for me, I use #2 Plasticover on a hard-rubber #7 mouthpiece and
    play lots of different styles including "classical"?

    So glad you made a video that you didn't change mouthpieces on! This cements my choice of trying the signature

      Music By Pedro I like dark tone of the classic reed but I think the signature sounds more flexible and warm tone. The signature reed seems to really suit your sound and playing. Thanks

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  7 років тому

      Matthew Taylor the signature does have more flexibility if that's what you're looking for. I did try all cuts and I think the signature is definitely my preferred favorite.

    Studio Cut is available on Alto. The first time I bought the Alto Studio cut was 8+ (guessing...was at least more than 5) years ago and recently purchased more.

    Hey Pedro. I really need to ask this, but the scenario first. So I play saxophone as my first and main instrument. Most of my time is spent on the Alto Saxophone, and I'm in this ensemble with friends for school. We're playing a woodwind ensemble which accepts all instruments, however, the contest we're doing it for says that we have to either all be of the same instrument, or have each part played by a different instrument. It's a trio and we lost our flute player for some unexplained reason. We did have 4 people so now that it's 3 we can still do it. However, it's now of 2 clarinets on the other parts which means I'm going to have to play clarinet for the ensemble. I have had a brief amount of time playing on a clarinet, but I never did anything permanent or technical on it. So my question is, as a natural sax player, how should I approach playing on a clarinet? We do have a couple weeks before a district ensemble contest which is there as practice for the uil ensemble contest, which is in over a month from now.

      This is a great questions, and I'm sorry you're down to such little time to prepare. My approach to playing clarinet is to only bring your finger facility. The embouchure is "slightly" similar but you have to roll a bit less lip and blow in a forward direction while the instrument and mouthpiece points down. I ask people to not think of it as a soprano sax since it isn't. Hope that helps.

    Wich brand would you recommend for subtoning on tenor?

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  7 років тому

      Agustín Ríos hmm. Good question. So for that you probably need something like the studio (if you play tenor).

    does legere work for jazz to?

    • @nickt138
      @nickt138 6 років тому

      might be an old comment but personally i only use the legeres for classical. i still stick with cane vandoren java greens for jazz but Im hoping to try out a legere studio cut for jazz since they market that as their jazz read. you can use these in jazz but I find the sound isn't as good when im playing a more flexible, free blowing reed

    why'd you use a generic mpc and not your regular setup?

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  7 років тому +1

      +Sunhat Grooves because it's not biased to show how the mouthpiece sounds. I did a video comparison a while back and people wanted me to not switch the mouthpiece so I wanted to make sure that didn't happen on this one. This way the reed does all the performance, not the mouthpiece. I've got mouthpieces coming soon, so stay tuned! :)
