Aw man, mountain bikes has changed a lot from the mid 80's to the early 90’s, I still have my MONGOOSE: JOHN TOMAC SIGNATURE (1988 model) and now I want to make a comeback. And further more this beats watching regular TV, Cable and Streaming especially watching current events ( like your local news).
Just wow! You keep getting better Scotty! Absolute sick shots and editing, not to mention you’re riding which has always been a pleasure to watch. Keep up the good work 😎 Makes me wanna go to Scotland for some MTB!..
Good question. It’s a little different. I wouldn’t say I missed the extra travel. It sits right between the previous generation Genius and the current Ransom! Ransom is a little more on the aggressive side perhaps but not sure if that’s also down to the beefier build kit! The updated geometry deffo makes the Genius favourable…
Hey, I have a Scott spark rc 2018. I’m wanting to upgrade to a genius. I know it’s a bit heavier but how do you think it climbs compared to the spark. Great video to!!
Good question! It’s obviously slightly slower, the weight is one thing but it’s really not that much. It’s obviously has a slightly slacker head angle and seat angle which affects climbing position. If you’re looking for something more aggressive then go for it and you won’t be disappointed. If you fancy something in between then check out the Spark ST, it’s a 120mm chassis with a 140mm fork and climbs fast and is still a lotta fun on the downs!
Hey Scotty. How does the new genius feel. I rode the old spark and now have the new spark and find that it feels really poppy and playful. Is the genius the same. I work in a bike shop here in Australia but at the moment we can’t get our hands on one yet.
It’s a really fun ride, it’s playful and poppy yet so planted and balanced. If you imagine a bigger Spark with more capabilities… I’d put it between the previous generation of Genius and Ransom yet it’s light enough to pedal back up the hill!
@@ScottyLaughland yeah I just got it recently, for the price of the bike brand new the components seem a little poor, all Shimano deor stuff, brakes too, a old school 3x9 drivetrain. Going to swap to a 1x11 soon, I saw that some bikes came with a 11 speed cassette in the rear so I know that will fit. I guess the price was so high cause it was a carbon fiber frame, or a carbon front triangle and aluminum rear triangle
Nice riding and filming! I have the 2020 Genius, and would love to know how “old” and new compare: I like my Genius as it’s great for riding in the Alps and the Black Forrest where I live. But rougher trails like in Finale Ligure bring it to its limits. I also rode a few other bikes like the (2022) Trek Fuel EX and Slash, and Propain‘s Hugene. Those all felt somewhat less plush, more agile and stable than my 2020 Genius. So, how would you compare the 2023 Genius to the predecessor frame in terms of plushness/agility/“bouncyness“? And would you ride it in Finale? ;-) Cheers :)
Thanks Stefan! Good question… Compared to the previous generation it’s plusher, more capable, comfier and confidence inspiring. It’s super playful, poppy and is a fun ride… If I was going to Finale this would 100% be my choice. I can’t make a comparison to other brands but from my experience and comparing it, it feels more like the descent a Ransom offers but with the climbing capability of a Spark. I’d imagine you’ll see some riders racing these at the Enduro’s next year.
@@ScottyLaughland Thanks a bunch! Plush and poppy at the same time do sound interesting! But your response definitely helps with my decision. I'll be in Scotland next Summer and could give you my own verdict in person then ;-)
How many sugar in your café ?????? Lol 🤣🤣🤣 Super video, super bike, super trails ,super ride and rider See you soon on a next vidéo, Scotty the cafe man 👍👍👍👍👍
What do you think of the all-new SCOTT Genius? Do you have any more questions on it?
Forgot it was a bike review after the first minute, stunning cinematic shots! Keep up the solid content Scott!
Cheers Ryan! Tried to make it less of review and more just a fun riding video backing up what I was saying… Stoked you enjoyed it!!
Agreed, a feast for the eyes

Epic camera work 🔥🔥
Great vid Scotty! Keep it up.
Thanks Richard!
No questions on the Scott, but that MM Ultra Soft up front is UNOBTAINIUM at the moment ! Great Vid!!!
I'm running both soft Magic Mary and Big Betty front and rear!
@@ScottyLaughland I had one Ultra Soft MM to test, and it was a great compound top front compared to the soft compound.
Some nice shots with that drone!
Thanks man, all credit to Seb! He’s a ninja with it.
What is even more amazing then the capabilities of this beauty of a bike and its price tag are the Scottish trails.
I'll be honest they are good! Goes well with the bike...
Beautiful 🎉🎉🎉🎉
bike looks rad. video is cool. good work
Thank you! 🙌
Nice
Thanks man!
Nice video. I'm 181, you would have gone for a medium then?
Seriously? Scotty on a Scott genius in Scotland? That's pretty funny. Awesome video man.
Genius you could say 🤷♂️🤦♂️
How would you describe the genius if you compare it to the 2022 Scott Ransom? Do you miss the 10mm of travel on the front and the 20mm on the back?

Great Video 👌 Nicely done.
Im 184 with 89cm Leg Length. Should i get an L or XL. I did a short ride, but im not really sure
Thank you! I’m 189cm and ride a L and love it. It’s really playful so you know what my recommendation is going to be…
@@ScottyLaughland Thank you so much. Then I will go for an Size L as well
How manoeuvrable feels the Genius?
Scotty Laughland on a Scott in Scotland that's the best combination👍
It’s super manoeuvrable and is so planted! I’ve been loving this bike since I got it… it‘a the new go to!
@@ScottyLaughland
Thank you Scotty.
