      The Vivos are nice and I almost got them to test out but they are up there in price. I'm sure in quality too but the looks are what detoured me from it. Merrell just has a sweet spot in my heart lol. Maybe in the future I'll test ad compare the Vivo Primus 3 with these or by then the Vapor Glove 6s. Who knows.

      I had to get a different order (again) in black because it seems like the first wave of boxes/shoes were defective. The 3rd pair does fit PERFECTLY! Good thing I was stubborn in getting them again.

      For the VG5? It's non existent. At least for me. It also depends on how you tie them too. VG2 has more support than the 5s I think.

    Thanks for the best & most-recent review on the Vapor Glove 5s, as well as the important quality control update on the black version.
    I've been wearing the VG4's since the beginning of the year, and absolutely love them, even though they're a tad over-sized. I get a 13 in everything, but the Merrell's slop around a bit with more than a thumbs width of room in front of the big toe. I should've got the 12.5 instead. A shame then that the VG5's don't have a size 12.5 option (yet?), so my next pair of barefoot shoes will either be next year's VG6's or Vivo Primus Lite III's (at double the cost). Thanks!

    The difference in fit between the green and the black pairs is very off-putting. I have numerous pairs of Vapour Glove 4 and they were always consistent in fit until the new solid colour versions arrived and they were, in my experience, terrible. Huge, measurable (with a tape measure!) differences between left and right shoes and a totally different fit to the earlier VG4. I came to the conclusion that Merrell were having some quality control issues and I stopped buying VG4, hoping that the new VG5 would be better in this regard. Your review tells a different story and I am hugely disappointed.

    I got a black pair on sale two weeks ago. This is my first pair of barefoot shoes, and they rock. Better posture, core activity, and the pain in my knees is becoming a memory. Doing regular 5-mile walks on concrete and asphalt.
    Can't believe I was able to transition so fast, I'm late 50s with cranky knees, fit from bicycling and advanced yoga. With regard to the latter, I'm already seeing improvements in my practice that I'm certain are the product of my new barefoot walking regimen.
    Overall a good review. Can you recommend anything similar that would be better suited to Northeast US winter (water resistance, etc). Thanks

    • @GabeCuello
      @GabeCuello  Рік тому +1

      That's awesome that they are working well for you! I think walking barefoot was how we were always supposed to walk, but for years, shoe companies just kept trying to make our feet "comfortable" when instead it made our foot mechanics worse.
      I have been wearing the newest model (Vapor Glove 6) and Xero HFS for a while now. I really like them.
      I'll be doing a review soon on those two.

      @@mjt708 Just wanted to chime in to say that I'm also sad to see that there's currently no 12.5 size option for the VG5's like there is with the VG4s. I wear a size 13 in just about everything, and so bought the size 13 VG4's earlier this year, but they were a tad over-sized like yours. Kept them anyway, but 12.5 would've been a better fit.

    thanks this was really helpful! I am considering looking at this since these are the only barefoot shoes I can find locally (Canada). Would you say the size is similar to regular shoes? For example, I'm an 11 US in most shoes, would the merrell size be the same?

    • @GabeCuello
      @GabeCuello  Рік тому +1

      Yes and no. Or at least I wouldn't recommend your standard size.
      Going barefoot (what I have found) has allowed my feet to expand. Basically, they will grow a little and add to your toes splaying more.
      Next reason is that these shoes do fit true to size for most people, however, the tip of these shoes
      have a solid bumper (for protection) and if your toes keep bumping into them, you will experience a great deal of discomfort.
      I opted for xeros HFS since these vapor glove shoes are not available in 12s. I was a 10.5 haha. So, yea your feet will need some room.
      Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.

      I disagree. Disappointed with the Vivos I tried ( Primus Lite, Trail, Geo court). Even the lites aren’t minimalist enough.
      Vibram FF are honestly the best (love running in my khaki v-treks) with Merrell Vapor Gloves next.

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 3 роки тому +3

      @@adimperial Interesting. Have you worn the Primus Lite III? I get more ground feel from that than any Merrell I've worn - 3mm sole with no real "lugs" to speak in the traditional sense. I've the first version of the Trail FG and I'd have agreed with you at first, but the trade-off is durability and they softened in a huge way in a short break-in time. Both have as wide or wider toe-box, or at least the taper begins later so they may just feel wider for my short toes. And both are far, far better at lateral movement and staying put/planted on my feet. I haven't worn the Geo Courts. I don't have any experience with earlier version fo the Primus Lites, just the III version.
      Like any shoe, find what feels good for you eh? I've never gotten on with Vibrams 5-fingers, not even a little... My toes are too short I think. They just never felt right. But barefoot sandals I can get behind (or above). Luna and Bedrocks I adore.

    • @adimperial
      @adimperial 3 роки тому +3

      @@therealchickentender I had the Primus Lite II actually. I have a very sensitive foot from a previous foot injury and only barefoot shoes (and only certain barefoot shoes) work for me. Any Fivefinger shoe works and Vapor Glove 4 and now 5. Vivobarefoot did not unfortunately. The Primus Lites did have great ground feel especially when I removed the insoles. But too much rubber material around the sides and heel area like a normal shoe which irritated my foot. I need a more sock like feel with minimal material.
      But I’m not brave enough to wear VFF in public so Vapor Gloves are my go to. These 5’s look soo much better than the 4’s so I’m happy

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 3 роки тому +3

      @@adimperial Yeah these new Vapors look great - if I hadn't *just* picked up three other pairs of Vivos I'd give them a go. I definitely understand the midfoot complaint about Primus, especially the earlier Trail FG I have and honestly I nearly sent them back but lacing them loose and wearing them for a week helped immeasurably - they broke in a great deal. The Lite IIIs though are much, MUCH more supple in those area - feels like a different material this model, and they have far more give in every way; I loved them instantly.
      My absolute favorite shoe though is also a Vivobarefoot and the only one I had from them or 2 years - the Gobi II ankle boot. Obviously not a workout/training shoe, but I don't think I've ever had a shoe more comfortable or durable. The leather is crazy supple immediately and very strong ... but it is still leather so I don't wear them much in summer months. But each time I put those on it's like a sigh of relief! :D The Primus Lite III is similar, and so is my original pair of Merrell Trail Glove version 2 (they've ruined the TG as far as I'm concerned in recent models).
      K.... I've barefoot rambled enough.

    • @GabeCuello
      @GabeCuello  3 роки тому +2

      Opinion: yes. Objectively speaking: it takes time to get use to and become efficient in wearing these.
      Meaning, muscles, tendons, and even bone density will need time to adapt, recover, and grow stronger. I have a pretty bad scar on my ankle and had limited mobility. It was pretty sensitive at first and stepping over every pebble was annoying and painful but over time, your feet get use to it.
      Wearing barefoot shoes for daily walks and now running has greatly improved all aspects of my physical performances. Again, in my opinion, wear them. Have comfy shoes around though to ensure recovery if your feet are sore. If you can afford it, get any comfy or cushioned shoe that is zero drop (0mm).
      Most shoes are heavily padded and narrow. This pampers and deconditions our feet. I use to praise Under Armour Hover Sonic 1-3 shoes but man, it was so high up off the ground that my ankle would always roll or my foot strike while running would be on the outer sides of my feet causing poor form and jacking up my metatarsals.
      That's why I transitioned to these types of shoes.
      I hope this helps and I also hope you have some positive experiences with your feet gains. If interested, stay tuned for my upcoming Xero shoe review. I'm testing it aggressively on all types of terrain and will share my overall experiences.

    • @GabeCuello
      @GabeCuello  3 роки тому +1

      I have actually just ordered a size 11.5 (original 10.5 wearer) and reasons being that my feet (I believe) have "grown" due to daily barefoot shoe wearing and because the toes kept bumping on the protective TPU when running and caused soreness/pain.
      Once I get them, I will review the shoes again for an update on how they have been performing. The size 11s were perfect at first but then I still kept bumping my toes. Not as bad as the 10.5 but still, after 4 miles running, that type of pain is not worth running with.

    Thanks for the vid. Any chance these are wider than the 4s? I have a couple pairs of worn 3s and have really enjoyed them. However, the 4s are much narrower and not really the right shape for a 'barefoot' shoe, had to return them. A little concerned about the thicker sole, but these look good, hoping they opened the forefoot and toe box back up when compared to the 4s.

    • @GabeCuello
      @GabeCuello  3 роки тому +1

      Oo, that's a tough one. I find that they tried to make it the same (size and width wise) but the design and materials used for these new ones make it feel much different than the 4s.
      Meaning it's only "wider" if you 1) get the proper size for your foot structure and 2) if you don't tie the shoes front loops too tight. The design of the laces is quite interesting. It takes getting use to and adjusting it based on activities can help with fit.
      In my opinion, the 4s feel great for my lean/boney foot structure. These new ones are great too but in their own way, especially on looks.
      However, I had to re-order a 3rd pair (now using a size 11) to not feel the toes bump as much. I started runningon them and that's when it became a problem.
      My suggestion, get your typical size and one over to try out. I know it doesn't directly answer your question, but like all things I talk about here on this channel; try it out.
      Let me know if it worked/didn't work out.

      Yea, I'd be safe to get a 1/2 size bigger. Mainly because you have a wide foot & (ultimately) these shoes toe bumpers are rigid and can cause bruising if constantly being pressed on.
      Additionally, after wearing these and other barefoot shoes, my feet grew or splays greater now, so I wear a 12 now. From a 10.5/11 to now a 12!! I know, that's crazy. Apparently, it's common when switching over from traditional shoes.

      Hi Chris,, the laces are touching the table (barely). However, this was to share with you/viewer the weight differences.
      On my own, initially when I was testing the shoe and noticed differences, I was curious to see if the shoe perhaps was wider or had extra fabric so I weighed it, laces were tucked inside, and it was still 2-3g lighter than the black ones.
      Additionally, I re-order a 3rd pair and came to realize that both black shoes I ordered were defective. It seems like the first wave all had some issues with their shoes. Merrell updated their shoes recently and it's noticeable. I ordered them again when Amazonhad them in stock. I also checked the box model numbers and they are different now than the last boxes. The Olive green and Black shoes fit perfectly now and weigh the same.
