    Great videos as always. Concise and well edited. You mentioned taking the time to match the veining and movement. I can see from your video that it’s worthwhile to do so. Could you explain briefly your process Bof matching? Chose a gold calacatta for shower wall so similar with yours. I was thinking of just having the tile setter do a random pattern but after watching your video I’ve now changed my mind.

    • @LandbergTileTV
      @LandbergTileTV  Рік тому

      Purchase extra tile and lay 5 or so stacks around the bathroom walls. You simply need to hold each tile up to find matches. It takes extra time, but well worth it.

    1) How did you ensure a clean cut (no chipping) with the snap cutter? You sanded some tiles and not others.
    2) Why was a seam placed in the middle of the niche back? It appears the niche back is smaller than a full tile, yet I've noticed many tilers creating a seam. (We will begin tiling our master bath in 2 weeks. Thanks for these tips.)

    • @LandbergTileTV
      @LandbergTileTV  3 роки тому +5

      Our Montolit usually cuts super clean. We snap it and hit the edge with out 50 grit diamond pad. No need for a tile saw other than the notches (Iq dustless). We cleaned up all non buried cut edges. The grout line behind the niche is necessary if you want to follow the 50% offset layout. (full below the niche)

    If the tiles require a 3/16" grout joint (12x24 offset 1/3):
    1) What size silicone joint do you leave between the top tile and the ceiling, assuming the ceiling will be left untiled?
    2) What size silicone joint do you leave between the mosaic floor and wall tile?
    3) Have you ever used a Schluter Dilex EKE in place of a silicone joint at plane changes of floor to wall and wall corners? If so, do you have suggestions for ensuring a good seal and fit? Thank you.

    • @LandbergTileTV

      It doesn't matter with a seal system like Schluter. We keep watershed in mind, but at the end of the day, the bench is 100% waterproof with a pitch and slope outside the shower.

    If we could use Ardex x77 on kerdi and still get the lifetime warranty we wouldn't have to put up ledgers. I also wrap corners but I do every row at each wall at the same time because I don't trust remembering or chipping one the next day. You're in a world of hurt if you have to take the set piece off if you find or chip your drop.

      I noticed that you used the 1/2" notch trowel, but why did you opt to just back butter the tile and not back comb it as well? I thought standard practice when using a lippage/leveling system was to always comb both the tile and the substrate to ensure there's enough thinset behind it. I've used the RIDGID system for a few years now, and if I did not get enough mud under the tile by backcombing it as well, the spacers have enough force that they've pulled the tile completely out of the thinset. That said, I have also had issues in several areas with excessive squeezed out as well. Still learning. Still improving. Any advice helps. Thank you.
