Stash it in a garage for a year and do another project in the interim, pull it back out in a year or 18 months later and tackle it with a grinder and mig welder. People absolutely love that sort of nut and bolt restoration content and this car is very definitely worth saving but you got to have the enthusiasm and commitment to get it done. You're obviously not in that space at the moment so you've made the right call I reckon. Very best of luck with the next project I look forward to your content! :)
Completely understand how you feel... I loved my mk1... Enjoyed working on it but it got to the stage, where every step forward resulted in 2 steps back... Fix one thing and something else would break.. Even happened on the same day once lol Still regret giving up on my mk1 but time had come for me to be realistic with myself...

I have a black 180 FWD stage 1 minimal rust just a tiny bit of bubbling, 2 large chips, one on the boot deck one on the front of a roof insert. I’ve added a Ram Air Pro-Ram to replace a smaller cone, I’ve bought the missing engine bay covers and installed a billet kit and steel panel screws. I’ve replaced the rear shelf with a full size metal one and christened the car the Ugly Duckling with ‘Ugly Duckling’ replacing ‘Quattro’ in the rear shelf. One day the Ugly Duckling will become a beautiful swan. It has possibly the worst 10 spoke wheels you’ll ever see but the 15mm/20mm spacers are making them look aggressive nonetheless. I feel the thing about it looking great in photos. My dolomite grey 3.2 looks mint in pictures but in person all those little imperfections start to show up really easily. I mean don’t get me wrong it’s in great condition for the age of the car but it does have its problems
I think there is very few out there that look better in real life than in pictures haha. I don’t mind the outside it’s what you can’t see that scares me with the Noggy 😅😅

Yep, I can totally understand what you need out of a TT when it comes to road trip, I like you wanted a race car with all the cage and quickly realised that what I wanted was an OEM plus with all the race car feel when only on boost and it was the best decision I made, must be hard making content and having to try and please us in every decision you make, thanks for your time making vids bud and really look forward to seeing you new Red QS OEM plus 🤣❤️

Hi Dom, Fully understand, chasing rust on a car is an expensive fools game, as it’s always worse than you think, and you should either have a track car you take racing on a trailer, or have a road car you don’t race, trying to do both with one car just means it does neither of them well. The latest mechatronic unit has recently gone into a form of drivable limp mode and im looking at a yet another replacement; its the 4th or 5th time ive had to look at replacing the unit! Also the rust, looking for sill replacement and wings as well! They all seem to go crusty in the same places! I dont dare look underneath as im sure the tin worms have been busy there as well!!!😢😢😢. But despite all that im foolishy going to try to keep her,...... yes big shekels will need to be spent but hey its almost a classic!😂😂😂 AND, like others im looking forward to seeing more of your endeavours and the next car! I almost thought you were planning to get a rice burner of some sort!!! Phew!!! Best wishes to you!

That or found a company willing to offer a long guarantee on it that’s for sure No I’m staying on brand, absolutely love the shape and styling just not wanting to waste another minute flogging this old girl. Thanks mate, so hardtop wide you need to try and get all the fixing accessory’s that are required to secure it down and the trim that sits round the body ( that the roof perched on ) not cheap and it all depends on if you want that coupe feel in the winter or not. Would help protect the soft canvas roof some what. Provided it’s put away clean and fry

Hello from Canada. I’m new to your channel. We just purchased a 2000 TT Quattro. It has high mileage at 342,000 km. It is mostly highway miles. Looked at your video to replace the rear tail light bulbs. I noticed something in your video where you mention a piece of red tape on part of the taillight lens. In Canada there is no red tape that is the reverse or backup light. My next service will be a front end alignment as the car needed front lower control arms and new tires. Also have to service the HALDEX. Keep up the great content. Good luck in your search for the best series of TT
Thanks buddy, yeah I think it’s only a uk thing having a red fog light that side. Often people buy euro lights and programme it so they have twin reverse lights to keep it symmetrical. Sounds like your new car is keeping you busy, plenty of driving and enjoying too I hope

There was a guy up north I think who wanted to do a similar thing with an alpine white z4 coupe only 2 ever with that spec,he sold the rest of the car and kept the chassis,don’t know if he actually went through with it but don’t understand the mentality,a rusty old chassis is only that in my opinion whatever the color,I’m sure when it’s all stripped and sold off and you have your new car,you’ll move it on.Good luck whatever you decide. 👍
@@TheParrottBros Sounds to me like you know it’s a goner mate,just don’t want to admit it,it’s a shame you didn’t realize how rusty it was before you started,most cars that age just don’t last that long in the uk,both my z4 and e91 have rusty subframes,diffs,shocks because the previous owners didnt love them like we do.luckily both chassis are solid. I’ve just let my Harley go which I bought new in 2011 and I never thought I’d sell that but I’d gone as far as I wanted without chopping the frame and halving it’s value,I didn’t even look back when the new owner drove off.👍

Hey si, unfortunately sometimes you just get what I call a Friday at 5 car. One that’s just never right. I’m not ready to give up on the Mk1’s just yet, Love them and the community too much but in the near future I can see it being an option
Sounds very much like you regret the Nogaro project but not the actual car itself. I guess the wider lesson to learn here is to see if there's a car already out there with the mods you are considering and then see if the owner thinks there's any issues with those changes. We can all sense the sadness you have currently.
I don’t regret the built at all, it’s got me where the channel is today, I do regret some of the mods made like the cage and stripping the car, it spoilt it and made is something I thought I wanted but when there it’s not at all. But at the same time it identified some serious rust that wasn’t aware of. So done me a favour really 😅

I've bought modifications in the past and been determined they were the right thing but then either seen them on other cars or had them in hand and realised I was being daft and rued the waste of money. Shocking that i have a tt 225 and a vw passat . My advice would be is to sell this car and buy a tt v6 quattro and turbo that car. When you are feeling down go in a corner and start crying with your bottom lip sticking out and move your arms back and forward like you are playing the bongos and say why me...why me ..will this ever end .

Thanks buddy, yeah I think it’s only a uk thing having a red fog light that side. Often people buy euro lights and programme it so they have twin reverse lights to keep it symmetrical.

There was a guy up north I think who wanted to do a similar thing with an alpine white z4 coupe only 2 ever with that spec,he sold the rest of the car and kept the chassis,don’t know if he actually went through with it but don’t understand the mentality,a rusty old chassis is only that in my opinion whatever the color,I’m sure when it’s all stripped and sold off and you have your new car,you’ll move it on.Good luck whatever you decide. 👍

Sounds to me like you know it’s a goner mate,just don’t want to admit it,it’s a shame you didn’t realize how rusty it was before you started,most cars that age just don’t last that long in the uk,both my z4 and e91 have rusty subframes,diffs,shocks because the previous owners didnt love them like we do.luckily both chassis are solid.
I’ve just let my Harley go which I bought new in 2011 and I never thought I’d sell that but I’d gone as far as I wanted without chopping the frame and halving it’s value,I didn’t even look back when the new owner drove off.👍
Dom, indeed Dow hag you feel is best I also sold mine sadly as it just kept going wrong and it was in the garage more than on the road which was such a shame so I’ve inadvertently returned to my Honda routes. Maybe you should also change up as these cars just seem to be so problematic. Si
Hey si, unfortunately sometimes you just get what I call a Friday at 5 car. One that’s just never right. I’m not ready to give up on the Mk1’s just yet, Love them and the community too much but in the near future I can see it being an option

Sounds very much like you regret the Nogaro project but not the actual car itself.
I guess the wider lesson to learn here is to see if there's a car already out there with the mods you are considering and then see if the owner thinks there's any issues with those changes.
We can all sense the sadness you have currently.
I don’t regret the built at all, it’s got me where the channel is today, I do regret some of the mods made like the cage and stripping the car, it spoilt it and made is something I thought I wanted but when there it’s not at all. But at the same time it identified some serious rust that wasn’t aware of. So done me a favour really 😅

I've bought modifications in the past and been determined they were the right thing but then either seen them on other cars or had them in hand and realised I was being daft and rued the waste of money.

Shocking that i have a tt 225 and a vw passat . My advice would be is to sell this car and buy a tt v6 quattro and turbo that car. When you are feeling down go in a corner and start crying with your bottom lip sticking out and move your arms back and forward like you are playing the bongos and say why me...why me ..will this ever end .
I no exactly what your saying Dom move on to a fresh challenge be sad to see noggy go but as long as your still putting content out I will be watching 👍
