Nice Job ! I am in the middle of this job and was wondering if i should remove the engine but after watching your vid i think I will leave it in as I don,t want to make to much work for myself as i have both drives to do.

I really appreciate your videos Steve. I have the DP290A so it is the same as yours except for the duo props. It also has power steering so I have 2 linkages on the tiller lever. Mine has a very annoying tracking problem while at slower speeds. I think that some of it may be due to slop in the the 2 steering fork bushings located in the transom shield. Evidently the originals are nylon. Did you replaced those 2 bushings and if so, do you have any advise?
I also used your ideas for a "carrier dolly" for supporting the outdrive. That will save my back for sure.
My boat sits in fresh water over the summer but it is river water with zebra mussels. What a mess so I will need to remove the outdrive every few years for bellows and inspection.
    Thanks again.

Thank you Dave for your comment.
Yes, I usually replace the 2 nylon bushes every time I remove the outdrive, approximately once every 3 years, in order to replace the bellows.
There is no difficulty at all in replacing the bushes. They are in nylon so you can brake them easily if they don't come out. Remember to properly clean the housing before inserting the new bushes with fine sand paper. Best regards.

Had to pay 15$ but definitely worth the money =)

hey capt steve....just got one of these out drives. I was wondering if you had a good online source for parts? Also are there any id numbers anywhere? Mine has been painted it looks just like your 290 but im sure they have different models using that set up.

Very nice job and useful video. I tried to reach out to those 6 bolts on engine mount kit that is located right behind the steering fork and stern leg. I could not reach them as the steering fork was in the way.
    Question:
I need to remove the flywheel housing to replace the flexplate (located right behind flywheel )..
Would it be better remove transom bellhousing to reach the flywheel housing or remove the engine?

Thank you. I would remove the transom bell housing rather than the motor.
The first time you remove the steering fork is a tough job. I had to create special tapered shims to separate it from the tiller arm, due to corrosion. After that first time I have had no more problems. It is enough to properly grease everything before assembling and the disassembly becomes a very easy job.

Capt. Steve Thank you. Wish if I saw your reply earlier. I started to dismantle all to lift the engine. I decided to remove so I can give a good painting and check all parties around the engine. It’s my first time experience ever to remove AQAD40B. Those 6 bolts at the transom were all corroded. Luckily the bolts were greased by a previous mariner. So it was much easier to pull the out even the head of bolts were all rusted and gone

I am having trouble locating my tiller arm set screw its suppose to be a 5/32 allen wrench my drive is a DP-C1

See my video ua-cam.com/video/zp9cdR5UqOQ/v-deo.html at minute 00:48. It shows tiller arm set screw unlocking operation. I do not remeber the exact size of the allen wrench. Next time I will go to the boat I will look at it and let you know.

Thanks...........I actually found it before you replied by watching the video about three times. LOL...its a 5/32 Allen Wrench as my drive is a little different than yours. Great video very informative. Do you have one that removes the shift cable? I am subscribing now and thanks for the quick reply!

Thank you for subscribing. I am glad you appreciate the videos.
The procedure to disconnect the shift cable from the drive is described in my video ua-cam.com/video/M_5Lw8ZWgc8/v-deo.html. Unfortunately I have never had the need of removing, (meaning "changing") the whole shift cable, so I cannot be helpful on this issue.

Hi Bryant. An excellent source for Volvo Penta schematics is the Web site marine parts express which has a section dedicated to schematics. Very useful. Try it. www.marinepartsexpress.com/VP_Schematics/ . Good luck!
