Sebastian will always be one of the greatest champions F1 has ever seen. His pure love for this sport and the history of it is unrivaled. I personally think that Seb was the kind of driver that needed to feel absolutely comfortable in a team, like a second family, to be able to display his full skills and potential. Red Bull was able to give him this kind of "family" feeling that he surely missed at Ferrari and Aston Martin. One thing he will always have my respect for is leaving Red Bull. He could've gone the easy way like Hamilton and just stay in the same team, as long as they give him the best car on the grid, but instead he wanted to challenge himself and also fulfill his childhood dream of driving for Ferrari. This is something we won't see anymore. The current and upcoming driver generation doesn't care about the sports history. They don't care about what it means to drive for legendary teams like Ferrari or McLaren. They only care about getting in the best car, no matter who it belongs to, to one day leave the sport as rich as possible.
Think that’s a bit of a generalisation and not really fair. Norris has and continues to show a lot of loyalty to mclaren, Leclerc may moan a lot but he clearly wants to win with Ferrari, Verstappen has talked about spending his whole career with red bull. Russell was never going to drive for anyone other than Mercedes as soon as they decided he was ready. They’re obviously young so have plenty of time for things to change but when you compare that to Hamilton jumping ship from Mclaren after they mentored him from a young age , Alonso racing from every top team at different stages, raikonnen racing for both mclaren and Ferrari, you can argue the current generation are (so far) more loyal to their marques and their history and less willing to jump ship to a faster car at the drop of a hat than their peers from the previous generation?
I said it so often but i say it again: Vettel probably faced the most talanted driver ever and won against everyone at some point. He has never realy a easy season, every single win was a fight. The "downfall" at Ferrari was at a time when he already accomplished everything he wanted, when he was grown up and realized there is more in the world. If Alonso would have ever found the right women for a family he wouldn't be around so long ether (and he would absolutely deserve it)

I think the more fundamental reason could be that he just fell out of love with what F1 was becoming. Vettel just wasn’t anywhere near his former self after the 2014 rules changes, which imo didn’t appeal to his purist self in order to push himself like pre 2014.

Seb was brutally fast in the right car but like most drivers he needed the car to fit his strengths in order to maximise his speed. This is true of even the best drivers in history and it was just unfortunate for Seb that he couldn't quite find that magic blend of driver and machine at Ferrari for in the V6 era in general. Not to mention how fast Mercedes and Lewis were at the time. - The only driver in my time watching F1 who seems to be able to drive anything at close to their maximum is Fernando but he is a freak of nature. I can't speak to the likes of Senna or Jim Clark because I only started watching in 1996 (by all accounts they were freaks of nature too). Seb was fast and mighty and should be considered a great of the sport regardless of his drop off after 2013.

Tbf Michael stayed away from racing for too long, he was older than Seb when he came back and he also had a neck injury. There are many legends that come back from retirement. The most recent example is Alonso but it's not just him. Lauda and Prost also returned from retirement and they even won a championship. However, I wouldn't bring Seb back either. That pair of title shots he had at Ferrari were unquestionably a massive turning point in Vettel's career, especially the latter chance. Had he won both or even one of those, it would have made him a champion at multiple teams and restored Ferrari to championship glory. As it was he lost one he could have won, another he should have and largely through his own mistakes. Hamilton cemented himself as the king of their generation, pushing onwards towards Fangio and Schumacher, while Vettel seemed to lose that edge and self-confidence he'd previously had.
What really happened to Vettel? I guess we’ll never know. The video certainly doesn’t tell us, but it’s a nice trip down memory lane nonetheless. I think that, outside of such a dominant car, he just couldn’t quite cut it at the top level. Kudos to him as an ambassador for the sport, and he was entertaining to watch. My observation tells me that his crash at his home race during Ferrari year that he was championship contender against Lewis, his crashed cause him yips condition subconsciously he was buried it took a long time recover from that , the damage was done. I grew to love Sebastian, an absolute relentless legend and a humble guy who paid homage to the champions that came before him, he picked the number 5 at ferrari becuase red 5 was Nigel Mansel's number the last driver Enzo himself picked to drive for the scuderia, he won 15 races at ferrari which is enough to get a title but alot of dubious decisions, went against him in my opinion, I'm becoming very cynical about F1's authenticity as a sport, it's turning more into entertainment and Ssbastian wasn't the same after leaving the scuderia if only, we could find out what happens behind closed doors!

I'm under the impression that many "great drivers" simply had the best car at the right time. It's like corporate America. You have a guy who simply is an unstoppable force and then is met with equal (if not better) competition. No professional organization is immune from otherwise dominant people who are ultimately defeated by younger up and coming people (when given a winning car). Sebastian made his own career moves and landed in cars that were less than the rest and he simply didn't perform when compared to his teammates. It really goes to show how much of a team sport F1 is. During his day compared to his teammates he took a car (4 times) and won world championships. How good would he have been if he started with a lesser team and worked his way up? Would he always show that excellence and beat every teammate to clench a world title? I think not. He simply had the right path with the right car and his teammates simply could not fight him. Simple as that. It's a bit of luck and talent when it comes to f1 because it really is a team sport. There are drivers who if given the ideal pipeline could beat all teammates and then land a championship car and then win. That does not happen as often because the car is just an important to the driver who takes it to the podium. Meaning, if you have an above average driver (when compared to the grid) who is piloting a championship car will always win. That is why Vettel never bounced back. He went through several teams and teammates and never was anything special. F1 is for the most part a combination of drivers luck and baseline skill compared to the car they are given. Think of how many drivers during Vettels time (when he was winning) who if given the same machinery would dominate him. Equally, I would be interested in previous world champions being given less than optimal cars on the grid during the years they won and seeing where they place. This obviously will never happen because hindsight is not 20/20 in f1 unless your teammate is severely lacking and awful. If you are a good enough driver to luckily beat half the grid then odds are any teammate you are given will have less than a shot at beating you. That is, if you are a top 10 driver and you land a championship car depending on the competition you will almost always win. It is a game of probability because everyone is so good.
To sum up: Consecutive 4 times world champion. Next year, in his team, ricciardo demolished him. He went to ferrari and underperformed, when leclerc arrived demolished him again since day 1. Then he went to aston martin and retire

Sebastian, especially today couldn't hold a candle to Max... Plenty of F1 drivers have sweetheart stories, going all the way back to when they had to be put into carts / karts by their parents at age whatever... His golden years in this case were definitely fueled by RedBull getting ahead of the curve.. I'm not saying that Max isn't enjoying that as well with the latest RB... The difference is, and hate if you want, Max could jump into the weeker of the toro roso cars and quite possibly win by sheer will alone.. Norris has and continues to show a lot of loyalty to mclaren, Leclerc may moan a lot but he clearly wants to win with Ferrari, Verstappen has talked about spending his whole career with red bull. Russell was never going to drive for anyone other than Mercedes as soon as they decided he was ready. They’re obviously young so have plenty of time for things to change but when you compare that to Hamilton jumping ship from Mclaren after they mentored him from a young age , Alonso racing from every top team at different stages, raikonnen racing for both mclaren and Ferrari, you can argue the current generation are (so far) more loyal to their marques and their history and less willing to jump ship to a faster car at the drop of a hat than their peers from the previous generation?

I said it so often but i say it again: Vettel probably faced the most talanted driver ever and won against everyone at some point. He has never realy a easy season, every single win was a fight. The "downfall" at Ferrari was at a time when he already accomplished everything he wanted, when he was grown up and realized there is more in the world. If Alonso would have ever found the right women for a family he wouldn't be around so long ether (and he would absolutely deserve it)

As a kid back in 2010-2012 i love watching sebastian and lewis drive man nothing will be like the days i'd get up early on the saturday and watch the f1
Seb was brutally fast in the right car but like most drivers he needed the car to fit his strengths in order to maximise his speed. This is true of even the best drivers in history and it was just unfortunate for Seb that he couldn't quite find that magic blend of driver and machine at Ferrari for in the V6 era in general. Not to mention how fast Mercedes and Lewis were at the time. - The only driver in my time watching F1 who seems to be able to drive anything at close to their maximum is Fernando but he is a freak of nature. I can't speak to the likes of Senna or Jim Clark because I only started watching in 1996 (by all accounts they were freaks of nature too). Seb was fast and mighty and should be considered a great of the sport regardless of his drop off after 2013.
Ferrari is just hostile enviroment, riding a legendary status they dont live up to anymore. The comparison between Merc protecting Lewis at all cost and Ferrari saying: Seb fucked up in 2018 is just laughable. I respect Lewis but I dont thing even he could have won title with Ferrari in the last decade.

Tbf Michael stayed away from racing for too long, he was older than Seb when he came back and he also had a neck injury. There are many legends that come back from retirement. The most recent example is Alonso but it's not just him. Lauda and Prost also returned from retirement and they even won a championship.

That pair of title shots he had at Ferrari were unquestionably a massive turning point in Vettel's career, especially the latter chance. Had he won both or even one of those, it would have made him a champion at multiple teams and restored Ferrari to championship glory. As it was he lost one he could have won, another he should have and largely through his own mistakes. Hamilton cemented himself as the king of their generation, pushing onwards towards Fangio and Schumacher, while Vettel seemed to lose that edge and self-confidence he'd previously had.

I grew to love Sebastian, an absolute relentless legend and a humble guy who paid homage to the champions that came before him, he picked the number 5 at ferrari becuase red 5 was Nigel Mansel's number the last driver Enzo himself picked to drive for the scuderia, he won 15 races at ferrari which is enough to get a title but alot of dubious decisions, went against him in my opinion, I'm becoming very cynical about F1's authenticity as a sport, it's turning more into entertainment and Ssbastian wasn't the same after leaving the scuderia if only, we could find out what happens behind closed doors!

I'm under the impression that many "great drivers" simply had the best car at the right time. It's like corporate America. You have a guy who simply is an unstoppable force and then is met with equal (if not better) competition. No professional organization is immune from otherwise dominant people who are ultimately defeated by younger up and coming people (when given a winning car). Sebastian made his own career moves and landed in cars that were less than the rest and he simply didn't perform when compared to his teammates. It really goes to show how much of a team sport F1 is. During his day compared to his teammates he took a car (4 times) and won world championships. How good would he have been if he started with a lesser team and worked his way up? Would he always show that excellence and beat every teammate to clench a world title? I think not. He simply had the right path with the right car and his teammates simply could not fight him. Simple as that. It's a bit of luck and talent when it comes to f1 because it really is a team sport. There are drivers who if given the ideal pipeline could beat all teammates and then land a championship car and then win. That does not happen as often because the car is just an important to the driver who takes it to the podium. Meaning, if you have an above average driver (when compared to the grid) who is piloting a championship car will always win. That is why Vettel never bounced back. He went through several teams and teammates and never was anything special. F1 is for the most part a combination of drivers luck and baseline skill compared to the car they are given. Think of how many drivers during Vettels time (when he was winning) who if given the same machinery would dominate him.
Equally, I would be interested in previous world champions being given less than optimal cars on the grid during the years they won and seeing where they place. This obviously will never happen because hindsight is not 20/20 in f1 unless your teammate is severely lacking and awful. If you are a good enough driver to luckily beat half the grid then odds are any teammate you are given will have less than a shot at beating you. That is, if you are a top 10 driver and you land a championship car depending on the competition you will almost always win. It is a game of probability because everyone is so good.

There's no way unless they come up with some UFO delivered package will he beat either Max, Lewis, and a ton of other current talent.. That idea just has bad written all over it... Maybe if Audi puts out something impressive, they might just luck in to Max or Hamilton, etc. as their #1.. IF Sebastian wants to be in the paddock again, he should try out for pit bitch and work hard...
As much as I like Seb, the best thing Audi could do is try to sign Verstappen. Saving him from a slowly crumbling Red Bull Racing.
Seb can drive any car made ferrari look better than they were for very long and that took a mental toll on him that led to burnout. Poor charles and saintz they will find out soon enough.
