The guy definitely knew how to get speed out of the car, but the problem was he just was so god damn reckless. If it could have been tamed, he would have been just fine in F1.
My dad was a PDVSA worker during the time Maldonado was racing, the company was falling apart and the corruption was huge (still is), meanwhile they were paying million dollars a year for that idiot to keep crashing and putting in danger everybody else

I have a very different view of Pastor's difficulties in the series. That win was a great day for me as a F1 fan. Not many human beings have ever won a Formula race. You Go Pastor.

to be fair, maldonado was in general pretty fast and competitive. Unfortunately, he didn't had the focus and the consistency to end the races. Without half of the avoidable accident, he would had been a great middle grid pilot. Many of them were just really stupid mistakes that you makes only when you are distracted or not focused (like on the pits). Honestly: he had every potential to compete on F1, but he fucked up by a low level of focus and situational awareness. Both things that you can work on. When the problem is the talent, you cannot really work on it, if you have it, you have it...but throwing away a career because you don't work on your situational awareness and focus, by keeping doing the same silly, stupid and really avoidable mistakes over and over...feels really like a waste.
