This is such an underrated movie. It's an absolute shame that it's not better known.
Also Michelle Pfeiffer was positively stunning in this movie.
yes and yes!
HBO tried. They played this nonstop in the mid-late eighties. It’s still one of my favorites, along with “Something Wild”.
The sight of David Bowie and Carl Perkins trying to strangle each other is meta overload!
I was 23 in 1986. I watched this movie for the first time on cable. On a typical workday I looked very similar to how Jeff Goldblum looked in this movie, and btw, my first name is Jeff. I naturally had very similar physical features, I wore identical clothes, and even had some similar mannerisms. I probably could have been his stunt double, even.
I was lying down on a couch with my hands folded behind my head, and then I saw the refection of myself from the tv set. I realized how much I looked like Ed Orkin in this movie! It was a little eerie at first. Then I laughed my ass off!
I have yet to wake up from a long nap with stacks of large denomination bills lying next to me, left by a stunningly gorgeous blonde like Michelle Pfeiffer who now wants a ride to the airport, and with whom I spent and evening of adventure while coming down from a bout of insomnia. This movie gave me the dream though!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of five!
One of my favorite movies of all time!
One of the best 1980’s flicks!
Rick Baker was unrecognizable without beard!
Thanks so much for posting this.
I was a projectionist for 25 years. This is one of the best pictures I ever ran. David Bowie was positively awesome in this.
I had a 4-foot fluorescent shop light over my bench in my projection booth, and for years I had a frame I cut out from the beginning of the trailer for 'Into the Night' taped to it--- any time I needed a smile, I could look up and see: "Ed Okin Can't Sleep"
Thank you for sharing this wonderful story!!
Thank you for shinning light on some of the things that make this movie unique.❤
I love this film so much. Thanks for doing this one.
Thanks for watching!
All I Can Say Is WOW! Thank you for your research and this video. I love this movie!
thanks for watching!! Check out our other interesting documentaries too!
I remember reading a critic moaning about all the cameos in this movie and how tiresome it was. When I first saw it, I didn't know who ANY of these people were, but I thought it was a great film anyway. I still think it's a great film and the critics can go hang for all I care.
These people have no idea. Nobody would miss them.
Way back when there were video rental stores I got this one night for kicks & grins, and was actually surprised by how good it was. Can't remember what caused me to rent it but glad I did.
Great video you made about a fantastic movie.
I've seen this movie so many times I couldn't even begin to count.
I've been fond of this movie at least since the early 90s and have rewatched it a dozen times. This video gave so much extra information, thanks. The movie posters were an especially fine touch.
Saw it as a little girl... instantly loved it. Haven't seen it in many years.
I’m bummed you didn’t list Something Wild when you mentioned Demme.
Another favorite from the same era. “Body Double” was another, though it’s a Brian De Palma film.
I always think of this film, Demme's "Something Wild," and Scorcese's "After Hours" as part of the same mid-'80s "the weirdest things happen to the most normal guy" genre; also, all are cameo-heavy. Can't help but recommend all three to people; never just one.
@@notabritperse, I’ll add After Hours to my list. Thanks.
Addit: I just watched it on Roku. It reminded me of “Desperately Seeking Susan” (not just because of the casting).
This is the first time I’ve seen Catherine O’Hara not overacting.
I wouldn’t rate it as high as “Something Wild” or “Into the Night”. I can re-watch those several times without getting bored.
Cool & informative video!
Thank you!
Very well done, sir!
I THINK FRANK OZ IS ALSO THERE.
Yes I think so! I actually forgot to mention him and Dan Aykroyd too. There are too many haha
@@BlumenFalckFilmTalk Andrew Marton too! (Although you DID mention Dan Aykroyd) And Daniel Petrie's AD is David Sosna, who was Landis' AD on INTO THE NIGHT
The dog in the elevator is a cameo too! He's the Dog from "Gremlins" and "Friday the 13th part 4: Final Chapter." Real name is either *Mushroom or Marshmallow.
Frank Oz was in Blues Brothers and Jim Henson is in this, another Muppet connection considering Landis got to be the puppeteer of Grover in The Muppet Movie.
Love this film! Amazing work on the video. Thank you!! Any idea who played the blonde woman in the shiny gold dress and the older gentleman she was dancing with in the brief night club scene?
That's not Art Evans. Art played the bellhop.
Nobody besides my 5 friends back in 85 knows anything about this movie. And i know a lot of ppl. A lot of ppl claiming to be movie buffs. Best kept secret I'd say!
Yep. It also amazes me how many people have never heard of Something Wild.
@@twofiveb Or "After Hours," rounding out the mid-80s trilogy of overlooked films by great directors whose reputation could attract some outrageously perfect casting/cameos. Would you buy a used car from John Waters? Sell your art to Cheech and Chong? Let David Bowie pull a gun on you?
Anybody outside America are in this?
David Bowie wasn’t an American.
Edit to add:
Several cast members were born in other countries. Roger Vadim was a French director.
What was your point in asking?
Great video! Back when this came out on HBO back in the 80s I recognized several of the directors acting in this movie and thought it was amazing (I was a movie geek as a kid) and now I am even more amazed at how many more directors and famous people who are in this. This just makes my love for this film even more. Great job!
thank you!
Haven't seen this in thirty years. Before that, must've watched it thirty times!
