I mix with headphones too. And yes f the haters. You should do what you can with what you already have and make the best of it. Very wise words man. Very wise words.
Downloaded the trial halfway through the video... didn't realize the high sizzle my DT 770 Pro 32ohm added to the mix before I turned it on. Given my high-end hearing loss that explains why I like these for listening to music as well as recording.
Holy crap! I had no idea about this piece of software. These make my Beyerdynamic Custom Studio headphones sound much more natural which really helps! Thanks Nick! :D
This is a fantastic plugin! It makes a huge difference. If anyone is looking for an extremely affordable, very flat set of headphones that works with this plugin, grab a pair of Superlux HD 681. Have you considered upgrading and calibrating your studio monitors with their reference mic?
Veeery cool! Did you ever tried Waves NX Virtual Mix Room plugin? It's a software which allows you to mix on headphones by recreating a properly acoustic treated room over which your mix Is routed. It would be cool a video about It 😉
I LOVE my NX Plugin!!! When I am playing hotter guitar tones with amp sims on my Logic Pro X DAW (like Beck, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, not metal) my Sennheiser HD650s are just too 'close and person'. The guitar tones sound fizzy and brittle, if that make sense. When I engage my NX plugin it opens things up and makes my headphones sound very much like in im my room with my Yamaha HS-10M studio monitors. This way I can mix with either. But, I decided to sniff around and learn about this Sonarworks Refeance plugin to see if its even better but I have not yet determined if it has the that same feature as NX where it blends both left and right to simulate an actual room. Would you happen to know... because this seems to be a key ingredient for me?
i guess im randomly asking but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I would love any help you can give me
@Bobby Maximiliano I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Hey man, I've got the exact same headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250Ohm), same guitar (Solar A1.6D-27) and I'm using Studio One as well.... what are the odds? :D
great video! but i wanted to know, if i use this product, would a audio interface be needed? and also, if i open it through the desktop, would it be the same as opening it in DAW, or would I need to add it to the DAWS master?
You don’t need an interface for it to work. It simply either works on the main audio out of your pc or Mac and subsequently, when you have the daw open, you need to place the plug-in on your main outs and it in essence, shuts off, the main system version. Terribly explained but hopefully you understand what I’m saying
Thanks so much for the kind words. I think it’s a great tool to reference. No pun intended! Think of it as an even flatter pair of speakers to run your stuff through. This in combination with other reference tools, headphones, and speakers really helps get you closer
So let me get this straight. I install Sonarworks, set up my headphones, mix away, disable Sonarworks for mixdown and bam, my song is ready. So this means theoretically I can now use the headphones I had used to mix with...now with Sonarworks completely disabled...and my mix will sound fine through the headphones I mixed on right?
Sort of, I think. So the software takes your model of headphones (ensure they have a profile first) and essentially uses EQ to flatten the frequency response. This allows you to make better mixing moves.
Wow Bud. Sorry I didn’t get the answer right on the first shot trying to navigate your question. Always a swell way to seek an answer. If you’re referring to the end of your long question, where you say “now with Sonarworks completely disabled… And my mix will sound fine through the headphones I mixed on right?” what does that mean? Right. It’s going to sound different because your headphones are coloring your mix and that’s the point I’m trying to make. Download the trial and listen to the music you usually listen to with the software running. You will hear the difference your headphones are making. So if you’re used to listening to these headphones, that have been coloring all of your listening experiences and your mixes to this point, one could say no, it’s not gonna sound right because you’re used to listening stuff on uncorrected headphones. Hope that’s more thorough buddy, pal :)
@@NickHillMakesMusic Hey dude. You've gone over the top a bit. I wasn't mad, angry, or anything else. Sincerely asking. Your reply didn't seem to show you got what I meant. Theoretically it should sound fine...good...since that's the promise of the software. Right? Let's say I listen to my mix on a completely different set of headphones...it's supposed to sound nice in THEM right? Or anywhere else...this is the goal and the promise essentially of the software...this is what it claims to do. So why won't it sound nice on the headphones I used to mix on? Once the software is disabled those headphones are just a set of headphones like any other set of headphones you might want to hear your mix on. See there's a problem here. Are you saying my mix will translate everywhere EXCEPT on the phones I mixed it on?? That'd be weird I reckon.

YES! Make it work and use cool stuff that can help. AWESOME episode Nick!

Definitely purchasing this! Thanks Nick
Good stuff Nick! I like that you show real world use of these products and instruction! Keep it coming.
Thanks Nick, much appreciated.
Systems Calibrated, great video

Snagged this solely based on your recommendation.

Blue Cat's Re-Head (Blue Cat Audio) is another one like Virtual Mix Room

Right on Dude!! We are setup Bros! Glad you’re here. Hope I’ve been able to help you with the vids. Cheers
@@NickHillMakesMusic Yeah, you did help. I'm thinking about replacing the pickups, probably gonna go with Dimarzio Titans, thanks to your video.

Hi Nick, just a question. Do you use Sonarworks during patch creation with Helix?
Nope
@@NickHillMakesMusic cool thank you!
And thanks a lot for your videos.
Always informative and straight to the point!
Why don't you use the listen track in Studio One?
Yo! It’s just never been a part of my workflow. No particular reason
Great video bro
