We were lucky enough to see Melvin and the boys many years ago in Manchester UK. You really could hear a pin drop when he sang this. I've not seen an artist do that in all the years since. Simply goosepimplefantastic.
The best Bass singer ever. We were privileged to see this Temps line up in Manchester UK and sing exactly like we see here. I'd never hear an auditorium silent before, you really could hear a pin drop. What a wonderful sound and amazing experience which lives with me forever.
The GREATEST bass singer that EVER lived. R.I.P. David Melvin English aka Melvin “Blue” Franklin. (October 12th,1942- February 23rd,1995). Background Vocals Left to Right: Ron Tyson, Richard Street, Otis Williams, and Dennis Edwards.
RIP David Ruffin (1941-1991) RIP Eddie Kendricks (1939-1992) RIP Paul Williams (1939-1973) RIP Dennis Edwards (1943-1995) And RIP Melvin Franklin (1942-1995)
Ole man river knows something, and we know the Tempts knew, just keep rolling along. A great great American classic performed by a great American group, a national treasure, our Temptations, singing for the ages of our struggles. Love this, just keep rolling along!
YO! I USED TO LIVE IN THE SAME BUILDING AS MELVINS. I DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM UNTIL HE SPOKE THE WORDS (OLD MAN RIVER) ! WITH THAT BARATONE VOICE ! THIS SONG WILL BE A CLASSIC-SLAVE SONG FOR ALL TIME SAKES ! I MAKE CLASSIC CD'S + I GOT CUSTOMERS RIGHT NOW FOR THIS SONG IN THE BOWLING ALLEY - BX. DJ JEFF TO THE LEFT! LOOK ME UP, ANY SONG IN T/WORLD!
I heard it live in the fall of 84. Small venue maybe 2000 seats. It was durring the T-N-T tour. My girlfriend bought me the tickets for my B-Day and got seats about 20 feet from stage on the aisle. I don't mind saying when he did this it was all everyone could do not to tear up. I dang sure did. Never be another BLUE. R.I.P. Melvin
Unusual performance of one of the best popular songs ever written. I wish though they had the courage to use closer to the original lyrics. I can't see how anyone could reasonably be offended by 'let me go way from the white man boss'; especially as at the time Kern and Hammerstein wrote this it was the reality that for those working on the Mississippi, their boss very probably was a white man.
Melvin was awesome He's my favourite Is there n e other clips of him doing a solo like in I truly believe Download green eyes by the ravens if you like this because jimmy ricks had one heck of a low voice I read somewhere that Melvin was highly influenced by Jimmy. Google images search melvin franklin' the third image should come up with a list of black vocal groups What year was this R there n e interview videos with him thanks for adding this
