Finally gave the Friday The 13th Remake a chance after your strong recommendation. I couldn't agree more with your take, one of the best of the franchise and a real shame we didn't get a sequel.
I Know Cody's Bottom three are Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, Friday The 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan, and Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers, and his top three are A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream warriors, A Nightmare On Elm Street and John Carpenters Halloween.
I never did enjoy that one personally I like Derek Mears as Jason but that's pretty much where my enjoyment of that film ends.
@@bigkmoviesandgames It’s just so difficult to get through because the characters act so unnaturally. In the 80s I get it, but for 2009, it’s unbearable how underdeveloped the characters are. I roll my eyes every time I watch the movie. Derek Mears is still the best Jason we’ve ever gotten. That’s about all the movie has going for it.
@@JazziG59 yeah that's pretty much how I feel the characters are just Major D bags or as you said completely underdeveloped and have nothing going for them. The characters in the older Friday movies were often one note but they were memorable and entertaining which is a lot more than I can say for the people in the remake. I also feel the film has pacing issues hell it starts three damn times. Lol.
I remember watching it the first time and I did not like it at all...but after rewatching it last year I was much kinder to it tbh...the Jason here was very intimidating.

That thumbnail is incredible
Fun fact: HP Lovecraft actually had a journal where he wrote story ideas down. One of his unused concepts was the story of someone that wouldn’t sleep because they insisted something was coming for him in his dreams. The unused story’s ending involved the man finally sleeping and dying in his sleep
I’m not sure if Wes Craven was inspired by that, but he read articles that inspired the idea of A Nightmare on Elm Street. One was about refugees who refused to have sleep due to having nightmares and the other was about a young man who would do anything to keep him awake because he feared something was going to kill him in his dreams. He would not take sleeping pills and would hide a pot of coffee from his parents. While watching TV, the young man fell asleep and his parents put him to bed. In the middle of the night, screams are heard and the parents rush to his room, only to find him dead.
I didn't know that.😮
That would've been interesting. Having that same concept but in a much more reserved style could be really creepy. Having the threat be less recognisable and tangible, as opposed to a person you can identify and figure out.

Oh my god you liked I love your channel congratulations on 100k
I understand the issues with the humor and the Sartain twist but Halloween 2018 is one of the best movies of this franchise
Without question
100 percent idc what anyone says 2018 the best sequel to the original the movie actually tried to add depth and completely respected Michael and carpenters atmosphere
Nahh, it’s maybe 6th
I know I’m way late on this, but I was thinking to myself the other day that if you flip the newest trilogy into reverse order, it actually works significantly better. Obviously you’d have to chance certain things (Karen dying, how Michael was in a mental institution again before the final movie, etc.), but it legitimately works better. Movie 1: Michael is still out there somewhere after all these years. He meets Corey and slowly become stronger by the two of them working together. At the end, he kills Corey, and he and Laurie have a great 50-50 fight where he escapes once again. Halloween kills is mostly the same, minus Karen dying at the end. The third movie opens after a time skip where Laurie lives in a compound, waiting for Michael to come after her. The three Strode women work together to outsmart him, trap him in the basement, and then finally kill him for real. It’s actually kind of crazy how much better that works than what we got.
@@MatthewBrown-il3ctWow, you know what, you aren't wrong! They started with the climax because they knew it would probably sell the best, but if they had done a bit of a reverse order, the box office may not have been as big as first, but it would have probably made the 2018 film even more successful, due to the big payoff.
The reason why Part 9 is the one that feels completely different is because after Jason Takes Manhattan Paramount sold the franchise to New Line Cinema

“Don’t get too excited, Bryan. You are _never_ going to make me a Critters fan. I’m holding strong on that one.”
*4 years later*
“Yeah, so I don’t know what happened, but I think Critters might be one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”
I guarantee it. He’s gonna like Critters over Aliens and Predator combined 4 years later. Bryan decides the fate for humanity.
It's FINALLY here! I look forward to 31 on 31 every Halloween; it's become a a tradition 🎃 So stoked to go back to the Big Three franchises that started it all. Keep up the fantastic work! 🤘

Thanks for doing these every Halloween, really gets me in the spirit. Gonna enjoy the last hour of Halloween with this vid, thanks Cody
Phenomenal list, Cody! Thank you for hard work & talent. We are so spoiled
Cody- really enjoy your energy in this video. I’ve watched a lot of your ranking vids and this one has a really great energy and excitement to talk about these movies, even the crappy ones. So, thank you for that extra effort cause I’m sure it’s hard to talk about these films over and over again. Also, the edits, intro and the clips shown to make your points are really well recieved. It’s very evident that your editing and effort is increasing as you grow and that’s appreciated and very rare in these kinds of channels so, thank you!!

That intro was NASTY!!!!
I really enjoyed the new Halloween but as I was leaving the theater I thought to myself "man it would be cool to see Jason again on the big screen" because my favorite slasher series is Friday the 13th and I hope we get a 13th Friday the 13th one day. I know they're apparently doing a prequel series so I guess we'll see if theres a film as well in the near future.
They are doing another film where they (to my memory) can use the appearance of Jason and the name of Friday the 13th. everything else goes to the show (Jason’s name, Pamela, crystal lake etc). Both are missing so much. I hope they can come to an agreement where they can tie in the show with the movie and both use whatever they want
Can tell you put a lot of time and energy on this. Well done!

No way is H5 is better than Friday the 13th part 4 but we have our own perspectives, still your is something
I’m happy that it seems universally agreed upon that the best Friday the 13th movies are 4, 6, and the remake. :)
Edit: Yeah, I'll throw in Freddy vs Jason as well, though I think that's more so for spectacle that being a good story.
Fvj >part 6
My defense of the original Friday the 13th is that Mrs Voorhees is infinitely the most relatable slasher villain I can think of because anyone would react that way. Well everyone would kill Barry and Claudette for not watching Jason well enough but not everyone would kill a bunch of people 30 years later. The teenagers in the movie are a bunch of people you'd want to party with and hang out with. The kills are fantastic. There's so many hilarious moments like the cop bike scene, the snake scene. "Well at least we know what's for dinner". I will always defend that movie it is fantastic.
I would add that the movie has some effectively creepy moments that none of the sequels ever really manage, like the scene where the one guy looks up at the elevated cabin and you can vaguely see a figure behind the branches, looking down at him before walking inside. Or the very childlike “help me” calls Pamela throws out to lure people towards her. Those are actually potentially scary moments in a series that is otherwise not really focused on being scary.
@@BareBandSubscription absolutely. I’ll also add to the defense of it that the setting is by far the best in the series. When I think of Camp Crystal Lake this is the one I think of. It helps that it’s a real summer camp and I feel none of the other films match that vibe. And it actually does manage to build tension and atmosphere throughout. The scene where Marcie gets killed is genuinely suspenseful!
@@HEYitzED
Yes, totally agree.
@@BareBandSubscription Great points. I agree - Friday excels in the sum of all the smaller moments - the build-up, atmosphere, look and tone - heads and shoulders about the rest in these departments. Cheers
This was awesome Cody! Loved seeing the differences between this and that original 31 on 31! Keep up the great work and you’ll get to 200k sooner rather than later!
Look forward to sitting back with this one. Even though I don’t always share your opinions on ranking movies, you always offer strong and interesting reasoning for them.
I remember back in the summer of 2018 I found your channel and your reviews on the Friday the 13th movies and I always agreed with you on the remake, especially with Derek Mears being the best Jason Vorhees. I then went on to watch your review on Rob Zombies Halloween 2 and couldn’t agree with you more! Fell in love with your channel instantly, keep up with the grey context!
Awesome ranking and congrats on 100k
I will contend that I still like Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Putting aside the weak kills, (say for one) it gave Friday fans Kane Hodder's Jason, who is for many fans their favorite portrayal of the character. You have the best look of Jason in this entire franchise, and the iconic sleeping bag kill, and on more personal note, I actually love the character of Tina (NOT the annoying Tina from Halloween 5, Friday the 13th's amazing Tina Shepard) who actually is one of, if not the ONLY final girl who can go toe to toe with Jason with her telekinesis. Plus, I like how sympathetic she is.
You’re 100% right about Hodder’s Jason in Part VII. His stunt work is great, he brings a little more character to it than most, and the design is just awesome. Easily the best Jason in the most butchered movie. If the MPAA let them keep all the good effects and kills, it’d probably be a fan favorite.
@@BareBandSubscription Personally, I don't mind that the movie has weak kills (I mean I'm a fan of the first Halloween and original Psycho film for crying out loud). I usually come to a horror movie for the scares, to see something interesting, and/or a good story and I know that this is an odd thing to say about a Friday the 13th film, but I think Part VII succeeds in the latter two. Seriously, I really felt sorry for Tina and wanted to know how she was going to get out of this.
Jason vs Carrie is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 so is Jason in space to me tho so 😭😭
@@AliFrankTheTank Yeah, I like it when these movies get weird and wild.
Yeah, I'm in this camp too. The side characters get sufficient micro development by this series standards, the adults are better than they've been in prior F13s, and the pacing fills the kills in well, given the multiple connecting threads it has. Tina is good because Jason needs to fight at a lopsided disadvantage for it to be even moderately close, and this feels like that.
Shame about that ending, though.
100k congrats Cody now we gotta get You up to 200k
I applauded the massive balls it took to rank friday the 13th that low I feel the same about that entry
I was also THAT obsessed with Freddy Vs Jason when it came out too. I was 13 too and remember watching every clip, trailer, tv spot, and interview for it. The website ruled and the soundtrack was sick too. It was basically my gateway into metal. While it was heavy on nu metal like Slipknot, Ill Nino, and Spineshank, it also had some gems like Type O Negative, In Flames, Lamb of God, and Sepultura w/ Mike Patton. Like you said, even though the movie isn't a masterpiece or even the best in the series, it was still a moment in history due to all the hype and length it took to finally come out. Overall, it's a very fun watch.
Glad you guys do these!! I watch them all every yr!! 🎃

01. Friday the 13th: Jason Lives (I'm glad this movie is a good one though because it was my first Jason, the first one I ever bought on my own, and the one I always watch when I don't feel good.)
Big F137 advocate, enjoyed the .5-2 character traits they gave each piece of supporting meat, liked the kill pacing and felt like these were your best "adults" so far in the series- Blu and Kiser both fill their (underwritten) roles pretty well, and having a Carrie facsimile able to attack Jason feels sufficiently lopsided to negate some of the "but why does he suddenly have trouble killing this basic kid?" issues that are always the finale of these movies.
Really miss the harshness of the kills and don't like the ending, but I like this one more than most.
Couldn’t agree more on Halloween 4 man. I love 1978, but I’d have to say after rewatching H4 twice in the past week, it’s my second favorite, other than that damn mask. Like you said, once you get past that, H4 is a badass Halloween movie, and has an awesome spooky Halloween aura and vibe. Love the ranking man 🤘🤘

Well done Cody on your milestone 100k subscribers.. it’ll double in no time
Halloween 2018 is a movie that means so much to me. While I understand that there are better movies in this franchise, this was the slasher movie that made me a fan of this franchise. Made me want to learn more about Michael Myers, and slashers in general. So, I have that to thank for it. Even putting that aside though, it has what is hands down the best Myers mask and performance by James Jude Cortney since the original, Lauire is badass, and I like the simplicity of this being about a broken family that comes together in the end to face off against the evil. Even my problems such as Sartain, the Dad, and the humor have become quieter over time with each passing rewatch given how fun this movie is.
Halloween 2018 is what gave me a new found interest on Michael too. I still think its the best sequel the original 1978 will ever have.
@@stansmith8499It's definitely special to this generation of slasher fans.

Also congrats on 100k again ‼️ super crazy I been watching for a few years now and your channel has grown so much really shows how much hard work you gotta put in and I respect it
Always love your takes Cody! Keep ‘em coming 🎃 Happy Halloween 🎃
Congrats on all your success Cody. Been following for a few years now and you’re awesome
Yessssss, I look forward to you doing this video every year now. 😁🤘 And congrats on the 100K Cody!!! Happy Halloween. 🎃🔪
I completely understand your points on the first Friday the 13th. What saves it for me is the beautiful scenery and cinematography. I think the killer POV shots are awesome. It's the only film in the whole franchise where the actual date of Friday the 13th means something AND the only film where the KI KI KI MA MA MA actually makes sense if it's what Pamela is hearing from her ghostly son. Obviously hearing it in the other films doesn't make any sense because how ot why would Jason hear his own voice calling for his mom lol
I understand some of the classic appeal the movie has. I just think it’s a really bad movie. It’s kind of shocking how huge the franchise became with such a flimsy start.
Great video as always man! Love 31 (or in this case 33) on the 31st!
It's gonna be a hell of a debrief now that Cody is on Bryan's side with Friday the 13th (1980)

Jason Lives is top 5 for me, first Friday film I saw in the theater. I enjoyed it so much, I think age has a lot to do with some of the ranking, for instance I was 25 when FvJ came out and remember being so disappointed that a drowned my sorrows in the bar right afterwards lol
How dare you put...........only kidding. Long time watcher. Brilliant as usual.
I feel like the difference between freddys dead and every other film in your list is beyond any distance imaginable 🤣
Lol number 17 😂😂😂👋👋👋👋had me in tears lol
BRO THE CLIP WITH ALEX BEING FORCED TO WATCH FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE, I AM DEAD💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I AM LAUGHING SO HARD💀💀
As for Halloween ends: the Corey-storyline should have taken place over the entire trilogy. With the accident happening basically before Halloween 2018 but, obviously being shown there like a flashback. Then you could have Corey in his quest ressurect Michael (accidantly) to have 2018 happen. And then continue his storyline over kills to have him developed by the end of ends. I mean the scene with the meatgrinder and him standing up is pretty awesome. Its just not quite earned, i feel. Yeah. Lots of ends needed to be in the previous movies to really work out nicely.
Yes! 😊THAT would've made Corey an acceptable and somewhat enjoyable character. 🤔Having the acne riddled asshat teenager that Corey is coming out of nowhere, becoming The Shape, and Mikey not even BEING in the movie until 45 minutes in.....uh, no.😡😡
Congrats on 100K subscribers Cody!
PLEASE put the movie posters and numbers back up in the corners so we know where you are in the list!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I swore I would never watch Rob Zombies Halloween 2, but after hearing you talk about it so many times I wanna revisit it. Does anyone know where the theatrical cut is streaming?
Only way I was able to get the theatrical cut was a 2-pack bluray on amazon
I literally had the same experience with some other UA-camrs and it went from the worst movie in any of these franchises to me to being better than like four other Halloween's.
Thank you for having rob zombies Halloween 2 that high on your list. That’s one of, if not my favorite, Halloween. The atmosphere was awesome. I watch it every Halloween. Love it!
Oh my gosh I’ve been getting all the prior 31’s on my timeline this entire month and somehow I forgot this was going to be happening today! Amazing, as usual!
Always love watching you guys talk about these legendary, badass franchises! Never gets old with you shitting on Freddy’s Dead🤣 much love Cody
•Halloween 2018, Friday the 13th Final Chapter, Jason Lives, Halloween 78, Dream Warriors, Friday the 13th 09 are probably my tops.
•Jason X and Freddy vs Jason i’d put at one and two if it came to rewatching/“if you had to take a movie to a island”.. 😂😂😂😂
Got to watch the original Elm St. and Dream Warriors on the big screen last weekend it was a blast. I agree with most of your rankings much respect bro.
Love the list. Top 10 agree 100%. Season of the Witch was my first intro to Halloween as a kid. Ive never been beholden to the mask. I think it's cool as well whem theyve been able to do something original, like in Zombie's sequel. Jason vs Freddy was best crossover of any horror icons ever. Ton of fun.
That table flip is awesome!
Number 1 either gonna be Dream Warriors, the first NOES, Halloween 1978 or Friday 4 the final chapter
Happy Halloween! Was looking forward to this all month! 🎃
I was one of those stubborn fans that didn't give Season of the Witch a chance because Michael Myers isn't in it. This year, at the start of October, I finally gave it a chance because Cody said it's awesome. Cody is right. I loved it, I thought it was so well done. I really dig the ending. It will definitely be a Spooky Season rewatch in the future. Thanks Cody!
LET'S GOO HAVENT WATCHED BUT THANK YOU SEEM LIKE A GENUINE GUY AND WE appreciate IT. THANKS FOR ALL THE HARD WORK.
Dude congrats on 100k!
Watching this rather late cause my dad and I went to the football game with a friend. Its funny while were there I noticed the stadium used that same Freddy animation that you used when you ranked the Nightmare Kills. I instantly thought of you and that video when I saw it.
Halloween is my favorite franchise and I definitely got the emotional shackles but I’m one of the few that agrees with you on RZ Halloween 2. Same with ends tbh, I love when they do something different. That’s what I want from this franchise is new things! Great video btw!
As a fellow Fred Head, I will play devil's advocate to the extent that Freddy's Dead at least added to the mythology of the series in some ways that really worked well & stuck...

39:23 😎😂🤣😭
About the Friday The 13th “Logic or continuity “ The reason Jason is an adult and not a kid. Well he survived being drowned in 1957 at 11 years. Fast forward to 1979. 22 years go by. That would make him 33 years old. Him being an adult isn’t a logic issue. It makes since that he’s an adult. @Codyleach love your review
omg cody the edit on nightmare 2 😂👍 thanks for the video man this is awesome love when all of you guys do these!
Next year you'll have to include "Halloween Frends" the retcon sequel where Busta replaced Michael with an old burnt paramedic before the wrist slits and Corey shrugs, cracks his neck back into place and hops back up for a trio killing spree.
Congrats on 100k man been watching since late 2017 when you were on I think 3k subs crazy how far you've come and couldn't think of anyone more deserving to reach this milestone.
I found you a few months ago bc of 31 on 31. I feel special that this is my first "fresh" one and I get *TWO* extras on the list.
I watched New Nightmare when I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me. I had zero business watching that move 😂😂😂
Damn man your videos just keep having better and better quality to them. Keep grinding brother.

Happy Halloween Everyone !!
Dream Warriors is without a doubt the best of these movies. Final Chapter is also my favorite Friday the 13th film followed by the remake. It's cool that you're starting to appreciate Halloween 4 more. Cheers.
Gonna defend Friday the 13th (1980) it was my first horror experience and maybe its nostalgia but the kills, pacing and setting were top tier. The characters lacked except the lead actress and Betsy Palmer but overall its tone was fully defined and of course its impact is felt throughout the horror genre. Halloween (1978) set more of a precendent but this film definitely solidified the horror stereotypes so typically shown today.
Thank you for your 33 on 31 - looking forward to the debrief!
I managed to see The Thing on the big screen on Halloween for the 40th anniversary. It's not often you're able to see older films at the cinema, so I jump at the chance.
I went with some friends. Was a good time.
Loving the snippets of other movies you’ve started adding in throughout. Lost it at the R. Lee Ermey Michael Myers 4 mask!😂

I really like Halloween 2 as well, Rob Zombie's, for all the same reasons. It's one of Paul Thomas Anderson's favorite horror films. (director of Boogy Nights/There Will be Blood). Love your channel.
Love Halloween III: Season of the Witch. As much as I like Halloween 2018, I will contend that Halloween III is better than all the Myers sequels because it has great characters, great directing, and a great Halloween story to tell involving the actual holiday itself. Truly an underrated cult classic.
i wouldn’t say better, i would say halloween 2 and h20 are imo, better than Season of the witch
@@mede4085 I respect your opinion; I just find Halloween III to be more enjoyable.
@@mede4085
Halloween II and H20 are pretty mid, imo. I’m not a huge Halloween III guy, but it’s definitely got more going for it than those movies.
@@BareBandSubscription i respectfully disagree, II and H20 are rlly good imo.
@@Merit2397 ill rewatch III and i might rethink my opinion.
Hahaha I loved the quick Multiplicity clip in the RZ's Halloween II slot. I'll have to rewatch that movie
LMAO @ Codys reaction in the background seeing the H4 mask
#1: Friday the 13th 2009 💯
