Regarding the "fake terrorist attack" if you were wondering why there was no punishment, the whole thing was part of a protest/public gathering that was formally announced to the city and was approved, they stated that part of the protest would be a "theatrical performance" and informed the city that airsoft guns and sound effects would be used during it which was also approved and the police apparently inspected the airsoft guns prior to the actual protest. Even tho I doubt the city would approve this if they weren't so vague about the "theatrical performance" they were going to preform.
That excuse makes no sense at all to not arrest someone who exploded a device hurting people. “Oh it’s just a prank, bro, boom!” is not a get out of jail card.
@@TheBooban Well... Czechs have always been master of finding workarounds. No exception I guess.
@@TheBooban Wasn't talking about that one, I meant the guys who pulled up in a jeep dressed up as ISIS.
@@TheBooban@Jandy Reading comprehension much? Do please pay attention to the comment & the part of the video being discussed.
There was a punishment though they got a parking ticket didn’t you listen
What I learned from this video:
If I'm in Prague, I need to have more than 18 people near me so my chances of getting hurt is lower.
18 people near? No problem! ;)
or have less then 18 people near you so bombs dont seek out your group
@@ruudneyens2903 I prefer the less than 18 option.
I would say 18×4... Left, right, front and back.

And then the bombs is below you 👇🏻
👍🏻
Lol.....rofl....lmao
Honza’s been getting better with his cinematic shots
I have been told by a local that tourists should be extra careful with their belongings when watching the Astronomical Clock on the hour, as pickpockets like to place themselves among the crowds of people who are looking up at the clock. (There is a need to be alert for pickpockets wherever there are large numbers of tourists.)
Pozor! Ukradeze!
It´s true, even one of my friends lost her phone this way. And we are Czech and were on a school trip.
It's funny everybody knows about that but you won't see a cop there catching pickpocketers. The same it works for everything illegal in Prague
@@eurobeat_enjoyer Yeah, but tbh if you dont notice him stealing from you, how would an officer notice him in such a huge crowds. You cant really catch them. Also there were officers very close and they were really nice, but they cant really do anything unless its something you can track.
Yes, this is true for many tourist attractions all over the World. It's always better to keep your wallet in the front pocket of your pants, rather than in the outside pocket of your backpack.
I’ve been to Prague several times, and it is one of my favourite cities ever! Thank you for making these great videos!
If I come up Prague, I wanna meet you
I originally presumed you are one of the scammers so my reply to you was gonna be completely and utterly different to this one. I clicked on your name and seen that you have a channel that you've stopped putting up video's on.
I like the idea of one of your video's, the Radiohead/Mandela video so im going to watch that one right now and will come back with a reply about it.
Also.........
......Why you stop posting, your video's genuinely look interesting?
Totally not my thing but i only watched a few minutes.
Anyhow, "Slainte" Sascha have a fantastic rest of your day
@@denisbrady2272 Hi Denis, I have a few video ideas in the making, but have been really lazy lately. However, this summer a few music videos will appear on UA-cam featuring a live session of Me and the The Silent Orchestra at the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchesterhaus (recording in in June). Maybe this will bring a little more life back to my channel …
Cheers, Sascha
That's interesting. I actually wondered why you can't sit on the steps of the Jan Hus monument anymore. But... I have photos from 1994 where the steps weren't fenced off yet.
In 1997 /1998 you could also sit on the steps.
Those are some really sweet trashcans! Great video as always. I used to live in Prague and remember sitting on the steps of the Jan Hus Memorial and talking with the locals - good times!
I'm here in Prague for this weekend, and I'm so glad to know this channel. From the very first moment here, I use these guides to make the best out of these days. Traditional pubs, the way from the airport, secret places(bric a brac, post office, etc.). The snow made it very special too. Thank you very much, I wish in every city would be a same honest guide.
I have visited the Czech Republic twice. I absolutely loved it. One of my favourite things I did was to visit the Kbely Aviation Museum. You should make a video there. It is never mentioned in any Prague tourism information. It is a little far from the usual tourist sites, but well worth a visit in my opinion. I enjoy your videos!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the shutters in the metro stations, some of them can be hermetically sealed and support 200000 people for a number of days
Some of them failed to prevent flooding in 2002, so it's questionable how effective they will be in case of a nuclear attack.
Looking forward to coming in May. Thanks for the info. 😊😊
Thank you for the historical facts! We felt very safe when we visited Prague and can’t wait to return! ~Cara 😊
Olga Hepnarova, somehow you forgot about her. Which is strange especially after you mentioned trucks driving into people…
Well hes obviously reffering only to those attacks that happend after revolution.
5:21 pidgeons attakk 😂😂
When a chemical detector procs, it is set to alarms (emergency services and army). Usually, army is ordered to supervise the decontamination in the metro. Firefighters do have the equipment, but they have limited resources for that (some IR or FTIR detectors, decontamination mixes, etc. but they lack equipment for specific gases).
Není náhodou na Petřinách dislokovaná hasičská chemická služba? Ta by mohla být schopná provádět menší dekontaminaci...
@@karelstanzel9510 Menší dekontaminaci jo - úniky kapalin a pevných látek, únik zemního plynu do tunelů. Detektor v metru měří plyny, takže následuje evakuace prostor a většinou dekontaminace aerosolem (pro představu mechanismus sprejů) - pro chlor a těkavé kyseliny stačí voda, na jiné plyny dle rozhodnutí velitele zásahu. U těchto zásahů jde spíš ve výsledku o spolupráci hasiči (první kontakt) - armáda (velký průšvih) - policisté (pomoc u evakuace osob).
Proč má armáda velitelskou nadřazenost u tohohle typu útoku - př: Tokio 1995. Došlo k útoku sarínem, sekta Óm Širjiknó (nebo něco takového) do prostor Tokijskeho metra vypustila cca 600ml této látky. Chemická jednotka HZS nebyla připravena, neměla dostatečnou výbavu. Výsledek - kvůli zpožděnému zapojení armády 12 mrtvých a cca 3500 zraněných.
Very very very interisting video!!! Thank you soooooo much!!!
He forgot to mention an attack in 1939 by a funny moustache painter
not so funny - behaved as a Karren
I was worried where this was going, but it was very tasteful and informative. Whatever happened help shape the city and now you have statues you can't climb.
This is the first Honest Guide video, i've watched in a while, since I instantly miss Prague whenever i watch these videos
Me too!
Great video!
Send a Super Thanks on one of my videos. I could *really* use the money.
You have a great sounding voice and love your enthusiasm. Subscribed.
In school in Sweden I learned about one attack of Prag, the one the Swedes did in 1648 and the struggle on Karlsbron (Karluv most). It was in connection to the 30 years war, when we learned that it started and ended in Prag.
In school in Germany, I learned that it ended in Osnabrück/Münster with the Peace of Westphalia, but yeah it started there ^^
@@isaakpdmThe Swedish sacking of Prague Castle and the left bank of Prague was the last significant military engagement of the 30 years war and the Swedes only withdrew from Prague after the Treaty of Osnabruck was signed.
So, militarily, you can say the 30 Years' War ended in Prague. Meanwhile, politically it was ended in Muster and Osnabruck
When visiting Prague in 2019, I never felt unsafe in any way. There was a sketchy road we walked on, bc I took the wrong road to the Fashion Arena mall.. but aside from the 12-year-old kids smoking and looking at me in a weird way, nothing happened. Also there was a very nice lady that explained to us that we needed 'neperlivá' water when we looked confused in the water section of the supermarket. Would recommend Prague any day of the week.
I was expecting the heavy trash containers were equipped with something to detect something dangerous/suspicious and it'll alert authorities/people about potential dangers
No, their simple idea is that by placing a bomb into a normal one and setting it off from a distance (so you as an attacker won´t get killed in the process) means tons of flying shrapnels around (including pieces of the trashcan itself) kills many people and creates a chaos, while with those heavy babies this won´t happen, because they can contain quite a strong explosion.
Yes, there is still a possibility of a gas bomb that will suffocate lots of people or other nasty suprises, but those are a lot harder to make home - unlike any cheap explosive package with nails around for maximum effect, so favourite in use in Middle East.
I have a feeling that, at the very least, the roadblock segment was filmed around the last week of November since it looks like they're still putting up the tree and Christmas Market. It would be interesting to find out how long it takes to produce and edit videos like this.
I assume the road blocks are only on entry points where attackers can build up speed before entering the town square.
H.G, 👍👍,great video as usual
Great Video!
Wow nice new fact 🤜🏼 thx bro
WTF the title picture??? Babis campaign inspired?
Good video,informative
Great video thank you. Is there a video you have done about the Siren test? Would love to know the history behind it.
I Love Prague. I have been15 times since 2004. I go to Brno for training with my job. I love to leave the US on Thursday, arrive on Friday and then go to Aquapalace to get some rest and relaxation until Sunday. Then take a taxi to the train station and then take the happy hour train to Brno. Half price food and Pivo... Its almost Brno prices... I arrive to my hotel Sunday evening and sleep well. Show up Monday morning fully recovered from Jet Lag. Then on my way home.. Head to Prague on Friday after class.. Spend Friday and Saturday.. then fly home on Sunday. Such a great City!
You could do movie/music locations shot in Prague like movie Amadeus from 1984 or Never Tear us apart music video from INXS.
An interesting video, finally :D
I hope I can visit prague someday, definitely on my bucket list
Definitely need to do it it is fantastic
Same 😆 🤣 see them paint scammers with there crap on the ground lol make sure a stamp all over it 😄 🤣
He's such a cool guy! i love your content!
I’m surprised by how low the punishments were for those attacks.
That is the case with many punishments here, especially if it is your first sentence.
Loved the history lesson!
Ahoj Janek, honestly, I was expecting to see Anděl-Smichov in such video 😅
Good vid, although you could've also mentioned the 1973 Truck attack by Hepnarová. It was a terrorist attack as well with numerous casualties.
How many casualties? 18? :))
i think he does at 8:56
also the 1940's.
though that would-be whole different video..
@@adrianpetrea8052 8 dead…
@@padddy48 No, that was about more recent car attacks around the world.
Super video👍
You scared the crap out of me with the title. I'll be there in a month!
The grenade incident - I don't get why the sentence length should be influenced by the outcome rather than by the intention.
Has something to do with the intention. If a failure has a lighter punishment than success, then someone who fails has the chance to decide "I don't want to do this anymore, I can still escape the harsher sentence". If it's punished the same, that opportunity/fear isn't there, instead it becomes "my sentence can't get higher anymore, might as well try to finish it and get rid of the witnesses"
Cornering violent animals is a bad idea, you need to give them a way out that doesn't cause more harm
Me and the Wife have just booked a weeks Holiday in Prague and can't wait.🇬🇧👍
When I was in Prague in 1993, we made a group photo with 100 people on the stairs of the statue of Jan Hus (I still have it) . There were no benches or fences back then and you could access the statue.
Great Video Guys. Can you also give your opinion in next video on VSE university Prague fake terrorist's calls during exam times
10:20 is the most brilliant visual gag I have seen on UA-cam. One of you must know the phrase I guess.
I recall when you could see all trash cans in the UK welded over, but that was related to the Nort Irl situation
Yeah Irish immigrants have always been vile and violent NI situatian shouldn't have let Irish into UK from NI or ROI at the start of irish attacks all the Irish with UK citizenship should have been sent to NI and not allowed in Britain and all Irish from ROI/without British citizenship deported back to Ireland and banned from ever entering britain or ROI
Very good video
You're a brave guy. I'm going to Prague, let's meet up!!!
You are professional brilliant video
I'm coming to Prague this April from England. Looking forward to it :D
Janek, I lived in Prague from 1995 and we were sitting on the steps of Jan Hus for several years. Tourists kept tagging it so it was chained off and the garden built.
I just looked on Google maps, the city is so big and I cannot wait to come visit one day!
well this needs to be updated ...
0:39 my mother went to Prague in 1988, how did tourism work in that period? (we're Italians, she went there with her high school class and teacher)
5:21 that pigeon was a paid actor
Hats off to the guy behind the camera
Minus the smoking all over, it's one my favourite city in all my travels in over 10 years. It's the first time I felt I found a city I could actually live in after licking in NYC all of my life. Beautiful city!
Hey man, I just gut my wallet stolen a week ago. It wasn’t in Prague, but s little bit outside (still on Czech). Thanks for your content.
Sarcastically enough, it was stolen from me in a bus while I was watching you guys catching scammers.
Do another one about unsolved murders in Prague and Czechia started from the 60's up to now!
If I remember well in the late 70's or early 80's there was one student in Prague that went home for Christmas, and She was found on the train with her throat sliced.
Was the murderer found?
The worst in that respect were the 90s. Highest criminality on record and plenty of unsolved murders till this day.
Road blocks might actually make sense - they are placed where there is highest risk, i.e. where a car can actually achieve some serious speed and "appear" without warning. Other entrances wouldn't really allow for that, would they? (Genuine question, I'm not from Prague, only visited few times, so I might be wrong ;))
And regarding trashcans - I wonder if they took into consideration the fact, that by using these, they are essentially shaping explosion so that most energy goes upwards, right towards the ceiling. Well, I guess/hope they did indeed ;)
Very lovely Prague ☺️
It's sad to learn of the terrorist attacks on such a beautiful ancient city, and one that always looks so peaceful in your videos. It is slightly unsettling, but not off-putting - planning to visit soon! I also appreciate learning facts about the city that would not be included in other guides! It can be difficult to get a 360° picture of any city, and love that you guys always surprise us!
Greetings from another very safe city, Zagreb! :)
Don't remember any grenade attacks in my city, but I do remember the police department dropping an incendiary bomb from a helicopter on a row house in West Philadelphia. As you can guess it didn't go well, they burnt down the entire city block just to evict the people in that one house ,although it should be noted that the people in that one house had automatic weapons plus explosives. Thanks for letting me know that Prague is in Czechoslovakia, only thing I really remember about your country from history class is that the Brits and the French sold you out to the Nazis to keep peace in their time. I think it was called the sudetenland that was given to Germany? Damn your city looks really nice. Thank you and thumbs up.
about security, what is the reason the beautiful guards in blue uniforms at prague castle were replaced by armed soldiers, and mostly, controls were introduced at the entrance? its just hell on crowdy days... i think it started in 2020 witht the check point at the entrance opposite the tram station...
Something easier for those bins could just be to have a clear plastic bag like many train stations here in the UK have- then things can’t be hidden in it.
I always though the worst attack on Prague was by Swedish army in 1648, when Prague has fallen and many artworks were stolen. Well, actually the german occupation of 1939-1945 was worse.
Beautiful city, three times so far and looking forward to the fourth
It looks like I can do anything in Prague and I'll walk away free!
Yes, the best fun is throwing eggs to politics. 😀
You didn't mention drunk pigeons who attacked little girl in Old town square. 🤨
Anyone remember that?
What? 😄😄
I'm surprised about the complaints about trash in the subway. In traveling around Europe, regardless of the country, it is difficult to find trash cans anywhere. Why? First of all, Europe is not a fast food and disposable society. You don't go into a McDonalds and walk out eating a sandwich and throwing your garbage on the street. Secondly, Europeans have more civic pride than Americans. Trashing your city just isn't done. Now I know that there are exceptions, but largely, I'll stand by my comment.
I am a Spanish living in Central Europe and things differ a lot between countries. Here in Austria it’s a similar case: it’s really difficult to find where to drop your trash and people complain if you use their bins on the street, even for recycling a newspaper. Most of them are actually locked in some kind of shed. That’s really shocking for us Spaniards because this is not true in the case of Spain, however. There are public trash bins everywhere and you are also allowed to use any big trash or recycling container belonging to blocks of buildings if it’s on the street. Even the smallest of towns has public bins, something that cannot be said of Austria.
Depends where you are in Europe because in my city litering is a big problem
What a weird statement to make. Europe has loads of street food far more than the United States. Of course there's complaints about trash in the subway. Even Honest Guide has many videos on street food in Prague.
“Europe doesn’t need trash cans like America because they don’t have fast food.”
That must be the European high IQ I hear about frequently
@@bigchet The original poster doesn't mention his nationality. They claim to have travelled around Europe.
It could be a Canadian.
The worst attack was, when someone established Trdelnik
Just visited Praha, Sep 2023.
Loved the city. Enjoyed our stay very much. Not a very friendly city, but happier than the German folk. But....why should they be happy with the oh so many tourists.
I got all my scam tips and warnings from you.....thank you so much.
Discovered a small underground restaurant called Tlusta Mys.....The Fat Mouse. We loved it!!!!
We never felt unsafe ever....
Prague is a very safe city as far as I can tell from my visit! Very sad what happen on Dec 21 2023 and the killing at Prague University! there is always crazy people! that's life!
In the UK we just have binbags blowing in the breeze
I wish to visit your lovely city one day.

Prague city staff and officials be like: "alright Janek has a new video, let's see what we can learn about our city and how we can improve it"
i remember sitting at a casino there with my garndmom some good time back . and not 1 week after we left a handgranade was thrown at the Casino
Hi, I’ve been watching your channel for years now, actually met you in Prague this summer. You occasionally post videos about the revolution, I’m curious of your opinion on the Pavel and Babiš presidential run.
Praha je docela bezpečná, ale ona je absolutně vinná z zločinu. Jak řekli bychom v angličtině, Praha stole my heart.
Interesting - though I have the feeling that I set on the steps of Jan Hus sometime in the first years of the 1990's.
Thanks Janek & Honza for the interesting video. I cant help but think that those terrorist posers would have been smoked in many other countries. But the parking ticket of banishment prevailed..... oh and moc dobre Cesky Pivo. Best in the world to be exact. ;-)
Yes we know it and we have been proud od it!!!!
I found this style of video interesting. And will watch if you do more.
Regarding the "fake ISIS" attack staged by Czech ultranationalists, I remember reading an article about it, describing the reactions of people working nearby. The best was a shop owner from the Jewish quarter (Josefov), which is nearby. Having an experience of living in Israel, once he heard the shots, he grabbed his gun, went outside to guard his shop. He then said that these idiots were lucky he wasn't at the square, cause if he'd been around when ISIS-looking guys appeared shooting, he would've shot at them.
You do yourself and the city a great honour. Keep it up.
crazy that the guy with tube bombs wasnt caught and didnt strike again
Grenade attacks like the one you mentioned are commonplace in Sweden.
Utok sounds like it could've been a duck attack! :)
You could still sit on the Jan Hus statue when I was there in 1992, so it is later in the 90ties that wasnt allowed anymore.
Hi Janek, how do you find out the information, like the cost of the garbage cans or the gas vents? I am curious if your method can be applied to my city!
As a czech myself .either its on some websites or writen on the thing itself.but sometimes its a bit harder
all purchases institutions do have to be published on some website
Probably checked the official website of Prague and found the page that's dedicated to the purchasing orders the city has made.
You should try Maltego
That's why I go to Prague by train. 😂
I honestly heard tourist attack a few times :)
I expected you to spoke about Olga Hepnarová
Actually, there was one more granade in the city :) In 2009 exploded a granade in a restaurant U Českého Lva, where a guy brought it in a suitcase and it probably exploded by a mistake.
