Some good tips for sure, but just not working out for me. I always try to interact with my followers on Instagram by asking them what their thoughts/interpretations are, etc. but I never really seem to get any responses. I notice that only popular artists or artists with 200+ followers usually get comments from people about how nice their art is. I also try to build friendships but the other parties don't seem interested in talking. Honestly kind of feels like I'm wasting my time and effort :(
I feel the same way. I spend a lot of time on my art and people almost never notice it. The only person who always sees my art is my bff,but that's not enough..? Because of that I developed a nasty habit of being desperate for attention,it sucks :(
Ik this is easier said than done but never give up!! It could take 10 years to get noticed but we owe it to ourselves to follow our heart :) plus you'll only get better with practice so keep grinding and eventually(/hopefully) ppl will notice your talents
I love interacting with my viewers/followers, they are always soo awesome and sweet, although I have quite a small audience so I wouldn't know how it feels to be unable to reply to every comment XD
I've actually tried most of these tips but even then my accounts aren't really that popular or have a decent following... I do want art friends since I just have like two or three, but it just seems that every artist whose I art I like feels like they're so big they probably already have a group of friends or wouldn't care about a random person like me (I even once tried to talk with someone but there was almost to non contact whatsoever) I really don't need a follwing right now but I just want people to check my art and hopefully point out mistakes that my art usually has, I barely receive any critiques that actually do that
A social media platform I love is art amino... or just the amino apps in general, for example I like photography and live the photography amino as well!!
One thing she forgot to mention is to know what criticisms are positive and which are negative. For example, if someone said, “That looks pretty good, except the shading is a little weird. Could I suggest a better brush for that?” Vs if someone said, “Your shading looks sh*t! Quit drawing it’s obviously a waste of time!”. It’s pretty clear which one is positive or negative in my example, but sometimes it’s a little more complicated, so I guess just keep and eye out for language and stuff. I’m not trying to sound like I know everything, btw, I just don’t like it when people take criticism the wrong way.
Network network network it’s the name of the game. That a big part of a successful business. The more people you know the better your success you will have. One thing I like to do is to search out small artist channels and interact with them. It supports each other and the community.
I post my art in the Art Amino app and I’ve gotten so much support there during my art journey. I’ve been featured on the front page a number of times and it’s just a wonderful space where I’ve found it’s hard to have a voice on Instagram or UA-cam because of the volume of content, especially when I’m just starting out. I really appreciate your advice videos, thank you! 😊
FB has become such a pain. If you’re lucky, 7% of your FB friends and/or followers actually get to see your new posts. For me, it really was a social thing. Especially since all the message boards moved to FB as FB groups. I just wanted to keep in touch. Well, I guess I lost many online friends. Thanks for that, Mark! I find IG great. Have made quite some new friends. Another thing I like, is I can choose who to follow instead of needing to become friends. For IG I choose to have it all about art. Okay and some utterly cute animal accounts, some of them I use for inspiration. The big plus is that I can escape all the drama. The accounts I follow are all about art. The friends I made, want to focus on art and sharing positive energy. And that’s the same I share on my account. I love YT. Still in the learning process for making my own content though. It’s not an easy thing to make videos. I’m mostly following here and interacting in the comment section. I never understood the fun of Twitter. The maximum of 140 characters is killing and most of the people I followed weren’t that interesting (but thought they were). For brands, it seemed nothing but advertising new products. And most of the content was a repost from their IG account. There was just one reason to start using Twitter. At the time it was the only place Sinéad O’Connor was active on and it was so much fun to connect with her. Until she got ill and the rants began of which I thought it wasn’t for my eyes. And the trolls were attracted to it like bears to honey. I think I haven’t really been on Twitter anymore since she left there.
Even though this post is 2 years old I feel it has alot of great pointers for beginners but not for professionals. All of these tips I've tried myself and it seems to very steadily get my name out there. I feel the popular artist over shadow the newbies alot so it's hard for professionals with under 3k followers to get out there. Example of experience I've had "Oh your arts cool but Jadien Animations Odd ones out is better". People compare too much when every artist has their own style. I'm determined to keep trying but it's also alot harder I feel on, youtube, furaffinity, tumblr and patreon. Especially getting them to come over to other socials, my big following comes from instagram, deviantart and Facebook. Even though they have accounts its very hard to get my community to come over to the other socials and give them love. Again great video but yeah, I feel people need to be realistic about this stuff and be honest. Not everyone can make it to professional artist and become popular. I feel it takes alot longer for some.
I certainly need to work on my consistency on my socials! I go through bouts of posting every day and then stopping for like a week and a half when I lose interest, but this vid re-assured me that I just need to keep working at my consistency. Thank you very much and I hope to be impressed by your future uploads!
it does makes sense though, even for Facebook, there's not much going on there. But now in this month, Tumblr artists get kicked out for stupid reasons and moved to Twitter to gather around and connect with more people, even I post things much professional, same as instagram. But youtube, it's a great idea to have professionalism there but it just takes a lot of work and have more responsibility for making videos, and I'm still in progress though. I mean I don't actually make videos, I just find so many artists just to show some of the videos of tutorials and speedpaints which is good for all to have a learning experience. It's some good tips you've brought up to those whose on their path to become a professional. Keep up the good work
This chalk board "animation" is great. I greatly enjoyed your choices to concise the lines to the essentials without loosing the charm. Biiiiig thumps up from me.
Deviantart is another big one. Nice advice, and I really like how simple the character on the chalk board is, as well as it looking like it was drawn with chalk on a chalk board
Omg I’ve been following this channel since I started drawing! It taught me my first lessons! I got to thank you art ala carte, because of you and your help I’ve been able to get into an art academy! These vids helped me start off! I hope it will help others in the same way!
Thanks, I just joined up on Redbubble and Instagram, now I’m trying to get followers and hopefully people who will order some of my artwork that is professionally printed on multiple products. Everything you mentioned on your video is great advice. Putting time in learning/studying and making it all happen on the computer ( & I’m not Mr. Computer for sure) it’s time consuming, but I’m ” IN” to try my best. Thanks again
Love this! And I totally agree with the don't over do it. I have an art account on instagram and after a while I felt like I had to much of a pressure to post art even if I wasn't happy with it and I was currently doing a sport and I have school so I took a few weeks off. And I agree that you shouldn't just leave your page to die because I knew I would lose followers when I did this and I did which is fine. But I think it helps a lot if you need to, to take a break and work more on your art then on the art other people are pushing you to draw
I have a bunch of other social media channels :) I mainly use 3 (facebook, instagram, youtube) and the others tag along for the ride with some automated content and the occasional manual posts. Twitter, Pinterest, tumblr, and many more. I've grown a fairly large following over the years and I love connecting with them. I'm super consistent on the channels I focus on. Unfortunately, there has to be something I have to tweak for people to take the steps from social media to website visits, email list, and sales.
I found that this website called Scratch is a really good place to start for young artists. Though this website is mainly for beginner programming, there is also a whole ton of artists there who can give feedback, do collabs, people can just share their art, and more!
I absolutely love your videos. I have been trying to figure out how to start a UA-cam channel for my art as well but... I also have an almost 18month old who has pretty much all of my time lol... your videos are a huge help in understanding some of the process in starting
I wish I had an audience to interact with. I really wish I could get someone to rate/review my channel bc I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Like, are my videos boring? Are they annoying? I just have no idea what the issue is 😩
I've been trying to interact with artists slowly because I don't want to feel like I'm a bother so I'd just keep it simple. Them responding is a rarity. I use, DA, Twitter and Facebook mainly so it's easy enough.
I’m thinking of starting an art channel to expand my Instagram art, so this was very informative and I appreciate it! Expand the art community without competing. Thank you!
I've been watching your vids for awhile now and you always have great content. I especially like this one because it seems pretty difficult to get people to watch my vids on UA-cam. I've just started so my expectations are low at the moment, but I will definitely use some of these tips. Thanks so much!
Hey Val, I love your art. And this series has helped me out so much. I am a young artist and these videos have taught me quite a bit. I'm going to do the 100 Character Challenge on my channel, and I wanted to make sure that was ok. I also tagged you in it, I don't really know what that does, but I wanted to make sure I was giving credit where credit was due. If you would like me to remove the tag and/or not post the video, let me know. Have a great day.
This is so helpful especially that I am trying to build a name for myself now :) I am glad you did this series it's really beneficial to many people out there!
Kind of wish I'd seen this video when I was just starting out. I jumped into as many websites as I could and because of that I couldn't keep up with any of them. Right now I'm mainly Instagram and Tumblr, though I also use UA-cam, Vimeo, Artstation, and DeviantArt. I'm active enough for my taste on Deviantart, though I really want to be more active on UA-cam with posting and stuff. I also use Discord, though more for personal stuff than for art stuff. It's really great for making art friends though!
deviant art is another cool place too share art meet artists and get some commission work. on a different note @ 5:30 on the video "NEW VIDEO FREE COOKIES" was so funny yet effective. you can't say no to cookies .
Oh my goodness-thank you so much for this video! I've been struggling a lot with this problem and this tutorial helps a lot :D I (and I'm sure many other artists) appreciate this 101 series so much!
Great video. That is the first one of your videos I've seen and I will watch more. I am just starting off so bums on seats is definitely an issue. I have promoted my last few videos on all of the social media channels you mentioned. Strangely enough the one the brings more traffic then the rest for me is Reddit. I am not sure why. 😊🤔
Very helpful! I'm super glad you made one of these, cause I just recently started doing social media more than before and feel kind of lost sometimes! Also, very cute drawings in this! :)
hii.. got this video from google search...!! BINGO it was for me, as i am wanting to setup my Fashion Illustration content page. but i am still dicy on what platforms to be primary on...! no great with video shooting yet.
I post a LOT of my art on an Amino called Arts and OCs. I also animate so i also post some of my animations on the Animation Art + MAP Amino using the same name i do on youtube, ⓑⓛⓤⓔⓕⓞⓧ. Plus i post my animations on youtube just to kinda put myself more out there, y'know?
youtube used to have reply with your own video option. Since they took it away there is no way for smaller youtubers to get noticed now.. yes you can still leave a comment and that how you get around in the community but its not as leaving a video response , where you can get creative.
Honestly I cross promote so much, and it isn’t helping much. One of my videos I spent a lot of time on and put it on insta and several aminos, but hardly anyone noticed it, and I’m actually loosing subs. I thought opening clay LPS commissions would get me more noticed but I’m so unnoticed not a single person wants a commission, lmao. Don’t know if I’ll ever get really noticed. Thanks for the tips though!
I'm 12 right now and then I start thinking my art is bad a couple months later, being super self-conscious about my artwork. Also I'm not a good digital artist so that might take away a lot.
The creator of One Punch Man ONE struggled with this very thing but managed to build an audience for his webcomic with his crude drawings. An audience that still grows to this day. Just keep putting the work in and don't forget to love of drawing.
Hey, I have pretty small audience, but I love interacting with them. My problem is that I don't get many comments. I've heard a good way to get them is to ask questions, but I'm already doing that in all of my videos. What can I do to get more interaction?
I have an art group on Facebook called Art 101. It's an inspiring art group that allows any type of art, including photography. I don't allow nudity artwork because that's against Facebook rules and I could get reported and lose my group.
This video helps a lot but how to I get people to collab with me when I only have 23 subscribers and all the people I watch are mega popular? I don't have any people I watch under the 1,000 subscribers mark except for one person. But at the same time I don't wanna ask people to collab with because one, weirdos, two I don't wanna come across rude, three I'm kinda just too shy about that and four I don't wanna taint people's reputation by asking them to collabs with me when they have 2,300 subs and I have 23. Any advice?
Everyone's art journey is a bit different so what worked for me might not be the best fit for you. I worked a good year on putting good content on my channel before I started collabs. During that time, I did fun challenges and tutorials which helped build my sub base. It isn't a fast process and other channels have grown faster.
I absolutely know how you feel! I have a bit more but nowhere near the 1000 subs. So I´m not even sure if I should ask people that have quiet a bit more then me. BUT there are some people that look more if the artist is near your skill level and not only how many subs you have :) Sadly not many, but there are some :)
I created my UA-cam channel for Inktober, and I met several small channel owners and we sometimes give each other prompts and draw the suggestions in our own way. It's cool seeing how one idea can be interpreted in so many different ways and styles
I only just began doing collabs. It took me a long time to gain enough subscribers to feel like I was ready to ask for a collab... but I ended up getting asked to do one by making friends with another youtuber who had way more subs than me. If you have low sub count, instead of focusing on trying to get a collab you could focus on making great videos and finding friends :) this is what worked well for me. It def takes a bit of time.
I recently found one call PaigeeWorld. Its really an amazing community and so far no trolls! And I think everyone knows Pinterest! Yet there's one thing that stops me most of the time I post something. How can I make sure my art doesn't get rip off/ copyrighted/ stolen/ or copy?
This is actually a pretty nice video. I wanna get popular for drawing Countryhumans and maybe Mushishi but for the FB situations, infeel very safe around my family and want to be popular for CH art and Statehumans or MAPs but I'm very sensitive though especially to hate or even simple things .. Please help me also :P
no matter what you create, there will be people who like it and those who don't. So create art because it brings you joy and that joy can spread to others.
Ok, I'll be the person that everyone hates: If this video is just an FYI for your subscribers, it's probably not be important. If you're going to re-use this video for some other, more professional distribution in the future, it might be worth noting that the word "professional" only has one "f" in it. (See your chart at 6:00).
so i remember a while back a wrote a really scathing comment on one of your videos that was completely unnecessary and out of character for me. idk why i was so angry, it was a video where you tested sharpies, and i wrote a paragraph-long comment about how much i hate you. later, you went onto my channel and saw one of my uploads, and since i was embarrassed, i dont think i apologized. i just realized that i'd forgotten, and i do actually feel sorry. i'll have to check if i deleted the video, but i probably did. this is the first video ive stumbled upon of yours in about a year since i wrote that comment, so im taking the time to apologize and accept what i did was wrong. honestly, i think you've forgotten by now, but i guess my guilt goblin didnt let me forget. if anyone has read this, i hope that they realize that those trolls and haters are still people behind the screen. you dont know whats going on in their life, and this may just be a one time thing. so, yeah. i guess thats it.
Thank you for this comment, it shows such insight and wisdom. I do remember you and hold no bad feelings towards you at all. I admire your courage and conviction to come back after so long and make things right. I really means a lot to me. Also know, your comment wasn't that bad. ... compared to some out there! Keep shinning and encouraging others!
I´m having trouble with getting followers on social media. Take instagram for example. I startet posting a lot more in the last time and g0t followers everytime I did but a few days later they are gone again.,which is really frustrating. I thought about taking more time to do youtube videos, too, because I couldn´t upload new videos while I was working full-time and now I´ve got the time to upload regulary but with the new youtube rules of having 1000 subscribers to monetarize it´s pretty hard to find the motivation if I can´t even get more than 70 followers on instagram. I´m far away from 1000 subscribers at the moment.
Some good tips for sure, but just not working out for me. When she said reply comments. My tears went 💧💧. I want to reply everything but no one comments me...
😓
Hey what’s ur art social media handle? we can be art friends :)
I love interacting with my viewers/followers, they are always soo awesome and sweet, although I have quite a small audience so I wouldn't know how it feels to be unable to reply to every comment XD
MyArtJourney hey I Subbed to you 😊😊😊 hopefully you'll check me out too
Nyani Cat Awe thanks! Will do!
Hey what’s ur art social media handle? we can be art friends :)
I just hope some of them are not salty and drama though.
I just started posting art on social media frequently
where do you post and what is your user?
I post on twitter and i draw and shade my username is AK legend
@@blueleegin9298 you gained a new follower!
I've actually tried most of these tips but even then my accounts aren't really that popular or have a decent following... Don’t give up just keep trying !!!
Ik this is old, but what’s your Instagram? (Assuming you have one...?)

Doing an art contest defiantly get's you subs but they are not loyal though.
ParadiseofDarkness contest? Or did u mean challenge?
FB has become such a pain. If you’re lucky, 7% of your FB friends and/or followers actually get to see your new posts. For me, it really was a social thing. Especially since all the message boards moved to FB as FB groups. I just wanted to keep in touch. Well, I guess I lost many online friends. Thanks for that, Mark!

Me:okay, im gonna be productive and edit some videos
*sees Art ala Carte video*
Me: screw responsibilities.
I have definitely narrowed down my Social Media that I share as an artist to a few I use the most and enjoy using.

One tip, in insta don't put random hashtags cause if you do it too much you will be more likely get those "free follower" accounts and weird accounts

Just to let you know ...I was just site on Google and I was about to type something and your video happened to pop up...I'm like uuuuu!!!
I have to say the little cartoon in your video is so fun and kept me involved. This had to take a long time well done.
Very useful, thank you for making this! I'm always looking for growth in anyway and always happy to support fellow artists! 😁😁

Woooo!! Early! Actually was looking for this yesterday! Not even joking!😂😂😂❤️😊😊❤️
I found that this website called Scratch is a really good place to start for young artists. Though this website is mainly for beginner programming, there is also a whole ton of artists there who can give feedback, do collabs, people can just share their art, and more!

for the 100 character drawing chalenge is there a hastag to use so that we can all see everyones' progress? also your videos are amazing.
Doodling Cami I was just going to ask that. It'd be a great way to get to know people and share our work.
I love watching all of your video...you have a wonderful voice...and your videos help me a lot in my art works..
Hi. Thank you so much for the advice. I will use this for my channel too.😊
That you for this information! Super informative! Definitely going to take all this in to improve my channel and social media!
Hey Val,
I love your art. And this series has helped me out so much. I am a young artist and these videos have taught me quite a bit. That's Great!! I can't wait to see what you create! Thanks for the tag!
This is so helpful especially that I am trying to build a name for myself now :) I am glad you did this series it's really beneficial to many people out there!
You've been great with talking with your watchers.
Its easy when you are all so much fun to talk to!
I really loved this! Especially how you explained how you use each social media and for what, really helpful! 🙂 love your artwork! 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge as always :) I will be putting some of these great tips to use!! -Ara
Very helpful! I'm super glad you made one of these, cause I just recently started doing social media more than before and feel kind of lost sometimes!
Also, very cute drawings in this! :)
Really good advise! Thanks for sharing!
Great video, good timing for me too since I've been working a lot on tweeking my social media presence since I started traveling Asia
I knew most of this already, but it's really good stuff for beginners! Good video!
Love this and is so helpful! Love u and ur art! 🎉❤️💛💚💙💜💖
hii.. got this video from google search...!! BINGO it was for me, as i am wanting to setup my Fashion Illustration content page.
but i am still dicy on what platforms to be primary on...! no great with video shooting yet.
I'm slowly coming around to twitter... I can't come around to Facebook for some reason haha :P
Earlyish you're awesome... thanks for the video.... these are very helpful
Goodness, it really is hard to get noticed. I'll try some of Your advice though! Thanks. 😊
OMG! I love this video. Very good info and you made me laugh
Hi
I know this is an old video, BUT I wanted to say this video really helped me out and keep up the good work!
Thank you,is really helpful,I think I gonna do some speed paint video in furture, may I ask any screen record suggestion?
Subscribed. You have great information.
Thank you for these tips
I post a LOT of my art on an Amino called Arts and OCs. I also animate so i also post some of my animations on the Animation Art + MAP Amino using the same name i do on youtube, ⓑⓛⓤⓔⓕⓞⓧ. Plus i post my animations on youtube just to kinda put myself more out there, y'know?
The intro song is so catchy I just have to do a little dance along with it. :D
Love you r art👍
I love this series so helpful!
I'm finally early. Also, love your vids
Hey hey. Thanks for the tips. XD I actually have issues with posting videos. Just because its so much of a cluster to make multiple accounts.
youtube used to have reply with your own video option. Since they took it away there is no way for smaller youtubers to get noticed now.. yes you can still leave a comment and that how you get around in the community but its not as leaving a video response , where you can get creative.
I do miss the video response option. It was so fun!
How do you promote a UA-cam video on Instagram? I’ve tried, but it doesn’t allow me to link back to UA-cam. 😢
Thanks for the tips though!
what do you think about using deviantart as a platform for marketing and promoting arts n crafts.?
Yay, first ❣️🇦🇺
Really Helpful!
Thank you!
Thanks.
Under UA-cam you spelled Professional wrong haha. Loved the video as always. Very informative
I was wondering if anyone would catch that! The problem of staying up till 2am to finish the video.... But hey, I now know who is paying attention!!
this Video is really helpful thank you :)
i hope my art gets me somewhere someday
YES THANK YOU
I am smol bean who has a smol channel so this will help
Hey, I have pretty small audience, but I love interacting with them. My problem is that I don't get many comments. I've heard a good way to get them is to ask questions, but I'm already doing that in all of my videos. What can I do to get more interaction?
I have an art group on Facebook called Art 101. It's an inspiring art group that allows any type of art, including photography. I don't allow nudity artwork because that's against Facebook rules and I could get reported and lose my group.
Your so Amazing!!
Nine years on DeviantArt and still unnoticed
Arro's Art (I have even less subs) but it takes time to gain a following. :)
How is your zene going( is that how you spell it. 🤔)
i believe that it is spelled "zine" :)
Essa Art Thankyou😁
I wonder how long it’ll take me to build a base of viewers in a year
Ok, I'll be the person that everyone hates: If this video is just an FYI for your subscribers, it's probably not be important. If you're going to re-use this video for some other, more professional distribution in the future, it might be worth noting that the word "professional" only has one "f" in it. (See your chart at 6:00).
And viewers is with ie not ei
so i remember a while back a wrote a really scathing comment on one of your videos that was completely unnecessary and out of character for me. idk why i was so angry, it was a video where you tested sharpies, and i wrote a paragraph-long comment about how much i hate you. later, you went onto my channel and saw one of my uploads, and since i was embarrassed, i dont think i apologized. i just realized that i'd forgotten, and i do actually feel sorry. i'll have to check if i deleted the video, but i probably did.
this is the first video ive stumbled upon of yours in about a year since i wrote that comment, so im taking the time to apologize and accept what i did was wrong. honestly, i think you've forgotten by now, but i guess my guilt goblin didnt let me forget.
if anyone has read this, i hope that they realize that those trolls and haters are still people behind the screen. you dont know whats going on in their life, and this may just be a one time thing.
so, yeah. i guess thats it.
Don’t loose heart. I didn’t even start monetizing my channel until I want well over 1000. I just focused on building good content. Never give up!
I use Instagram and Snapchat also....but still😥
NOTICE ME SENPAI LOVE YOUR CHANNEL SORRY IM LATE❤️❤️❤️
