i saw this episode 7 months after because i found out about Tom Bilyeu recently but what i want to say is that Tom, thanks for this episode. To put it short, this shit is Fu****g mind blowing! over a year ago i decided to change my mindset and noticed that as i did that i had a more open mind. open to discovery and understanding more things and being more curious but listening to David although my mind is pretty open now its still Fu****g closed compared to how much there is to discover! this just pushes me more to learn more and become more! Thanks alot because also even if your guest is an intelligent one, its no good if you dont ask those outstanding questions!

Tom, seriously, brother, I've been following this show for the last 3 months RELIGIOUSLY. I cannot thank you enough for introducing me to these people, concepts, and ideas. My perception and mindset have greatly been influenced by this show. Every time I watch this show I walk away invigorated, enthralled, and pumped for action and creation. Like @joan climent's comment below : Right guy, right time. And you've been right for the last little while. I hope you keep doing what you're doing cuz I really think this show will gain AMAZING traction and that we who are watching it right now are just the "early adopters". Parting note : most of my teenhood idols/mentors were rock singers. I recently read the biography of my most revered icon and retained two things. 1. He had, from a very early age, great awareness of his gut instincts. He constantly took leaps of faith during his artistic career that has seen him be the frontman of 3 amazingly successful bands. And has toured with all 3 bands in one year (I think it was 2014 or 2015. I think.) and 2. He's an entrepreneur that I think many other entrepreneurs could learn from in the vein of "how Creativity can influence your Business." He moved to Arizona, started tilling the land, built a vineyard, and raised Arizona's presence on the Global Wine Market, by FOLLOWING-UP ON A DREAM HE HAD, like an actual dream, the ones you get at night when you're sleeping, or maybe it was through an ayahuasca trip, nonetheless: a vision. I think MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN would be a great fit for the show. My mind would explode to see the two of you chat it out. Teenhood icon and adulthood mentor in one room. I'm like Yanik. Growing up my icons were frontmen like Maynard. I don't know what my mind would do if Tom had Maynard on the show. It would be like a collision of worlds. Considering the lyrical content of Tool and already having had guests like Jamie Wheal and Jason Silva (and Kotler of course) I actually think Maynard would make a great contribution.
When Maynard was in Green Jelly, the goal was literally to make their music as bad as possible. Later on, they formed Tool and inverted that philosophy, taking everything they knew about bad music and turning it around. Maynard has also referenced some of his lyrics as taking what you hate about others, and then turning that in on yourself - you find some very interesting things by doing that. A couple of examples that strike me as being in the same lane as what you're doing here on It!
Fascinating interview! This and the interview with Moran Cerf has opened my mind to the enormous possibilities our brain has. Loving how habits like meditating can be scientifically proven to alter the brains wiring. If you combine the knowledge of how the brain works with a curiosity that leads you to mentioned meditating, cold showers, visualizing and a number of other recommended habits, there seems to really be virtually a limitless potential to yourself as a human being. I strongly believe this is only the start of people becoming more self-aware and "awake". In a few decades, using habits to deliberately "program" the brain will be as common as checking Facebook is these days. Its a very exciting time to be alive, and I get so pumped up by watching interviews like this. Loving how there`s this endless spiral of books, theories, research and what have you on how the brain ourselves work, and how they all seem to support each others claims. Becoming addicted to the part of applying all this knowledge sure is awesome! Thank you Tom!
SUM gave me this sense of just how incredible the world we live in his. If just one natural law was altered, our entire way of living would be different if we even could thrive in that instance. All the shit that came together for us to exist on this planet as we do is awe-inspiring! It’s almost like every possible thing was considered then some insanely creative genius set all these rules to ensure we could be. It’s hard to imagine our existence in the absence of something much bigger than us.
Dude, I'm SO happy you interviewed David! I ordered his book Sum last week (starting it next week) and definitely intend to check out Incognito soon. But what really excited me was when I saw his face. I knew I recognized him, but couldn't figure out from where. It was the Sadhguru interview! I've followed Sadhguru for a while and remember loving that interview a while back. I specifically remember thinking that the interviewer was fantastic. So cool that this is him!
Really interesting parallels between what David said during this interview and what Sadhguru said in the interview David did with him, that you referred to. Fascinating how similar the message and understanding are between two cosmically different perspectives (or are they?!) (paraphrased) SADHGURU: "As you approach it, as you study and look at it, it will take on a trillion new forms." DAVID: "The more you know as a scientist, the more answers you receive, the more questions are spawned because the world of possibility has expanded." SADHGURU: "At some point we reach a place where the present faculties will not be enough (the five senses)." DAVID: "Scientists are already reaching beyond the ability of our human faculties of perception and understanding by using equations and technologies that reach beyond and give us small glimpses of understanding what we cannot truly grasp." He also spoke of his main goal of expanding human perception to include additional senses. Interestingly, science originated as a pursuit to gain understanding of the spiritual nature of existence, at a time when people were disenfranchised with the religious authority of the time and the old western paradigm of reality. Science veered off it's original quest for centuries yet today had begun to, often without realizing it, come full circle with answers to those original spiritual questions.

Neuroscientists know their stuff so well. I think he interviews psychologists and neuroscientists on purpose to gain a vast understanding of something so grandly seen in the world because we created it, but also so shrouded in mystery.

The way David views the world is fascinating and it makes you realize that the world and universe are fascinating!!! There are so many things that we take for granted or things we don't know. It's been bothering me immensely how some scientists have been radicalizing their religion of extremist atheist. I find it also unscientific to just dismiss ALL opinions of the other and haven't got an ounce of curiosity left to examine other possibilities. My Albert would have never been that rude and you, David, continue his path. * All science is the history of knowledge until that moment. * I believe full rehabilitation should be a constitutional right, if possible (& if not possible 2 find a solution). Otherwise the justice system commits an act of omission and should be held fully responsibly for any re-offending. It is a massive FAIL in their duty to protect the public. ... a lofty dream of mine... Get him back soon Tom.

Your philosophy and what impact very stands for continues to shape my thinking and what's possible for myself. Hi Tom, Amazing interview... I have been listening to your talks and interviews from a long time and it has helped me tremendously in changing my mindset.. One thing though, Sadhguru is one of my mentors in my spiritual journey in finding myself. I guess u have not heard him speak on subjects like happiness and focus. I was a bit taken aback when u comparing him to a cartoon character.. His way of teaching is very scientific and no nonsense kind..
I'm super fascinated by Sadhguru! I was trying compliment him, not insult him. I was just surprised by seeing someone with such a dramatically non-western style in a traditional-format interview with a very western-styled interviewer. The juxtaposition was interesting. Just my own limited frame of reference around appearance revealing itself. I actually want to get Sadhguru on the show. There's clearly much I could learn.

I loveee this episode!! thank you so much for sharing this with us! Read his book and watched some interviews with David and he is fascinating! I like the idea that we are deceived by our own brains and still we fall for it. And that there are different things we cannot notice or observe but they exist out there in the world, the same with our possibilities, they are out there, right now, but we have difficulty noticing them and assume if we don't see them they are non-existent.

I discovered David Eagleman on TED talks and he is asking very similar questions to what has interested me for ever but he answers them in different and sometimes better ways. I have wondered why just electrical pulses become experiences and how perception builds our world. I really dont recommend this but I have taken a lot of mushrooms in my youth and I have seen sounds coming out of a speaker and I still knew what the music was and I would have been able to see it through soundproof glass and I would have seen the music. I believe it's called synesthesia (probably spelled that wrong) It was very strange and doesnt seem possible now I have typed it and read it but it is a real thing, although i cannot explain it.
Aside from the interview itself, I've kept trying to pin down what's wrong with the audio and I believe I figured it out. It's the room reverb - it rings a lot in the mids. So to whoever does the sound, try a dynamic eq that cuts the mids below the threshold (set just below your voice) and that should get rid of the boxiness of the room.
Great interview. Glad you guys worked it all out in one interview. found that more enjoyable than the actual interview. Not to say the talk wasn't interesting, it was... Just to see communication on such different levels is great. I wouldn't call it super human, I would just call it human, and it's a step towards remembering who we truly are. That's missing from television where things like that get cut.

Just something I noticed after watching David's TED talk, and then a few more interviews over the years, is that the cost of the wearable haptic hearing device is rising dramatically. In the TED talk he said it was around $40 (may have meant $40 in materials, but still), in another interview in Australia he said a couple hundred bucks, and here he stated $1000. That's a big difference and will start to exclude the market that could afford it.
This is a really mind-expanding interview. I always like neuroscientists because while everyone is saying their opinion, they come in and disrupt everyone. They're also good at articulating themselves because they have a sort of intuitive understanding of the things they synthesize in their own minds because they spend their time studying the mind. Also, do you think you can get Donald Trump on? that would be interesting to see, (I'm joking, but if you did that would be interesting nonetheless.)
Tom, you've mentioned how you do this a few times, but I find it so cool and funny that the shirt you wear is specifically related to the interviewee. It's always fun to try and see how the shirt relates . Sometimes it's obvious and other times , not so much.

I have an idea that when babies are born (and even when in the womb) the loving care creates a chemical that starts the brain off to choose the good puppet and vice versa. With trauma early in life that is pervasive (neglect, abuse) the chemical is negative and affects the brain’s development. If it’s the later, one behaves without empathy. I am curious how emotions and feelings are generated by the brain. Why some people are shy and others confident? I know that confidence is earned having experience, but is it a shortcut for that? Nowadays is very important to have confidence in every area if you want to succeed.

Is there a scientific reason why you have that blue background on the videos/in the studio? It calls to me and the question has come up in my mind a few times and I think there is a reason(s). I had to get the book Sum just from the intro and wow the first story. I'm rethinking how I sit, touch, what I would be happy to do in heaven for hours straight on repeat and what would drive me mad or irritate me or surprise me. Fabulous unconscious message in that story to wake up more neurons of awareness in us. I have watched your interview with Joe Dispenza a few times, and with what Joe Dispenza teaches us, it makes me wonder if, as David says at the end of the first story in the book about 'the joy of jumping from one event to the next like a child hopping from spot to spot on the brning sand', is that a Matrix control, an unconscious - or at least hidden from the conscious mind until David brought into awareness at the end of this story with this line - that this hopping from habit to habit in our days and lives gives us the illusion we are being creative and doing new things and are interesting and all the other things that keep the ego/conscious flattered/happy/sated so we live as batteries feeding the system and refrain from enjoying the truth that to break free from the 'hopping', to embrace the unfamiliar and take moments in time of being our own life-live experiment/constant field trip will show us that what we thought and felt was joy can be exponentially exploded into firing multiple, currently dormant bored cells, to push us past any paradigm we can imagine.

For you who don't know it, or who ignore the bible, It talks about all of these awesome things as God's incomprehensible creation. So many interlocking fields of study, yet it all happened from an explosion? Relativity, quantum, dark matter and energy, magnetism, electro-physics, gravity, light travel, inner space, outer space, sub-atomic- yet it all works together without us. Like a newborn baby, beyond our comprehension and grasp. We struggle to explain it without understanding it.

The way David views the world is fascinating and it makes you realize that the world and universe are fascinating!!! There are so many things that we take for granted or things we don't know. I was very excited during the interview, this might be my favorite episode. I keep saying that everytime you upload a new video haha, take that as a compliment ;)

That was AMAZING. Thanks David & Tom. I love how you both examined the dialogue of David & Sadhguru. It's been bothering me immensely how some scientists have been radicalizing their religion of extremist atheist. I find it also unscientific to just dismiss ALL opinions of the other and haven't got an ounce of curiosity left to examine other possibilities. My Albert would have never been that rude and you, David, continue his path.
* All science is the history of knowledge until that moment.
* I believe full rehabilitation should be a constitutional right, if possible (& if not possible 2 find a solution). Otherwise the justice system commits an act of omission and should be held fully responsibly for any re-offending. It is a massive FAIL in their duty to protect the public. ... a lofty dream of mine...

So it's been great seeing some of the "classics like Tony Robbins, Tim Ferris and Vishin but also I have found so many new people that I now am following and adding to my ever-growing reading list. Your philosophy and what impact very stands for continues to shape my thinking and what's possible for myself. It's helped inspire me to disrupt myself and take a long-standing dream to find a way to teach critical life skills to disadvantage teens and make that a reality sooner than later. I know you know this but what you do here has an almost infinite multiplier effect. for every 1000 people that learn something from you and are inspired, just think about the math of how many people they inspire and then those also have new ways of thinking about mindset and what possible and then those that they inspire after that… Appreciate what you do as always. - Fred Brown

Hi Tom, Amazing interview... I have been listening to your talks and interviews from a long time and it has helped me tremendously in changing my mindset.. One thing though, Sadhguru is one of my mentors in my spiritual journey in finding myself. I guess u have not heard him speak on subjects like happiness and focus. I was a bit taken aback when u comparing him to a cartoon character.. His way of teaching is very scientific and no nonsense kind..
I'm super fascinated by Sadhguru! I was trying compliment him, not insult him. I was just surprised by seeing someone with such a dramatically non-western style in a traditional-format interview with a very western-styled interviewer. The juxtaposition was interesting. Just my own limited frame of reference around appearance revealing itself. I actually want to get Sadhguru on the show. There's clearly much I could learn.

I loveee this episode!! thank you so much for sharing this with us! Read his book and watched some interviews with David and he is fascinating! I like the idea that we are deceived by our own brains and still we fall for it. And that there are different things we cannot notice or observe but they exist out there in the world, the same with our possibilities, they are out there, right now, but we have difficulty noticing them and assume if we don't see them they are non-existent.

I discovered David Eagleman on TED talks and he is asking very similar questions to what has interested me for ever but he answers them in different and sometimes better ways. I have wondered why just electrical pulses become experiences and how perception builds our world. I really dont recommend this but I have taken a lot of mushrooms in my youth and I have seen sounds coming out of a speaker and I still knew what the music was and I would have been able to see it through soundproof glass and I would have seen the music. I believe it's called synesthesia (probably spelled that wrong) It was very strange and doesnt seem possible now I have typed it and read it but it is a real thing, although i cannot explain it.

Aside from the interview itself, I've kept trying to pin down what's wrong with the audio and I believe I figured it out. It's the room reverb - it rings a lot in the mids. So to whoever does the sound, try a dynamic eq that cuts the mids below the threshold (set just below your voice) and that should get rid of the boxiness of the room.

Great interview. Glad you guys worked it all out in one interview. found that more enjoyable than the actual interview. Not to say the talk wasn't interesting, it was... Just to see communication on such different levels is great. I wouldn't call it super human, I would just call it human, and it's a step towards remembering who we truly are. That's missing from television where things like that get cut.

Just something I noticed after watching David's TED talk, and then a few more interviews over the years, is that the cost of the wearable haptic hearing device is rising dramatically. In the TED talk he said it was around $40 (may have meant $40 in materials, but still), in another interview in Australia he said a couple hundred bucks, and here he stated $1000. That's a big difference and will start to exclude the market that could afford it.

This is a really mind-expanding interview. I always like neuroscientists because while everyone is saying their opinion, they come in and disrupt everyone. They're also good at articulating themselves because they have a sort of intuitive understanding of the things they synthesize in their own minds because they spend their time studying the mind.
Also, do you think you can get Donald Trump on? that would be interesting to see, (I'm joking, but if you did that would be interesting nonetheless.)

Tom, you've mentioned how you do this a few times, but I find it so cool and funny that the shirt you wear is specifically related to the interviewee. It's always fun to try and see how the shirt relates . Sometimes it's obvious and other times , not so much.

Yeah... This is going to be a fascinating area to watch. I think it will resist change despite the fact that it obviously needs it.
I have an idea that when babies are born (and even when in the womb) the loving care creates a chemical that starts the brain off to choose the good puppet and vice versa. With trauma early in life that is pervasive (neglect, abuse) the chemical is negative and affects the brain’s development. If it’s the later, one behaves without empathy. Anyway, David has changed my life. Thanks, Tom - you are cool too.
I am curious how emotions and feelings are generated by the brain. Why some people are shy and others confident?
I know that confidence is earned having experience, but is it a shortcut for that? Nowadays is very important to have confidence
in every area if you want to succeed.

Is there a scientific reason why you have that blue background on the videos/in the studio? It calls to me and the question has come up in my mind a few times and I think there is a reason(s). I had to get the book Sum just from the intro and wow the first story. I'm rethinking how I sit, touch, what I would be happy to do in heaven for hours straight on repeat and what would drive me mad or irritate me or surprise me. Fabulous unconscious message in that story to wake up more neurons of awareness in us. I have watched your interview with Joe Dispenza a few times, and with what Joe Dispenza teaches us, it makes me wonder if, as David says at the end of the first story in the book about 'the joy of jumping from one event to the next like a child hopping from spot to spot on the brning sand', is that a Matrix control, an unconscious - or at least hidden from the conscious mind until David brought into awareness at the end of this story with this line - that this hopping from habit to habit in our days and lives gives us the illusion we are being creative and doing new things and are interesting and all the other things that keep the ego/conscious flattered/happy/sated so we live as batteries feeding the system and refrain from enjoying the truth that to break free from the 'hopping', to embrace the unfamiliar and take moments in time of being our own life-live experiment/constant field trip will show us that what we thought and felt was joy can be exponentially exploded into firing multiple, currently dormant bored cells, to push us past any paradigm we can imagine.

For you who don't know it, or who ignore the bible, It talks about all of these awesome things as God's incomprehensible creation. So many interlocking fields of study, yet it all happened from an explosion? Relativity, quantum, dark matter and energy, magnetism, electro-physics, gravity, light travel, inner space, outer space, sub-atomic- yet it all works together without us. Like a newborn baby, beyond our comprehension and grasp. We struggle to explain it without understanding it.
