Those Dark Souls 3 skyboxes are truly stunning. The game has a bit of a problem, in my opinion, with the environments lacking color, but the day night-cycles and sun stages really add to the beauty of the world.
Maybe that's why the game's environments were so bland, color-wise. They intended to exist in multiple color states.
A day and night cycle would have been great. How many gameplaymechanics could have been affected by the daytime. What a missed opportunity. It could have been awesome and propably made ds 3 the best one in the series instead of just a very good successor of the first one.
Wish they do exactly that on elden ring
@@twistedgwazi5727 I think is because the game is literally about ash.Other color scheme wouldn't work.
@@lordanonimmo7699 I mean, the Kiln in DS1 was literally made of ash and it looked more vibrant color-wise than pretty much any area in DS3.

Vaati never made it :(
I am incredibly sad at the loss of those DS3 environments. I loved the sight of the darksign sun.
I wish those were real
They were most likely scrapped because of undecided story elements related to that topic.
Well, they weren't as much scraped as unused. Most of that is implied in the lore. Even Bloodborne use some elements of it.
Tcj333 you're eyes are happy then
Yeah its no surprise.Even Bloodborne's trailers looked better then the final game
2:31 We're all Dark Souls fans, ringing bells should be second nature at this stage!

Dark Souls 2: A Link to the Past
Dark Souls 2: A headache to the past
Dark Souls 2: new Any% technique
*the flow of time itself is convoluted in lordran*
I miss this Bloodborne lore, after Darksouls 3 came out a lot of people kinda forgot about it. I was really hoping to see a "Prepare to Cry" for the other characters out there like Maria, Gehrman, Lawrence, Master Williem, and every other NPC and boss that was in the game. Maybe you could do some before or after you do the "Sekiro" Lore.
I'd love to see one with Lady Maria -and every other character-
I agree, Bloodborne still has a lot of stories to tell!
Gehrman would be really nice. I still don't really know his relation to the Orphan of Kos, I don't have the patience to read The Paleblood Hunt.
check mitch L channel, you would not be disappointed
Mir5 it seems easier to follow until you get really deep where everything leads to the eldrich truth and we don’t know what that truly is. I think the truth is they’re in the painted world of ash and each level of the dream is the layers that created the painting the more powerful being were able to transcend those layers giving them power to control the lower layers.
The concept of the chairs actually raises some REALLY interesting lore implications.
Imagine how striking it would be if you got to the end of Yahargul and instead of Micolash and pals all sitting in chairs you saw a bunch of corpses all huddled around a lantern. THAT is basically what we would've gotten if chairs were used as the checkpoint system.
God, those day and night cycles in DS3 were such a missed opportunity. Fromsoft should really add more mechanics in their games that visually affect the environments like that, those scenes were gorgeous and couldve made for some amazing moments ingame.
Honestly though imagine chilling in like the smoldering lake and suddenly the old king punched you in you unaware face
Here's hoping we get that on Elden Ring

I wish DS2 would've gotten the proper development treatment it needed. I really enjoyed that game and the idea of it being even more steeped in mystery and time travel sounds amazing.
I would much rather take Good hitboxes and non bullshitty hit tracking than a new story
@@otto_jk Scholar of the first sin
@@otto_jk idk ...i played it to ng++ and didn't saw the problem with hitboxes... in my experience DS1 is worse as far as that is concerned.
@@alfalldoot6715 sotfs fixes hitboxes?
@@goadog7666 maybe? I only played the sotfs version, not the original one. Never experienced any of the so called "bs hitboxes", although it's too hard imo due to the apparent increase in Pursuer's encounters.
Those daytime filters and effects look fantastic! It's almost disappointing that this feature didn't make it in. It's like a more complex form of Demon's Souls world tendancy mechanic.
Well, it was basically a evolution of this idea.
It wouldve done the graphics a favour too since most of the game has that ashen dreary look having these vibrant world states really lights up the place
2:34 you absolute meme Vaati xD
GoSitOnAPencil I was watching while on the train and just started laughing at that part. Now people are looking at me like I’m weird.
GoSitOnAPencil your profile pic fits the comment so well
Hacm i'm dead, thank you for that
Cheeky bastard ain't he
What meme? That sounded like good lore to me
Man Darks souls 2's story sounds like it could've been even better than the one we actually got. But time travel is always a dangerous plot to use so maybe its a good idea they changed it? I mean we don't have access to the old scripts or dialogue before it got redone so for all we know it could've been badly done.
Those different type of filters for DS3 look so cool, especially the sun and dragon one, shame they weren't finished.
Ds2's time travel would've been nothing compared to the clustered mess that dark souls 3's timeline is lol
There's already enough twisted ass time travel shit in Dark Souls, so it was probably the right thing to do.
It was rushed as hell.
@@jordanhewson8287 Nearly every Souls game was rushed in some way (especially the earlier ones) but they're still amazing and beloved, including DS2
@@alfalldoot6715 but ds2 is easily the worst in a god awful amount of ways

"Kos, Fallen Child of the Moon"
Hello Mother Kos. Finally telling us something, eh?
NO
"Hail the nightman"
Enemy of the day man
Hail the night, man!
The passionate, passionate night man.
How is it that Dark Souls, having 3 games in already, never had a day and night cycle? The environments looks really good in different settings of the day.
It could have probably caused problems in frame rate and they didn't have resources or time to fix it.
Space and time in general are fucked there, day night cycle is literally breaking the lore.
@@otto_jk That’s definitely not the issue when DS3 is significantly more optimized than something like BB. But then again BB doesn’t really follow a day and night cycle only changing the skybox after key events which DS3 already does. But having a moon at Lothric doesn’t make much sense from a lore standpoint so I suspect that’s why it was cut.
Also mods can easily alter lighting with little issue.
Elden Ring: "Ayo bout to patch this up"
@@waltersullivan2727 Switching an entire set of baked lightmaps (or worse, blending between two at once for a smooth transition) isn't a trivial matter, especially when RAM is limited. There's a reason why many games with day/night cycles forgo lightmaps entirely and purely rely on real time lighting at the expense of lighting quality since you loose the indirect bounce lighting that pre-baked lightmaps give you. Being that it's not a critical feature I can see why it was cut in the end.
I think an amazing addition to the game would've been : at the end of both dlc's giving a different pigment to the painting girl in ariandel would affect the world of your next ng+, changing the lighting and some of the content, giving players more reasons to push past ngs and try out different world variants.
Brilliant idea
Cheers!
Genuinely awsome idea.
Mr. J the only problem is that the painting is 1. some tie-in planned in the future for the soulsbourne serious or 2. Fromsoft is leaving it a mystery intentionally to let the ending of DS be more mysterious
The painting is Bloodborne 2...BELIEVE PEOPLE!

Yea definitely not going to be the same with Sekiro. But no worries Dark Souls IV will come out in the next 10 years.
8:45
Man, you know it really would have been cool if DS3 ended (or had an unlockable ending) with the Everlasting Dragons returning to reclaim the world and the Age of Ancients, making everything come full circle. Letting you choose a path where you become a DragonBro along the way who helps restore them.
If DS3's ideas of the darkness and light in the world always cycling through each other are to be believed then it's possible that such a thing may happen eventually, after the Dark Lord ending, anyway. DS3 sorta skimped out on the dragon related bits and that's kind of a shame. All we got were some snakemen, some annoying wyverns, a butchered goatboi transformation, and the Nameless King.
The nameless king is good but yeah I agree
Fully agree but we never really got a game set during the age of darkness/humans and that kinda has to happen before the age of ancients comes back
That character dragging those bodies is the Soul of Cinder.
2:30 Instruction unclear, I ring the bell twice and now I get abducted by Frampt to dance for the royal family
a time travel game done by FROM would actually be really cool.
Pretty sure Déraciné is supposed to have something of the sort.
@@Tcj333 yeah but maybe he meant like a soulsborne game
ds2?
@Dragooman14
It was scraped for same reason it was in numerous other games. It is a fun idea until you start working on it. Then you find out how convoluted time travel really is. Also technically time travel is still a thing, as that is what happen in Ringed City. Just not as game mechanic.
Time travel in FromSoftware games is nothing new, but it's always been a minor thing.
14:05 EEEED-WAAAAD STILL LIIIIIIVES, VAAAAABIII!
Back after elden Ring : The mirror and the "wandering bosses" made a comeback.

These translations are inaccurate. It does not read "grave of a brave army. A man who fights the abyss will die with a dull blade. 隊士 is a regimental soldier, not an "army". 凶刃 is an assassins dagger. It actually reads ”Grave of a gallant regimental soldier. A man who hunted the abyss, and fell to an assassins blade."
悪霊退散 you sure?
That's an interesting detail. Those graves would actually be a pretty good depht addition to the game's lore.
don't translate it to mandarin, dark souls is a japanese game so translate those words from japanese
悪霊退散 I'm pretty sure he was translating them to Japanese and not Mandarin dude
It still a good read though those words just makes my heart shakes
As one who majors in japanese , I was just about to point out the inexactitude of these translations featured in the video and rework them myself when I, skimming through the comment section in hope of finding someone who 'd supersede my rephrasing of the translation by having done so earlier, stumbled upon your comment . Also, your version is impeccable, couldn't have done a better job myself. Thank you for highlighting the imprecision and taking the trouble of setting them right .
Imagine if Elden Ring has that changing conditions/lighting system, which, for an open-world game, I think would work really well. Perhaps the red sky that allegedly burns in the trailer for Elden Ring could be a weather condition. Probably not though. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't be cool.
We have been graced
It do have dat
Currently: pogged for the game
A Lot of Cut Content ist now in Elden Ring
getting the liver would also make sense because beasts (wolves/werwolves) always eat the liver first (well in all the horror stories at least). so the concept was that the hunters turned to beasts themselves and of course, if they continued eating/crushing livers it just put more meaning in their turning, so the more livers you crushed the more beast you became. does that make sense? well at least in my mind it does :D
Also at least from some anime I've watched livers are a source of power for demons apperently
It wouldnt surprise me if that was true there games are full of European cultural references from fairytale to real world history.
I really like how the ashen mist heart was the same concept of the pendulum of time. Not as a whole, nor going into the "past", but using a memory concept, which could be used on some npcs to travel back into the past.
Got a video from indeimaus zerolenny and now vaati. Astronomical
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaas
Thank you so much i didn't know that lenny and indeimause uploaded since UA-cam won't notify me :(
For the bonfire creation mechanic, I imagine players would have been limited to one custom bonfire and that it would have used the Coiled Sword. I could also see the bonfire being a one-use thing. Warp back to the custom bonfire then your character retrieves the sword and has to make another one if they want another checkpoint.
That or it might have consumed a resource like Bone Shards, making it a balancing act between perfect healing and easy traversal.
these DS3 light filters look extremely interesting would love to see something like that in an upcoming game
especially the courtyard in front of the Vordt and the Dancer fight looks incredible in the Moonlight
Wandering bosses is such a cool idea!! Terrifying but cool as hell... Omfg makes me want to play Chalice dungeons all day

It's cool how some of these ideas came into elden ring
I always thought the guy in the intro was the Soul of Cinder bringing the last guy to link the fire who failed, cremating them in the graves, who’s ash then becomes you.

@Someblindgirlwhocancontrolrocks I mean i hate games like fortnite but a Soulsborne Battle Royal sounds so crazy that it could actually work

So glad to see this video, been looking forward to it for a while. Many thanks to everyone putting in the work to learn this stuff.
0:30 when Turncoat hit I instantly got a rush of Unus Annus nostalgia even though this video came out first. Memento Mori
Yeah, that triggered a few flashbacks
I'm back here for a Souls lore binge and I did Not expect these flashbacks how dare
I'm kinda said a lot of this didn't make it into the game. Especially the day and night sequences!

Was really nice to see a video like this pop up again. Nice job Vaati!
Vaati: Ceremony sword battle royale
Chase: *cough* yea that'd be cool I guess *cough*
I've always found that Dark Souls II had very interesting lore (a lot of that interest is due to your videos), the time travel and disconnectedness of some of the world confused a lot of people, but I think it gives the game a sense of mystery. That being said there are a lot of issues with the game, and it would be interesting to see more cut content and pre-overhaul concepts from it.
I love your lore videos. I haven't really been paying much attention to the lore and your videos help fill in the gaps. Thanks for your dedication.
Such a crazy video, enjoyed it thoroughly! Keep up the good work my man
Bearer, seek, seek, lest.
I am interested in what we see in the current Elden Ring trailers we will never see in the final version of the game.
This stuff is amazing! Brilliant video vaati, thanks for showing us all this beautiful footage.
Beautiful work as always, mate! :)
Vaati, I got some more spicy cut content stuff I heard for you. I recall seeing an article about early Dark Souls 3 testers talking about the version of the game they played. According to them you were supposed to fight different bosses in Firelink Shrine at different times of day, one of them being the primordial serpent *Darkstalker Kaathe* and Pontiff Sullivan, who was supposed to be the last boss apparently. Also apparently the pilgrim butterflies used to flying primordial serpents.
I think the worm-like flying creatures shown in your video are primordial serpents. Evidence would suggest this.
Source?
Could you link the article ?
That sounds cool af, too bad it didn't make it to the final game
I did link it but maybe it doesn't show because its seen as spam or something. Look up "Dark souls 3 plays out very differently says testers" on google and find a eurogamer article.
Do “I Hate Mars Bars”
I loved your translation of the final epitaph, nice little piece of lore 😄
Dude I love how you just dive right into the content
2:30 - well played. Simply well played. I actually did that long ago though!
A few days ago I was watching random UA-cam videos and I encountered some of my favorite dark souls 3 videos. I re-watched them and then it hit me; Miyasaki won't make another DS/BB again (or at least not any time soon) I felt depressed for the rest of the week, like if all this time I was in negation but now I now it's for real. I will really miss the feeling this games gave me the first time I played them. I know Miyasaki is working on other games but I'm afraid It won't be the same. I just prefer the medieval dark fantasy over feudal japan.
It may sound absolutely pathetic but these games were part of my life, the feeling they gave me was real for me. I will miss them.
Thanks for producing / reporting on new content for this important part of my life. I really appreciate it.
Elías Rico, I get it man, it sucks.
Yeah, dark souls 3 was a game I loved playing again and again l, I grinded new games up to ng +24, even when my saves got corrupted by an outage, I restarted and still kept playing. Bloodborne was an extremely special game to me, the lore was really different from any other game. Try not to think about what you won't get, but about what you had and enjoyed.
They confirmed another soulsborne type of game if you want to look into it, it looks pretty promising
You have an amazing narrative voice, keep up the amazing work good sir!
I love all your videos, Im such a big soulsbourne fan its crazy I play them all the time, your great!
Dark souls battle royal.... you may think that’s a terrible idea with all the saturation of battle royals, but just think about it. Your dropped into the world of dark souls once more except with the whole world to explore, but one objective is presented to you, relight the flame. 100 cursed souls, thrown into a world, but being the last one alive doesn’t mean you win. You must still beat the final boss to light the flame.
My dream game would be a sort of prequel. When the world wasnt all convoluted and distorted. With communities and cities all in their normal places. Maybe your character ushers in the very first age of darkness or whatever.
Of course it would probably feel very different from a typical souls game since there would be no hollows yet or crazy god bosses or whatever.. but i think it would be cool.
Those world states for Dark Souls III explain so much about those early screenshots. I really have to wonder how far into development they got, and DAMN now I want them.
You never cease to amaze, keep up the good work VaatiVidya
!
This is why i love the Ds/BB community we have. Not because of the Git Gud mask we all wear, but because we are dedicated fans who want to continue the stories of the worlds we love and will go to any means to achieve that. Plus share it with everyone else! Long may the sun shine on us! Umbasa!

Love this channel. Long time watcher but fairly new subscriber, sorry for the delay. And probably no chance this will be seen but what r the odds off a video digging up secrets of souls weapons with strange powers and seemingly no mention of their beginnings or how they came to their final resting place. I know there are many of them but elanora is the weapon that made me ask this question. Can't help but wonder why it was imbuned with a weapon art similar to something out of bloodborne yet no mention of who wielded it nor how it came to rest under the profaned capital.
Vaati it is currently 5:44am here and I just finished my finals thesis. Just hearing your voice almost made me cry. I Love you
Man, not to say Dark Souls 3 was bad, but...all this feels way more like Dark Souls. Grandiose and strange mystery, interesting new mechanics...I'm really sad this stuff got cut in favor of a "safer" game. Maybe understandable considering the circumstances, but man, this all would've felt so fresh and interesting...
Edit: Maybe it's an appropriate legacy for Dark Souls, however, to have all this mystery to dig into now. Even if the sequels did play it a bit safe. I mean, goodness, Dark Souls 2 sounds so interesting, it really got done dirty. I almost wonder if they would've benefitted more from interconnecting less, almost like...almost Demon Souls was to Dark Souls, in a way. Kind of a shame.
I made a very similar comment, they seemed to have left out things that would have made the games of the trilogy unique. I guess they decided to play safe.
(also ds2 had the light mechanic technically cut off with the nerf to darkness, I think it would be a cool mechanic)
It wasn't bad but it also was nit as great as it could have been. I feel like development was a bit rushed and there is barely anything really new. Feels like Dark Souls 1,5. All this cut content could have create a more unique and memorable experience
@@sunlightprince3173 You don't make much sense, my friend. Many of DS3 characters barely even have any lore connection to DS1. Most of the connections are loosely foundational.
@@danielantony1882 The gameplay is similar and let's see, how many armor and weapons we got from DS1? Oh yeah, a lot. Oh and how many locations from Dark Souls 1? Demon ruins, anor londo, Ash lake etc.
Oh and the NPCs, Siegmeyer 2.0, Literally Andre, crestfallen knight etc. Open your eyes
It seems Software are very ambitious....to the point where a lot of their grand ideas devolve into folly during development. Understandable, but still disappointing.
Damn I dont know why but everytime I hear DS2 music it gives good memories.
Same, it has its flaws but DS2 will always have a place in my heart
It's about time. More videos please!!!
I started to watch you after a month of playing dark souls and your lore and game play of all these game on your channel really make me glad that I'm subscribed to you and to be part of this community of players
"It was neither human nor dragon... in sadness, it danced to the royal family." Could be referring to the failed child of Dragons, Ocelot.
Definitely not, the king loved ocelot and would not tolerate it just dancing to entertain. It also isnt sleeping, especially not in the dungeons, and the ocelots also has nothing to do with the irthyll dungeon. Your just making a random link because ocelots is also a hybrid.
Watching this now, I realize that half of these Fromsoft remembered and added to Elden Ring
I love your videos, Vaati, and I'm not alone. I have a feeling 2 million subs isn't that far off for ya.

8:11 Getting nightmarish flashbacks of cliff racers
I think they could have balanced the bonfires by having select spots you can place the swords, so the campfire is already set up but it needs the coiled sword. You only have a finite amount of swords throughout the game, so you have to log your swords carefully so you can realistically get back to where you where if you died and keep on moving until, as you said, you can't go on any longer, but you have to find the spot to camp. If you really need it, you could always go back to a previous spot and set up there if you really need it, but that could be a considerable waste of recourses as time goes on. Your thoughts?
I really like the idea and I think having limited spots would've helped.
I think, also, during later NG+ cycles it would be a real challenge if they took out a sword or two, but that may have been too much if NG+ actually effected the game like it did in Ds1
I guess if players had a choice for NG+ maybe that could work.
Having not played these games in a while, i forgot just how much i love them. Truly works of art. Bloodborne’s soundtrack is easily my favourite soundtrack of all time.
I feel like the corpse/placing bonfire mechanic would have been interesting, but I think the corpse dragging cut scene from the intro you mentioned is possibly actually the Soul of Cinder dragging a bested Undead attempting to link the flame? Just a thought.
