    I would draw file it rather than push file as I find it gives me more control on keeping the file square with the metal, also I use a flat needle file. I would only do this process once then replace if it needs doing again. Excellent video glad to see the ciggy and red bull are still prominent

    Hey when I'm letting the clutch out on my 06 636 the bike kinda vibrates/stutters other then that it shifts fine and there is no slipping in higher rpm tho I didnt want to test that too much do to the problem, I just replaced my clutch last may. Thanks!

    I’ve learnt so much from your videos on UA-cam, I’m truly grateful for all the information you give.
    Iv got a question if you could possibly get back to me..... my Yamaha DT 125 the basket has a lot of slop against the steel outer gear not only that the bike feels shit on decelerations like it’s out of balance and plenty of judder. Is it likely I need a new basket?
    Thanks

    Wet clutch/dry clutch debate... so if you want to weld all your clutch plates together on your 2004 multistrada just leave it parked in the weather for a few months. Nobody ever talks about this, it’s always just listen to how my cool dry clutch rattles... lesson learned. Found an RG500 motor for 2500 pounds, good deal or let go of childish dreams? Had a TDR250 back in the day.

      "Found an RG500 motor for 2500 pounds, good deal or let go of childish dreams?"
      - LOL never worth it. You're better off sticking 2 engines together or something like that. The cylinders and replacement parts are stupidily expensive - thermostat cost £50!

    missing the plot a little bit here?? what happens with the clutch baskets is the spring drive system gets loose and the outer basket starts to wobble at the center??

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  4 роки тому +2

      The spring are damper spring - to take the chatter and oscillation out of the clutch. Wobbling at the centre is the centre bearing is fucked

    • @gmc3578
      @gmc3578 4 роки тому

      @@dirtygarageguy yes, but apparently most stock baskets don't have a good thrust surface between the inner and outer components resulting in problems

    Good luck getting a hold of Jon..if it’s that sharealike guy he rarely gets back to people. I wound up rebuilding my own clutch cus the guy never got back to anyone. He did a lot of work for the k1200s clutches as well as the vstroms.

    Matt ime rebuilding a vf750f '83 and the innee basket, the bit that sits in the basket with the 5 threaded studs poking up. One of the studs which the valve spring bolts spin in to, was broken. Someone took a short bolt and went through the back side to gold it togsther. How long its been this way i couldnt say. Do i need an entire new clutch assembly? Can i repair this? Will it be possible to find just the inner basket its self?

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  6 років тому

      If you or someone you know is a good welder then you 'could' weld it back together - but you'd have to be fucking jesus to do it right due to limited access - its quite important that the pressure is even - so yes you need a new clutch boss.

    To file it down is something you can do once and with luck two times but if you do it three times the shit always breaks pretty soon after that. To get it machined will cost more then a new part...

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  6 років тому

      "To get it machined will cost more then a new part..."
      - depends what the new clutch costs - if you can find one that is. You have to remember that these videos are for all and any clutch. Some old bikes/or rare bikes you just can't find the parts.

    Matt i get what you are saying regarding the filing of the fingers but what about the marks down into the casting, there looks more wear down in the slot than where you was filing. regarding and in reference to the message i sent you on FaceBook could this be a posible cause of my problem with my clutch on my RG not disengaging when going back down the box.
    regards Steve

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  4 роки тому +2

      "but what about the marks down into the casting"
      - you have to file them to. It's a lot harder but possible. The RG clutch is a dickhead to bne honest.
      "could this be a posible cause of my problem with my clutch on my RG not disengaging when going back down the box."
      - how long is a piece of string? In other words what condition is your clutch in? There's several things it could be;
      1. fucked clutch springs
      2. worn discs
      3. Warped steel discs
      4. wrong oil
      5. stack incorrect
      6. worn pressure plate
      7. worn basket
      8. worn boss
      you're gonna have to take it apart and send me some pictures - loads of pictures

  • @somborn
    @somborn 5 років тому +3

    Just file it gingerly until marks are just barely gone. When the wearing isn't absolute even. What's the point of machining it perfectly when parts and disc's are fucked from the factory, already.

  • @HADDDOCK777

    When you say you'd only remove 25% of the thickness of the prong, do you really mean 25% of the thickness of that particular prong? It seems like quite a bit, especially if you're doing the side of the prong opposite as well. Would you then end up with something like a 50% increase in clearance?
    Would you be better off only going up to a 12.5% reduction in prong thickness instead, to keep a 25% or less clearance increase between the prongs?
    I'm not sure how much play you can get away with on those so I just wanted to clarify.

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  6 років тому

      I'm saying maximum across both prongs not a single one - but you're right I didn't make that too clear

      The Workshop so kinda like the "teeth" that engage with the boss are eccentric and the weird nose on one side

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  6 років тому

      The little tab - I have no idea unless I saw the rest of the clutch - as for the eccentric teeth - are you sure? They look radial to me????

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  6 років тому

      Looking at the picture there isn't a tab but its recessive - this is probably for oil drain back - so the plates don't pool oil....
