    The icy adrenaline dump. Outstanding.

    The excitement when he takes the shot is something non-hunters have probably never felt. The shaking from the cold and thrill is something that has happened to many of us during a deer hunt, and it must be greater with the scenery out west and with a good shot on a trophy elk. Not sure how he stayed so calm up the that point.

    • @WontBSilenced
      @WontBSilenced 11 місяців тому

      Let me correct you. If you feel this level of excitement, you are no hunter. You are a murderer that enjoys killing. We hunt for the food, not for the sport. When you hunt for the sport, you are pathetic.

    The shakes you got after the shot… I know that feeling… I shot a spike with my bow and shook like that for 30+ minutes.. good work! Beautiful bull !

  • @craigwhite7209

    I find all the comments about needing a larger cartridge interesting. Maybe you didn't watch the whole video? The bull died in less than 150 yards running from where he was shot. Unless you get spine shock an elk rarely drops on impact from a shot to the vitals, that was an effective kill. Hunting and tracking in the snow can be incredibly difficult even with a blood trail many times the blood is covered up in less than half an hour. Congratulations on a beautiful bull!! I love my Bergara rifles!

    • @theconnection1937
      @theconnection1937 Рік тому +4

      I was thinking the same thing. 150 yards for a running elk takes about 4 seconds.

    • @rustywandler1894

      They didn’t find it until the next day. Vert poor choice in caliber and bullets. Apparently you haven’t been around many elk hunts that’s not what is supposed to happen when a elk is hit in the shoulder. Yes to small of a caliber. !!!

    • @craigwhite7209
      @craigwhite7209 Рік тому +9

      @@rustywandler1894 Actually, I live in Montana and hunt elk every year for myself and several family members and friends. We've killed elk with a 125 grain broadhead going 300fps and 338 Lapua. The goal out here is to take out the vital organs so they die. You haven't hunted elk enough if you've never had an elk go further than 150yds or not recovered an animal that was shot just before dark until the next day. It's so easy to sit back and criticize hunters on youtube.

      @@craigwhite7209 Hi Craig like you Ive shot a lot of Deer, Red deer in particular. In New Zealand we /I hunt Red Deer all year round, Im 59 and Ive been hunting with rifle since I was sixteen. Its 7th of April today and Im on deer number 5 for this year, 2 of which are stags. I have shot many deer with 22magnum, 204 Rugar, 22-250, 243, 270, 7mm Rem Mag and 300 win mag. Ive witnessed many of my hunting mates over the years shoot and wound deer and had to track them, many times over Ive spent days, blood trailing and tracking and grid searching for deer shot by others when I could have been hunting myself. Ive come to the conclusion over my lifetime that energy, bullet construction, shot placement and calibre choice are all equally important when hunting and shooting big game. Its my opinion, my 10 cents worth is, 30 calibre is better suited for Elk than 6.5.

    • @craigwhite7209
      @craigwhite7209 Рік тому +2

      I don't disagree, in fact I typically hunt elk with larger 30 caliber cartridges but have killed them with a 6.5 prc. I just wanted to emphasize that this was an effective kill and harvest and he would have likely had the same result in "this exact situation" with a 30 caliber cartridge. I often tell people to take the gun you shoot best and know your limits because where you put the bullet is the most critical part of the equation (given they have a proper bullet for the hunt). It sounds like you have some amazing hunting opportunities down there. I've always wanted to hunt Red Stags in New Zealand. Maybe I'll make it down there some day.

    One of the hardest things to convey about hunting is the emotional aspect. It can bring the highest of highs but also the lowest of lows. Great job not giving up and making sure that beautiful animal did not go to waste. And Dakota should be whipped for laying that rifle in the snow. Thanks for sharing.

    The accuracy of the shot is why I chose Bergara as my rifle. Performance in extreme temps is critical. Like the other comments, I want a caliber that has the potential & kinetic energy especially at that range to pass through and knock down that elk. I chose the 300WM after attending the Bergara Experience last summer. It’s the perfect shopping experience.

    The anxious breathing while looking through the glass on a rifle is second to none. You want to make an ethical shot. You don't want to miss. You want to do something good by providing food for your home. The moment you stop getting that anxious feeling when moving your finger to the trigger, taking a breath, and squeezing the trigger is the moment you stop hunting. Never take that opportunity for granted.
