  • We got up to some photography on The Pacific Coast Highway today. Some cool locations, and an awesome travel day overall.
    Check out my travel photography on IG at @brendanvanson.
    I wanted to get up for sunrise photography at McWay Falls this morning along the Pacific Coast Highway. But, I had a bunch of work I needed to catch up on. So, sadly, I didn't get there until the light was really bright. But, I took some landscape photos there anyways, despite the bad light. I really need to get back to McWay Falls at some point to shoot it at sunset.
    Then, we pushed down the Pacific Coast Highway to Elephant Seal Vista. You might not know this, because I don't do a lot of wildlife photography, but I'm actually a massive wildlife fan. I love seeing animals in the wild. And, these Elephant Seals you get in California are just so strangely beautiful.
    We ended the day in Pismo Beach, which is just north of Los Angeles on the Pacific Coast Highway. And here, we headed out to the pier for some photography at sunset. The light was a bit harsh, but under the pier we found some really beautiful light for portrait photography.
    As usual, I give my photography tips along the way.
    Tomorrow on the channel, we head to LA!

    Great video and lovely images. Especially liked the first two by the small waterfall and the epic light when videoing the surfers.

    As a native of California I am really really happy you like the California Coast~ But you really really should do the Washington and Oregon coast sometime. They are so beautiful. Wishing you safe travels ~ Keep up the good work!

    It’s so impressive that you can pull solid images at midday with blue skies. Strong work brotha! I absolutely love that drive. Probably one of the most beautiful drives in the world. There are actual wild zebras near the Hearst Castle out in the fields there by those elephant seals. I though I was going crazy when I saw them!

    I really like your videos, they are really really cool, really really amazing, even if it is really really backlit :)
    About the HDR video of the 5D Mk IV, I found it a bit overexposed and flat...

    Not happy with the stills? Are you shitting me? They looked gorgeous, those colours were fantastic, in fact its now got me searching online for piers which could offer me a sunset shoot, or sunrise, and using an app i have on my phone, ill be able to calculate exactly when and where this will occur, so thanks for inspiring me, great video from you as per, those elephant seals were a highlight, have been seal watching before and their so cute, very nosey too!

    And the elephant seals at Piedras Blancas are a lot of fun. I try to shoot there every year: chuqui.smugmug.com/Extended-Collection/Mammals/Elephant-Seal/ (FWIW, Pismo is nice, I think Morro Bay is nicer. talk to me about ideas for the next trip)

      it can be a challenge, but that entire coast can be. You need to schedule Carrizo plains for the wildflower blooms, too.

      Martin - It’s not dust. It’s a sensor scratch and he’s waiting for a good time in his schedule to get it fixed. He’s mentioned it a couple of times. You are welcome Brendan 😬

    I really want to watch you videos. It’s about nice locations and you explain quite nice. But there is one thing, that I don’t get. Approx. Minute 3, sound is clipping and where is your lens cap? You have almost no contrast in your shot. - again: I really want to watch you, but it misses out the finishing you get from Thomas Heaton or Peter McKinnen

    • @Wrecksy
      @Wrecksy 6 років тому +3

      This is obviously not the same kind of video you get from Thomas Heaton, who spends days making one video. This is a travel photography vlog and I think it's pretty amazing that Brendan puts out quality videos EVERY DAY while doing all he does. If you are so picky as to get upset over a little clipping (it seriously was pretty minor) then maybe you should volunteer to follow Brendan around and produce his videos, be his sound guy, critique his photos, babysit his lens cap and still publish videos daily, all for free.

    • @Wrecksy
      @Wrecksy 6 років тому

      Oh, and keep an eye out for dust!

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  6 років тому +10

      +Martin - Martin. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the feedback. 1) I have a scratched sensor, I can't replace it at the moment. That's what you're seeing. 2) yes, the sound clipped. I was testing the 5d mark iv and somehow the audio was set to manual and not auto. 3) where's my lens cap?? In my camera bag. 4) I produce 6 videos a week. Sometimes, you have to make sacrifices. I hope you can look beyond the finishing quality of a video and instead draw the messages, tips and entertainment. The goal of this channel isn't to blow you away with 24 cinematic masterpieces each month. The goal is to inspire and encourage you to do that. And, I hope you do. Beat of luck, and thanks for watching.

      I think he meant lens hood or at least I hope he did because you wouldn't ever have a lens cap on a camera being used to shoot lol
