  • So lockdown continues as does my riding of fire roads and slowly asking myself am I accidentally becoming a gravel rider? Which if I had a craft pilsner in a bottle cage would be a fair accusation.

Correct, seen loads more cyclist out than ever. Including large groups which goes against the law. It’s exercise alone or with one other family member.

I'm most worried about the casual cyclists who are riding who don't normally ride. Seen a good number of them without helmets on rural roads. I am glad of anything that gets more people riding but I worry about inexperienced cyclists taking unnecessary risks.

Stravaiging MTB exactly I have the same concern. Too many newbies on bikes not fit to be out. Been asked to help twice with flats and brakes. Could be avoided if they checked bikes over before setting off. I’ll nod and wave but I’m not stopping to help any more. I don’t like it but.....

Well I do know of one case where a rider ended up being airlifted to hospital with an impalment injury from an inaccessible area. But thankfully the local press didn't blow it up out of all proportion. It was a mountain bike but not reported as such. I'm keeping details vague as I'd rather the gutter press didn't find it.

Hope the rider and respondets are all ok! Thays a horrific injury but It can and does happen. A lot if bad injuries can happen on familiar trails as we can let out attention slip. Stay safe and stay sane!

Hey man, i know it's got nothing to do with the subject, but what gearing would to recommend for a do it all/gravel/commuting /light trail riding 26er? I'm currently running a 3x9 with an 22-30-40 crankset and I'm constantly spinning out the 40t. Too bad that bike brands aren't giving any love to the good ol 26er and the gearing is getting smaller for larger wheels

So a spinning out on 11t x 40t? Well the only way is up with the front chain ring as you won't get a 10t rear sprocket with a 9 speed hub. I run 1x9 on the blue xc 26er. It's 11-34 cassette and 32 up front. I have less go at 11 - 32 but I f9nd the drop in weight and the off road terrain I ride balance it out. I can keep an average of 19kmh road riding and 14kmh on off road.l with that gearing. I might try a 10 speed 11 - 40 with a 36t up front as a middle of everything. Check out box's prime 9 as well.

@@StravaigingMTB After writing my comment I heard you say that this was back around zombie Jesus day, and things were a bit different back then. I live in Colorado, and we are outdoor junkies. Back in April, I think that we were still being pretty cautious as well, but you saw a lot more folks walking and riding their bikes (or buying new bikes) around the neighborhoods.

Likewise here there are a lot of outdoors junkies, I saw plenty of folks riding like nothing was happening off and on road. But for me I wanted to be able to look a first responder in the eye.

@@StravaigingMTB Where are you at? You see in America, essential means disposable. At first, everyone was thanking store clerks, but they are all forgotten again.
