I Think it's called minus 1 because after WW2, Japan was at 0( mean they needed to start over) and now as they start to rebuild, Godzilla shows up and brings Japan to minus 1(less than 0)
I assumed that they were successful at destroying Godzilla, Godzilla shows up and after a lot of work, they got rid of it. So, Godzilla Minus One. Yea, we won!!!!!!! Sure..
@@wa-bu3ke As people have pointed out, that trailer explains that after WWII Japan was at Zero. Lowest point they could find themselves at. Then comes Godzilla.
The people were running in a straight line because they were in city streets and it was a chaotic situation. It is difficult for everyone to just go to the side down narrow alleyways. Some people did go to the side, though. It wasn't all straight lines. Also, people survive things that look absolutely devastating all the freaking time, and the movie never says Noriko is the only survivor.
Godzilla wasn’t stiff, it just turns out that bigger animals have more weight to swing around. Think about the differences between a mouse and an elephant. They move completely differently. Or a salmon vs a whale. Now scale up 1000x from a whale/elephant. It’s going to be more stiff. It wouldn’t be realistic to have Godzilla moving as nimble as a squirrel.
Exactly. The physics of Godzilla is one thing that sets it apart from other films like the American Kong/Godzilla films, Transformers etc. It has a more realistic feel to it.
Actually the director purposely made it stiff to hommage the original 1954 as well as to say that the nuclear mutation of Godzilla's skin and his body structure has caused him to move unnatural & somewhat disabled. Notice how godzilla was more agile and moved freely like a dinosaurs before the radiation
That thumbnail is fabulous. That is the same facial expression that our cat Cooper has as he is about to kill something. Props to the design crew for making it look like an actual killing machine while chasing the boat.
I would agree that Godzilla Minus One wasn't perfect, despite that I liked the movie. For me, the flaw was in that there weren't enough Godzilla scenes. I liked the human storyline, but it consisted of 90% of the entire movie. But I guess the limited Godzilla scenes was due to the budget being only $15 million.
I agree. Consider that Stranger Things had a budget of $30million an episode, and Rings of Power had a budget of $58million an episode. Imagine if they had spent that much on this film.
@@billybatson8657 Oh, if Toho had that kind of budget, the Godzilla movie they made probably would be winning an Oscar award. Or maybe not... since they didn't include any woke elements 😆
I found this move real boring... I drove 5 hours to watch this to the next city, got everything. DBOX popcorn, ice cold coke. and I kid you not I fell asleep... This was sadly a bad Godzilla movie for me. Shin over this anyday.
Godzilla is a force of nature. Nature doesn't care to reason why and when it attacks. Part of this movie is inspired by the failure of the Japanese government to respond when a tsunami hit the Fukushima nuclear power plant causing a disaster that the Yakuza was the fastest to respond to. But let's talk about your need for a reason for Godzilla to attack. Godzilla was stirred to anger against humans when he was shot at by the people on Oda. He was further angered by the bomb tests that also mutated him. Anger doesn't always need to be reasonable. Godzilla also moves stiff on land because he is primarily a seas creature, and he's far larger than any land animal, to the extent that he can't really spend lots if time on land, especially when he's being shot at. The movie shows he can be injured. You see scales missing in parts, so he's clearly taking damagr and gas to retreat to regenerate. Seems you don't want a movie that makes you actually have to observe things, because movies like Pacific Rim, while fun, don't tend to place a lot of faith in audience intelligence, and they just spell everything our for you. Godzilla Minus One is far superior to that movie.
"Stuck" with the characters??? Their stories, trials, tribulations, and triumphs. Plus their redemption arcs are what made this an AMAZING movie. But shout out to yall for sharing your unpopular opinion. Even if i think its flawed, i do enjoy listening to a differing point of view. P.S. definitely BUY this! definitely go to the movies to see it! This is only the 2nd movie ive paid to see twice in theater in about 10 years 👍🏿👍🏿
Finally someone with a bit of common sense seeing past the hype- like I like the main three characters and the guys on the boat, but honestly the movie actually goes downhill when Godzilla's around. I've never seen a godzilla film that's BETTER without Godzilla. He's stiff, slow, boring. The original Godzilla was a good movie, but Godzilla being immobile was not part of that. Not a Pacific Rim fan, but I do think The Monsterverse just has been doing this better: they give Godzilla a personality and make him a character rather than just a plot device.
Honestly you dont need godzilla to be expressive this is a homage to original and the og director Ishiro Honda didnt like how they made him almost human like in the later films which is why at a certain point he stepped away from the series, all the critiques i see here are pulling straws i can tell you guys never seen alot of them cause its riddled with homage and callbacks thats only diehard fans will notice and it truly is the best its ever been especially for a solo film there hasnt been one with this good of a story since the 1954 orginal
Well we got some fairly rancid takes here. Movie was boring or you don’t care about the human characters isn’t exactly salient criticism without explaining why or pointing to examples. Many or obviously even most people found the narrative, themes, and overall movie to be very compelling. I went with a group of 4 an no one didn’t at least tear up. I always try to say I appreciate it’s good to stick to your opinions and be honest but you have to I think have some really solid criticisms and we’ll thought out arguments if you’re gonna go against the grain which I don’t think quite happens in this chat. Love to see if you could delve a little more into specifics. Also the comments at 14 minutes are just baffling to me tbh.
If these guys say "Don't watch this" definitely go see it. These fine upstanding citizens don't have a clue. I think maybe watching a film and reading subtitles is too much for these guys. Fantastic movie and not just for kaiju fans. Are your 18 subscribers all related? Terrible take.
"we are used to seeing blah blah blah in the other recent films". Yeah, but CLEARLY you guys havent seen the original. I feel like anyone who hasnt even watched the original Godzilla film shouldnt be insulting a modern film that set out to give fans some of what the original film provided. Dont blame Godzilla for the fact that you cant sit for 5 minutes without an action sequence.
This movie was boring. that is the best way to describe it. actually.. it is incredibly boring. I didn't care about a single character. The action sequences were underwhelming. was a chore to get 1.5 hours through... and it still wasn't over. Just stopped watching at around 1 hour and 20 minutes because I was just so bored and did NOT care to learn anymore about any of the humans or Godzilla. Holy shit what a thoroughly boring movie. And PS, I like slow burning mystery movies. I'm not a Marvel simp, 90% of those movies suck too.
You guys need to broaden your horizons. You think it’s boring because you’ve been conditioned by American movies toward non-stop action in-place of storytelling. Also the name minus one refers to Japan having been knocked down to zero at the end of ww2, and when trying to start over again from the beginning, here comes Godzilla to knock Japan back yet another notch.
You're right we don't know if anyone else survived, but it's a high probability that she wouldn't have survived with all the large debris that was flying with her. Also the glowing part does that mean she is a spawn of Godzilla? It will be interesting to see how they incorporate that into the second one
I must admit, the second half of the movie kind of dragged on a little bit, and at times the animation looked a little clunky. And I’ll give your some leniency for your thoughts on the girl surviving at the end. Plus I got to admire your taste in PACIFIC RIM. Other than that, SERIOUSLY what movie were you watching? I’d recommend you give this movie a second watch. Who knows, it might grow on you.
I think the planning to kill Godzilla part at the end kind of dragged. They should have left that in the background and had Godzilla attacking some other part of Japan to fill the space instead, but for $15million you can't expect an episode of Stranger Things, which cost $30million an episode.
@@billybatson8657 From what I heard, budget wasn’t even 15 million. But I agree, they probably should edited the second half down a little bit or thrown in some other kind of Godzilla action. God, this was so overrated. I waited 6 months until it came to streaming, and anticipated enjoying it based on rave reviews, but it was mediocre at best. It certainly wasn't a chaotic Transformers or Indiana Jones film with endless, pointless chase scenes, but on the other hand that's what made it feel more real, like old school films. Considering this film was made on a $15million budget, whereas Stranger Things averaged $30million AN EPISODE, and Rings of Power averaged $58million AN EPISODE, I think they did a heck of a job.
Here is a guy who probably has only seen one or two Hollywood Godzilla films. Need to go back and watch Godzilla (ToHo) starting from the 50s. Minus One means it is before the first appearance of Godzilla 1954. It's not that hard if you just do minimal research.
