    Wow!! I can't imagine cutting something this large cross section that has been subject to the loads when the bridge collapsed. I would be concerned that when a cut completes the free ends might come back on my body or hands hard and fast.

      that's part of why it is staking as long as it is. There's constant reassessment as each piece is cut.

      @@MinorcanMullet Do you have any information on how far they are flame cutting the bridge structure. It would seem very dangerous to fully sever the members. I would not want to do it even if a crane was rigged and had some control.

    I really liked the speeded up views, because it is a tedious, slow, painstaking process, so for those of us who aren't participating, to see it in quick motion helps to give a better idea of just how much is being done. Not to mention, when you zoomed in on the basket hanging from the crane with the welder/cutter person--wow. When the basket was raised and we could see the occupant, we realized he (or she) is so tiny compared to the structures being worked on. That was a great "scale" shot. Thanks for your thoughtful work.

    This was a very good video for people to better understand the process. I saw previous comments asking why some of the cranes were just sitting there and wondering if some crews are drawing out the cleanup to make more money. Getting all this bridge out is like playing Jenga. Pulling out the wrong piece could possibly be catastrophic and cause the cleanup to take as much as 10 times longer. Every crane can’t be moving all the time.

  • @SteamCrane
    @SteamCrane 17 днів тому +1

    1:00 - I had been wondering what the yellow Lima 2400 was used for. Turns out it's handling the drop ball to break up the bridge pavement. The mess of debris that Dale Pyatt is pulling out shows how useful a big dredge is, just grab big handfuls of whatever is down there without worrying about what it is.
