    Wait...so this university had NO idea that women were basically living in storage rooms? Being tortured/injured constantly, over YEARS? I really hope her children are safe and she continues to flourish and grow in her new country...

      Do you think the greedy man would have kept the children safe? They would have been sold too.. or would have died, who knows. And this poor woman worked so hard just with the thought that they may be safe.

      I agree, this is weird, because in most public places (even hospitals, universities), there's security or anyone who has to be in the building for the day and the night. Those who are on the night shift often have to check rooms to make sure that everyone has left and they also turn the lights off, so they can close the building. They have to do this in order to protect the property from criminals and/or homeless people who seek shelter.

      Augustuvi Primce dea.V. assuming i'm reading that right the man is taking already available overtime and working a ridiculous amount of hours, so the city is spending the same amount of money, if his productivity is if sufficient quality then i'm all for it, though even taking a high estimate for his weekly hours the man is making over 30$/hour for his base wage (assuming OT is 150% base wage like most places, if it's higher then that the per hour wage could be normal for SF).

      still, the college didn't do background checks or spoke to the cleaners. I mean, if there are people sharing a work space with you and you pay them surely you at least want to know what kind of people they are? and suddenly you see sad looking women who don't speak the language. I don't know how the college could be so blind! you'd think educated people knew about modern slavery

Serial killers and serial rapists wouldn't rack up dozens of victims. Nobody would sexually abuse multiple children. Karma is what we tell ourselves to stop caring, but keep a clear conscience. There's no balance of good and evil. Open your eyes.

    How could no one at the college notice? In the building where I work, you see the same cleaning people everyday, but you can tell there's a day shift and evening shift, because the people are different. And the really sad thing is, if her kids are girls, they might very well have been trafficked themselves.

    Reading the comments below about background checks and they don't believe the stories real. She said she hadn't seen her children in 20 years, so I would imagine that this has been some time ago. Things weren't as strict then as they are now. I live in the United States, human trafficking rings get busted every day in our country. But the danger for both the victims of slavery and me..
    This video is so deep, and finally revealed the REAL truth about modern slavery in the western world.
    I just wish as a society, not the government.
    A society to stop trafficking gangs, forced labour, and many more devastating thing to our world’s generation as a species.
    People don’t deserved to be treated like this.. but I know sometimes we forget. Forget to remember that a person of a different race, religion, culture, sexuality, gender, and wealth are human.

      @Telly5strartist 5 років тому +2

      Matthew Harry there are loads of organisations where you can volunteer "safely". I put that in quotes bc there is an emotional toll sometimes. There are recovery programmes, other support teams. No need to jump in and pull people out. There are already ppl doing that if you dont feel it is for you. Do a google search for your local anti trafficking organisations. Or u can ask at ur local sallies. They prob can put you on to one. If you cant committ time, another way to help is to always always keep an eye open, know your neighbours, even the ones who r local bc it happens to locals too. You can research ways to spot trafficking also. All the best!

      The thing about society is, most of humans are very selfish. We do not care about other people or what happens to them (at least, to some extent). Some people would go as far as to completely destroy another person, another human being, for their own happiness and fortune.
      It's indeed unfair and dark and it will keep on happening, and that's the most saddening fact.

    A sociologist made a study working as trash collector, janitor, gardener, plumber: professions considered "low", "humilliating", "not something successful or educated people do". NO ONE would talk to him for weeks or months, nor notice when he started and stopped working in a place. So this woman was hardly noticed by employees, staff or students at college cuz of her job. She didn't speak the language and was completely ignored.

      Chez She's most likely Muslim (before people accuse me of being racist think about it)
      1- she came from a country that didn't value women
      2- she wasn't allowed to go to school as is common in the Islam religion areas
      3- she was married at 16, which she probably didn't know her husband before marrying him, and if that was the case, it was an arranged marriage
      How does she even know her children are still alive, and if they are, they were probably told that she had abandoned them. If any of the children are girls, they could have been forced into slave labor as well, maybe prostitution.

    It' s very sad to know the college where she worked never noticed her suffering. As a daughter of cleaners, my parents taught me to respect those who carry the hardest physical work in our society as they were not that lucky to have the same opportunities I have today. It's a shame they let this issue go for so many years. This shows us that in that college there wasn't any health and safety procedures put into place or if there were, she wasn't entitled just because she was a cleaner. Such a shame of college

    I think the country should be given. It's sad this story exists but what can we do with this information?
    If it's a corrupt culture/ nation that has a lot of these then it should be made public so more people are able to oppose and think of solutions.
    If it's a problem with certain people in economy (like the cast system in India) then more people are able to also think of solutions which could help.
    I'm sad about this story but I'm mad that I'm not given enough information to try to help.

      Saudi Arabia practices similar ideas regarding slaves. She could be Indian, as well. Families sell their daughters as dowrys for money and they're almost always pre-arranged. This practice is a cultural habit and is going to require to change the countries leaders ideas because they, too, practice these cultural habits.

    At around 3:30 she says, ''I couldn't speak the language''. This is why its important for immigrants to learn English. Because otherwise they are isolated from the rest of society, and lose their independence.

    • @MarcusCato275
      @MarcusCato275 6 років тому +4

      if you're smuggled in with the intention of being forced into submissive labour what point is there for a trafficker to teach their victim to speak the native language where you could use against them by reporting them?

    • @awesomeavenger2810
      @awesomeavenger2810 6 років тому +2

      This doesnt just apply to a few trafficked workers. It applies to all immigrants. If you don't speak the language you can't get a job. You can't read about your rights. You can't communicate with neighbours, the authorities, etc.

    • @MarcusCato275
      @MarcusCato275 6 років тому +3

      Awesome Avenger You've missed the point. Legal and officially transparent immigrants need to comprehend and speak the native language of their adopted country to work, contribute and in emergencies seek help. Such immigrants usually enter the country under their own volition and so should strive to integrate as much as possible into their adopted country in order to thrive and prosper. If I speak on principle, yes trafficked people should learn the native language in order to seek help but in reality, principle is impractical considering the victim's circumstances. The video talks of trafficked people who were manipulated, blackmailed, threatened and forced into a entering a country that is not of their own choosing. The trafficker has no interest to adequately provide the language skills needed for their victims. only enough to understand simple instructions, orders or threats. If their victim learns the enough of the native language it is to the traffickers detriment as the victim could seek help. Further the trafficker has no interest to tell their victims too much of the services the host country has to offer otherwise again their victim knows help is available and they don't feel trapped by their traffickers knowing services are available to help them. Why would a trafficker allow their victims easy access to channels which could liberate their victims and see themselves locked behind bars? The victims are made to feel and think that they are paralyzed by the traffickers; they don't have access to services, their language skills is to low and there's no tutelage to improve on it to seek help, their family back home is threatened and if they dare to break free their loved ones lives are forfeit. That's how traffickers treat their victims and keep them under control; by severing lines of communication from their victims. I talked of the traffickers having responsibility to teach their victims the native language and my points clearly demonstrate the impracticality and dangers to themselves if they gave their victims this skill. Now let's say if the victims want to learn the language themselves. Ask yourself, how would they do that? Are they paid enough (or indeed if they are paid anything at all) to afford to go English classes or to receive tutelage? Would their traffickers permit their victims to go English classes, their victims free and unsupervised and thus liable to run away or attempt to seek help? Are they not treated like beasts of burden whose day are filled with nothing but tiring work and thus have no spare time to attend such classes? Even if the victims want to learn the native language themselves its not practical for them.

    • @awesomeavenger2810
      @awesomeavenger2810 6 років тому

      I can only repeat my last post _This doesnt just apply to a few trafficked workers. It applies to all immigrants. If you don't speak the language you can't get a job. You can't read about your rights. You can't communicate with neighbours, the authorities, etc._

    • @MarcusCato275
      @MarcusCato275 6 років тому

      Awesome Avenger I agree with you that on principle all immigrants need to learn their adopted country's language. Legal immigrants are pointed too and are encouraged to access services to help them in this endeavour. But this video is about illegally trafficked immigrants where it is not practical for them to learn the host countries language. You have ignored the points I have made specifically concerning illegally trafficked immigrants. My points stand as you have not addressed them and continue to assume the video and what I'm talking about are immigrants in general regardless of the circumstances of how they have come to be in their host country.

Organised crime is generally not put off by the idea of murder after all hell those that she met are very likely blackmailed victims themselves it's the easiest way for the real higher ups that are making the cash from it to keep well out of any risk.

    That saddest part is that she came from an apparently Islamic culture. But oppression like this, let alone beating one’s wife like this is against Islamic principle. Islam is a religion of peace. It’s the people that aren’t following it the way they’re supposed to. We disregard any part of the religion we don’t like unless it’s blatantly made popular (i.e. eating pork). This is absolutely intolerable in the eyes of Islam but with the corrupt and the powerful are doing what they’ve always done, find reasons to be above the law.
    It’s very disheartening every time I see things like this.

      Islam is not a pacifist religion. Learn about the history of Islam, and you will see that the religion was born in an area where the first converted masses were surrounded by hostile societies that would have stomped them out had they not defended themselves through war. Right or wrong, war was survival. And they won, since had they lost, there would be no Islam today.
      Islam preaches peace while advocating for its self preservation, through battle, if necessary. And it is that self preservation that has been subverted by extremism. All those verses about war and infidels that people quote in an attempt to show how barbaric Islam is taken out of context - and in most cases, cherry picked while ignoring the verses that come straight before and after.
      I'm not religious. I've just studied religion at university, from Egyptian to Germanic to Eastern and Abrahamic. The reason I don't, personally find 'faith' to be useless for me, is because once you study all these different religions, you can see the common threads that have influenced each religion. Take for example, the Flood Narrative of Noah's Arc found in Christianity. An eerily similarly narrative can be found in the ancient Mesopotamian religion that pre dates Christianity by around 3500 years. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not bias in my statement about Islam.
      Learn the facts and ignorance becomes dust in the wind.
      Good day, sirs and ladies.

      Islam is against abuse of all kinds; oppression towards other people, animals, nature; it is against waste, murder, and violence. This one verse might help;
      مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَٰلِكَ كَتَبْنَا عَلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَنَّهُ مَن قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ ثُمَّ إِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنْهُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فِي الْأَرْضِ لَمُسْرِفُونَ
      “Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.”
      - Quran, 5:32, Sahih International

    News should be about facts and truth
    BBC reveal the name of her native land
    There must be many SARAs around
    Rescue them earlier
    Don't wait for them to come to you and tell their stories individually .

      The BBC is a media corporation not the SAS, they aren't going to be rescuing anyone. Btw I think Sara was a fake name.

      Well what the hell do you expect the BBC to do? There a media company. Its like whining because the channel 4 news is only reporting on ISIS rather than fighting them.
