    You impress me kid! You’ve got great taste and can actually appreciate the early c4 for what it is and how freaking awesome they are! Honestly you never hear of younger kids your age even acknowledging these cars let alone owning one and taking pride in it. Good for you! We need more of your generation to follow your example. Nice car! looks good keep it up.

      Thank you so much. At the time of purchase it was the only Corvette I could afford and every time something breaks I want to sell it, but instead I fix it and as soon as I drive the car, I know it was a good idea to keep it. Also, everyone gives me crap for it's slow straight line performance but none of them have ever been around a corner in it.

      It only matters what you think and like. There’s always going to be people like that! Ignore them. I first cut my teeth on my 85 and ever since i owned that very first one I didn’t wanna know nothin about any other car period! That’s how addicting and fun these cars are. I’m a huge early c4 enthusiast, mainly 85-91 Tpi vettes but I would like to find a really nice all original low mile crossfire to add to my collection some day. Learn everything you can about yours then just keep moving your way up from there. The knowledge and self gratification you will get is priceless.

    I know someone that loved them more,In April 1984 They bought Two a gold one and a red one for over $ 50K . It was hysterical they parked them at right angles to each other in their driveway! I remember the wife was a kook and he was just a little loopy, never buy a first year model of GM for any reason and the 85 model had bosch fuel injection that made more everything including fuel economy. luckily for me in 1987 A week before Christmas a 1986 convertible vette was in the newspaper as best offer accepted, the car had a electrical problem no one could fix and the owner sold it for half what he paid $17K I knew someone who worked at a chevy dealer and he said the fog lights were causing the brake lights to go out so he just used different lower current bulbs in the fog lights which cured the problem!

    I definitely want a C4 one day, it's one of my dream cars, specifically the 84. Probably the same color as yours as well. The '84 is cool because it's unique, but if I were to do it all over again I'd probably get an 88-91 so I have the old body style but could do more suspension mods. Also, that's the L98 at its best.

    No, the 84s are NOT underrated! The cease fire injection was a disaster, period, and the overly stiff suspension didn't help. The 85s and up were much better cars.

    • @jfisch
      @jfisch  4 роки тому

      Too bad my "ceasefire" is still running like a champ, has never broke down, and has never lost to a carb. It's a real shame. Also the stiff suspension is just a side effect of great handling and since I'm not old enough to have back problems, I don't care.

      Haha for sure. When I first bought the car I wanted to swap the wheels but I've grown to like the old salad shooters. Hopefully I can have them refinished someday. I know it's not fast but it is a ton of fun, and yes, the cup holders do kind of suck.

      @rklystron 5 років тому

      @@jfisch Do not spend over $550.00 on a Renegade . You may find it cheaper. The stock ports are stupid and really restrict the engines air flow. Have you seen a picture of the stock intake port? If not you will not believe it. Like I said stupid. Also stupid examine how air gets into the hood plenum from the front spoiler. It doesn't. You need to cut a hole where the hood plenum meets the Shroud. I will bet when you see it, you will go, Hmmm. What the hell. Fun stuff!!

    • @rklystron
      @rklystron 5 років тому

      @@jfisch I think it works pretty well. The port size is much better. That and the new Dart heads I received from Summit should make a positive difference. The heads were affordable and I ported and polished them. That alone took about 2 weeks.

  • @retiresoon5639
    @retiresoon5639 5 років тому +1

    The only real problem with the 84 was the turd crossfire injection. Chevy brought it out on the 82 corvette first. Probably one of the worse intake designs for a V8 car. There isn't much of anything you can do to it to make it much better outside of replacing it. The throttle bodies really wasn't the problem it was the intake design . I am an older guy and remember the 84 when it was new. very ground breaking at the time . Even when they were new people hated the cross fire. It didn't take long for the after market to offer alternatives.

Mine had some oil leaks and still burns some but has never broke down. Depending on how I drive I get anywhere from 16-22 mpg. These are both beautiful and iconic cars. Im almost 19 and my friends are making fun of me for wanting to purchase one because they’re “underpowered” and “slow”. They want me to purchase a prelude and do a k swap. I personally have always loved these cars ever since I sat inside of one at a car show. Yeah, even the later L98 cars have significantly more power than my '84. If you get a TPI or LT1 you can tell your friends to shove it, because they aren't slow, and it would be way cheaper to make one of them "fast" than an engine swap in a Honda. Also, rear wheel drive is the way to go if you actually want to have fun doing anything besides going in a straight line. Hope you get a good one.

    • @rubyred93chev
      @rubyred93chev 5 років тому +1

      @TheDuck My '96 convertible also gets lots of attention too. Indeed, the fourth gen over the thirteen model years, sold a whopping 358,180 cars. Actually the C5 was to be introduced as a 40th anniversary in 1993, but the bean counters decided to freshen the interior for 1994, amongst other small upgrades, and save the general a bunch of money pushing back the C5 until 1997. (For a company once flush with cash, the late 80's, and early 90's saw GM having cash flow problems, save for the Corvette).

      Honestly, I'd look for an 85 or later because they aren't much more expensive than an 84 and there's quite a bit of extra power to be had out of the L98. The only reason I got an 84 is because I knew nothing about cars when I bought mine. XD
