@@jfisch yes son,,,but I'm 58,,,lol,,,I have 11 classic cars, my hobby is buying and restoring classic cars, I ran up on the vette in buyers guide, I thought it was a mistake, lol,,,and many didn't call because they thought so too, the paint was rough, but it only took me a weekend to make it look and run good,, I've had many offers, but as a collector I know the 84 ,4 on 3, and even crossfire will be historical, being the first year of the new body style, and all the suspension and performance changes, they really are a engineering marvel. It's medium blue metallic. The paint was crap when I bought it and I had it redone for $2500. Most people don't like it but I couldn't afford a color change, blue is my favorite color, and I don't give two craps what they think.

I had a 85 and 86 they were cool cars for the times. Z51’s handled awesome and great braking. The car would fall on its face up over 4500 RPM. I think the tune port just ran out of fuel at that point. That was disappointing to people used to high winding small blocks. These cars are hard to beat for the price now tho.
I have a blue 1984 c4vette . I just lost my four wheel drive mitsubishi montero due to bad transmission . Do you have to smog your corvette in your state if not its ok . I have to so it will be difficult to pass . I have to fix my leaky intake manifold then ill be ok👌. My 84 only has 205 . which tpi gave 35 more but in California you cant modify your vehicle . So Im stuck with 205 crossfire stock exhuast .
Nice video young sir! I was 15 in 1985 and was awestruck when these rolled out. Those “Atari” instrument panels are RAD as hell. Just recently bought my first C4, a 93. Hope you enjoy many miles in that and stay safe!

Mine used to do that too! I think it's pretty common and I'm honestly not sure what fixed it. It was either balancing the throttle bodies, replacing the coolant temp sensor in front of the intake, or getting an EBL Flash 2. Sounds like you got a great deal, these cars are a ton of fun. @@turboeddude4849 I've never had the top off because mine is glass so it always feels open. It's technically a targa so no bar in the middle. Everyone says when you take it out the chassis basically goes into limp noodle form. The coupe with the top in is more rigid than the convertible though. Mine had some oil leaks and still burns some but has never broke down. Depending on how I drive I get anywhere from 16-22 mpg. The reliability of these cars seem to be largely reliant on how they've been maintained in the past.

I had an 84 in this very blue. Was a great car. Maybe not the fastest, but its not slow. It handled incredible, though very rough. 5 link racing rear suspension. Loved my 84!
I remember well, The release of the then all new Corvette, it's very true GM made a host of important improvements to the C4 platform each year until the end of the platform in 96. Even borrowing the tunedport5.7 for the 87 Iroc Z. It's great to see a young person enjoying a car like this. Rare these days! The newer gen Vett, And a lot of other cars in general are far more technologically advanced, But in 1984, The all new Vette was at the top of the technology heap!
Yeah I know. That's why I hate when people say it's slow or it's bad. It may be slow now but when it came out it was groundbreaking. It's fun to drive too.
Flyin back to Va may 1 to pick up my step dads. 2500 mi drive back to California in that exact same car. Mines got 58k. Cross fingers and or shoot me tips for it on a long ass drive in a 35year old beast. 🤘🏼 good vid dude.

Very nice car. I like it that it's mostly stock and love the color. I had two 84's in the mid 80's when they were the brand new revolution and were the thing. I was about your age. I wish you could experience the sensation you would get when you had everything you love but also that brand new cqr feel. I was always amazed at the holeshot quickness. I used to race motorcycles mine and outrun them at takeoff. I have an 89 now and it's a dog for power. Wierd that the 84's just felt faster and maybe it was the gearing. Enjoyed the video.
I just got my 87 with 37k miles and 2 new sets of wheels for 6500 it was beat up from the interior a vacume leak and the cheap window seals falling apart other than that I love it
Good to see how well kept your 84 vette is,most people leave vettes outside for years waisting away, either the vettes been well taken care of, or its neen dogged,i have 2 c4 vettes and they love me,their right in my garage and covered.
It's insured as a secondary historic vehicle. I'm limited to 5k miles a year but it's only $180 every 6 months. My daily is a 2016 Mazda 6 and it costs $580 every 6 months. Big oof. 😂
Electric windows are great until they break but honestly I'd never get this car out in the summer if it didn't have AC. The glass roof makes it like an oven. I can drive when it's 70° with both windows down and still sweat through my shirt. 😂
As someone who remembers the 1980s I'm glad to see younger people appreciate not only the Corvette, but other things from that era as well. Thanks for the video.
Good video. I'm glad you love and engage with your C4. They are great road cars. I have a 90 coupe, nothing but stock and I love it. Happy driving James.
These are both beautiful and iconic cars. Im almost 19 and my friends are making fun of me for wanting to purchase one because they’re “underpowered” and “slow”. They want me to purchase a prelude and do a k swap. I personally have always loved these cars ever since I sat inside of one at a car show. I am planning on getting one around 20 years old or hopefully earlier than that. I’d like an early 90s one because I love the LT1 engines
Yeah, even the later L98 cars have significantly more power than my '84. If you get a TPI or LT1 you can tell your friends to shove it, because they aren't slow, and it would be way cheaper to make one of them "fast" than an engine swap in a Honda. Also, rear wheel drive is the way to go if you actually want to have fun doing anything besides going in a straight line. Hope you get a good one.
J Fisch I’ll end up getting a 91 polo green more then likely. I like the TPI systems because you a cool retro badge on the side of the corvette that says tuned port injection. Thanks for the positive feedback. Hope all goes well for you and your good looking 84 corvette.
@TheDuck And it was considered the fastest production American car at the time. Granted the final C4 year in the LT4 guise was pistol quick. I always remind folks the C4 pretty much saved Corvette's behind from the chopping block. Today, Corvettes are still an American Icon, and beyond fast!
@TheDuck My '96 convertible also gets lots of attention too. Indeed, the fourth gen over the thirteen model years, sold a whopping 358,180 cars. Actually the C5 was to be introduced as a 40th anniversary in 1993, but the bean counters decided to freshen the interior for 1994, amongst other small upgrades, and save the general a bunch of money pushing back the C5 until 1997. (For a company once flush with cash, the late 80's, and early 90's saw GM having cash flow problems, save for the Corvette).
19 years old here, a good friend of mine bought a white 93 C4 nearly a year ago and he gave me the C4 virus. Been looking at the 84 and later 87 as I just adore the 80s styling over the later 90s C4s. Hoping to buy a decent one for 10k here soon. You've got a really nice 84 here James! It's got to be the most underrated C4 out there, with the C4 already being the most underrated Corvette. The Crossfire engine, despite its issues, is still a rock solid Chevy small block. Awesome car, and seriously underrated!
Haha. The C4 virus can be very contagious. If the '87 is in good shape, I'd definitely go for it. chevyguy168 on Instagram recently put a 383 in his TPI car and before he did that it was running a 13.1 quarter with a ported intake, heads, and long tube headers. Unfortunately the shutdown of Renegade production has really put a cramp on modifying the CFI without going to a different injection system.
@@jfisch From what I know, the CFI system is just being starved because all 80s cars were built under strict emission laws. Really unfortunate because it's a perfectly capable engine if it wasn't being clogged up by all the emission gunk lol. What part of MO are you in btw? I was pleasantly surprised to see that you lived here lol, me and my friend are in the St Louis area, we also have a friend out in Lake St Louis with a really nice purple C4 that he autocrosses from time to time. You could say I'm feeling left out without a Vette of my own! Haha. Shame about the Renegade shutdown, they helped bring the L83 up to L98 numbers.
I'm in west central Missouri really close to Kansas. I've only been to St. Louis once haha. That's cool that he is able to do autocross. I always thought that'd be fun since the C4 is probably a lot better at it than drag racing. XD My 15.1 timeslip isn't too impressive.
I do not have the skills to do that so I figure I just buy a Renegade and be done with it. The only thing is you don't have to worry about the intake not going back on correctly after you port and polish it. The Renegade is know to have qc issues but maybe I'll get lucky and get a good one on the first order.
@@jfisch it's really not hard, you can use a dremel tool with grinding wheels and file off all the rough surfaces and open all passages as much as you can, but I like the color of your vette more them mine, I might have to change mine . That blue is beautiful
@@georgespangler1517 THe biggest improvement you can make to them is to get rid of the turbulator under the throttle bodies. They are very restrictive and are there to help with fuel atomization.

Mid America Motorworks quad power mufflers for about $300. I also have the Melrose Smoothflow Exhaust long tube headers and piping but the EPA basically shut them down so they're no longer available.
J Fisch ; I agree and I’ve heard and read about the same situation with quality control on their intakes. But I do believe they do make a noticeable difference in performance.
I understand. It's probably even more now with better tires. I always rub that fact in my mom's face because her Challenger cornering feels like you're going to die.
J Fisch mine has 80k more than that on it, I saw once somebody had like 800k on one of these and donated it to the corvette museum in bowling green. They’re great cars, the torque of a l98 could twist some cars like a pretzel.

I shipped my instrument cluster off for a power supply replacement yesterday and my cruise control no longer works but other than that everything works exactly like it's supposed to.
Honestly, I'd look for an 85 or later because they aren't much more expensive than an 84 and there's quite a bit of extra power to be had out of the L98. The only reason I got an 84 is because I knew nothing about cars when I bought mine. XD

Acquired a 85 about a year ago for 3 grand with 98 thousand miles. Adult owned I'm am the 4th owner. It's my dream car! Planning to be buried in it ! 💖
I'm glad you were able to buy one although I'd spend the money on the car and not the extra grave space required to be buried in it. XD
I have an 84 and I'm about 3 times your age...Ha
Maybe I'll still have it when I'm 3 times my age and be able to say the same thing to someone else. 😂
I'm fond of my 85 as well (most of the time...).
I want one so bad!!!
Just make sure it's a TPI car. 😂
I bought a 84 vette for 700 dollars, 112,000 miles, sat for 12 years , they couldn't get it started, I fixed it myself for nothing, security device, 4 speed, a lot of fun, I think the best looking vettes ever
If I was smarter when I bought my car I might have been able to get a good deal like you. I'm glad you also get the great experience of owning one of these and I'd have to agree that they're some of the best looking Corvettes.
What is name of the color of your vette, I didn't like the wheels much, but the blue really sets them off.
It's medium blue metallic. The paint was crap when I bought it and I had it redone for $2500. Most people don't like it but I couldn't afford a color change, blue is my favorite color, and I don't give two craps what they think.
I just got an 84 c4 .....it has a 383 stroker and it still has the crazy dash ...and a gorgeous cobalt blue paint job! Good job with your video!
Thanks. Your car sounds awesome.
Ya, we can tell you weren't born in the 80's. I bet that 205 Hp keeps you pinned to your seat
It does a pretty good job in 1st and 2nd but by 3rd and 4th I'm rocking in the seat trying to make it go faster. 😂
I liked these two videos...I watched them back to back....now I dont know WHAT to do! HAHAHAHAH!
I'm glad you enjoyed. I'll get around to recording a video for my exhaust soon but I'm still getting all my stuff for college lined out. 😂
I have a 1986 silver with manual, high torque these cars have in 1st and 2nd gear, silver on mine high gloss repainted and new interior, wish I could attach a picture of it for you, thanks
I imagine it looks great.
Nice looking 84. its I great condition, manual transmission and shiny paint. Very classy. glad to see you appreciate it for what it is and enjoy it. I love to drive my C4. feels cool and sounds cool, sits low and handles good. gives you a great feeling when you drive it.
Yeah. It's not too fast but it sure is fun.
Nice car.i love the 80's corvettes.i was around 17 and my friend had a brown 84(this was in 87 ,so the car was only 3 yrs old.it was so much fun to cruise in,we were the envy of the whole school.got looks from the ladies too.cool car, tweek her s little bit and enjoy.
Thanks man. My dad was born in '70 so these were the cars of his teen years as well. Not the fastest, but definitely a ton of fun.
Everything about this comment is correct.
I had a red one in 1999 for about 2 months or so. All original with 82k miles on engine. Loved that car and the sound it made
That's cool that you got to own one as well and I have to agree that the cars do sound good.
That sucks. Here in Missouri the car is old enough I can do whatever I want.
I have an 82 z28 Camaro with the crossfire and also live in California. We'll see how things go..I had no idea Cali had such strict regulations.
I just bought an 84 Vette. The exhaust is stock now but I want to change that. What did you do to your exhaust to make it sound better?
Melrose Smoothflow Exhaust system and Mid America Motorworks Quad Power Mufflers. Melrose doesn't make the headers anymore
Nice video young sir! I was 15 in 1985 and was awestruck when these rolled out. Those “Atari” instrument panels are RAD as hell. Just recently bought my first C4, a 93. Hope you enjoy many miles in that and stay safe!
You too and great buy on the '93. Definitely has more umph than the ol 84.
I meant to say I was 15 in 1984 but fat thumb syndrome strikes again haha.
You forgot how cheap you can buy one for.
Yeah, I guess I did. XD
Dude i just got my C4. I loved them for yrs same reasons and looks like i am just north of you so lets hang out and drive...
Yeah, I think the looks on the C4 are underrated. I'm glad you were able to buy one. That's awesome.
Nice car. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the CFI. It's a reliable fuel system, and does what it is supposed to do. An old car is a labour of love, including the 84. Enjoy your car!
All good reasons. You love what you love. Nice car
the hood is 105 lbs the shock lifts help greatly. I have an 84 also. just fighting with the cross-fire injection. boo hoo
Hope you get it worked out. The injection hasn't caused me any issues yet
My uncle had an 84 cross fire vet, in red. The body style of C4 vets is timeless. I like that blue color.
@@docwillis1443 a red Corvette! Classic color. I like the blue too. And yeah you're right, the C4 body style is great for sure. I love how unique it is
Is this your first car?? Because I'm thinking about buying a C4 but want to get opinions of owners to know if this would be a good first car for me
It was my first car but my family had a pickup they'd let me drive if the weather was bad or if the Vette was in the shop. You could daily the Vette for the most part but I wouldn't recommend it as your only available option.
Great car, but at 205hp it’s just too weak. I got the 1988 which makes 245hp and I’d say that’s pretty good.
Torque wins races 👀
@@TheCosmicGuy0111 Yeah and it made 290lb-ft while the TPI 1985-1990 made 340lb-ft
1984 wasn’t winning any races. The damn thing did the 1/4 in 15.2 seconds @ 90mph
C4 corvette only had the crossfire engine for one year which is your year the 1984.
It was on the 1982 as well.
J Fisch 82 isn’t a c4
Im thinking about buying my grandpas 84. It hasnt run in 10 years cause it needs a new transmission. He has a new one for it but he hasnt had time to put it in so i want to buy it from him then fix it up and have it as a first car. My dad has a 69 vette were restoring right now so im gonna buy it from him adter we get are vette done.
That's awesome. Mine wasn't much of a resto project but while you're at it you'll want to make sure to add some power. 😂
@@jfisch my dad has always wanted power steering in it but we've sunk all the money to the rear end at the moment cause thats what were mainly fixing
I just bought a 1984 Corvette and it had 56,000 miles on it and I love it. Great deal $4,500. It's silver and grey. The only thing it's when you started as rough idle than you wait a little while then it smooths out really nice 👍❤️❤️ yours is very nice 👍
I wish you the best
@@jfisch thank you yeah I never had a Corvette before Chevy also own a 66 barracuda for speed so I haven't both of my driveway and I drive each one different days but I usually drive the Corvette mostly. Thanks for your video take care brother 👍❤️ PS I know four is spelled f o u r 😂😂😂
I am pretty sure that is David Sedaris.
Not sure if that's good or bad. 😂
I love my first 55 Chevy. I have a 75 Corvette, and a 82 collectors edition, it wasn't planned, but I think they are cool , I love the first c4, 1984. It's the first real race car Corvette, keep it, learn it. Historical.
Thanks, sounds like you have quite the collection
My 82 has cross fire injection, it's runs AWSOME, just get a code reader, change censors, ( they are old). And be changing vacuum lines, nobody hardly knows this 2 year only system, it's great to have something so rare. Any, keep making vids, I'll keep watching bud!
I'm just liking and commenting to drive more traffic to your channel because I like your C4 and so do many other Vette enthusiasts. :)
Haha thanks. I need to upload more sometime
I love my 1991 Corvette it has the L98
Wish my c6 had a clamshell good. That is soooo racecarish
I wish my C4 had the horsepower of the C6. 😂
day we will be discussing 0:00
Yeah. I kind of cut off the "to" in "today."
@@jfisch Lol. Hows the visibility and open feel when the t top is down'off? I want a convertible but I like the t top how the back windshield extends out further. Also whats gas mileage and reliability like? That's my main concern.
@@jfisch Wow thanks for all the information man. Also yeah sorry I meant targa. Been gettin those words mixed up recently lol.
I bought a 1987 c4 this last summer..I put a few Vids on mine..There dope ass cars..My dad owns a 1984 c4(yellow). Nice car you own🇺🇸💪
Thanks and I'm glad you get to experience a C4 as well. They may not be the fastest but they are certainly fun.
@@jfisch I deleted my Cats and mufflers..I did a video on how it sounds..Its a screamer. There such stylish cars..Today's are all about 200 plus MPH. Mine hit 135 mph..Thats were I felt were it was good enough for me. Want to Beef up the top end more.
I've only been up to 135 in mine as well. They're supposed to go 140 but I ran out of road. One time at that speed is enough for me in a car like the '84.
Good for you 😃
I like your honesty. Just keep being the coolest you that you can be!Stay AWESOME!!
Live this video! Hey man can I get a hold of ya somehow? I'm a junior in highschool and legit just picked up an 84 c4 for 3500 bucks and wanna ask ya a few questions about urs. Nice vid btw
Yeah. My insta is @j**********
Those sidewalls look so TALL. Kinda don't realize just how 'low profile' all of the tires are now. Regardless, looks good. The C4 is sexy as hell.
Yeah. I could get even more with some 285's but oh well. 😂
Why did you do
A hate video
This one should be good 👍
I did a good and bad video. 👍
I had an 84 in this very blue. Was a great car. Maybe not the fastest, but its not slow. It handled incredible, though very rough. 5 link racing rear suspension. Loved my 84!
Exactly! People love to hate it because it's not super fast but it's fun. Glad you enjoyed yours.
Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed. I've never driven my car more than a couple hours at a time but it's never left me stranded. Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine.
my '84 had a targa top and was the exact same color...lol
It's a great color.
@@jfisch yrah...i loved it. looks even better in person
Thanks. I wish I could experience the 84 when it was top dog. Now it's considered slow. 😂
What muffler did you put on it?
@@TwentyFortySeven mid America motorworks quad power mufflers. Still love them
I bought 7 months ago and I love it
That's great.
Where can i get that intake that adds 30hp?
Well it's not produced anymore so you can't unless you find a used one 😂
I just got my 87 with 37k miles and 2 new sets of wheels for 6500 it was beat up from the interior a vacume leak and the cheap window seals falling apart other than that I love it
Sounds like you got quite the deal as long as the motor is good.
Good to see how well kept your 84 vette is,most people leave vettes outside for years waisting away, either the vettes been well taken care of, or its neen dogged,i have 2 c4 vettes and they love me,their right in my garage and covered.
That's great that you have 2. C4's are great cars.
how do you pay for the car insurance? My parents say that it is WAY to much for me to buy one.
It's insured as a secondary historic vehicle. I'm limited to 5k miles a year but it's only $180 every 6 months. My daily is a 2016 Mazda 6 and it costs $580 every 6 months. Big oof. 😂
I just wish ac & elec windows were never used
Electric windows are great until they break but honestly I'd never get this car out in the summer if it didn't have AC. The glass roof makes it like an oven. I can drive when it's 70° with both windows down and still sweat through my shirt. 😂
@@jfisch i like sweat. But the ol days no ones wanted power brakes,
As someone who remembers the 1980s I'm glad to see younger people appreciate not only the Corvette, but other things from that era as well. Thanks for the video.
There may be more to come soon since the transmission went out. 😂
@@jfisch Oh sorry to hear that.
Good video. I'm glad you love and engage with your C4. They are great road cars. I have a 90 coupe, nothing but stock and I love it. Happy driving James.
Thanks, and I'd have to agree that the C4 is a great road car. Your '90 is quite a bit faster than my '84 though. XD
The 84 model year was so slooooooow tho
Exactly.
I want to buy it how much
15k and it's yours 😂😂😂
Love it! Go check out our 84 corvette 🏁
I ported and polished the intake and it really helped the performance.
