@@tateanderson213 Not the safest (think about a throw to the corner of the end zone), but had it been executed correctly, it might have been pretty safe. matt man We would get the ball back if they scored, that timeout would be used on the "game winning drive" that we never had to do thanks to Malcolm Butler. I know though, I was screaming for them to take a time-out, my mind could not understand Belichick's wizardry ,he wasn't even worried lol. He had faith in that Defense that REALLY paid off.
trevpari23 I personally wanted Bill to just let them walk in for the TD and let Brady do what he does best with 2 time outs and a minute on the clock. All he would need to do was at least get in field goal range but I guess thats why I am not a coach lol
By not taking a timeout, Bill kinda forced the Seahawks to throw. Because if Lynch hadn't scored after running it then, they would be pretty screwed. The Seahawks would have had to use their final timeout and only had time for one play max.
Nathaniel Newman Well actually you run first then take the time out. Now they would have 20 seconds. So they would have 3 more plays throwing into the end zone.

It had been a full decade since their last championship and this game was just all around better than Super Bowl 51. 51 was great, but 49 was exciting from both sides, start to finish. Not a tail of two halves.
Could've should've would've. It happened. I could say they wouldn't have never been in that position if jermaine Kearse didn't get that crazy catch, but that happened regardless it doesn't matter what they should've done or saying that would have won if they ran the ball. Every single play in the game affects the game. If one little play didn't happened it might've been 40-0 Seahawks win or 40-0 pats win
Pick play isn't fancy. It was one of the top percentage scoring plays that season. You have to play near perfect and jump the route to even have a chance to defend. Browner jammed kease properly, Butler beat him to the spot where the ball was going by selling out to it. Lynch was 1/5 on scoring from the one yard line that season. Pick play to score in the redzone was nearly 100% by all teams that season.
The problem is it was 2nd down And running has less risk of losing ball than passing They can run this down and even if they failed, try pass at 3rd or 4th down So why took unnecessary risk? That's why this is a bad call
THEY DIDN'T THROW IT AWAY. THAT SAME PLAY WORKED IN THE 3RD QUARTER, WHEN IT WAS 14-14 M.L.GOT IT TO THE 3 YD LINE, AND DID THEY RUN HIM? NO THEY DID THE PLAY FAKE, AND GOT THE TD, THEY TRIED THE SAME THING THAT HAD JUST WORKED, BUT BECAUSE IT DID NOT WORK ON THE END, >>>>OH RIGGED, HOW COULD THEY HAVE DONE THAT?
I looked away before the interception occurred; I could’ve sworn they would punch it in on a run. I heard my friends call out interception and I thought they were trolling. Turned around and sure enough, the pats were Super Bowl champs again and I started cryin on the floor lol. Incredible comeback
I broke a chair after running around my house in excitement following the Butler pick. To this day that chair has not been repaired. I smile every time I look at it.
I was at a Patriots bar watching this and the ENTIRE bar was silent, accepting Seattle was going to score and win it. When the interception happened the bar went crazy and the owner passed around shots to the hundreds there. It was EPIC!
I know it wasn't the most professional, but that defense played their heart out that game and had to watch it get thrown away (literally) at the very end from the sideline. They were all frustrated
@@eanayac actually if you look back on Seattle that year, even with a decent O line and Lynch, they were one of the worst teams in gaining short yardage. 🤷♂️
Is this the toughest Super Bowl loss ever? I think so, my top 5. 1. Seahawks Super Bowl 49 [gotta run the ball there] 2. Patriots Super Bowl 42 [Gotta bring down Eli Manning there] 3. Bills Super Bowl 25 [Gotta make that field Goal] 4. Falcons Super Bowl 51 [Gotta play smarter in the 4th quarter offensively with a huge lead, or get just 1 defensive stop] 5. Titans Super Bowl 34 [Gotta grow longer arms Kevin Dyson]
Seahawks won the year before so it's not that bad. Falcons is the worst. Titans is close because they were a yard away. Bills because it's the bills nothing goes their way.
Falcons losing was easily the worst Super Bowl loss of all time. Many teams get blown out because they simply don't match up talent wise, but Atlanta had the Super Bowl trophy in their hands basically and they gassed out and made stupid calls in the second half. They rested on their Laurels against the freaking Patriots of all teams. I think they could of gotten away with the slacking off against any other team in the league that year, but not against New England.
Ashlin - Simon was a starter at LSU who was drafted by the Seahawks. Malcolm Butler was an undrafted, 4th string CB for the Patriots who played at Hinds Community College and at West Alabama (D-2) before going to work at Popeye's Chicken. Excuses are for losers. Both Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick will tell you the same. Take a lap chump.
shiauZOOMer yeah they must all really be down in the dumps right now. Truly astonishing how much a 1/4 psi under regulation 2 years ago can rob the joy out of 2 Super Bowl victories.
shiauZOOMer also just to add, spygate was far worse than deflate gate. It was almost unanimously agreed that the actual infraction was minuscule and borderline irrelevant, it was about giving a stronger penalty after they got off on spygate and an attempt by Rodger Godell to prove he is big boy. He technically broke a rule so he was punished accordingly but not a single soul can make a solid argument as to how a minute difference in ball pressure taints the greatest dynasty in NFL history and ruined a franchises title and spirit. Ball pressure is also personal preference, same as many other equipment choices. So the lower pressure isn’t even a objective advantage, only the same as a wide receiver using gloves as opposed to going barehanded.
@@peterdonovan8710 2 championships and 3 SB appearances later, Patriot players and fans are still trying to convince themselves that the titles 2015 and earlier are legitimate.
Viewtiful Woe here I'll explain for you. That season Lynch had run from the 1 five times. You know how many times he got the TD? 1. That's a 20% chance that they get the TD. The Patriots were in goal line, so they were protecting against the run. Marshawn wouldn't have gotten it. And, the Patriots had all of their cornerbacks practice against that play a few times, Butler didn't make the play in practice, but he learned and did it when it counted.
As a Seahawks fan, I just got to say even though we lost, this is probably the greatest super bowl ever. A close neck and neck game between the best offenses and the best defenses only for what I hate to admit, but is probably the greatest super bowl play result ever. Just consider the circumstances. You’re at the one yard line, about to win the super bowl, 4th quarter, 30 seconds left on the game clock, with the best running back in the league, and you pass the ball only for a cornerback to be at the right place at the right time and intercepts the ball just wins the super bowl for the entire team. I feel jealous, but this super bowl was one for the books. Nothing but respect to this era of the Seahawks and Patriots. How about I change it up and make my life feel a bit better. So, about 28-3
@@daboss8302 18-1 was the greatest upset ever probably, but the actual Super Bowl wasn't that exciting. It was actually one of the most boring super bowls I've ever watched.

when Malcolm Butler intercepted that pass it was Like I got shot I was so mad 😂 but it was a good game I hate the patriots still but hey their still a great team lol
What always drives me insane about this play, is that everyone talks about Marshawn and a missed opportunity. If this play ended in a touchdown, people would be talking about the "brilliance" of Pete Carroll to throw instead of doing the obvious. What made this play happen was not a Seahawk failure, but Butler's experience in getting beat on this play multiple times. He was drilled on it by Coach Belichik and was ready for it this time around. Mad respect to the Seahawks for an incredible game.
Bottom line: if Marshawn ran it all four times and New England just flat-out stopped him, I could live with that. You've got to put the ball in his hands. I wouldn't have been talking about Pete Carroll's "brilliance". I'd been asking, what the hell was he thinking, risking it all on a pick play"? Would I have been happy? Sure, but it wouldn't have felt right because that's not who we are.
And for some reason, no one ever looks at the Patriots defensive package on that play. There's about a million pounds of flesh on the LOS, and every WR is essentially man-to-man (there's a single safety but he's too far back to do anything anyway). If you don't trust your offense to throw a TD on a pick play from the 1 with man across the board, you should just never throw a pass ever again. And the more likely "worst case" of that play is an incompletion, not an INT - which still gives you 3rd and a half a yard, with two chances for Lynch to punch it in. It's a sensible or even smart play call to run the pick play and throw it there, but given the outcome everyone thinks it was just stupid.
@@aidankearns2102 when your talking biggest comeback its pretty exciting especially in that 4th quarter. I agree that 49 was the better overall game with a exciting ending

LOL Bill is lucky that it turned out the way it did or the no time out could have been the dumbest decision ever made.
matt man We would get the ball back if they scored, that timeout would be used on the "game winning drive" that we never had to do thanks to Malcolm Butler.
If I could go back in time only once I'd go back to this game just to watch live again and relive the same excitement, what a rollercoaster

Man same best ever in my life time at 30 years old so far
This is why we don't play fancy at the one yard line kids.
The problem is it was 2nd down
And running has less risk of losing ball than passing
They can run this down and even if they failed, try pass at 3rd or 4th down
So why took unnecessary risk?
That's why this is a bad call
At least you can say, The Seahawks went down FIGHTING!!!

2. Patriots Super Bowl 42 [Gotta bring down Eli Manning there]
3. Bills Super Bowl 25 [Gotta make that field Goal]
4. Falcons Super Bowl 51 [Gotta play smarter in the 4th quarter offensively with a huge lead, or get just 1 defensive stop]
5. Titans Super Bowl 34 [Gotta grow longer arms Kevin Dyson]
Arch Hades nah falcons worse it’s a way bigger choke job
Seahawks won the year before so it's not that bad. Falcons is the worst. Titans is close because they were a yard away. Bills because it's the bills nothing goes their way.
Falcons losing was easily the worst Super Bowl loss of all time. Many teams get blown out because they simply don't match up talent wise, but Atlanta had the Super Bowl trophy in their hands basically and they gassed out and made stupid calls in the second half. They rested on their Laurels against the freaking Patriots of all teams. I think they could of gotten away with the slacking off against any other team in the league that year, but not against New England.
@@Pingo21 yeah but the Patriots have won a super bowl. Pats can live with a super bowl loss Falcons have never won and they should have.
Pretty good list
That last drive by the pats offense and Brady was masterful!
Any QB could do that vs a 3rd string CB
+Ashlin Mills 3rd string CB plus Sherman Thomas and Chancellor 😂 pretty difficult defense
Ashlin Mills You don't deserve to win the superbowl if one injury ruins your team. Talk about lack of depth.
Perfection would be going 8/8 with Lane covering Edelman, not a 3rd string backup.
Moral of the story: Seahawks should have drafted Malcom Butler as a WR.
You sorry folks think this was legit? 🤣 you’re the reason the NFL makes money! Remember that!
Seahawks haven’t been the same since, I think the Pats destroyed their spirit after this Super Bowl
Patriot's spirit and title were destroyed by Deflategate.
shiauZOOMer yeah they must all really be down in the dumps right now.
@@shiauSSO 2 championships and 3 SB appearances later....

Marshawn Lynch was 1 for 6 on goaline line carries inside the 1 yardline that year. Does that help paint the picture?

The Super Bowl that made Butler a household name
3 years later in super bowl 52 belichick benched Butler for the game
What always drives me insane about this play, is that everyone talks about Marshawn and a missed opportunity. If this play ended in a touchdown, people would be talking about the "brilliance" of Pete Carroll to throw instead of doing the obvious. What made this play happen was not a Seahawk failure, but Butler's experience in getting beat on this play multiple times. He was drilled on it by Coach Belichik and was ready for it this time around. Mad respect to the Seahawks for an incredible game.
Exactly
Not really. It's a risky play irrespective of the result. People would praise it if it worked because it was BOLD as hell. Russ should have ran it in.
Yeah if it was 4th down!! It was 2nd and 1
