How to Divide Oregano Plants and Start Them From Cuttings - A Step by Step Guide

- As you will see in this video, dividing Oregano is pretty easy to do. It's important that you not do it in mid summer, because it's usually too hot. In intense heat, the new divisions might struggle to get their roots started. When you take a division from the original plant, try to take as much soil, and as many roots as you can. That will help the new division get started in it's new location. When putting the division in the planting hole, make sure to keep the top of the root ball even with the surrounding soil. Once you have your new division planted, fill the hole you created when you removed it for the original plant. It's also a good idea to harvest some Oregano from the new division, leaving a few leaves on each stem. That will be less stressful for the new plant. It's damaged roots won't have to support that much foliage. Let us know if you've ever tried to divide Oregano or start it from cuttings. Please like, comment on, and share this video. It really does help my channel. Thanks for watching!

I absolutely love your video. You make this easy to follow! Thank you.
Glad to hear it! You're welcome!
I just moved my oregano plants yesterday, out of my garden beds and into the orchard. I split them up with a shovel, but didn't cut back the foliage as there isn't much on them at this time of year. Oregano is such an easy herb to grow, very hardy and can handle most conditions. I grew mine from seed, but will try propagating it from cuttings this summer, thanks for the tip!
I agree. It is pretty easy to grow. Hope it does well for you in it's new location. Ours is still pretty small right now.
Good morning. Great video. Great looking oregano plants. I put my oregano in my strawberry pots to keep it contained. It's starting to grow out of the strawberry pots openings. It looks really good. I dehydrated my cuttings for future use. Have a great weekend, we're having a rainy one😢😢😢😢. No gardening this weekend.
Thanks! No gardening here either. We are in the 30s today. That is a good idea on planting oregano in strawberry pots. I bet that does look good. Have a great weekend!
I like the flavour of oregano but, never grew it myself. I have a rosemary plant in a pot in front my apartment. It’s grown quite long. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Cheers!
It's pretty easy to grow. It might be worth a try. For me, it's slow to get going from seed, but does very well once it has some size. Have a great weekend!
Love it. There are many ways to propagate them. Thyme, tarragon and basil can also be propagated this way. Herbs liven up food.
I agree. Food wouldn't be the same without herbs.
Great information friend! 😊
Thank you! Hope the weather is treating you right out your way.
I've never done that...Thanks.
You're welcome!
Good morning! I've divided mint, but never oregano. Thank you for this video.
Good morning! Dividing them is pretty easy to do, and a great way to make more if you want to.
Good Morning Jim - How interesting you can sprout oregano in water too in making new plants. I generally just grow herbs in pots to refresh my dry herbs in the fall so have not tried to divide plants. Just starting some herbs indoors now to be ready when the weather changes. Hope you have a great weekend and take care..
Good morning Sue. Herbs are a lot of fun to grow. It's going to be time to really get the ball running before we know it. Have a great weekend!
Hi Jim. What is the best time of year to divide oregano?
I like to do it before the weather starts getting hot in the spring. In this video, I think it was June, which is much later than I like to do it.
@@MidwestGardener Ok thanks
It does not look very good.
Thanks for your feedback.
