SMIM is essential to get over any other mod, totally worth installing.
lol @12:45"the tables and shi... and chairs and things"
Gopher is great.
I always used SMIM and never went through the custom options, thanks for this video
Great! SMIM hardly blemished my 970. Thank you very much Gopher for these wonderful tutorials.
Recently decided to get back into Skyrim and start modding again. Your videos have been a joy to watch.
Cheers!
Gopher...you are a hero and a saint my friend. This series is simply amazing. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.
Did u think someone would follow this little series in 2020? Had the game for 8 years, never played it, starting to do so but need your thorough lessons to get me started. Thanks!
No but I am afraid UA-cam is slowly removing audio from all of my videos one by one.
I still come back to this series to refresh. fantastic series
Been watching your videos for nearly a year now, A1 quality mate, keep it up.
I love listening to your videos while looking for PC parts. I've been using mods for Skyrim for probably a year and a half now, but I think your videos are very relaxing, so I don't care. Anyway, keep making more great videos!
I have to say Gopher that, while I'm a fairly experienced mod user at this point, and I haven't really actually learned anything from these videos, I still find them entertaining to watch :)
gopher,i have been watching you for abotu a year now, really love you vids,i took a 3 months break from skyrim but watching your vids again made me start myself a new character!
Yeah that makes sense. Good thing we have these amazing mods to make it as it should be, immersive, gorgeous and all around fun.
at 12:45 it sounded that you were like 'the tables and shit...chairs look great' I luled. BTW great video I have been following this series since the first episode and so far I've installed every mod that you suggest to add. Thanks Gopher, you make a lot of PC Skyrim players happy with your classy and specific videos.
Gopher, your tutorials are absolutely fantastic. Your Fallout 3 tutorials made mine perfect and now that you're doing Skyrim tutorials I'll have to follow you every step of the way to make Skyrim perfect as well.
Cheers, and thanks for the tutorials.
I work with several browsers open pretty much 24/7 and yet to date I have never once found them amusing. Sometimes the content on them is amusing, but the browsers themselves have never really seemed that entertaining. Maybe if I squint a little I will see the humour?
Yes. I AM still pulling your leg :)
Still an odd obsession :)
i know how to install these mods, but this series is still realy good if you know what your doing, even a little bit because you learn allot of interesting things from it like how messes work for instance in this video in perticular
I develop a browser based application yes :) But I use multiple browsers making my mods and videos too. You can log on to UA-cam anonymously from another browser and look at your own channel as everyone else does.
Choosing the "lite" versions of the Skyrim HD texture mods is very smart advice. Even with my ridiculously overpowered gaming pc, 4k textures were causing horrible stuttering. After watching this video, I switched to lite and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision. My performance skyrocketed, even with all settings maxed. After all, Skyrim is a 32 bit game, so the engine itself will severely limit the full potential of even the best 64 bit gaming rig with an SSD and multicore GPU.
ok I just saw the end of the videa... I cannot wait for the next episode.. exactly what i've been looking for... hope it doesn't take too long. Thank you :)
Some water mods change meshes on things like water falls, rocks in water, water troughs etc. Pure Waters apparently does not so it does not conflict.
Even though I have used a bit of mods I realy like your seiris, it explains everything very good. I had some problems with some mods, but no more! Thanks you glorious man!
Still relevant in 2019. Thanks for guiding me through that screen.
Just watched part 4, went to chanel and...PART 5 posted 6 min ago!!! :D
I'm so happy! Thanks u are great, Gopher!
FYI - WATER does replace some textures from SMIM.
Honestly, you make some REALLY good tutorials on this channel. There well said and easy to follow. Its no wonder why you barley have any dislikes on your videos, these tutorials are fantastic!!!
It would be possible but would be pretty difficult. Pumping Iron merely moves the body slider a certain amount while sleeping depending on how certain skills have leveled up. A similar hair mod would either require a huge amount of hair textures/meshes to simulate hair growth in stages or a set order in which it would change hair pre-sets at certain times, meaning it would only use a certain chain of hairstyles and likely not the ones you wanted either.
Thank you tons for your videos, I love not being left alone with too much Information at once but learning slowly. This video series is great so far and I can't wait to see more of your stuff!
Also this might sound strange but your voice sounds surprisingly calming and I would actually believe every word you'd say.
(If there was a moment where I had to choose between Gandalf's advice and yours, I'd go with yours)
Great work,
Greetings from Germany!
I think that was genius on Bathesda's part, they focused on gameplay and loot while leaving the textures and graphics a bit on the bland side knowing they could easily be modded. Whether that was intentional or not, it still seems like a great formula IMO.
When you see Gopher's videos you can't help but think "Why the hell does this man care so much about one game and its community?!"
We all love you man.
I've found that RLO's interiors compliment CoT's exteriors pretty well. It's also pretty great when you're using predator vision, because it removes a lot of the interior fogs and such, so your night vision is much clearer and most areas don't get too bleached out.
Thank you so much for this video, wouldn't have made it without this guide =)
Gopher your vids are amazing because of this I leaned how to fix my game if I broke it and how to install mods thx a heap mate
Any idea when we can expect the next modding tutorial? I'm loving all of your videos Gopher, consider me a new subscriber!
Four. I did four :) And they will continue but I have a limited amount of time and have to prioritize.
For Skyrim. Well.. it just improves overall stability and there are more bug fixes and improvements. Just update them when you start a completely new character. Doing it on a current save is too much of a hassle since some mod updates don't apply until a new clean save or just take a lot of time to update. Some mods I noticed that are out of date are Skyrim Redone. I don't mean your personal mods like Dynavision or such. They're good. But I meant the ones in your nexus mod manager
Can't wait for your next episode Gopher - this is the part of the modding that I haven't really settled yet with. Project reality with it's weathers is a must but I get kind'a lost in deciding which lightning mod to apply over it, which is the best one amongst the ones available, etc. As I said, eager to see your tinkering over it.
So I reckon you won't cover ENB's in this beginner series humh?
And you should also take a look at Better Dynamic Snow, since it complements SMIM and HD 2K Textures by adding some really nice new textures for snow, and buildings in Winterhold, Whindhelm and other snowy places.
Gopher could you please do a video series on how to use the Creation Kit?
I would very much like to learn, and the way you make your videos on modding just
makes everything look less complicated. Thanks and thumbs up if you would like to see this as well. Great Vids! Keep it up dude :)
Cheers Gopher, I'm glad I watched this. I've been modding for quite a while yet always just installed the full version of SMIM without checking custom options... Gonna ditch a few things and perhaps get a little FPS boost :)
Ruins Clutter Improved is a really good meshes improvment too.
And they are compatibles.
And chrome causes way too many processes to spawn and is easy to crash. Still my favorite browser. But for a basic site such as Nexus it makes no odds to me. When I code I have to check on all browsers so I am comfortable with any of them.
SMIM is amazing, hats off to its makers!
Thanks for uploading Gopher, I was unsure about smim, if I really needed it or not, seems I do need it after all, those awful chains and ropes finally fixed. :)
Gopher my friend I just have to say................THANKS - for all that you do for modding - ................. and that's all
Thx a lot you helped me a lot and keep on helping others
There are 6 mods in that series so I believe that it is more than a single mission.
SMIM actually has some conflicts with WATER because of some of the terrain improvements. I also think it changes some things in Pure Waters but you don't notice it because Pure Waters is all self contained within a BSA file.
Something I've always been curious about is if it's important in MO, because of the way it stores and installs mods separately, if you even have to worry about which one is installed first as long as the priority and load order is correct.
Gopher, If you're doing a blades vs Thalmor season you should install helgen reborn, It's pretty much all about setting up an anti-thalmor town and would make a great base of operations for Richards Thalmor hunting activities!
I've been modding since Oblivion, but I have to say that your videos have opened my eyes to a lot of things I could do better, and have since started to do so. Using the Mod Manager, SKSE, and a few other things have made my Skyrim all the better, even with all the layers of mods I already have.
That said, I'd love to see a list of your top however many mods - sure, Skyrim Mod Sanctuary's great and all, but... that is a whole lot of mods to sort through.
I dont think he's covered that yet but yes, there is a mod to fix that, its called ENBoost which you can find on the Skyrim Nexus :)
FYI - There may be a small hiccup using a custom install of SMIM. Seemingly, the updates include items not installed from the main file, so blue/ purple items with no textures appear in the game. This was fixed for me by either deactivating the update, or by going back and installing textures not previously chosen. I am uncertain SMIM is the cause, so wished to inform you simply in case this problem is occurring for others, and you may be able to investigate it.
You should be able to install all the mods and then run boss. Sometimes Boss doesn't have some mods in it's master list though, so it's best to check your load order afterwards.
I actually find MO easier to use as a beginner. At least once you've seen a guide (such as this) that quickly explains the installation of a Profile and how to add programs such as BOSS, TES5EDIT, Wrye Bash etc. to your launcher. MO is very handy, and as I said it is also a lot more fail-proof than NMM.
MO is also great considering that you are able to keep all your Skyrim-related tools in one simple drop-down list. It comes down to opinion also, obviously, but it is a more versatile tool.
Which ones and for which games and why ... oh and when? :)
Thanks Gopher! Enjoying your series! :)
Wait... did he almost say what I thought he said. Nice save as always Gopher! 12:45
It actually conflicts with W.A.T.E.R., because that mod adds animated blacksmith's troughs and it also retextures some rocks.
BTW, great series Gopher, don't really need them, since I have already modded my game, but I just like to see which mods you use for your let's play videos.
Yes, when you get the install window just check the rope and chain boxes and leave everything else unchecked.
Will do :)
I find using BOSS pretty useful, you just need to read up on how it works or watch a vid on it. Then decide for yourself if you need it or not.
yep, i've got 20+ visual mods (no enb) on my low-mid range laptop, gt525m and running 30fps, 768x1366 medium settings :)
And on my desktop with GTX660ti, 110+ mods in total, with enb, 45 fps 1080p ultra!
Texture mods and mesh mods generally dont cause much of a performance hit. What you need to watch out for with texture mods, is how much vram is being used ;)
I'm SOOO glad he added a tomato option that was not a perfect red sphere.
Real tomatoes don't look perfect without modern technology.
wow this actually improves a lot, thx :)
I've had this game since it's release in 2011, and I've literally never seen a hawk in Skyrim before. I didn't even know Skyrim had hawks
Gopher I'd like to point out that Pure Waters is contained in a BSA, I don't think it has any loose files. WATER on the hand would have a few conflicts.
Ah this SMIM mod! Tessellation makes everything look incredible :D
12:45 hahahahaha gopher... "tables and shi... uh chairs and things" nice catch there.
What a great vid! Thank you so much
Not only is SMIM one hell a great Mod for Skyrim, the creator of SMIM is one funny guy... ;)
Gopher, could you please tell us what modding topics you are going to be covering in this series? Just because I was wanting to check out some of the topics by myself before watching your video on it.
If you could that would be amazing, thanks :)
This is the typical reason why I went from Nexus Mod Manager to Mod Organizer so much easier then it comes to updating or "installing" a mod before another.
Great job on the videos!
it does indeed i tend to keep chrome for youtube alone, anything else i use firefox, thanks for the vids btw 1-8 plus the realvision ENB video have made my skyrim insane. Im hooked on it again >.
I do use them. And Safari, Opera and Dolphin.
Am I suppose to add 'haha' to the end of my reply too? I am kind of new to this sort of conversation so I don't quite know what is expected of me. How about ... muhahahahahahah?
Very good seris, u did it so it wasnt boring even thoe the videos was so long
this video should have come out first before the others. why would he do this to us? gggrrrrr
bayingjase2006 Even Gopher can make mistakes.
+KidAnime20 He can also edit videos...
+KidAnime20 I don't see it as a mistake. This is a lesson in how to apply the directions given by the author.
does SMIM overwrite any ENB's you add later on or no
I'm getting the same thing. Indoors I'm getting somewhere around 60-80 fps. Outdoors when I'm looking down or at a wall I get a solid 50 fps, but when I turn fast or look at a town during the daytime it drops to 20-40.
I think it has to do with the lighting and shadows.
First, THANKS the videos, Gopher! Second, regarding the deinstallation of mods before installing/updating SMIM: you suggest it would be best to deinstall in the opposite order of installation -- makes sense. BUT, esp w/ as many mods as you have, how do you remember what order they were installed? And then remember which and what order to reinstall afterwards? It seems like the mod manager should have some way of remembering this for you. Might be an idea to pass onto the NMM team.
I did not actually notice it when i played, but once you see it it cannot bee unseen.
gopher the hawks are easy to shoot down with arrows/bolts or use a shout of some kind
Gopher, can I ask you one thing; why do you use NMM over Mod Organizer? Especially for these guides, MO would be a lot more appropriate as it is more of a fail-safe manager, with the different profiles and the fact that it never install anything directly in your Skyrim directory, rather "emulates" a data directory on top. By using that, mess-ups can be easily reverted by a simple disable, without any traces of the mod left behind.
I love NMM, but MO is honestly a lot better for these guides.
"Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM - SMIM 1-72 can't be added." What should i do?
God I love your videos.. I've been following this beginner guide very carefully! I am just wondering will you be doing something about the sky?? I am using some mods... but the lighting ends up just being too unrealistically bright, so I would really like try some good mods for the sky if you could share. thank you and keep up the awesome work!
yes you shoot them down, you can harvest feathers and other things on them
no not branded, im just in the middle of a medical problem preventing me from working and have no forseeable way to get some cash. being flat busted broke for almost 8 months is a pain. once I do get some extra cash (by the year 2024) I will definetally get the upgrade without question.
argh....i can't stop myself from saying, "however" after every sentence he says...lol...i love the way he says it.
I have made three such videos already :)
Gopher, what mic do you have? Your audio is so trucking clear and amazing.
Just busy. Way too busy I am afraid. But yeah I will continue with it, but the beginners guide is a little higher priority.
NMM downloads take forever. I download the mod manually and I just add them on NMM manually. Then delete the downloaded file. This is actually better for me. Never had any problems.
I really enjoy this series even though my laptop will never run skyrim xD
Hello Gopher, I allways tried to mod my skyrim game, eventualy I even came across save game file corruption due to my ignorance on the subject. Thanks to you I am more confident to try out modding it again and squeeze that roleplay potential I allways loved in skyrim.
So you have a new subscriber. I Thank you and I think you should keep all this magnificent work of yours.
PS: can u tell me a way on fixing bugs due to mods or save game file corruption, some work arround of the sort
Best Regards
actually watching in 2019, the links don"t work but the explanation is amazing
I never actually realised the barrel thing about SMIM cuz i had it installed through steam workshop before and just didn't pay attention! XD
Id think so as long as you install Towns and Villages after SMIM or using mod manager do not let SMIM over right any of the Towns and Villages mod files.
