have literally watched every video you have uploaded on modding skyrim and have downloaded all the mods you have showcased and i absolutely love the it. thank you for such great very detailed videos!
As I get more organized I hope to revive the Mod Sanctuary and ENB series as well as the Skyrim lets play. I restarted this series first purely because I didn't want people new to modding to feel adrift in a sea of information overload. Plus it also acts as a series that indicates my own personal must have mods which is something I get asked about very often :)
Having been intrigued with games of this nature for a while now, I have been through a lot of this stuff before. I started playing Morrowind shortly after it's release and starting modding shortly after that. Even with about 10 years of experience in this, I still very much loved going through not only these guides of yours, but your mod reviews as well. You are very much appreciated.
Just getting back into modding The Elder Scrolls games and your series and comparisons have helped me immensely. I think this might be one of my new favorite UA-cam channels. I definitely agree that you do indeed have the potential to go on to be a TotalBiscuit type of UA-camr - an informative, relaxing, and enjoyable viewing experience from a classy gent. Exactly what we need more of. Quite.
@Gopher like LIVINGnEXILE said I too have been modding Skyrim for a long time and I thought I don't need these videos, but bored one day I watched them and have learned a couple of new things. Thanks for the support you give the modding community.
Hey there Gopher. I've been modding skyrim a while now and your guide and been a driving force in helping me build a more stable experience. I'd Love to see a video dedicated to combat and magic overhauls, there's just so many and trying to test can become a bit overwhelming. Also, a video or even a series on requiem, the amount of changes to the game are vast and i've found it makes skyrim a much more brutal and harrowing place to be. Thank you very much for all you do and all you've done.
Gopher, you need to try "Wearable Lanters". This lets you wear lanterns, hold them in your left hand, have them use oil and when the oil runs out your lantern will go faint and then go dark. It is really immersive fun to use in dungeons. And it has quite a few more choices and features as well.
Astonished you didn't mention the bird mods, like Birds of Skyrim, and the Flock mod, and the one that allows them to perch. Nothing has changed my game more than it, it seems so minor but wow, it's amazing, just walking along and see a flock of birds fly over head, or see a blue jay land in a nearby nest, or a pigeon sitting around market stalls waiting for crumbs.... it's just awesome.
Agreed. You're really good at explaining what you want to say, and you seem knowledgeable. I think there is a lot you could accomplish in the gaming community.
I did not notice there weren't any foot prints in the snow or raindrops. But you just had to talk about it. I will keep noticing it and want to get it. God damnit Gopher!
Watched ALL Mod Sanctuary vids, love them, nearly 200 mods now. And now the ENB series will help me choose the right one for when my notebook with a 780m arrives =D.
@Gopher After this series (or during) you should do a series about making mods for beginners. I haven't seen all of your mod work so I don't know if you only do certain types of mods but you should at least do videos on the kind of mods. You do these videos very well and you're a great teacher for this stuff. I would love to see you make these videos and it would personally help me a lot.
None of these videos is going to be an exhaustive list of mods as that would take several hours. It is more about pushing beginners in a few different directions so they try out a variety of different mods.
Requiem's something I'd recommend you experience with a fresh character if you decide to try it out. After the first ten levels, Requiem isn't much more difficult than Skyrim Redone and you can configure the difficulty in the MCMenu. Requiem is a mod which caters to roleplaying and immersion junkies, I think you'd like it once you got used to it.
***** On the left side of NMM, there's a button with two arrows on it (pointing left and right). That will toggle the view between categories and a list of all your mods.
Great stuff here Gopher as always, but i would like to add 3 immersion mods that made my Skyrim experience extra special (especially if you like to RP): Campfire; Tentapalooza and Realistic Needs and Diseases. Campfire is a huge mod framework designed to add campfires and (lore freindly) camping gear to Skyrim. You can chop wood, build a fire, cook on it, pitch a tent, sit by the fire with your follower and it even has a camping skill tree! It adds many new craftable items that are very useful and also adds cloaks, so you don't need Cloaks of Skyrim anymore. Tentapalooza is a camping mod (requires campfire) that adds many thematic tents for 1, 2 or 3 persons, pet bowl, multi colored bed rolls to craft, camping furniture, various item containers and my personal favorites: backpacks. RN&D adds needs like hunger, thirst and fatigue that finally give cooking in Skyrim a realistic use. It adds a lot of cooking recipes, new food items, drinking water function, various types of game meats (if you like to hunt) and some buffs and debuffs related to the 3 needs. It has both text and audio warnings when your needs are low (growling stomach; caughing and yawning). Hunger, thirst and fatigue intervals can be fully customized with MCM. It has different functions for vampires and warewolves and is a nice compliment to the campfire mods, if you like to have a realistic food / sleep cycle. Ineed is also a good alternative if you like a more complex needs system. It goes very well with Fountains of Skyrim mod so you can replenish your water from those as well. I can't live without these mods anymore :)
Dangerosu good yo know it! Also, is there any mod to make werewolves useful later in the game? I read that there's no point, for example, in being a werewolf later in the game, for it doesn't follow your progression.
Gopher, you're great. My game looks so much better now. I decided to get Realistic needs, Requiem and Frostfall.. So the game is like ultra-realistic now, too. It's a bit of a pain when I get sniped by a bandit, but it's a fair trade to me! Thanks for the help!
I have a similar setup, and I'm running about 30 mods with no problem. As far as a cap? Eventually you are going to see some effects on the FPS, I guess it just depends on what is a "playable" FPS to you. So install as many mods as you like and if you start to see some unwanted FPS drop, then don't add any more mods, maybe exchange some. Also, if you have an aftermarket cooling system for your CPU you can overclock that to 4.2ghz without even touching the voltage.
It should be noted that immersion means different things to different people, so always check recommendations against your own sense of it. Some features that help immersion for some may break it for others. So have fun trying things out and see what feels best for you!
I see some mods on nexus and think , no , i don't need them. Then , i watch your videos , and the next thing i do is head straight to nexus to download them. You're the best.
CoT has fairly loud thunder in my experience. Probably won't need another mod for that. I don't think I've ever seen lightning bolts in CoT so you probably will need a mod for that. There are lightning flashes though. To be totally sure though, you should install CoT, wait a day or two and the console yourself up some stormy weather and see how you like it/what you'll need.
My favorite mod is Amazing Followers Tweak. You can have up to 30 followers, teach them spells, have them ride horse, etc.. But the best and my favorite feature of the mod is that it lets you make any NPC a follower! Even kids. I have a whiterun gaurd, one of the children from whiterun, and Lydia as my fearless group at the moment. Its awesome.
I used to get the silly busty girl mods (was bored with Skyrim at that time) until I saw your Richard playthough. All these realism mods make the game much more alive and the immersion is great. I didn't even know about the splashes mod until this video. Thank you for this series.
Not to mention Requiem focuses mostly on the challenge while SkyRe tries to balance, or even improve the immersion in Skyrim depending on your point of view.
Gopher, I agree with LIVINGnEXILE. Been modding for years and you're fantastic as an instructor - learned a few things (especially with SkyUI and using the VanillaUI for controllers). Anyway, a few videos dedicated to combat and magic would be great! I recommend checking out Spells of Spawn - its a LOT of fun especially when coupled with summon meteor! I know those aren't really overhauls, but still worth mentioning.
That would require a whole new play through and I would have to give up on Richard. I predict that would not be a popular thing to do :) Also, I believe Requiem is fairly hardcore. Possibly too hardcore for a story driven let's play?
I paused the video at a couple points to look through your mod list. It would be cool if you did a video where you went through your entire list and talk briefly about them all.
Hello Mr Gopher, I am a big fan of your work:) thank you for all the effort you put on your videos. Can I ask if these mods actually hit the performance in any way? Thank you
I love immersion mods, and I can't have enough. I do wonder what my limit might be, though. For instance, if someone made a mod that caused you to sink to the bottom of the ocean or river should you try to swim in full plate armor, would I want that? I don't know. But I do know that anything that makes the world feel more real is a must have for me.
I tried out Splash of Rain and it was great for a while and I thought that it'd be okay to save. Then I discovered a bug wherein if you go indoors during certain (non-rain) weather, you'll hear the wind whistling as if outside. I assumed that it was SoR causing it because I didn't have any other mod which modify sound. I deactivated it with NMM but the sound persisted (I presume because I saved while the mod was installed). I used the "forceweather" console command which seemed to resolve the issue, but I'm still a bit concerned. I mentioned it to the mod author in case the problem needs to be addressed. Otherwise great mods, thanks for all the tips.
I hope you do a combat mod comparsion. Duel Combat Realism, Deadly Combat, Ultimate Combat, SkyRe's Combat module, and Duke Patrick's. The last one is difficult to understand because no one has videos on it.
Enemies are deleveled by Requiem. You can't defeat every person you encounter from level one. The bandits outside of Helgen aren't difficult to beat though, even at level one. Did you use the three perks you had? You start with three perks to define your character with Requiem installed and without the first weapon efficacy perk you won't do much damage. Oh, and only Wooden Bows break when hit by melee attacks and you can turn this off in the MCM.
Hey Gopher! Is there any ETA on your next Skyrim chapter? I do realize you are taking things a little slower, but a return to Richard will be welcome. Also, I recall that before you even started Falskaar you installed your Fight Against the Thalmor mods, but you haven't really shown them off, and I am guessing Richard would take great pleasure in wiping out the dominion.
Back when I used to play on console, I couldn't stand how there wasn't footprints, so glad that I broke away from consoles to a much better experience, and mouse and keyboard is also so much better.
Let's say there is a mod that adds dwemer written books detailing their daily life in the dwemer ruins, this can immerse the player more deeply into the lore, making the game more fascinating and interesting, this is my idea of immersion.
If you are talking about Skyrim specifically, maybe. It has a limit of 3.1GB, go over that while playing the game and you start experiencing horrible things, mostly crashing all the time. But in the most generalized generic sense, more system RAM should make games run smoother. Also factor in your CPU, graphics card and hard drive speed.
I played Requiem for about an hour...I started next to a group of bandits (three of them, clustered around a campfire near Helgen). No matter what I did, I could NOT kill them. My bow broke almost immediately, and nothing I did phased them. They killed me about 10 times. Gave up after that, went back to SkyRe.
GOPHER!!!You need to remake Adjustable Hud for Skyrim! Seeing as you haven't already, I assume that it may be impossible, but damn would I love aHud for Skyrim.
Hey Gopher. Ever considered testing out Requiem? It's a new overhaul system somewhat like what SkyRe does but in a different approach from what I've seen. Brodual has been making some videos about it.
For people who have more budget oriented systems, I was able to run all of these mods before I upgraded from a GTX 550Ti without any change in framerate.
Thanks so much for the information. Don't be sorry. I'd figure this stuff out myself, but I don't yet have a gaming computer. I'm just preparing my mod list.
None of those. It will be called a text file called Skyrim, or Skyrim.ini, depending on if the file extensions are showing or not. It's actually NOT located under the steam directory, for me, it is on the other side of my hard drive, under C/Users/(name)/Mydocuments/mygames/skyrim There I find the INI file, it is called Skyrim, because I've got the extension hidden for all files. To the right of it, in a column headed as "Type" It's listed as a Configuration Settings file.
That was immensely helpful, thanks. I just want a mod that removes the level cap for player, followers, enemies, and all NPCs. Does Community Uncapper do that? Or is it just for the player? I feel like High Level Enemies is connected to this.
I thought Cloaks of Skyrim was no longer working with the latest Skyrim update and it would seem that the mod author is no longer supporting the mod. It is a shame since it was one of my must have mods with any playthrough.
Gopher, if you use the Clear Skies shout while it is raining/snowing and NPCs have gone inside, will they react accordingly to the sudden change in weather?
I think you're looking in the wrong Skyrim folder: "Skirym_default", "SkyrimEditor", "high" etc are in Steam/SteamApps/common/Skyrim. Your skyrim.ini should be in "my documents/my games/Skyrim
To the first question, do you mean you do not need the uncapper mod? Could you explain your maybe to question two? Does High Level Enemies fit into No Skill Limit? And I did read that it might come with Reproccer. What are the advantages of the Reproccer?
Thanks. Another question concerning Uncapper. Does SkyRe come with an uncapper or do you need the community uncapper? Do you need the No Skill Limit mod? And does SkyRe come with the Reproccer now?
Hey Gopher I watched almost every video of skyrim sanctuary, beginner's guides, boss and load order and read a lot about each mod. But my game keeps crashing with an almost similiar mod collection that you use for richard. Did you modify the mods further (for example TES5Edit cleaning)? Could you do a video about the mods you use for the next chapter of richard and focus on the process of making these specific mods working together?
Those are awesome mods! :) Sadly I'm already using lots of script heavy mods and by adding these, my game seems to be unable to handle all those scripts. :( I saw the "update" option in Wet and Cold. Does that affect how the scripts are handled in any way?
Immersion is how drawn into the game you feel. So say you may be incredibly drawn into Skyrim, and feel as if you are there. However there are Dragons flying around.
I had the same problem like some few others here. For me it worked when i installed all the mods in this vid shown one buy one and after each install i "LOOT" start the game wait like 1-2 Minutes and then it got loaded into MCM.
I think one of the more immersive mods you can get is Richer Merchants. Also Amazing Follower Tweaks will make let your followers behave more believably. I've tried Wet and Cold and found it mostly annoying,
If you don't use the Reproccer then weapons and armors will be pathetically weak, imbalanced and often incorrectly classified. It's mandatory. SkyRe has some perks which require the player to have skills above level 100 and so you'll also need the Uncapper.
I can see why you say that. By the way, do you know if CoT comes with ambient loud thunder sounds during storms? I want to know if I need Immersive Thunder v6 installed. Also, do Supreme Storms or, more likely, CoT come with visible lightning strikes during storms? I want to know if I need Lightning During Thunderstorms and Lightning During Thunderstorms Patch. If anyone knows and answers, I'd greatly appreciate it.
this is a bit off topic , but I've been thinkin' about replaying oblivion , back in the day I've played it vanilla , so can you make a video about lore friendly 'must have' mods I should play it with , we seem to have similar taste anyway..or can you share an existing one?
If this guy teaches, I'm willing to do a Ph.D in Skyrim
I cant get enough of this guy's voice xD
have literally watched every video you have uploaded on modding skyrim and have downloaded all the mods you have showcased and i absolutely love the it. thank you for such great very detailed videos!

splash of rain is now wonders of weather as splash of rain is unsupported. just so everyone knows
Because thats what heroes do.

Mostly. The visual enhancements mod is probably in need of updating as many of the mods were merged into one.
I see some mods on nexus and think , no , i don't need them.
Then , i watch your videos , and the next thing i do is head straight to nexus to download them. You're the best.
Also I would take a look at the Skyrim Optimization mod, and the GeForce Skyrim Tweak Guide. They will both help you immensely.
nice stuff added there,
I just hope all this will won't be left out on tes 6 when it comes out
CoT has fairly loud thunder in my experience. Probably won't need another mod for that. I don't think I've ever seen lightning bolts in CoT so you probably will need a mod for that. There are lightning flashes though.

for a 3rd prsn player, footprints is awesome.
couldn't have done it without this vid
My favorite series. Thank you sir!
Gopher, I agree with LIVINGnEXILE. Been modding for years and you're fantastic as an instructor - learned a few things (especially with SkyUI and using the VanillaUI for controllers). Great video. I was wondering which font do you use for your titles.
It is very beautiful.
Gopher I used to watch all of your lets plays of skyrim and I really want to see an an other one please make more skyrim lets plays!!!!
Hello Mr Gopher, I am a big fan of your work:) thank you for all the effort you put on your videos.

a lot of parts of those mods are now added in Frostfall but yup nice to try them all
That was the first ever playlist I made.
Much, much better than the 2 you've mentioned ;) To me, Realistic Water Two is the "go to" water mod now.
The Reproccer is required even if you don't have any mods which add weapons or armors. Also, it doesn't effect Spells.
I tried out Splash of Rain and it was great for a while and I thought that it'd be okay to save. Amazing guide! Very detailed and so well done!

Oh yeah, and you should check out Realistic Water Two. It's on par with WATER and Pure Waters.
Hello Gopher. Is there any chance that you will make a beginner's guide to modding Oblivion and/or Morrowind?
Gopher, mate. If i keep watching these videos of yours my mod list is going to be huge. haha. Thanks! :)
Brodual has been making some videos about it.
your videos are awesome!
You deserve so much more credit.
Medieval umbrellas.... I lol'd.
Also, those legs clipping through the cloak...
TybrosionMojito 360 Walk and Run Plus fixes this.
Well technically its not medieval.. Its fantasy. Still you are right, it feels out of place. Easily removed.
For people who have more budget oriented systems, I was able to run all of these mods before I upgraded from a GTX 550Ti without any change in framerate.
It's nordic carved armor, from Dragonborn DLC. :)
Have you tried out Real Shelter? It is found on TES Alliance. I think it was on Nexus, but was taken down.
I feel like High Level Enemies is connected to this.
yessss I've been waiting so long for this!
I thought Cloaks of Skyrim was no longer working with the latest Skyrim update and it would seem that the mod author is no longer supporting the mod. It is a shame since it was one of my must have mods with any playthrough.
Could you make a guide to multiple mods & stability?
Thanks man, I always wanted to know what it was, but I just couldn't find it.
Please come back to Richard, I miss him so much.
Thanks. Another question concerning Uncapper. Does SkyRe come with an uncapper or do you need the community uncapper? Do you need the No Skill Limit mod? And does SkyRe come with the Reproccer now?
Hey Gopher
I watched almost every video of skyrim sanctuary, beginner's guides, boss and load order and read a lot about each mod. But my game keeps crashing with an almost similiar mod collection that you use for richard.
Did you modify the mods further (for example TES5Edit cleaning)? Could you do a video about the mods you use for the next chapter of richard and focus on the process of making these specific mods working together?
I assume you'll be covering Frostfall in the next episode, right?
Hey Gopher I was curious to know what you thought of the Requiem Mod?
Those are awesome mods! :) Sadly I'm already using lots of script heavy mods and by adding these, my game seems to be unable to handle all those scripts. :( I saw the "update" option in Wet and Cold. Does that affect how the scripts are handled in any way?
Immersion is how drawn into the game you feel. So say you may be incredibly drawn into Skyrim, and feel as if you are there. However there are Dragons flying around.
God I need too get this for PC, I love Skyrim but I feel a bit burnt out on it at this point.
I had the same problem like some few others here. For me it worked when i installed all the mods in this vid shown one buy one and after each install i "LOOT" start the game wait like 1-2 Minutes and then it got loaded into MCM.
I want him to do a video on requiem too just so I can hear him pronounce it...I love his voice
I think one of the more immersive mods you can get is Richer Merchants. Also Amazing Follower Tweaks will make let your followers behave more believably. I've tried Wet and Cold and found it mostly annoying,
Did I miss something. Did gopher do any videos on wyre bash and merge patch? how they work? if I should use them? whitch one ? both?
Real shelter is also on steam but the climates of tamriel only.
And it doesn't really cover the whole of skyrim so I doubt gopher will recommend it.
this is a bit off topic , but I've been thinkin' about replaying oblivion , back in the day I've played it vanilla , so can you make a video about lore friendly 'must have' mods I should play it with , we seem to have similar taste anyway..or can you share an existing one?
hey Gopher out of curiosity have you watched the TV show Vikings?
